Master volume control

I have a complaint about my Droid X, but I need to ask a question before I start complaining.
Is there a way to control all volume at the same time? For example, my previous phone had volume control that went from audible to vibrate to silent, and it affected ALL alerts on the phone, e.g. ringer, text message, alarm, calendar, etc.
Does the Droid X have this? Thanks for help in advance.

Thanks for the help. However, the solution you specified did not help as I had hoped. Here's what I found.
- If an alarm's "vibrate" property is unchecked, it will not vibrate when the alarm sounds, even with this solution and the ringer set to vibrate
- A calendar alert does not vibrate with this solution. It may have done an initial vibration that I may have missed, but it did not continue to vibrate to alert me
- The same issue as the calendar occurred for email: if there was a vibrate alert, it was only a short one, and not enough to alert me.
In my previous phones, when the phone was set to vibrate, all alerts would become vibrations, and they would continue to alert until they timed out or I interacted with the phone in some way. I would like to see this functionality in Droid X.
It could be useful to have different volume settings for each kind of alert as the Droid X has, but I desire having a master volume switch that affects all alerts. I don't want to have to go through more than one process to make my phone audible or vibrate or be silent.
Does this explain my request more clearly? Is there anything else that the phone currently has that does what I'm describing?

  • Why does using a digital connection from headphones out on a Mac into a stereo disable the master volume control on the Mac?

When you use an analog connector, it does not disable the master volume on the Mac. It's only when you use a digital connector, and it's ALL digital connectors. It still allows you to use the iTunes volume control but, when you stream anything else on the web on your computer, you have to use the stereo's volume control because the master volume control on the Mac has been disabled. Does anyone know why?

I had the same problem, instead of logging in the router with the iMac (impossible) I did it with my iPad, I guess you can do the same with an iPhone.
-Disconnect the iPad from your wifi network and connect it to the TP-Link repeater.
-Open the web browser (I use chrome) be sure you don't have any other open tab, just the one to access tptlinkextender.net
-The configuring page opens, from there follow the steps of detecting your network and adding the password.
*If your MAC address is hidden it'll appear without name, in that case you have to configure it manually (write the name on the space for that)
Now go, be happy and do good.

  • How can multiple speaker outputs be created with varying volume levels and retain keyboard master volume control? Multi-output and aggregate both cannot adjust sub-devices and lose keyboard volume control capabilities on my Mac. What's the solution?

Is it my Mac? Is there software I need? An app perhaps? This seems way too complicated to set up spkrs. I'm attempting to use 2 hdmi and 1 headphone outputs w/ control and varying levels (ie hdmi's quieter than desk spkrs) thanks for suggestions! -Tim

    Hi Tim,
Not sure since I'm deaf, but if possible I'd think...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there.

  • I bought a usb microphone (blue snowball). I can't hear any sound from it. The MIDI master volume is turned all the way down, and I can't turn it up because it's frozen/locked. Please help!!! Not very tech savvy, been at this for hours and desperate :(

I've been trying to fix this problem, seems like it would be simple, but apparently it is not. I just want to turn up the master volume control under my input tab in MIDI audio devices so I can use my blueball microphone.
This image above is what I'm currently dealing with. I put a red box around the volume control I want to use. That is the one I can't turn up because it is locked/frozen.
Please make steps as simple as possible!
    Thanks

You should have gotten a user manual.  If the manual is of no help, contact the manufacturer.

  • ALSA - Master volume no longer having an effect on headphone volume

I use ALSA and have both my 'front' (speakers) and 'headphone' audio volume set to max. Then I control the two by adjusting the master volume.
Since my last system update this worked fine however now when I change the master volume it only affects the sound coming from my speakers and my headphones are constantly at max unless I specifically change the headphone volume in 'alsamixer'. This is inconvenient since I have the master volume controlled by hotkeys.
I know I can work around this and hotkey my controls to change both the master and headphone volumes but this leaves room for things getting out of sync. Is there a way to revert back to the old method?

    Hi-
"Essentially" a clone and a clone are not the same. There are alot of things that don't get copied when you simply drag folders. Pathways to aliases are one of them.
Use SuperDuper! (the best IMHO) or Carbon Copy Cloner to get real bootable clones of your system and files.

  • Volume control in flash player

I can't seem to find a way to control the volume of the ads that appear when watching videos.  The ads block the volume control and are much higher than the flash volume settings.  Congress passed a law, called CALM to make this unlawful, but it seems that broadcasters are not willing to comply.  The volume hurts the ears and I can't find a way to control it with some kind of master volume control.
Does anyone know of a solution?

