Masters degree related to sharepoint?

I am thinking of what masters degree I should get. I use SharePoint at work and am anxious to learn everything I can about it. I would like to find a degree that focuses on SharePoint or at least focuses on a field that would mix well with SharePoint. So
far I haven't had much luck. I am interested in certain features of SharePoint such as workflows, business intelligence, database services, etc... I want to find the right degree that will put me on the path to becoming a SharePoint master. I do not necessarily
want to develop apps for SharePoint, I just want to learn everything I can without getting too much into the coding aspect. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

Hello Sami Atieh.
You could start from a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) SharePoint certification: the required exam is
77-419.
Then you can think about the other available SharePoint certifications: you can find more informations about them
here.

  • Doubts related to Sharepoint

    Hi everyone,
I am seeking your help for the following problems in sharepoint 2013. Before I start my question I would briefly explain the task of mine for your better understanding and also I am just a beginner in sharepoint.
My task is to synchronize a database with sharepoint 2013. The database I am using here is an MS Access which consists of a set of tables that contains few values. My questions are listed as below:
    1. Is it possible to synchronize in live the Sharepoint 2013 and MS Access with the help of MS SQL as server
    2. I tried to create form using the InfoPath designer in SharePoint but also would like to know if there is any possibility to create a form which I can create without using InfoPath designer.
Form here will be used for the purpose of ordering things by the users. Once the order has been placed then the details in the form should be stored in the tables at respective columns.
    3. I have created an Access Database and I have synchronized the table in MS Access with the sharepoint 2013. Then, I had set just read only accessibility for few of my colleagues which was supposed to show the elements present in the table and disable editing
option but when this accessibility setting was preferred the colleagues were unable to read any of the elements present inside the sharepoint. I am too confused as I tried to google things but never found a proper reply.
    4. Also, is it possible to make a chart or any graphik like that of an Excel in sharepoint ?
I deeply appreciate any suggestion or help. Thank you all in advance.
    Regards,
    Nivas

    Hi Scott,
Thank you very much for your reply.
Yes, I am using the Enterprise Edition and as per your suggestion I have exported the table from Access 2013 to SharePoint 2013. Now I can see the elements in the access tables in sharepoint as well but now my task is to create a form based on this table.
The form will be used by our customer and he will be using the form to do some entry and these data should be saved in the tables and also at times some datas needed to be fetched from the tables.
I have done the same using just Access but now creating a form in SharePoint itself makes me feel too difficult. I tried using InfoPath but as per your suggestion, I have also tried an alternative with Access Apps for creating a form which also has limitations
and doesn't work as per our requirement. Now I would like to ask clarify few of my following doubts:
    1. Is there a method to create a form in sharepoint and synchronize with the datas in the tables?
    2. I tried to set some view options but it doesn't work for me. I have set for some users just read only option but this is not working. Any suggestions?
I shall keep my work updated and again a heartfelt thanks for your help !!
    Best regards,
    Nivas

  • HIGHEST DEGREE is populated with no source values in HR Analytics for PSFT

    Hi Gurus.
I'm implementing BI Apps 7.9.6.3 with Peoplesoft 9.0 as source. Reviewing some reports in HR Analytics I found that the dimension called "Employee Education and Languages.Employee Highest Education Degree Description" is being populated with values that not belong to the source system.
I found the following query in mplt_SIL_EmployeeDemographicAggregation_Load.LKP_CODES_HIGHEST_DEGREE:
    SELECT
    W_CODE_D.MASTER_CODE as MASTER_CODE,
    W_CODE_D.MASTER_VALUE as MASTER_VALUE,
    W_CODE_D.SOURCE_CODE as SOURCE_CODE,
    W_CODE_D.DATASOURCE_NUM_ID as DATASOURCE_NUM_ID
    FROM
    W_CODE_D
    WHERE
    W_CODE_D.CATEGORY = 'HIGHEST_DEGREE' AND
    W_CODE_D.LANGUAGE_CODE = 'E';
When this query is execute it returned values like these in the W_CODE_D.MASTER_VALUE field:
No Formal Education, Elementary Scholl Completed, Some High School, High School Graduate, Terminal Occupation Pgm DNC, Terminal Occupation Pgm Cmp,
Some College - Less than 1 Yr, One Year College, Two Years College, Associate Degree, Three Years College, Four Years College, Bachelor Degree, Post Bachelors
First Professional, Post-First Professional, Masters Degree, Post Masters, Sixth Year Degree, Post Sxth Year, Doctorate Degree, Post Doctorate, Not Indicated, Less Than HS Graduate
HS Graduate or Equivalent, Some College, Technical School, 2-Year College Degree, Bachelor's Level Degree, Some Graduate School, Master's Level Degree, Doctorate (Academic)
    Doctorate (Professional), Post-Doctorate
The customer said that those values are not form his Peoplesoft source system.
I tried to follow the mapping of W_CODE_D but it is related with a lot of task.
Somebody could tell me where those values came from? is there a harcode or csv file?
Can I configure those values? -- I do not find anything about that for PSFT in the Configuration guide--
    Thanks in Advance

