Master password still required after using: chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul

I'm asked on a fairly regular basis for my master password, except I don't recall having set one up. I've completed the steps outlined in: chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul. Preferences show no tick mark for master password, but I am being asked for it just the same.

If using the chrome url (chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul) doesn't work then delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/key3.db key3.db] and signons.sqlite (Firefox 3.5) and all signons#.txt files (if any exist, Firefox 3.0 uses signons3.txt) in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile_Folder].

  • I tried resetting my Master Password using "chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul", but when I click on "Change Master Password" it asks for my CURRENT password. I don't have a current password, because I don't remember it and am trying to reset it!

Using FF 4.01 for laptops & desktops, Windows XP 2002 SP3. I used "chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul" to reset the Master Password. Then went to Tools/Options/Security, clicked on "Change Master Password". BUT it asks for my CURRENT password and new password. I don't know my current password. Is there a default Master Password that I need to input as the Current password?

If you still have a Master Password set then it looks that resetting the MP hasn't worked.

  • Firefox crashes when I try to reset the master password using chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul

    # Question
Firefox 3.6.10 on Windows 7 crashes when I try to reset the master password using chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul. Is there an alternate way of resetting the master password?

You can delete the 2 files that contain password details, they will be re-created automatically. First open the profile folder, for details of how to find it see the [[profiles]] article. Now close Firefox and delete key3.db and signons.sqlite. If there are files called signons.txt, signons2.txt and signons3.txt you can delete those as well, they are from earlier versions of Firefox.

  • Firefox3.6.12 on Mac forgot master password chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul doesn't work

If the usual method does not work, you can also do this manually.
    # Open your profile folder, for details of how to find it see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles
    # Close Firefox
    # In the profile folder delete key3.db, signons.sqlite, and if they exist signons.txt, signons2.txt and signons3.txt
That will delete all passwords and remove the master password.

  • Need to use a program using the URL chrome://espdesktop/content/desktop.xul. To do this I had to install a file into the chrome subfolder. How can I do this?

I am trying to use the ESP program, an older research program that uses the URL,
    chrome://espdesktop/content/desktop.xul.
To get this to run, you are supposed to create a "chrome" folder that includes the text file "installed-chrome.txt" that includes the following directions: content,install,url,file:///c:/Program%20Files/esp4/
However, this does not seem to work with the newer version of Firefox. Is there anyway to work around this?
I tried just creating a folder called "chrome" with these instructions in C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\chrome but it did not work. Do you have any suggestions?

With what Firefox version did this still work?
I'm seeing some references to the installed-chrome.txt files in the Firefox 10esr code, but not in later versions.
In later versions, including the current release it only shows in the removed files list.

    Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default (your profile folder with bookmarks etc. WILL NOT BE DELETED):
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.

  • I am getting following error! XML Parsing Error: undefined entity Location: chrome://weave/content/options.xul Line Number 6, Column 3: setting id="weave-account" type="string" title="&account.label;" / --^

    Line Number 6, Column 3: <setting id="weave-account" type="string" title="&account.label;" />

I had this problem - it appeared to be due to having Firefox 4 with the Firefox Sync installed as an add-on. Firefox 4 has sync included so there is no need to have it as an add-on. I went to the add-on manager and removed Firefox Sync and now appears to be working correctly.

  • XML Parsing Error: undefined entity Location: chrome://weave/content/options.xul Line Number 6, Column 3:

    Firefox version 4.0.1
    Firefox Sync Version 1.7
I have this combination installed on two different machines (one is WinXP, the other Win7).
When I goto the Addons screen to see which addons are installed and I click the "option" button for the Firefox Sync addon I get a popup window that gives me this error message.
The full details are as follows:
    XML Parsing Error: undefined entity
    Location: chrome://weave/content/options.xul
    Line Number 6, Column 3:
    <setting id="weave-account" type="string" title="&account.label;" />

You don't need the Firefox Sync 1.7 extension with Firefox 4, Sync is a built in feature. Uninstall that extension and that error message shouldn't appear.
