Master Password for Saved Username & Passwords

I have been a Firefox user for many years - avoiding Safari - until I found out there are a number of plugins that I need and will make using Safari a possibility. One feature I LOVE on Firefox is the way it handles passwords. I have one Master Password that I have to enter in order for Firefox to auto-fill my username and password that is saved.
Is there a way to do this in Safari? Is there a free plugin that will add this feature?

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
s there a way to do this in Safari? Is there a free plugin that will add this feature?
Yes. No need for a plugin.
You don't need third party software for usernames and passwords. You have the Keychain Access application already. (Applications/Utilties).
To set Safari preferences, launch Safari. From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences. For usernames and passwords select the Autofill tab.
Select the box next to: Usernames and Passwords.
In Safari, go to a site you login using a username/password. You will be prompted to save that data so a "keychain" can be created for you.

  • Prompted for sysman username/ password twice

hello. i've just installed gc 10.2.0.5. when logging on to the console, it prompts me for the username/password twice, even though the information was installed correctly the first time. has anyone seen this behavior, and if so, what is needed to resolve this . thanks

    Hi,
    * Does the second attempt allow you to login successfuly and Grid Control works?
    * Also did you change the sysman password recently?
    * Are there any errors logged in OMS_HOME/sysman/log which the first attempt fails?
    * Is it a single OMS or multiple OMS with SLB setup.

  • How do i dissable the master password feature for saving web passwords , when i don't have the master password?

I have mistakenly enabled the need for a master password for firefox to autofill passwords for me.I have no clue what the master password is.Is there any way to disable or change the master password , without knowing what the master password is?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Saving username/passwords

I have multiple google accounts. I have been able to save a username/password combo (automatic prompt) for two of them, but have not been able to get Firefox to prompt me to save username/password for additional accounts. I've checked everything I could think of -- site exceptions in the "options" menu, clearing the saved passwords list and starting over, reinstalling the browser -- but can't seem to fix the problem. Any idea why it would save username/password for some accounts but not others? Thx

    * Make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) [[Private Browsing]] mode.
    * You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"

  • Firefox always asks for a username/password from a proxy for any website I try to visit. "No proxy" is selected.

Firefox is installed on my work computer (v16 on windows XP). When I go to any unsecure website, I get a request for a username and password from a proxy. I don't have one, so I press "cancel." I get the following message (I put the asterisks in):
    "This Page Cannot Be Displayed
Authentication is required to access the requested web site ( *******-webproxy ). A valid user ID and password must be entered when prompted.
If you have questions, need assistance with your login information, or feel this is an error, please contact your corporate network administrator and provide the codes shown below.
    Notification codes: (1, WWW_AUTH_REQUIRED, *********-webproxy)"
The website in the address bar is: http://*******-webproxy/B0000D0000N0001F0000S0002R0004/http://www.whatever.com/
This started after it upgraded (to which version, I don't remember). I also had another version of firefox installed to my "Local Settings" directory since I can't (un)install programs on the computer. That one was working fine until I upgraded to v.15 or v.16 (or maybe 14... I don't remember), and then I started getting the warning screen for an untrusted connection whenever I went to a secure website (https), I had to confirm a security exception, etc. And even then some pages only appeared as text.
I uninstalled that version, and then installed 17b4, and I'm back to the same problem as the original firefox: unsecure websites always seem to be redirecting through a proxy, and secure ones always tell me the connection is untrusted and I have to confirm an exception. I have "No proxy" selected in the network options. I tried v16 with the same results.
I would love to be able to just go to a website and not have to confirm security exceptions or get web proxy errors.
    Internet Explorer works fine, btw.

Not sure from your example but it appears that the address doesn't have a full domain, i.e., the part between http:// and the next / is not a valid internet domain name, e.g.,
    http://sometext-webproxy/
In that case, it's probably something running on your computer, either as part of your security software, or as a Firefox add-on, or malware.
A standard diagnostic to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings) is to try Firefox's Safe Mode.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode ([[Safe Mode]]) using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode."
If you can access sites normally, this points to one of your extensions or custom settings as the problem.
To also disable plugins, you can try here:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Plugins category
    Any change?

  • DAC Physical Data Source password change - invalid username/password

We are using DAC/Informatica for loading Peoplesoft data into the warehouse. The password for the peoplesoft source was changed recently. I changed the password in DAC under setup, Type source for the Peoplesoft DB. When I select 'Test Connection' I receive the message connection established successfully. When I restart the execution plan I still get the same error - invalid username/password for obi_infa_ps, which is the account we use for accessing the Peoplesoft DB. All of the DAC and Informatica services on the server have been shutdown and restarted - still getting the invalid username/password error.
Do I need to rebuild the execution plan? If I do, can I manually put in the needed refresh dates?