Thanks for your quick response Ahsan , but the part of the guide that you mentioned is for eBS source. In my case the source is Peoplesoft and can't find a similar configuration.
    Thanks again.

  • Sharepoint 2013 Public Facing Website With Managed Metadata Navigation on Office365 E3 Trial Online

Warning: I am a complete novice in sharepoint
I have subscribed to office365 online trial Enterprise edition to learn sharepoint
I have created a Public facing Website
Through the site-collection setting -> navigation created a new metadata group named navigation and chose it for global and current menu(I switched on the publishing service)
Under the term Management I added two sub terms(for navigation group) with links to document and home.aspx
The team site immediately showed the global menu with only two options(home and document) as needed
Unfortunately the public facing site did not show any such options and instead showed a different menu(default one)
I tried to add the navigation snippet to the master page and it showed the same default menu.
The public site has no navigation option in Site setting either
QUESTION: How can I get managed navigation in public facing site? Is it possible or it is not allowed?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to use the Managed Metadata Navigation in Public Website.
Per my experience, we could not use the managed metadata navigation in public website, it is only available for the internal site collections.
    For more information:
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/154/t/166500.aspx
You can refer to the following article to know the public website and internal site collections on Office 365.
    http://blogs.sharepoint911.com/blogs/jennifer/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=76
As this is the forum for the SharePoint server, , I’m not sure whether it supported managed metadata navigation now.
I recommend you can post your question to the forum for SharePoint Online:
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/154.aspx.
More experts will assist you, then you will get more information relation to SharePoint Online.
Thank you for your understanding and support.

  • Create a custom Master Page in SharePoint Foundation 2013

    Hi,
I am new to SharePoint foundation.
I am trying to create a custom master page and save it as template, so that i can use it for all other sub sites. But i don't know where to start. Also i tries searching in Google, i got results for share point and not for share point foundation.
So, Please give me a step by step procedure or a link to step by step procedure on how to create a master page, save it as template and use it for a sub site.
    Thanks in advance,
    Gowtham R

Few points to note related to SharePoint Master page:
You don't need to create master page template. If you deploy your master page in site collection level you can reuse the same master page in subsites without copying again and again, rather just by referencing
You have not mentioned how you are going to deploy your master page. If you have any Visual Studio (VS) solution already, try to add your  master page in the VS solution and deploy your master page (and other branding components) as SharePoint WSP
    solution.
Deploying master page will not activate the master page, you need to use some kind of 'Web Level Feature' to activate your branding - the feature will basically set the master page property of SharePoint site to your custom master page.
Please follow the links below for steps by steps instructions (and you will find many just by googling 'sharepoint master page visual studio'):

  • Access 2010, Sharepoint 2010 issue with adding field to access db table

I needed to add an additional field to one of my access tables contained in the sharepoint list.
My application is a front end Access DB (run locally), and the backend is the 'data' database contained in the sharepoint lists.
I added the field to the database (called BOM).  When I open the access list (from sharepoint) , and also look at the database in access, the field is there and things are fine.
However, it does not show up in my linked front end.  I deleted the linked sharepoint tables from my front end, and then re-imported.  Now I see the BOM field I created, but it has replaced the 'ID' field, which was the primary key.  I had
added the 'BOM' field as the last field in the table.  Now it is the first field, having replaced the 'ID' field.
    What's going on here?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Is Office Home and Business 2013 fully compatible with Sharepoint Online (Office 365)?

