Master2FAR HDD LED Problem

I'm having trouble getting my HDD LED to work correctly - it's always on. It's connected correctly according to the manual (top left pin positive, pin directly below that ground). My case wires for the led don't have positive and negative clearly marked for the connectors but obviously it only turns on at all one way. When it does turn on it doesn't turn off; when it doesn't start on it doesn't turn on at all (well it's a diode so it should only work one way anyway). Anyone else have the problem of the HDD LED not working correctly, or have ideas of what I should do?
Sorry I don't have the sig you guys seem to require around here but I don't think this problem calls for me to make one :P I'm using a standarde IDE drive which has never had a problem like this before and I plugged it into another system which showed the activity correctly :/

975X Platinum-PE PS/2 and HDD LED problems

Hi All
Been having a few problems with my board.
When my Microsoft Wireless keyboard is connected to the PS/2 Ports directly it works fine, however I have two PS/2 2m extension cables, when I connect them the keyboard and mouse no longer work.
The other problem I have is that the Hard Disc LED is constantly dimly lit. When there is HDD activity it does flash bright with the actvity, would this suggest that there is a problem with the board?

The cables worked fine on the old MSI Board. Swapped to the new one - nothing.
Also the Dim Hard disk light is on when the POST is being performed, so it would suggest that there is a problem with the board or an Earthing Issue somewhere.
I have swapped it with another board and the hard drive light issue is still there.

[875P Neo Series PCB 2.0] HDD LED & ATA133 support

I am using the MSI 875P NEO2-FIS2R (MSI 6758) PCB 1.0 and, as most user's know, the HDD LED does not function when S-ATA HDD's are connected to any of the S-ATA ports or when the drives are connected to IDE 3. (I.e. the LED only works when HDD's are connected to IDE1 or IDE2).
Can anyone tell me for sure, if MSI have resolved the HDD LED problem on MSI 875P NEO2-FIS2R (MSI 6758) PCB 2.0?
Also, I have just bought two Maxtor 250GB P-ATA133 drives and, if I'm not mistaken, there is no Promise Controller on PCB 2.0. So does that mean my drives will only operate at UDMA 5 instead of UDMA 6?
And lastly, what are the differences between PCB 1.0 and PCB 2.0?

Danny: Yes, I understand what you are saying about the transfer rates but despite that, provided my Maxtor ATA133 drives (with a 16MB cache) were connected to IDE3 on a PCB 1.0 board, they would be detected as ATA133 drives and UDMA6 would still be shown during POST and also in Device Manager.

Thunder: It's nice to know that the HDD LED is now working for S-ATA connected drives on PCB 2.0 of the MSI 875P board, but am I correct in saying that there is no support for ATA133 drives on the PCB 2.0 board?
If your answer is no, then with the primary/secondary IDE1 & IDE2 ports being ATA100, why on earth have MSI removed the IDE3 port on PCB 2.0 version, thus removing all support for ATA133 drives?
That seems crazy to me!
I was going to buy the MSI 875P PCB 2.0 board but if version 2 no longer offers any ATA133 support for my drives, then I may as well stick with PCB 1.0.

StoragEdge 3510 FC HDD LEDs are blinking continuously

Hi,
I am facing problem with Sun StoragEdge 3510FC with 146x12 and 2 arrays of RAID -5.
Problem Descrp: After upgrading Firmware from 3.27r to 413c. the HDD LEDs are blinking continuously but this problem is started after upgrading the New Firmware.
Please let me know if anyone knows the solution.

Sounds like the 'media scan' functionality of the new firmware. You can check its running with show media scan from sccli. You can also abort it if you wish

MSI X58 Pro: HDD LED does not work for S-ATA drive

Hi,
I've got a problem with my brand new MSI X58 Pro: I've got an S-ATA HDD (Samsung 640GB) and an S-ATA DVD drive (Pioneer) installed in a Compucase 6X Miditower. There is NO(!) IDE drive. I don't get the HDD LED to work! I've tried everything including a BIOS update to 7.1 - the LED stays out.
I found some reports in the internet from people having a similar problem: no HDD LED for S-ATA drive activity.
Is there anybody else having this problem? Isn't that possible in general? Is that a problem of the board? The HDD drive?

You are talking about the status LED on your case, right?
- Is it properly connected to the right pins on the correct header?
- Double-check for +/- pins and make sure the plug is not connected the wrong way.
- Make sure, the LED is not defective.
- Make sure the cables are not defective.
- Make sure there is no problem with the pin-plug to the board.

RED HDD LED flashing

my system posts and everything just noticed the led flashing i dont know how long its been doing it because the graphics card obscures it from my vantage point when im standing near the computer i only saw it cause i was on the floor today

Flashing/blinking HDD LED is normal. What's the problem? It's alive, active, & well.

HDD Led with SATA HDD

When I use SATA HDD the HDD LED doesn't work. It works OK with ATA HDD. Where is a problem?

HDD LED keeps glowing

I have T430s laptop and when i installed Lenovo pawer manager the HDD LED keeps glowing after that. If i uninstall Power manager it bacomes normal.
Note: I have installed latest version of Power manager.

Please clarify the boot delay time... is it seconds or minutes? I've installed non-IBM optical drives into the Ultrabay 2000 (mainly T23 systems) and have found that some drives cause a boot delay of around 20 seconds (blank screen after the IBM splash screen and before Windows starts loading). I have also seen some systems not boot Windows at all, but in my case I gave up after letting the system sit for only 1 or 2 minutes (not 10-15).
Not sure about any solution other than to replace the drive(s). I know that there are some registry edits you can do to make Windows recognize "missing" drives (use Google to search for "missing cd drive upper filters"), but I don't know if that would solve your problem.

