Mastering and/or mixing narration & music in PSE 11 slide shows

I cannot find a way to get acceptable quality out of slide show audio options in PSE 11. Using clips of a music recording instead of the whole piece produces amateurish clicks or abrupt cuts instead of smooth fade-outs. Mixing narration with background music does not seem to be possible at all. Are there eventual plug-ins or other means available to get around this problem?

I am trying to add music to my slide show and I get this error:  The selected file cannot be played because your system does not have the required compressor/decompressor (codec) installed.  I went to the Adobe site and downloaded a codec program, and restarted but still got the same error.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you - I followed the instructions attached to your response, and I deleted the artwork from the three songs that I want to use, however, when I drag them into Photoshop I am still getting the same error message.  I also don't see an option to convert the song to an MP3.  I tried going to File and Get Info, and there isn't an option.  I also tried right click on the song, but didn't see anything there either...?

  • Add Music to a Slide Show - Editing Together Multiple Clips

I want to create a slide show using three songs, and I need to trim each song.  Is there a way to do this in Elements?  If not, what software should I use to edit the music into one audio file that can be added to Elements?  I can't seem to do that in Windows Media Player.  Thanks!

Which version of Photoshop Elements ?
1 - The PSE slide show editor does have a very basic capability for trimming music.
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-photoshop-elements-8/getting-started-22-creating-a-slide-s how/
demonstrates using a trim of the audio which I think will also apply to other versions of PSE
2 - Do you also have Adobe Premiere Elements ?  If yes, you could add your music and trim it within Premiere Elements.
3 - Or a free editor for audio for which I have heard recommendations is - Audacity.
I think that it would be capable of creating the single music file for your slideshow.

Because the location for each song in your library is on your hard drive.  If the hard drive isn't there, how can iTunes play it?
You'll have to move/copy the music from your hard drive to your computer's hard drive.
Basically, EASIEST way to do all this, if you don't care about your play counts, etc...
-Delete EVERYTHING from iTunes, so that your library is now empty.
-Go to "Advanced" inside of the "Preferences" window, found in the "Edit" drop-down.  You can also access Preferences by pressing Ctrl+, (Press Ctrl and the comma key)
-Change your iTunes Media Folder Location to something simple, but on your computer. I use C:/iTunes.  Make sure "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized" and "Copy files to...." are both checked.  You can close Preferences now.
-Now, drag and drop your music from your hard drive into your iTunes library.  iTunes will automatically add the music to your library, as you would expect, and also creates a copy of each file to place into that iTunes Media Folder you just created.
    Shouldn't have any more problems...

  • Music with a slide show

In I tunes, I croped some song to start at a particular location. This works fine in Itunes. However, when I use this music for a slide show in Iphoto, it plays the entire song insted of starting at the cropped point. Why?, and how do I fix it?

    Alan:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The iTunes edits work only for iTunes. To trim a track in any way you'll need to do it with another application. You can do it in Garageband. I use the 3rd party editor Amadeus Pro. There are some freeware editors like Audacity. With Amadeus I can open a track select that portion I want to use and copy to a new file and then save. I do that for iDVD slideshows when I want to set the music for a specific total time for the number of slides that I've selected. Works very nicely. IMO Garageband is overkill for simple editing and I don't have it installed.
Another way to achieve what you want is to export the slideshow without music and edit it in iMovie. There you can add the audio tracks, trim, overlap, etc. and then save the composite movie file.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I want to add music to a slide show

I want to add music to a slide show but only let music play for a certain number or slides then a different song for the next set of slides...how do i do this?

    Hello Auchattie
What are you using to create the slideshow? If you have iMovie for your iPhone then you can add different music tracks for specific parts for the photos that you added for the slideshow. Check out the page below as it is the user guide to do create a slideshow as well as adding different songs and adjusting it to only play a small part.

  • Problem with adding music to a slide show

I am trying to add add'l music to a slide show in Elements 9.  The first songs added easily.  I am now getting a message that the "codec" is insufficient.  There does not seem to be any difference in the properties of the songs that are being rejected and the songs that loaded.  How do I correct this to add the MP3 songs?

Thanks for your response. In answer to your questions:
    1. What is PRE?
    2. mpeg is not a choice on my version of pse7. Only mp3, wav, wma and ac3.

  • Adding music to a slide show from Itunes

How do i add music to a slide show from itunes? When i go into the Itunes folder I get all the way to where the music file should be and it says there are no files found.

    Hi Rodney,
    Here's what you do.
When you click on music and the window opens, click on your library then look at the bottom of the window where you will see a small clear dot - click and drag this up and voila - there's the music.
A very annoying feature that iPhoto hides this section by default.

  • Access my itunes library to add music to a slide show in iPhoto

I can't seem to be able to add music to a slide show in iphoto, I shoud be able to access playlist in itunes but it doesn't seem to work.  I have tried the fix on help but still not working.  Any thoughts?