My client recently upgraded 3 Windows 7 PCs (2-32 & 1-64-bit OS) from Office 2007 32-bit (which was actually working fine against Exchange/SharePoint Online) to Office Home and Business 2013 (32-bit)
Now, for all 3 PCs, while Office 2013 Word/Excel can open, check out/in, and save SharePoint Online files, there is ALWAYS a 2 minute delay in closing the file which is apparently waiting for the Local Security Authority call to return. This seems
to indicate an issue related to SharePoint security on the client side.
      Problem Event Name: AppHangXProcB1
      Application Name:
    WINWORD.EXE
      Application Version:
    15.0.4657.1000
      Waiting on Application Name:
    lsass.exe:lsasspirpc
This is the Local Security Authority Security Support Provider Interface Remote Procedure Call (LSA SSPI RPC)
My client has 66 licenses for SharePoint Online (Plan 2) and 73 Exchange Online (Plan 1) "stand alone" services. The same failure is happening on 3 Win 7 PCs. All of which I've carefully reviewed against the MS Office trouble shooting guides (start
    Windows OS w/out non-MS services, Word/Excel safe mode w/out add-ons, O365 readiness checks, Office repair, etc.). We have PCs running Win 7 (32 & 64-bit) w/Office 365 ProPlus & Office Professional Plus 2013 that work fine. it's JUST these 3 Win 7
PCs that were upgraded from Office 2007 to Office Home and Business 2013 that have the 2 min. SharePoint file close time.
Can you please confirm that Office Home and Business 2013 is compatible w/SharePoint Online
at least for Excel and Word?
The "slow close" problem can be demonstrated on multiple site collections/sub sites and w/Excel & Word docs in doc libs and lists
After many hours capturing information, following the MS Office trouble shooting guides, and repairing the Office install, I've had no luck in resolving this. While Word/Excel will eventually close SharePoint Online files after about
2 minutes, this is certainly unacceptable. Otherwise, locally stored files close normally and new files were created by the Office 2013 Excel/Word for this testing.
Any thoughts or guidance would be appreciated.

    Hi raygabe,
I couldn't find the document mentioned there is any compatibility between Office365 SharePoint online and Office Home and Business 2013 version, I would recommend that you check if the issue could be reproduced on other Win7 machines installed with Office
Home and Business 2013 installed directly instead of upgrading from Office2007, see if issue is related to Office application upgrade.
I also recommend that you post this issue on our dedicated Office365 SharePoint online forum and Office 2013 forum for a better assistance with more experts regarding this issue from the following links.

  • SharePoint 2013 - What are all requirement components for People Pickers to list, search, display, and assign users permission

    Hi All
the past few months, I have been working with permission issues related to SharePoint 2013 site permission settings using People Pickers to list, search, display users to assign or check permission.
Our environment include multiple domains and few forests. Our SharePoint farm is installed on one domain but the good thing is our AD structure are configured to have all other domains and forests with 2 ways trusts with this domain so domain
users are authenticated and can access SharePoint just fine. Also SharePoint use default claim authentication.
The problem is People Picker is not display all domains user accounts when site owners need to assign permission. So to resolve the problem, I had provisioned
SA - User profile service and Import AD domain user accounts (one way) into Sharepoint.
    I configured stsadm.exe -o setproperty -pn peoplepicker-searchadforests -pv
for all domains and forests (eventhough, as mentioned we do have 2 ways trust)
and sometime tried different query (user last name, domain\logonname, email address) if one is not showing.
With all that added, People Pickers seem to find and display user account for all domains now.
My question now is do UPS and all AD domains users need to be imported into SharePoint and STSadm configuration are required in order to have all domains user accounts to display in People Pickers so the site owners can
find them and assign permission when needed?
Please share your advices, comments as they are really valuable to me.
    Thanks
    Swanl

UPS and people pickers are virtually unrelated. The only connection between them is to do with caching and updating user names and emails if they change over time, or in other words not relevant to your situation.
To answer your question directly; Nope, you do not need to set up synchronisation connections to a domain to be able to pick up a person in a people picker. As you've seen you may need to run some STSADM commands to make sure they are checking the right
    places.

