Masterpage problems

Since we upgraded from CS3 to CS5 at my work, I have been experience highly annoying master page problems. The other members of the studio haven't been, even if we open templates that we all use, it continues to be ONLY ME that has this problem.
This is difficult to explain, but here goes:
Facing-page document
I have a spread, currently both the left and right sides have master A applied to them.
I would like apply master B to the left page, so i apply it. It still looks like master A, even though it has a little "B" in the pages panel. So technically it is a B, but it still looks like an A.
Alternatively, if I want to apply master B the right page, I apply it, and it works. The only problem is it changes the appearance of the left page as well even though technically it is still master A!!!!!
So it seems that the appearance to the left page is always connected to what master page is apply to the right page.
Sometimes I can unlock the items from the master page and delete them. Other times it appears i've unlocked them, but when I select and delete and the items just stay there, being evil and ruining my day.
Can you see why i want to scream and run around the studio like a nut bag? Somebody save me, i'm going insane. PLEASE.

It sounds like you have an object spanning the spread on Master B. When you apply the master, you can’t bring over only the part that’s on the left page, so you get the entire object and it spills over onto the right page. Edit Master B so the object does not span the line between the pages.

Change the look and custom themes, masterpage problem

I have created a masterpage and deployed it to the masterpage gallery.
I have created a spcolor file and a spfont file and deployed them to the theme catalog.
I have also created a New item in the composed look list like this:
Masterpage: /_catalogs/masterpage/mycustom.seattle.master
Theme: /_catalogs/theme/15/mycustom.spcolor
Font: /_catalogs/theme/15/mycustom.spfont
Image: none
DisplayIndex 3
The problem is this: The theme is not displayed in the Change the look preview window.
But if i change the masterpage back to std (/_catalogs/masterpage/seattle.master) in my composed look item. THEN it is displayed ??
Changing back to my custom masterpage, then it disappears.
Everything looks right, i can apply the theme through code. Masterpage is also changed in code and works.
The only place it doesn't work is in change the look.
The masterpage is deployed like this:

InDesign Masterpage Problem

Hi,
I've unleashed an object from the master page. Then I wanted to delete it, but the object is still visible.
I know that the object stays on the master page if I unleash it but regularly it has to be invisible.

If you reapply the master page (perhaps by adding or deleting a page earlier in the document), the master object will reappear. You could make a second master, based on the first, and delete the object from the master.

I have great trouble creating a form with a variable header on my MasterPage. I use LC Designer and LC Output
I create a flowing header block subform that contains 3 subforms on my Masterpage =
subform 1: contains date > allways visible
subform 2: contains label and text stating salesperson > visible if data, hidden otherwise
subform 3: contains label and text stating contractnumber > visible if data, hidden otherwise
All 3 subforms are in a flowable container subform, so subforms flow nicely up if salesperson subform has no data and is hidden
First I tried with 'repeat subform for each data element' - but only works on first page the masterpage is used and NOT 9 other pages if 10 pages total - no go!
Second I tried with script code that hide the subform if no data. Works fine when testing the rendering in Acrobat but NOT when merged with LC Output.There will just be an empty space if salesperson subform is hidden - as the layout is fixed and will not flow nicely. Tried all possible events but nothing works with LC Output.
There must be someone how had a similar challenge and nailed it - so please share your insights. Thanks in advance

I can't say in relation to LC Output, but in relation to Master Page objects, there are a few things to bear in mind.
While you may only have one Master Page with the subforms, when the form is rendered there are 10 instances of that Master Page. So it depends on how you are referencing the presence of the subforms and in what event. For example if you have the script in the textfield pointing out to the subform it may not work. Try having the script in the subform looking into the .rawValue of the textfield. That way it will work for all of the subforms in their own instance of the Master Page. You may have to use the layout:ready event, which is my least favourite.

When I deploy the SiteCollection, the TopNavigation user control is working correctly. Unfortunately when i modify the masterpage over SharePoint Designer, the following error message comes allways, regardless of the art of changes i did in the MAsterPage
( even if I open the MasterPage, add an space and do save/close the MasterPage).
"Problem when adding user control in my custom master page, Parser Error Message: The referenced file '/_layouts/Navigation/TopNavigation.ascx' is not allowed on this page."

Hi Simon,
When we use UserControl in SharePoint Page or MasterPage, and the UserControl is kept in any folder other than ControlTemplates, we will got the error. Here is an article about this issue and provided the solution:

My page is loaded into a palcehold within the Ajax update panel within the current Masterpage, so page loadload doesn't occur. But if my Muse page can capture the partial pageload then I can tell jquery to run the Muse formating routine.