You will also need to update the username/password in the Informatica Workflow Manager.

  • Should I use one (1) password for all my password requirements or vary them?

Hello.  At present, I have many different passwords for various password requirements on my iMac.  Would it be possible to use only
one strong password instead for ALL my needs?  Thanks for any input on this.

Thanks very much everyone--sorry I can only give 'this helped me' points to the first couple of answers, doesn't look like I can give out any more.  Also I will put a 'this solved my question' on after I wait for a few more replies, if they should come in.
I have been using MANY passwords, actually about 3 pages of them I keep written down, but thought I was being paranoid!  By the sounds of it I should keep up with what I am doing even though it is a bit cumbersome.
There is a program called 1Password but the cost is a bit prohibitive and I have found in the past that I pay and download some of these programs and then find I cant understand completely how to use them, so for the time being I will continue with what I am doing, thanks to your input.
I did read somewhere that a strong password would be a series of statements that meant something to you--for example 'Ilovetopasstimeonmymac' (I love to pass time on my mac).  I have also read that putting a # sign in with the characters and numbers has merit.
Again thanks for your input, I appreciate your time and expertise.  Cheers.

  • Firefox's option bar for saving username and passwords will not show, I have it set to remember passwords for sites. Can sites be added manually?

I was using Norton to remember my user names and passwords, however I do not use Norton any longer. Firefox does not give me the option of saving passwords even though I have it set to remember them.
There are no sites in the exceptions list. How can I reset Firefox so the option bar shows?

    * Make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) [[Private Browsing]] mode
    * In Private Browsing mode some menu items are disabled (grayed) and features like visited links are disabled and not showing
    * You are in Private Browsing mode if you see "Tools > Stop Private Browsing", possibly grayed
    * You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
    * To see all History settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting <b>Firefox will: Use custom settings for history</b>

  • I changed the code for saving usernames and passwords, it didn't work, so I restored a backup of the code I had made, now usernames and passwords don't work at all. Help?

I found a method online to force firefox to save usernames and passwords which the site itself requested not to be saved. I made a backup of the file on my hard drive, moved it to the desktop, changed the code and tried it. It didn't work as expected so, I deleted that file, returned the original file to it's appropriate place and restarted firefox. Now it won't save ANY passwords or user names, even on sites it previously did so. I've tried reinstalling over the existing copy, and would REALLY prefer not to uninstall/reinstall since I have a ton of bookmarks, addons etc, which I don't want to have to restore. Has anyone encountered this issue? or have a suggestion on how to fix it?

Do you still see names and passwords in the Password Manager?
Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"
You can still reinstall Firefox. Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected.

  • How do you get Firefox to ask for proxy username password in a pop up window?

Previously, about a month ago a pop up message would appear when I would connect to my University's wired network proxy to ask me for my password. In Chormium Browser the following message pops up when I log in http://tinypic.com/r/i77lhi/8. A similar thing used to happen in Firefox, but doesn't anymore. I know it is not my proxy settings that are incorrect as I have double checked them and it is only in Firefox that it fails. I have Firefox set to use system proxy settings and this is the setting that is dictated by the University. It is very possible that I changed a setting while tinkering that prevents such message boxes from appearing or uses an old username and password automatically, but I haven't been able to find anything like this.
Help would be greatly appreciated! I am completely stuck on this.
    Thanks
    Jason

Hi all, I want to restrict access to any resource on my weblogic

WL 6.0 doesnot support URL based access control directly but you can read on
docs on these two links and
they helped me to restrict access to certain url's by prompting user for
    username and password

    Prabhat,
You can restrict access to deployed resources by specifying the access
constraints in the deployment descriptors. For things without
deployment descriptors, you can use the console.
    HTH.

  • I do have the exception saved password box that opens&removes but the do not have the Security seach bar for saving site passwords how do I get to this?

How to add websites to the Options then to Security to Remember password on sites to Exception pass words?

Sorry, I don't understand what you are asking. See if this add-on has ther features you want.

Adds the ability to create and edit entries in the password manager.

    I have Firefox 6.0.1

Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.
    * Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Private+Browsing
    * In [[Private Browsing]] mode all cookies are session cookies that expire if that session is ended, so websites won't remember you.
    * Do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"
Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

  • If someone steal files that contain master password and website username&password ....

can he/she decrypt those files and get my website user name and password??

It depends on the strength of the master password.
There are programs available to crack passwords, a common method used is either brute force or dictionary attacks. If you have a weak master password, such as a word, password cracking applications will probably be able to crack the master password, giving somebody access to your other passwords. If you use a strong master password that contains a mixture of upper and lower case letters, numbers and other characters, it will be very difficult to crack, and will likely take a prohibitively long time.
