Master Web Template (restrict # of data providers)

Hi!
Quick question:
After suffering bad performance with a huge web template (about 70 queries), we were told to strip down the template into several small ones. We have now splitt them down into 4 web templates (15-20 each) and linked them into one master template via TAB panes, still it seems that all 70 queries are executed at once, when starting the main template. Any idea how to direct execution to just one (sub) templated at a time with the start of the main template!?
Points will be awarded for useful information.
Frank

Thanks for your swift reply.
A couple of questions.
How is it possible to not assign a query to data provider(s) in the web template definition, I was under the impression all utilized queries had to be defined as data providers in order to be used in the web template!?
The command you mentioned would "activate" the queries upon an event (user interaction), would it be possible to set the displayed queries back to "inactive" after having left the TAB panel, in order to save memory!?
Looking forward hearing from you.

  • How to use master master web templates?

    Hi,
I have around 20 reporst in BW to be displayed on web. Hence I have created Web Template for each of them. Format and Layout of these web templates is exactly same. The problem is, if there is any change to layout or if any new funtionality needs to be added/removed from toolbar, I need to repeat same for all 20 web templates.
Is there anything where I can create one master web template and give reference of this template to all new templates I will create. And if I change master web template, automatically it will reflect all referencing web templates.
Can this be achieved? Please let me know.
    Thanks
    Abhijit

    Hi Abhijit,
One way to work this is to use the embedded templates. For example put your toolbar in a template, then embed this template (TB_WT001) into each new one that you have created. Then if you change TB_WT001, the change will be reflected wherever it is embedded.

  • Web Template with multiple Data Provider Query with partial authority

    Dear Guru,
I have a single web template, that contains 2 query data providers (e.g. Query A, Query B), and all users access to this web template for both queries.
Now, there are some users that have authority to Query A only.
When they access to this web template, the system automatically say the users do not have authority for Query B in the variable entry screen, and show the variable selection for query A only.
And the problem comes, when user submit the variable entries, the system keep asking for the mandatory variables for query B, which the user actually not authorized to execute. How can this be fixed??
Please kindly help me. Thank You.
    Best regards,
    Chris

    Hi all,
I am looking into the use of Javascript and CustomExtension, but still cannot find any solution.
Can I use CustomExtension to generate Javascript to redirect the page to another web template??
Can I use Javascript to check authority of the users, and alter the Web Items?
Can Anybody help? Many many thanks.

Open the template in WAD and do a validation against the server and make sure the template is well formed.
Also make sure you apply BI JAVA Patch 1 for SPS 13.

  • Web template - No precalculated data found

I'm trying to precalculate the data in a web template using reporting agent.  It is a template with only one data provider that does not require a control query... the input variable screen values can be stored in a variant so it is pretty straightforward.  In the setting I asked it to precalculate the data.
The precalculation job runs successfully, but when changing my URL to DATA_MODE=STORED I continue to get the message "No precalculated data found".
Are there any tips you would suggest of things to check?  How can one tell if it is working or troubleshoot this?
I checked OSS notes and found some interesting notes but they were for older support pack levels than us.  We are on BW 3.5 SP 10.
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hello Guys,
I have same problem and i am with BW 3.0b service pack 26.
So Can any one give me the exact sytax of the URL to call the precalcuated webtemplate which was scheduled using Reporting agent with variant .
Because i am getting error " No precalculated data found for data provider <dataprovider name>" when i am trying to call using below URL
    http://<BWapplication server url>/sap/bw/BEx?cmd=LDOC&template_id=<template technical name>&variant=z_usoo&DATA_MODE=stored
Z_US00 is the name technical name of the variant i used in the reporting agent.
Please let me know if i am missing some thing

  • Web template precalculation - system date as variable

    Hi,
I would like to define a RA setting for a web template precalculation.
The underlying query makes use of a date variable that should automatically pick up the system date.
How can I define a variant for precalculation that automatically selects the system date?
    Thxs.
    Laurent Querella

    Hi Josef,
I was reading thru this thread and was wondering if you can help with this.
I am using key due date, posting date and clearing date variables in an aged recievables query and the Key due date is user entry and that is used to determine both posting date and clearing date by filling them for each aging buckets.
I tried using the variable 0DAT to see if I can use that to populate the system date for the key due date but it is coming up with errors that posting date is not determined.
    Hope u can help

  • URGENT!!  Reporting Agent Web Template not filtering data on dataproviders

I am having problems with Reporting Agent web template settings. I have a query that uses a pre-query for MANAGER. I also have a query view for this query (I also tried using just the query in the web template). I created a reporting agent setting on the web template and used the pre-query as the control query. I have 80 MANAGER's, so I expect 80 dataproviders with each dataprovider having the data for 1 MANAGER. I get the 80 dataproviders, but each dataprovider has data for all 80 MANAGERs.
The dataproviders are then emailed using an ABAP program.
I would use Information Broadcaster, but the managers are not necessarily BW users and the manager list is fluent, so I don't want to create a separate setting for each manager.
We are on BW 3.5 SP18.
    Many thanks!