Jackie, I am having the same issue and agree that it obscures our site analytics.
I only have the "WebMarketing" subscription - so I cannot see how often people visit my site (unless I just dont know how to view that). Here is a screen shot of how many different locations I have and how much it affects my site visitor count based on the other locations which seem "legit" because they have more page views than visits.
I hope there is a way to fix or block this.

Problem with preprint/postprint on masterpage and forms

hope you can help me...
on my masterpage i have a textfield that must be displayed, but must not be printed, so i hide it in the prePrint-event and make it visible again in the postPrint-event. works perfect so far.
BUT if i use the same system for hiding e.g. a dropdown-list in a form using this masterpage, the dropdown-list is hidden in print mode, but the textfield on the masterpage is printed and i have absolutely no idea why

I use normally patch 15 in my projects against 8i and 9i. patch 17 against DB 10g Rel. 1 and 10g Rel. 2 has no official patchset for Forms 6i.
you have to migrate if you must compile against the newest version of the DB

Problems with User profile Application not available

Have a 2 tier SP 2010, with SQL server and a single SharePoint2010 server. We have a problem with the User profile Application service.
The main problem is that we cannot go to "Edit" under Manage User Profiles. If we want to edit a user, we just get an error:

Based on the error message, I recommend to verify the things below:
Please make sure that User Profile Service is started in Central Administration.
Please make sure Forefront Identity Manager Service and Forefront Identity Manager Synchronization Service are started in services.msc.
Change the schedule for the "Timer Service Recycle" job to run during off peak hours, when a small amount of timer jobs are running.
Check ULS log for more detailed error message. For SharePoint 2010, by default, ULS log is at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS.

2-Column Flowed Layout Problem

Hi,
In the interest in saving paper and toner, I have begun using 2 column layouts.Here is something I'm working on:
MasterPage1 has 3 content areas (Header, LeftColumn,RightColumn) //restriced to 1 occurance
MasterPage2 has 2 content areas (LeftColumn,RightColumn) //occurances not restricted--used for content overflow from MasterPage1
MasterPage3 has 1 content area //occurances not restricted--NOT used for overflow from above--different content altogether
The Pagination is such that content flows through the LeftColumn,RightColumn content areas in the order shown above. It is slick! Overflow from the RightColumn of MasterPage1 goes to LeftColumn of MasterPage2. So far, so good. Just what I wanted... except
Here is the problem: When the form is first opened, there is no overflow--all the flowed 2-column content fits on MasterPage1. MasterPage2 exists however it doesn't have any content yet because there is no overflow yet from MasterPage1. It's rendered empty--I get an unused MasterPage2, between MasterPage1 & MasterPage3.
In a perfect world, I wouldn't have an empty MasterPage2 when the form opens. In a perfect world, MasterPage2 would only exist when there is content in the MasterPage2.LeftColumn content area.
I think there must be a scripting solution--like testing a content area for content. There are no events for a content area and the xml for a content area is an empty element with attributes for x, y, w, h, name and id.
So how do you test for content in a contentArea? Perhaps there is a different way?

Thanks for the demo. That is interesting--I think it might be possible to solve yours because you are flowing a single object and I think you could determine the total h value for it and control the occurrences of the MasterPage.
Something like setting MasterPage Max Occurance to 1 on the Object pallet
Then, track the combined h

JSLink (js) file in the masterpage gallery is caching the old version

I am using sharepoint 2013 online (office 365). I am trying to following this simple JSLink tutorial: http://www.abhishan.com/create-project-dashboard-with-sharepoint-2013-js-link/
I have added a js file to the masterpage gallery like described in the tutorial. I also have created a custom list. I have created a new page and add the custom list as a webpart to this page. In the webpart settings I have add the path of my js file in
the masterpage gallery. Now I see it has some affect because I see some broken images. I changed the path of the images in the js file and upload it again in the same libray (masterpage gallery) and overwrite it. This has no affect. SP is still running the
old version.
I have checked the js file out and checked in. Still same problem.
I have remove the js file and add it again with another image path. SP is still using the old version of the js file.
I have wathed the file in SP designer and it is the latest version!
I have watched the source code of the page and see the following registration of the js file:

When I run this path in my browser and save and open the file I see the old version.