HDD LED fixed and staring, DKA790GX

New system, DKA790GX in a Cooler Master HAF 932 case. Case has two, bright blue LEDs on the front panel for power and HDD activity. The HDD LED is on constantly. When I switch the connector is if off constantly.
Any ideas? Manual, and M-connector, says it should be pins 1 and 3 on header JFP1, with pin 1 being positive.

@Bas - well, my manual, the m-connector, and the Quick Guide all show pins 1 and 3 as the HDD LED. Looking "face on" with the blank as the top most right position, pins 1 & 3 are the leftmost two on the bottom row. I switched them as you suggested just in case, but no change.
@Henry - I don't have any indication of another problem. The OS and all other s/w has installed fine. I can't actually hear the HD spinning, so I guess it is possible it is constantly accessing *shrug*.
Unless...this is my gaming rig, and I went straight to Windows 7 Beta. The MSI Live Update utility crashes, so I've updated my BIOS to 1.60 using Bas and Bosskiller's method using a USB Key et al. Perhaps I am missing some other updates or drivers?

K7N2 Delta-ILSR HDD LED wont turn off

It looks as tho I am the only one having this problem so far. I just installed my MOBO and the HDD LED shows no activity and will not shut off. All I get is a solid light. Anyone got any ideas?

If you know about LEDs you'll know they only work one way. Reversing the polarity will cause it to not work at all and yes just for fun I have tried it. Also I have nothing connected to the raid yet.

SATA and HDD LED on K7N2 Delta-ILSR

I bought the motherboard about a month ago and ive never gotten the HDD LED to work with my SATA hard drive. I have an old WD 5400RPM 40GB in the IDE-1 socket, a LG 24X10X40 CD-RW in IDE-2 and a new WD 120GB drive on the SATA-1 port. The LED works with my other 40GB hard drive, but not with the 120GB SATA hard drive. Any answer on why?

This is a known issue on some SATA boards, the drive LED seems to work for some - and not for others. BTW, this is not an MSI only issue. AFAIK, there is no fix for it - unless of course somebody knows better???
At a guess, SATA is quite new (in the general scheme of things) and I don't think they've quite "Ironed out" all the "Teething problems" often seen in new hardware.
In my opinion it's not a bad idea to wait for the "Revisions" to make an appearance before committing to newer hardware. But that's just me!
Does anybody else know any more on this issue???
There is a freeware program you can download from here that may help - it displays drive "LED's" on your desktop.

MSI 875 Pro Neo FIS2R - HDD-LED doesn`t work

Hello,
yesterday I got my new MSI 875 Pro Neo FIS2R.
Installation of motherboard and Windows XP went without any problem. So I`m very satisfied with this Board.
But now I noticed, that the HDD-LED doesn`t show any activity.
Then I turned around the HDD-LED plug of the Case with again no success: The HDD-LED doesn`t shine...
My (IDE-)storage-components are:
Primary Master: NEC DVD-ROM
Primary Slave: NEC DVD-RW
2 x WD Raptor (SATA) as RAID0 (ICH5R)
Is there anything wrong ? What can I do ??

K8N SLI-FI - HDD LED always on

To anyone that has used this board, have you had any problems with the HDD LED always being on??
One of my customers returned two of these boards to me saying that his HDD LED would always stay on with both of the boards. Thinking that he was just plugging in the LED backwards or something, I tried it for myself and sure enough the HDD LED would always be on. Everything else worked fine with the board, POST fine, installed WinXP fine, but the LED would always stay on, not blinking or anything, when the hard drive was actually working/accessing. Even running memtest, the LED stayed on solid.
Hooking the LED up in reverse caused the LED to no work at all. Tried with IDE hard drive and SATA drive.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has this problem. I don't have any more of these boards in stock to test with .

No, the power LED is working fine. It stays on like it should. When both LEDs are hooked up they both are on constantly. I've tried different LEDs I have lying around the shop, mostly from broken cases, and any LED I plug into the HDD LED connector stays on constently. Any LED plugged into the power LED connector turns on and stays on like it should. By reverse I ment that I connected the positive to the negative and negative to positive. Just as a test. And the LED did not light up. Which is supposed to happen I think.
It's the first time I've seen this problem and the only conclusion I can come up with is there is something wrong with the boards. It's just where there are two boards, both with the same, silly, little problem.
Could it be the brand of hard drive?? I've tried with an IDE Maxtor and IDE Seagate, and a SATA Seagate. Is there a setting in the BIOS that would cause this??

hi guys, well there is not much to say only that my hdd led not work, rarely i put attention on it, but just when i see... is gone... sniiiff.. i tryed change the led, invert cables, and the raid controller has nothing to do with this issue, sometime ago i have power issues, and during those times the led suddenly "wake up" , then i change the psu, and hdd, now i have sata hdd, and somebody told me the led not work with the 3· ide or sata, culd be the data cable

That's not what you said in your first post. IF IDE HDD works (even if HDD led doesn't work) then IDE cable should be OK. Perhaps HDD light case/mobo connection has a problem.

990fxa-gd80 HDD LED

Hello,
Now this might be a simple question or it might even show how little i know about PCS.
But i recently installed the 990fxa-gd80, ever since i installed it the HHD LED has been blinking. Now i know the manual says that if its on it means its working , reason im asking is all the other LEDs on the board are shining in blue, this one is in red.
Do i have a problem or is this me worrying too much?

Normally HDD leds blink when read/write operations are ongoing.
As many operating systems do read/write all the time, even when doing "nothing", they do read/write to e.g. save the registry or do housekeeping.
Vista, to name one, is very busy when doing "nothing"