  • How can Javascript in BW web template access query data

    Hi All,
I want to access the BW query data from within Javascript within the BW Web template. Can you kindly share ideas how I can make my Javascript reach the query results returned by the dataprovider query in the BW template.
    Your help is highly appreciated.

  • Long Query Runtime/Web-template Loading time

    Hi,
We are having a very critical performance issue, i.e. long query runtime, which is certainly not acceptable by client as well.
    <b>Background Information</b>
We are using web application designer (WAD) 2004s release to design front end of our reports built in BI 7.0 system.
    <b>Problem Area</b>
Loading of web template on browser
    <b>Problem Analysis</b>
Query taking so long time to run, whenever we load it through portal or even directly through web application designer. Current runtime for query is more than a min. And I have noticed that 95% of runtime is taken for loading variable screen. FYI – if I run query through Query Designer or BEx Analyzer, it takes 3-5 seconds to execute.
We have taken all the statistics and everything proves that query is not taking any time to execute but it’s the loading time which creates bottle neck.
    <b>Possible Cause</b>
Web template holding 11 data providers, 5 of which are based on queries and rest are on query views. These data providers load into memory in parallel which could cause delay.
These data providers expose detailed variable screens. Out of 21 input fields, exposed by web template, 8 fields are based on hierarchy node variables and 1 on hierarchy variable. And to my knowledge each time hierarchy/hierarchy node variable loads complete hierarchy into memory whenever they are called (in other words, its not performance efficient to use hierarchies).
I request you to please consider this as matter of high priority and provide me with suggestions to remove bottle necks and make the application performance efficient. Please let me know, if you need any further information.
    Thanks.
    Shabbar

I would recommend you see how long the query execution actually takes without running from the web template. If actually the individual query takes long time then you need to do some performance improvement on back-end side (aggregates, indexing,... and so on).
But the performance issue is only with web templates, then you need to find some notes on it, because, I remember we had to apply some notes in relations  of browser taking too long time to load the selection screen in web reports.
After exhausting all the option, then I will implement precalculating the query result before hand using broadcaster.
    thanks.

  • Possible to test aggregates via web template?

    Hi,
Is there i similar transaction code to rsrt to test web templates (instead of queries), for aggregates?
We have a web template with several data providers and queries, and it would be a lot easier to test via the template.
    BR,
    Niclas

    Hi,
after switching to html display you see a large box.  Just add &template_id=<your templayte name>.  The query field can be empty.
It only works for webtemplates created with WAD 3.5 however.

  • Load Web Template in Parallel

    Hi All
First i apologize if you see the message here and in BI General. i believe the message is related to that section:
    hi All
due to the fact that the standard Web Template execute the Data Providers sequentially, i have created an IFRAME tag. i was expecting to have a parallel processing. unfortunately i see still a sequentially read. basically i have included four Iframe tag in a Web Template (each of them call a web template) and i am expecting to have at least two prallel processing according to OSS note 968283. Below is my code:
    <TABLE cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=1 width="75%" border=0> <TR> <TD vAlign=top><IFRAME id=Frame name=Frame src="BEx?sap-language=EN&bsplanguage=EN&CMD=LDOC&TEMPLATE_ID=ZZ_TEST1" width=800 height=600></IFRAME></TD> <TD vAlign=top>

  • 'Data' option in Web template

    Hello Experts
We have a web template with the option to pre-calculate the data and store it. Under 'parameter' tab of the web template, in the top left corner, i have the option 'Calculate' - and there are four options available to store the data after the query is executed
    1)Data
    2)HTML for Web Browser
    3)HTML for Pocket IE
    4)EXCEL
I would like to know - when i select the option 1 'Data' where does the data get stored? Is there an internal table where this result is stored? If yes i would like to know which table is this and how can i access it and the data in it.(in case there is a special way to access the table other than SE16).
    Helpful answers will be rewarded.
    Thank You.

