Mat**bleep**a DVD problem

Hi,
I have a Toshiba equium psaaqe vista laptop it has a mat**bleep**su DVD drive. All of a sudden it stopped working, it wont read or write or recognize any CD DVD. I have researched the problem and the nearest I can get to a solution  can be found here.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-gb
Problem is I can't locate  default data value DVD/CD-rom and the class data value cdrom? As this is alphabetical it seems its not on my system. And as the CD drive isn't’t working I can't reformat any ideas solutions much appreciated.
Cheers

So no replies surprise surprise! I have trolled the internet and find lots of mat**bleep**a DVD problems, I also note many complaint's regarding Toshiba support. All I can say is I will never ever buy a Toshiba product again. My equium failed after I removed the tempro product support program, Toshiba sent me an email informing me my hard drive was over 50% full buy a new laptop, it then suggested a model costing over £1000. I concluded that the program was there to spy rather than help its customers. Toshiba got my money and ran off like a thief in the night!

My 300 n100 does not recognize my dvd/cdrw drive.  I have looked everywhere for the software to dl for this and cannot find it.  The one site I did find it on was only applicable to sony devices and would not download.  I also attempted to uninstall the driver and reboot to see if it would dl something newer and it would not.  I have looked all over lenovo's website and am not finding anything.  Is it always this hard to get a driver update?  Is there another driver update I can use besides the Mat**bleep**a one?  Does anyone have a website that I can get a dl that will work?
The website I went to was the www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/8137.

  • Need Driver for MAT**bleep**A DVD--RAM UJ-860 Drive

Searched everywhere for a Driver for the above drive.  Drive has  a exclamation mark shown in the Device Manager display.  Not sure how the driver got deleted or what have you. Please supply whateever information you might have.
    Thank you,

hardware or ultrabay problem is your affliction, the included ATAPI Win32 drivers are used to kick start CDROMS for yeasrs now and ever since Adaptec lost the ASPI wars in 2002 (too long of a topic to mention now)
Removing the ATAPi drives is a try but those are proteced with WfP so if they were corrupted, they would've been autmaotically repalced and you would've just gottnen a pop up to have a nice day.
elminaite the ulgra bay or that CD asyour issue, did that drive deteoirate or belly up overnight?
Can it still boot CD's from a cold start ? Can it boot a BARtPE or other type of CD based OS and seeminlgy run w/o hciciupting that one ?
If that ultrabay slot, and that CD works in other opoerating sytems...then you could have an insidiuous but curable problem with Windows Drive FilterLoad order...as haoky as that sounds it is the way Win32 allocates sub funcitons such as CD writitng, litescriinb and DVD burning to a drvies hardware.
IF you renecently isntalled any type of CD burner or speical CD audio software it could be the culprit, don't rule out Roxio Media Manager that RiM upjams into their Blackberry Desktop software for their phones, the horror stories of how people are forcded to reinsatll their entire copy of Windows because Roxio just fuugugueued up their CD drive after hotsyinght their address book of fat friends into their brand new skinny blackberry are commonplace at the annoyance web sites. Sadly, there are documnted instances where Roxio Media Manger jammed into the blackberry deskotpo can even kill of the reigerestred vresions ofr their preexisintg Roxio burner software !!
If that sounds like soemthing that you may have done, then download a copy of ImgBurn, aside from being more CD burner than one person can e3ver user, it also has a verigthtt sreagaetrieforward and clean mneu to reoder qnd rmeove thaose drive filters and could be a two minute tool to get your life back in order.

I'm at the verge of cracking, because I can't find help at any of our local Computer shops.
What must I do to fix this? I've tried every website, every hint, everything.
In the troubleshooter panel it tells me that there is an error with the drive, but it doesn't help me to fix it.

    PLEASE HELP ME!!

Open the tray and try to push with your finger the lens component (without touching the lens obviously) )towards center end and restart.

Go into Device Manager, locate CD/DVD menu item, deinstall, reboot and see if new hardware can locate device.  Ensure that the tray is secured and aligned with the bottom shell of the laptop.

  • Drivers needed for a mat**bleep**a dvd ram uj-842

I tried searching on Lenovo's site for this drive but I cannot find the drivers I need this this drive. Please let me know how I can get a link to these drivers.

Sorry, I couldn't resist laughing at the overzealous word filters.
However, it shouldn't need drivers at all - if you're using XP or Vista, it should be plug-and-play. Are you looking for a firmware update or CD/DVD recording software?

  • T61 DVD problem

I have a T61 which is just out of warranty.  It has a Mat**bleep**a DVD-RAM model UJ-862.  On the door is says DVD - CD-RW.  It plays pre-recorded CD's or DVD's without problems.  However, when I put in a blank disk to copy some files, the computer starts up a program by Sonic to format the disk.  When l click for it to start to format it crashes the computer.  I get an error message that looks like a DOS message which doesn't stay on the screen long enough for me to read it before it starts to re-boot.  Any suggestions as to how to prevent the crash?  Secondly, is there a way to capture the error message before the computer re-boots.  Thank you.