I'm experiencing the same problem with both iPhoto & Aperture.
Aperture, iPhoto and iTunes versions are up-to-date as of April 13/13.
I've setup a new iTunes Library. Did not rectify the problem.
I've created a new iPhoto Library. Did not rectify the problem.
In Aperture, where the problem first appeared, I have deleted preferences, which did not correct the problem.
I then did a full rebuild of the database but the problem still exists.
    Somewhat baffled!

  • No Music allocation to slide show

After I installed iPhoto 11 I cannot allocate background music to a slide show.
The slide show itself comes up very, very slow.
Any idea what I should do??

    1. Lots of people report having "up-to-date" systems and software. You would be amazed what some folks consider "up-to-date" so best to tell is the actual versions you have.
    2. At a guess:
In iTunes go File -> Library -> Organise Library -> Reorganise Library.
    Then quit and restart iPhoto.
Credit to user keysandfood who figured that one out.
I have no idea what this means:
A picture MPEG and not a check box by the titles

  • I just installed iPhone 11 and when I try to play a slide show, it just blinks and and shows the whole group of pictures at once. I have done many slideshows with older versions of iPhoto. How can I fix this?

I just installed iPhoto from the iLife 11 and when I try to play a slide show, it just blinks and shows a whole bunch of pictures at once. I have done many slide shows with no problem in an earlier version of iPhoto. What can I do to fix this?

thats tough man, yeah exchanging it is the best option. But why do people always leave a message saying" i'll probably just by an ipod" and it's usually followed by, "even though i don't like apple or ipod" . I mean fine, if u feel like giving up on the zen micro thats fine, i personally don't care if you're going to buy an ipod. for god sakes ipod isn't even the next alternati've mp3 players, theres plenty. Are u just trying to get the creative people saying "oh man we lost another one to ipod" cuz i'm sure they don't lose sleep over u wanting to buy an ipod instead of a zen. *done ranting*

  • Synching music to iPhoto slide show

I have created a playlist in iTunes for my iPhoto slide show. It needs some tweaking here and there to align the music with the correct slides. Is there a way to start in the middle of the show to work on this or must I always start at the beginning. I know I could probably do this in iMovie, but I am crunched right now and don't know if I have the time to invest in learning a new program.
    Thanks.

    Carole:
With iPHoto you get what it gives you. If you want to precisely align the music with slides export the movie without music. Then import the movie into iMovie and add the tracks. In iMovie you can overlap the tracks for transitioning from one to another, cut tracks to fit, etc. The save the movie or export to iDVD depending on what the final use is.
    Do you Twango?

  • Music Trouble with Slide Show

I have used the slide show many times and have always had success with adding music from iTunes easily.
I have recently upgraded with the software update and included in that update was an iTunes update. I also updated the iPhoto recently, since creating the last slide show.
Today I have been trying to create a new slide show and add some music that I added to iTunes specifically for the slide show. All I get is a spinning disk and no response in iPhoto. The computer is not 'frozen' and I can access and use other applications while the disk spins in iPhoto, but iPhoto is stalled. I have had to force quit several times.
Any ideas? The iPhoto is 4.0.3 and the iTunes is 5.0.1. I am running on an eMac from last year.
    Thanks.

It may mean that there's another preference file in your User Preferences folder that is incompatible with iPhoto. I ran across this troubleshooting method a while back.
    Trouble Shooting Preferences
Go to HD/Users/Your_name/Library. Move the Prefs folder (in its entirety) to the desktop. Start iPhoto. Determine if problem is fixed.
If the problem IS fixed, then go to the new Prefs folder that the OS will have created and open it up. Except for those items that are obviously not related, move the contents to the old Prefs folder on the desktop, replacing what had been there. When in doubt, move the item. The worst thing that can happen is a harmless "alert" message. Then, trash what remains of the new folder. Finally, move the old (but modified) Prefs folder back to the library.
If the problem is NOT fixed, trash the new Prefs folder and move the old one back to its original location.
Otherwise you might want to reinstall the 10.3.9 COMBO updater followed by a permissions repair and reinstall iPhoto 4 from scratch and update it. If you do reinstall V4 you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder.

  • How do I insert music to my slide show using Iphoto application?

How do I insert multiple music song in Iphoto for slide show? look like the application will let you insert only 1 song and then they repeat themself till slide show over, I like to insert 3 or more songs and sync them to photo, please help, thank you vey much
    Stan
    SIlver G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Drag the multiple songs in a new playlist in iTunes.
Select the playlist in iPhoto (not a song in the list) and you'll have more than one tune playing with your slide show.

  • Music to a slide show

Most music on CDs is segmented into various songs or movements. They are short and run out before a slide show is complete. They will then start to play over. Is there any way that more items of music can be added to the slide show so that selected music will not just keep repeating??

did you already try using the fit audio to slides within iDvd'08 when making the slideshow?
These links may help also in order to address the playlist you will need to make for your slideshow:
