Masters and previews all mixed up

Recently the wife has started organizing our large (over 73 gigs) iPhoto library and complained that many of the photos were displaying as small: thumbnail sized. Investigating, I opened the iPhoto Library and found that the contents of the Masters and Previews were quite jumbled. Using Spotlight I quickly discovered that for any given file there were at least 2 versions of each image, a full size (say 1.2MB or so) and a preview (60KB or so) but my Masters directory contains hundreds if not thousands of the little previews and there are lots of the full size images in Previews.
It also seems that, among the confused images, all the full size images have the uppercase "JPG" extension and the previews are lowercase.
I have tried repairing twice to no avail. I haven't rebuilt because I suspect it would compound the problem by making previews of my misplaced previews etc etc. I could easily use the Finder to search/sort by file type and size, save all the originals and start a new library, but I don't want to lose all the metadata, retouching, and so on. I suspect the problem started when migrating to new Macs from our old G5 and iPhoto 6. What's the best way out of this mess?

Sounds like when you migrated you imported your old library into iPhtoo on your new system
NEVER import an iPhoto library into iPhoto - it does not wrok and creates a massinve mess
The only real solution is to go back and do it correctly - drag the bad library to the desktop and then Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) or use an external hard drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

I did understand that pictures that are in "masters" AND in "previews" comes from a matter of rotation of the picture.
But, WHY, when I watch the picture from "masters", this picture has the same orientation as the one in "previews" ?
Other question : if I turn off the Auto-Rotate feature on my camera, i will have to rotate my pictures myself in iphoto, so it will create another picture in preview. Am I right ?
How can i do to stop having those pictures twice ?

Not necessarily. It's the nature of having cameras that autorotate photos for you. That's why I rotate photos before importing into iPhoto. If you take an overwhelming amount of portrait oriented photos then you would be better off following the workflow I posted earlier in order to save space. Otherwise I don't think it would make much difference. The MacBook Air is designed as a lightweight traveling device and often is used in conjunction with a desktop Mac at home. With that type of setup I would have my primary library on the desktop Mac and a smaller traveling library on the Air. I would use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager to transfer necessary photos via albums or events between the libraries as needed. The Air just isn't designed to handle the large libraries due to its limited storage capability. But that's just my philosophy.
If you edit a "normal" landscape photos you will automatically get a copy because iPhoto keeps the original/master file as its digital negative like all DAM (digital asset management) applications. There are high end DAM apps that you can edit and save the edited version over the original file if so desired. Media Pro 1 is one of them. I use it for may primary DAM work and iPhoto for special projects like books (a separate library for each book), cards, calendars, etc.

Podcasts and music all mixed in together

Dear people. Just bought a new computer and had music copies from old computer to new. My music is now all mixed up, all the podcasts are mixed with the music. When I download music and podocasts -instead of going into podcast directory, it just goes into most recently added. Can you tell me if there is a way of fixing this so when I download pocasts it goes into the podcast directory. Much appreciated.

[SOLVED] Timezones UTC and EDT all mixed up

I have the following settings in rc.conf:
HARDWARECLOCK="localtime"
TIMEZONE="Eastern US"
The clock in the lower right panel does indeed indicate the time in EDT. However, as a screensaver I use the big analog clock and I also put an analog clock in the Arch login window. Both of these clocks show the time in UTC, i.e. 4 hours ahead of EDT. What's worse, the time stamping of all saved files, logs, etc. is also in UTC, and the "date" command shows time in UTC. I believe this is the result of my at one time having run
# date -u
How do I reverse this so that all clocks and timestamping are synchronized to EDT?