Not sure how the key gets generated which is used to import data from cluster. You can use external break point in this method and run your webtemplate with precalculated data to see what does the key constitue of . With ABAP once you have data in internal tables you can do whatever you like but why would you use precalculated web template to read data from one info provider and write to another cube. There are other ways like APD ( Write output of a query to ODS ) or data mart to achieve the functinality you want.

  • Creating Master Web Templatese embeding web templates etc

How do I create a Master web template such that if I make a change to this Master template, then all templates using this Master (say via embdedded web template web item) change automatically
Right now if I embed a web template (TEMPLATE-1)
    in another web template (TEMPLATE-2),
and then make a change to TEMPLATE-1 (e.g., Add a new web item to TEMPLATE-1)
This change is NOT propagated to TEMPLATE-2
HOW do I make this happen.
    Please advise. Thanks.

If you embed Template-1 in Template-2.
And you make a change to Template-1 - this change IS propagated to Template-2.
However, if you use a GROUP ITEM in Template-1, and make a change to this GROUP ITEM (add another web item for instance). This change is NOT propagated.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem.

  • Regarding upgrade of web report\web templates functionalites BW 3.5-BI 7.0

    hi all,
I m working on a Upgrade study from BW 3.5 to BI 7.0 for Web Templates, web items and java scripts.
Below is the scenario of the client system:
New web templates are created from the 6 master web templates available for publishing to a custom Portal (created using BSP and hosted on the WAS). TOOLBAR and FOOTER are custom web templates used in all Master Templates and contain various JavaScript functions and footer code respectively.
TOOLBAR provides the Toolbar, header and buttons functionalities in the Master Templates via the contained Javascript functions. FOOTER displays the date and time of issue as well the logged in user.
FOOTER1 and FOOTER2 are web items derived from FOOTER web template. They have different set of web item properties and are used to create web templates used through the custom Portal.
It is observed from BW Tables that out of 100 unique Web Templates available in the system, 90 are using TOOLBAR template and 95 are using FOOTER template.
No external Javascript .js files are used in the Web templates. Most of the Javascript functionality is contained in TOOLBAR and no other custom javascript in master templates. However, there are some derived web templates where custom javascript is contained.
Following is the process to create custom Web Templates in development server that are eventually transported to QA and Production:
    1)     The appropriate master template is identified and saved with new name in developer role.
    2)     Dataprovider is added to corresponding web items.
    3)     From the library, properties are transferred from master template to the custom template.
    4)     Report title is added in HTML tab.
    5)     No changes are needed in the Web Templates Properties except change of value in  “Show Jump Target in” field to the portal Frame ConPortal or _self in case RRI is to be used.
    6)     Some properties like Title, Width in Pixel, Affected Data Provider, etc. needs to be adjusted. Changes can be done to web items seen in Overview tab except the FOOTER and TOOLBAR web items. These web items are saved as reusable components in Library.
    7)     After all the changes the web template created is transported from development server.
To summarize, all master data for creation of web templates like reusable master templates, web items in library, web templates containing Javascript code are stored in dev. server. Custom web templates created from these are transported.
I want to validate the sequence of migration as below:
Following sequence has to be followed for the Web Templates and Queries Migration in development BI 7.0 Server:
    1)     Migrate the Individual BEx Queries first and perform functional testing.
    2)     Migrate the TOOLBAR template manually (create as new in BI 7.0 Toolset) and FOOTER template automatically (using Migration Tool).
    3)     Manually migrate the JavaScript code in TOOLBAR. Please refer to section ..for more details.
    4)     Migrate the library of reusable web items, if any.
(What to do if web item is custom or is not supported in BI 7.0)
    5)     Migrate the Master Web Templates manually (create as new in BI 7.0 Toolset) and automatically (wherever possible) and perform functional testing.
    6)     Migrate the custom web templates automatically (wherever possible) and manually, if automatic migration is not possible. Perform functional testing and data provider binding.
    7)     Perform jump target binding wherever applicable.
    8)     Transport custom templates, TOOLBAR and FOOTER to QA and Production subsequently.
Also i have the following questions:
    1. How to migrate functionalities accessed thru web templates like jump queries, general navigation blocks with filter, table interface, and are data providers automatically linked to web items or have to be done manually post migration.
    2. Do we need to migrate the library of reusable web items also.
    3. After migrating the master  web templates and javascript containing templates to BI 7.0, can we migrate automatically the custom webtemplates derived from master templates and containing the custom javascript that is now avaialbe in BI 7.0, will they pick up the custom code automatically.
    thanks in advance
    Regards