Veetle.com and Justtin.TV are two examples.  I usually have my OS volume at about 1/2 and this allows me to set the volume inside Flash at about 75%  The problem is that when the ads inside flash come up, they are at full volume.
The law that Congress passed states that it must be at the average volume.  The ads shut off the volume control so you have no choice to lower the volume.  Before, they did have a volume control within the ad.  I think Hulu did this.
One of the reasons the law was passed was because the volume was set very low on the base program (tv show) then the ads would come on much louder.  Congress passed a law last year that takes effect in two days stating that they must be at the average volume.
I run serveral programs and have the OS volume set so that I can here other programs, then some ad comes on a blasts my ears with no way to control the volume within the ad.
If you read the law as it is written, it must be at the average volume.
It's clear the advertisers have found a way to bypass the volume set in the Flash player
According to the law, the volume of the ad needs to be the same volume as the program.
"The bill passed on September 29, 2010. The bill requires the use of technology to ensure that commercials will be played at the same volume as the program."

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20025823-503544.html
I'm not sure how the ads are produced, but simply having a volume control on the ads would at least help.  It can be pretty painful to have someone scream in your ears.  If someone is using headphones as I sometimes do, or self powered speakers as I always do they can suffer damage to the ears.

  • Master Volume Adjustments Docs

Apple's GarageBand '11 Help file says:
When the Master Volume automation curve is active, you can't adjust the master volume slider.
I found this is not so. Unlike the track volume sliders and automation curves, one can move both of the Master Volume controls independently of the other, and both are active.
Some questions: Does one override the other when exporting to disk or sending to iTunes? Is this a bug? How do I call Apple's attention to this?
    TIA.

    Hi,
first of all: The "Master" Fader is for trimming your mix to your monitors only. The bounce will be taken from the "stereo output" channel, so look there for the correct volume.
Now for the loudness issue: Garageband has kind of a built in foolproof bouncing. Normally, you would have to adjust not only volume to be an loud as you wish, but you have to insert some plugins into the stereo output channel to ensure that the signal doesn't get any louder than 0db, because this will produce clipping and with raising volume, distort the sound. But:
You can raise the volume if you insert the LIMITER plugin as very last plugin into the stereo output channel. Make sure it is the last plugin so there are no changes to loudness after it, not even an eq!
Any change of loudness before the limiter will be limited (hence the name) to a maximum of 0db by default (you can change the value - i use -0.1 db just to be sure.) while the softer parts of the music are being raised in loudness. If you listen to it, you'll notice the whole song is louder without distorting. Of course, if you overdo it, you'll hear the squished dynamics. Experiment!
Garageband seems to have a built in preset to perform these tasks fairly well. In Logic, you have the freedom of using or not using these settings and to customize them, which is quite normal for a pro tool.

  • Bypass master volume for constant white noise play (KDE)

Is there a way to play sound while ignoring the master volume control, even bypassing mute?
I have tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and I get relief of these symptoms by playing white noise 24/7, I currently am using http://playnoise.com/ but there are many different sources of white noise, it could even be an mp3. I like it to be playing at the same volume, all the time, no exceptions. But, when I turn the volume up and down via my media keys or system tray, for a song playing in Amarok or a video playing in YouTube the white noise is also turned up and down, this is not needed or desired.
What I'm trying to do goes against the definition of what a master volume is, but I figure it's worth a shot to ask.
The next option would be to have volume adjusters for applications which I have seen done before. 90% of the time I'm adjusting web browser volume.
(I have medium-ish experience with Arch)
    Thanks

tricky, but you could achieve that with alsa's softvol plugin.
first you need to have alsa-plugins installed
then add something like this in your ~/.asoundrc
    pcm.!default {
    type plug
    slave.pcm "softvol"
    ctl.mixer0 {
    type hw
    card 0
    pcm.softvol {
    type softvol
    slave.pcm "hw:0,0"
    control {
    name "Master2"
    card 0
this should create software volume control called 'Master2' and make applications use it as default (you need to restart all audio applications and sound servers until it takes effect.)
now you should be able to play white noise from mp3 and set the 'real' master channel for it's output, while all other applications are controllable via Master2. Ideally you should set your card's real master volume to 0db
only issue with this that your white noise will be played full blast unless the application from where you're playing it from has its own software volume control. You can solve this by adding another softvol device in your .alsarc (simply copy the pcm.softvol part and change the control name from Master2 to something else) and use it as output and volume control for the noise.

  • How Do Control My Master Volume?

How do control my master volume?, i can only control it on my keyboard but not on the top right corner. its supposed to be black but its grey and no sound.

  • How does KMDF driver control the master volume of Windows?