"hwclock" gives the time in UTC.
After I ran hwclock, I went into the BIOS. The date and time in the BIOS was set for UTC time. I reset that to the EDT time and then did a warm reboot. That didn't make any difference in Arch.
I do dualboot into Windows XP. The time there is correct (i.e. shows it in EDT), both in the taskbar and when running "time" from the DOS CLI.
After resetting the BIOS and checking these things in Windows, I did a cold reboot into Arch. Now, in Arch, the login clock and the screensaver clock show the correct time (in EDT). The "date" as well as the "hwclock" command also give the correct time (in EDT) but they say that it's UTC! However, the clock in the bottom panel now runs 4 hrs. behind. When I right-click on this clock and choose "Adjust Date & Time", the "Configure - KDE Control Module" window that comes up shows the correct time (in EDT) and the entry "New York - America/US - Eastern Time" in the "change timezone" box is highlighted but underneath that box it says "Current local timezone: America/New York (UTC)".
When I highlight another entry in this change timezone box and then go back to the entry "New York - America/US - Eastern Time" and click on Apply, the clock in that box resets to 4 hours earlier. When I then redial the clock to the correct EDT time (with the up and down buttons) and hit <Enter>, it shows the correct EDT time and the line underneath the change timezone box now reads "Current local timezone: America/New York (EDT)". Also, the clock in the bottom panel now shows the correct EDT time.
When I now run the "date" command, it gives the time 4 hours ahead and says it's UTC (which is correct). When I save a file, it's timestamped to this UTC time. But I don't want to have all files and logs timestamped to UTC!! hwclock now gives the correct EDT time but says that it's UTC!
It gets worse. After making all of these changes, I did a cold reboot into Arch. Now the login clock and screensaver clock are back again to running 4 hrs. ahead (i.e. giving UTC time), and similarly the date and hwclock commands again give the time 4 hrs. ahead and say it's UTC (which is correct). And the KDE time & date adjust box again says "Current local timezone: America/New York (UTC)". I.e. any adjustment I make through the KDE Control Center Module doesn't survive a reboot. It looks as though the "date -u" command overrides everything. If only I could reset the "date" command to printing EDT time (which I believe is the default that was used before I ran the date -u command)! I've looked everywhere but haven't found a way to undo this -u switch and return to the default.
FWIW, I should say that I installed OpenNTPD, and I'm now running the ntp daemon (ntpd) on startup. I did this after I became aware of this time readout problem but running ntp didn't change anything.
Needless to say, I'm rather confused.

I have a mac air and an iMac and both have Pages. I use Pages on my air and save all documents to iCloud. I can see them on my iMac but it won't open with Pages. It becomes visible if I change it to open with preview but I can't interact with it.

They will open if I change it to open with preview but then all I can do is read it - I can't add to the document - All I want is to be able to see all my documents on all my devices and to be able to have them sync so I can add to the documents from any of my devices. I also have an iPhone 6 and an iPadair2 but I would be happy just to have the iMac and macair sync for starters. I have folders within folders in my documents,. The folders which contain pdf's and individual files open OK . The one I am having difficulty with is the file which I use for ongoing correspondence - in other words it is quite long - I keep adding to it ( by copying letters in and letters out so I can see a sequential history of what has been going on by scrolling down ) in date order so that it could be 1 - 100 pages long - but I don't think the size is a problem. I don't understand why some folders can open and others not . Has anyone any suggestions please. I have been trying to get this to work for months since iCloud drive came in. It has got much better but it is still not good enough - or maybe it's me?

All I can suggest is that you open that file on the MBA and save it as a new file, then see if you can open the new one on the iMac.

I am totally frustrated by the fact that now i have gone to iCloud and after a few synchs, my contacts are all mixed up with the wrong information. For instance, my email and phone number comes up under someone else's name (a thousand contacts)

An icloud account is designed to be used by just one user. If you have given your ID or set up your account on someone else's device, then their data will be mingled with your or worse.

PREVIEW SaveAll and Print All

I'm having a devil of a time with my Preview scans.
1. Is there a way to SaveAll scans that end up in a Preview Document? I have a bunch of tif's (sometimes these come in as a Document Feeder and sometimes they are a series of hand placed originals.
I know I can select them all and print them all to pdf as one document but is there a way to save all of them to a specific folder? Right now if I select them all I am not getting an option to Save All (it is greyed out) and if I select them all and Save As it seems to only save one image.
On the other hand I sometimes see a bunch of images in my Scanner Documents folder but I can never figure out how they got there. Do they go to this folder /only/ /after/ I run some kind of Save routine or are they always placed in this folder and then a SaveAs will put them somewhere else?
2. Why on earth isn't there a Print All option? Currently if I accidentally forget to select all my images and I go to Print Selected Images and then print to pdf I only end up with one page printed to pdf. This is a real pain as I oftentimes delete the original tifs so as to not take up extra space on my HD.
This dialog makes no sense to me. I have the option to Print or to Print Selected Images. If I Print after selecting all the images it only prints one but at the same time if I only have one selected and I run Print it only prints one document. Print Selected really seems like a tweeener command that should sit between Print and Print All. Anybody feelin me on that one?