  • What are the possible approches for hosting a product(custom SP application) for multiple clients on a single SharePoint farm?

We have a product which is a custom application based on SharePoint Foundation 2010. Right now, for each of our client we create a dedicated server and host the application in the standalone deployment. Now, the requirement is to host multiple clients in a
    farm deployment.
Challenges are: 1. The product has same name for the wsp that is deployed on different client servers as of now. How to distinguish for different clients on same farm
Currently the product specific css and jquery is in 14 hive. These files will be of difefrent versions for different client. How to segregate that?
How many web applications is recommend to be created in a single SPF 2010 farm? What are the challenges?
There are a couple of DBs created in SQL for the application. What is the best way to separate those for the client?
Essentially its the same product but with different versions for each client that we want to deploy in a single farm. What is the best practice to tackle this?

For the most part, these are not SharePoint questions per se, but product-specific questions you'd better ask the vendor about. To get in some more detail:
    1. It totally depends on the scope of the solution. If its global, then you're out of luck and any changes you make affect all instances that use it. Better ask the vendor about it.
    2. Not that many, let's say < 10, assuming you're web applications have separate application pools. Check out  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262787(v=office.14).aspx#WebApplication for
    more info.
    3. This is very application specific and really should be answered by the vendor. Not related to SharePoint at all.
    4. Again, really depends on the product so better ask the vendor.
    Good luck!

  • Is it possible to restrict access to individual SharePoint Online sites (or site collections) to users only connecting when on the corporate network?

    Hi,
We have an Office 365 environment which is linked to our on premise ADFS environment. We have started to make some deployments of sites to our SharePoint Online environment. For the majority of sites this is great and the ability to access the sites
from anywhere is a real bonus. However, there are some sites and data that I would be much more comfortable in migrating to SharePoint Online if there were a way to make them only accessible via users/computers connected to the corporate network.
I have seen articles in how you can configure ADFS to allow all connections to the Office 365 tenant only from the network or not but what I am after is something which can be configured on a site by site basis (i.e. not the whole Office 365 environment
or SharePoint Online environment) to only allow access when connecting from the corporate network.
Any advice/help would be much appreciated?
    Many thanks

  • Power view error while opening excel fine in SharePoint 2010

I am getting an error while opening an excel file:
    "The following features
are not supported in the browser and might not display or might display only partially:
    • Comments, Shapes, or other
    objects
    Some features, such as external
data queries, display cached data which can only be refreshed in the client version of Excel."
    Is this issue browser
    related or SharePoint related?

    Hiya,
it depends what that file contains. There are a lot of new features for Excel, Excel services in the newer versions of SharePoint and SQL server. So it really depends on which of these features your using in your excel file.
What version is your SharePoint and SQL server(database services) and SQL Reporting?
There is a pretty specific article for that error message relating to PowerPivot.

  • Error when moving files between Sharepoint sites using 'content and structure' feature

    Hi,
I am using Sharepoint Online 2013 on a mac computer.
I am trying to move files between sharepoint sites/libraries but because the "open with explorer" link does not work on mac computers, I need to do so using the 'content and structure' feature.
When I select a file to move and then select the destination site/doc library, i get the following error:
An error was encountered performing this operation.
Operation to Move '120207_Australia Post_Invoice.pdf' to '/Ops/internal/admin/General Admin' failed
No items were moved. Please remove 120207_Australia Post_Invoice.pdf from the selection and retry operation
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Kate

    Hi Kate,
If you mean only one file "120207_Australia Post_Invoice.pdf" could not be moved, please compare this file to the other files moved successfully, check if there are some differences, like the content types, fields.
Also compare the source library and destination library, make sure they have the the same type of fields.
And you could have a try of moving this single file separately see if it could help, or as a workaround to download this file from source and upload to the destination library.
Since it is related to SharePoint Online 2013, we cannot see the ULS log for more information, I would suggest you post this issue in Office365 SharePoint online dedicated forum via the following link for a better assistance.