According to your post, an problem occurred when you used JSLink in SharePoint Online 2013.
We can do as follows:
1. Check whether published the js file.
2. Create a document library(JSLibrary) and upload the js file in it.
3. Change the JSLink url in the web part settings.

Layer problem with exporting nested Indesign Doc in indesign doc to PDF

Hi folks,
I managed to create a PDF with very strange layer behavior... even with content that shows when ALL layers are turned off...
Here's how I did it:
- I placed our two page company letterhead indesign document in another Indesign document.
- Both documents have several layers (our company use up to 8 different languages for their corporate papers)
- The document that I exported to PDF, has itself two layers, and the nested Indesign document is exclusively on masterpages in the second layer.
- The nested Document has 4 layers visible, but consists of around 27 layers.
- Turning on the layer that contains the letterhead doc, correctly shows the corporate identity on all pages that are based on the master layers. Turning the layer off hides it. So far, so good.
- I use a PDF preset which renders a PDF with following settings:
- When opening the resulting PDF, the layers of the main document are all there, as one would expect. However, toggling the layers visibility renders a weird result... The document is 4 pages, a usage contract. You can download it from our server via this link. Now if you would toggle the layer visibility of the "letterhead_def actual" layer that is supposed to hold only the corporate identity, you will find that all works correctly for the first two pages... but on the 3rd, all contents seems to have been combined onto the second layer... and on the 4th page, the contents landed on a layer that isn't even listed in the layers panel, as turning ALL the layers off, still leaves the Terms and conditions visible...
This looks like a bug to me... I'm going to try and flatten the nested indesign document first, before I export to PDF to see what that brings, but that is of course quite the hassle.
Would be interested to see if more people have run into this thing...

Contrary to popular belief, I am not a complete moron However, since this problem could just as well be in Acrobat as in Indesign, I thought it best to post it in the Suite forum first.
Of course I could post in both the Indesign as well as the Acrobat forum, but then I'm sure there will be helpful readers suggesting me to put it in the other. One cannot win

I have reviewed in central admin. And my custom.masted is active.

Masterpage gutter overflow in CS5

Not exactly sure how to explain this, but it was a problem that was fixed in a previous version of InDesign that seems to have reappeared with CS5. If you have content that snaps to the gutter on a master spread, it now sticks to the facing page so if you use two separate masters on a spread, you have wrong content showing up on the opposite page. I'm opening files from CS3 in CS5 and am suddenly having the masterpage overflow throughout most of my documents. There are workarounds, such as splitting the spreads that use separate master pages, but that's a lot of extra work, and there's obviously a way to fix this because the problem was fixed in a previous version (CS3, I think). I don't like making content stand off the gutter because it creates a thin line of white in backgrounds where the pages meet, plus the "snap to" feature should put the content in the correct place without me having to zoom way in to offset the content to keep it from appearing as content on the opposite page.
Any one else seeing this problem? Is this a bug I need to report?

I think the key here is that you are working with CS3 files. If possible, export to .inx from CS3 and open that in CS5, or if you can't do that, open the CS3 file in CS5 and immediately export to .idml.
I may be wrong, but my rather too large gut says more people report issues opening CS3 files in CS5 than any other version.

Problems with SplitApp

Hi guys,
I have a simple SplitApp with a master and setail pages.
Problem :-
The problem is that when i am trying to emulate my code on a device or when i put it on my nexus 4, it shows the master screen on the entire screen.
And on clicking on any of the list items, it opens that detail page but then the hamburger icon is gone and there si no way to get it back.
Can any one tell me the solution to properly using a splitApp such that it looks the same way on a device or on emulation as it does on the browser normally..??

Hi Csound1
approx every 30 seconds the browser freezes and 'saving' appears in the top bar of icloud mail. The cursor starts spinning and then after about 8 secs I can start typing again. I also fiund that about 5-6 times a day my icloud browser tab showing mail just close and return to the main icloud menu page showing icons for mail, calender, notes etc

ASP Repeater in SharePoint 2013 HTML Masterpage

I'm in the process of building our public website in SharePoint 2013, which is much easier than it was in 2010!
I'm having problems using an ASP Repeater to build the navigation. It all works except for <%# Eval("Url")%>
How do I escape/comment the evals in the HTML file?

According to your post, my understanding is that you want to use <%# Eval("Url")%> in SharePoint 2013 HTML Masterpage.
You need to adding an entry to the web.config (see, for example,
this blog) to specify that your master page can have code blocks.

</PageParserPaths>