I don't know if my problem is exactly the same as yours, but I find that printing some PDFs in Preview cuts off the bottom of some documents. This doesn't happen when I convert the document to open in Adobe Reader and then print with the Reader print dialog box. I can't find any settings in the Preview dialog box to correct this: There is no longer a separate Page Setup dialog box, and the three radio buttons in the Preview print dialog box ("No automatic page scaling", "Scale each page to fit paper",and "Only scale down large pages") nor reducing the scale in the Scale text box seem to be able to correct this problem.
The PDF document I was having problems with was created in Adobe Acrobat 8.1. Perhaps that has something to do with it.

• In iTunes copy out as an audio-CD .aiff
• Use this in Your movie project
2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser

large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provocing it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.

Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies—except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format—that I have noticed.
7. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
Before burning the DVD.
• Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
• Double click on the .img file
• Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
• In iDVD 08 - or - 09
• Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
• OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

At a first glance, their website is optimized for Windows only, it displays badly in Safari, perhaps it would be better in Firefox or other browser.

Problems previewing all my sites using Dreamweaver 8 both CF and html.

I have restored my hard drive (from a previous Ghost image)
and now encounter problems previewing all my sites using
Dreamweaver 8 both CF and html.
If I preview (using localhost:8500) I get the message "Unable
to connect, Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at
localhost:8500." IE has similar message.
If I preview (using 127.0.0.1 instead of localhost:8500) I
get the page but no images or CSS loads.

loads just fine - seems CF is working okay.
All the sites used for testing locally have been used for
some time (years) and work on my unrestored drive.

both of the programs but the problem remains.
Any help is much appreciated. I have spent the last two days
trying to get this to work and as many of you can identify with...I

So if your goal is to build layouts in HTML then this
will not produce the result you want
Skins in 10.1.3 are slightly different than in 11
(selectors may have changed their names). If you need
to specify the class property to make skins work then

Masters not applying to pages, discrepancy between design and preview mode

Hi there,
I am having a crazy time with Muse, please please help me... I see some of you have looked at the post, but no help yet. Please don't let me down. SOOO confused!
1) Master pages are not fully applying to the pages I assign, only parts of them.
Above you can see that the sub-pages and the "WORK" page all have the C-Master applied to them, but then you look at one of those pages and not all of the features are there.

Above is one of those sub-pages (coffee tables) with the C-master applied, yet the navigation menu is missing!?!?
2) Also the formatting is completely on the third image is completely wrong. There is extra space at the bottom of the page and yet I cannot move the page toggles to be the same as it is on the master. These formatting/margin/page size issues run throughout my pages and I cannot get them to all be the same! HELP!
3) The page looks different in the design mode than it does in the preview mode.
I am so confused and have gone through this from scratch once before thinking I did something wrong but I have had the same result.
Please help me!!!

Hi Parikshit,
The sticky footer sounded promising, but it didn't change anything. I still can't move those bottom toggles to be at the desired ruler mark.
As for the margins... Its my understanding that whatever you have in a master page will be applied to the pages you assign, but the content and spacing is different. There is no content that would push the page to extend further down, which I have seen done before. And because I cannot individually move the toggles I have no way of adjusting the spacing. I am going for a seamless look between pages, where the size and content of the page remains the same while the images in my portfolio change.
Even if I go to Page > Page Properies and try to enter the correct numbers, it still doesn't affect the page.
Does that clarify?
Also, I am running 7.1 on a Mac OS 10.9...does that have something to do with it?

Sync yahoo contact and got address all mixed up

I just sync my yahoo contact to my iPhone and saw that I have lots of friends named AAA. Also, some addresses and phone numbers are all mixed up. It feels like someone just grabbed the addresses and swapped them. Can anyone tell me what's going on? What can I do to avoid this happening again? Much thanks.

When the iphone is connected to the computer and itunes is open, click on edit at the top of itunes and choose preferences.
When the preferences window opens, click on the iphone or syncing tab.
Near the bottom there is a button to reset sync history.
Click ok on the preferences window.
Now go to the info tab in the iphone settings and scroll to the bottom.
There is a check box in the advanced section to replace all contact data on the iphone.
Check this box and click apply.
This will replace any contact data on the iphone with a new copy.

It felt as if maybe a virus was at work but I ran Sophos and found nothing.
I store images on my Drobo Raid system but when I work from my Macbook Pro I have no issues, just on the tower.

First of all, why did you say yes to Nero Back up before researching what it does with files already on the HDD? When I install Nero, the Back Up is the first thing I disable, it is a nagging pain, there are much better backup programs available. There are several file recovery programs out there to recover deleted files, that is, if that is what happened. Also, if you haven't overwritten the files, so you should be able to find them.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