    Dear Sirs:
I am developing a KMDF codec driver.
One of features is that the user can press buttons which are attached on a headset to manipulate the render volume.
Is there any windows API available to allow me to control the master volume of Windows under KMDF developmnet?
    Thanks a lot.
    Sincerely,
    Zale Yu

    Hi Doron,
Thank you for pointing out the direction. Here please allow me to ask two questions, and also please review a possible solution.
    Question:
    - may I ask for more details on how to do this underlying bus driver? i.e. could you kindly list a few steps on how to do this?
    - Any related samples available in MSDN WDF I can look at to get th idea/even reuse the code?
    Possibl solution:
    - how about claiming the codec device as a HID devic as well, and make a minidriver to pass through IRPs to filter driver which captures/interprets the button-press interrupt and then send HID report to change system volume? is this feasible?
any conflict: Can Kernal add th driver (now Codec function Driver, Mini driver and a HID filter driver all together) stack together -- so the right driver can process the packet interested?
    Thanks again.

  • Alsa: I want "Volume Control" to control PCM instead of Master

As in the subject, I would like the volume control to modify the PCM volume instead of Master.
My multimedia keys work the same, so at the moment I have to manually change PCM from the audio preferences.

Well, I suppose I was kind of tight on information...
For volume control I mean either the volume control applet, either the multimedia keys.
Now, both of them control the Master Channel of the mixer, while the only one that changes something in the volume is the PCM channel.
I looked in amixer, and I see my configuration.
In AlsaMixer I can happily control the volume (still from PCM).
What I would like to know is where my keyboard is configured to change the "Master" channel in the alsamixer, so that I can change it to the PCM (or at least have the Volume Control Applet to do that.
It might be worth to note that I am using a dell d630 on a dock, and the sound card should be the digital one in the dock rather than the one in the laptop.
Usually in ubuntu I had to mess with the sound manager to obtain a volume control on the keys.
P.S.:  you guys are FAST! Thanks for the help!

  • When using HDMI to HDMI cable the Master Sound Control is locked.

master sound control is locked when using HDMI to HDMI using an HDTV for the display.
Although itunes sound control works.  Why is the Master Control locked?

    cpfamilia wrote:
    Hello,
I am new to OS X and i have tried to adjust the sound when plugged to the secondary monitor through HDMI which of course didn't work.
I have been using windows and a linux for years now, and everything works seamless.
I believe that this could be easily solved by Apple as long as their are willing to do it. Having a virtual device for sound control is not that difficult.
    All the bests
There are two ways to 'solve' this.
Alter the volume before sending the digital signal down the HDMI connection, this means the signal is no longer exactly as it was originally. Apple's current (apparent) view is that this should be done at the end i.e. playback device not at the originating (Mac) end so as to minimise the number of devices making changes to the signal. Basically 'volume' is the amplitude of a an analogue wave form. (Where else do you think the term 'amp' comes from.)
Not to alter the volume of the signal at the Mac end but instead to send a signal down the HDMI cable to tell the end i.e. playback device to alter the volume, this uses a standard called CEC (Consumer Electronics Control), unfortunately at the moment no Macs support this standard - it has to be supported at a hardware level so a simple Apple software upgrade to implement this is not possible. I have previously logged an official enhancement request for this with Apple - the more people who do this the more likely it is to be added, since now all Macs include HDMI it might happen at some point.
As an addendum to option 2 above, see http://www.pulse-eight.com/store/products/104-usb-hdmi-cec-adapter.aspx this would however require software support in whatever application is being used. XBMC for Mac does support it.

  • SB Audigy2 w/Vista: Creative Volume Control conflict with Windows Volume Control(sndvol.ex

    Hi Everyone,
I'm running Windows Vista on a Dell Dimension 8300 with a SoundBlaster Audigy 2(WDM) card. I have a few no-mind questions about how these things all work together:
. After I installed Creative's Vista driver upgrade for the SB Audigy 2 series, I noticed that there are now two volume control icons in the system tray. One is for the Creative Volume Control. The other is the original Windows Volume Control (sndvol.exe). Should these two controls be running at the same time?
    2. The Master Volume is a lot lower in Vista than it was in XP. When I let Vista pick the sound drivers the first time around, I figured the lower volume had something to do with those. So I downloaded and installed the Vista SB Audigy 2 Driver Upgrade from Creative's website. The volume is still very low, however, and I have to peak all my volume controls to hear much of anything. Does anyone have any ideas why this should be so?
Thanks to all who took the time to read this! Have a good day,
    Big Al Mintaka

    Hi DakkonA,
Have you been in contact with Support? I would advised you to get in touch with them to rectify this issue.

  • Missing 5.1 volume controls in windows xp

) I have audigy se card, tried both 620 and 62 driver. The thing is that I dont have volume controls for all channels when set to 5. speakers. There is allways only master volume, that controls left and right speaker. Is there any way to get volume controls per channel? I will try SB P7X Series Support Pack 2.0 and see if that fixes anything. OS is windows xp sp3.
    Thanks in advance.

Also, i do not know if it's of interest, but the reinstall did not reinstall AAS. It was there when I followed the initial uninstall phase.
Yeah, that's of interest. If AAS isn't installed, Safari shouldn't launch. (I'm more used to it producing launch error messages, rather than an error-message-free launch error, though.)
Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)