Thank you responding.  I did as you said and stopped the auto re-boot and could read the bluescreen error message.  It's rather lengthy but it said a problem was detected and shut down windows to prevent damage.  It then said BAD_POOL_HEADER
It went on to say to check for any new hardware that may have been installed improperly and to disable or remove any new software.  It also suggested to disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing and to start it in safe mode. It also had a section entitled Technical Information with the following:
    ***stop: 0x00000019 (0x00000020, 0x85B62510, 0x85B2528, 0x1A030001)
I have installed a new printer and applied Mircosoft updates and Norton antivirus updates. I do not know how to disable the BIOS.  I did send the error report to Microsoft and it came back with a screen that said "Problem caused by anitvirus software".  It said to update the antivirus software which has been done.  It then said to check to see if more than one antivirus software program is running.  I could not find a second program.
    I'm still at a loss.

  • LENOVO Y3000 4CQ Celeron's MAT**bleep**A CD-RW-CW-8124 (SM) not working, Unbale to boot the notebook

    Hi,
As per the subject line my laptops CD drive is not working and my system's operating system has just crashed. I had 1 year CCI warranty but it is over. Can anyone tell me the price in Indian or US curency for the new CD RW of the same specification
24x Mat**bleep**a DVD CD RW CW 8124 (SM)

the drive shouldn't be expensive, but is difficult to source aftermarket, if you go to the depot they will charge a quotation and labour fee, which is expensive.
So my advice to you is just to get an external dvd burner, if you need to a portable unit get the usb powered slim version, should be pretty cheap.

I grasp you are having an issue with the DVD burner.  You believe the firmware update was the issue.
You stated it was working fine at Christmas time.
Have you ran The HP Support Assistant to aid with HP updates and resolving issues?
Have you tried  Using Automated Troubleshooting (Windows 7) to assist you with this difficulty?
You may wish to try installing the original driver from recovery manager. Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7)
If it was working correctly before, you can try a restore back to a known good date.
Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7)
You may also consider trying a recovery back to factory.  Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7).
During this process you will receive an option to backup your personal files to prevent data loss.  If you have not already done one, I suggest you do one now.

  • Problem with MAT**bleep**A UJ-840D built in COMPAQ PRESARIO V2000

Hi. I am getting problems with the mat**bleep**a UJ-840D drive built in my laptop. I can watch DVD movies but cannot read, use or burn any CD discs.
I tried to upgrade the firmware version to solve the issue but the application does not work. The software is: FIRMWARE UPGRADE GCC4243N CDRW DRIVE (directly downloaded from HP web site). I select the file: "s5hp108.DLD" and when I hit the "FW Flashup" button, it brings error: "THIS PROGRAM CANNOT BE USED FOR THE SELECT DEVICE". (MAT**bleep**A UJ-840D - 1.02".
The currently drive installed is: Driver provider: Microsoft / Date: 01/07/2001 / Version:  5.1.2535.0
I think the CD/DVD writer drive must be ok because it works with DVD discs. I have tried with a lot of types and branch of CD discs, but not of them can be read.
If I can to be enabled to make an driver or firmware upgrade, or both, maybe it can be solved.
    Thanks.

  • T61p XP3 with Mat**bleep**a UJ-852 will not read CDs

Got From IBM Certified Used Equipment back in April, and just noticed I can't read CDs.  Read alot of problems with the UJ-852 and DVDs, but not the problem I'm (my wife) is having.  Machine Type 6457 AK7 with latest BIOS and Controller code.  I have the Extended Warranty, but haven't found the right number to call.  I can replace the hardware myself, and don't want to send Laptop back.
I sounds as if the Mat**bleep**a hardware has had problems for a while, and I should be able to get some help from Lenovo.
How come they put that drive in there in the first place, knowing it had problems... maybe I wouldn't notice... well, my wife noticed and her temperature is rising fast
    Any suggestions??
    Regards,
    Billl

  • Mat**bleep**a UJ-841S drive replacement

I need to replace my DVD drive-it's a Mat**bleep**a UJ-841S.  Can I replace it with another brand/model?  From reading here in the forums, this particular model seems to be problematic and I'd like to get something more reliable.
    Thanks

From what I've been able to find out, the problem is software, not hardware.  Not to say that replacing the drive won't fix it.  But, before you go and spend money, you might want to try the drive after booting up in SAFE mode. I did this and found that my "broken" drive magically started working - at least for reading CDs.   From what I've read, it might be a driver issue.  On a website called www.theeldergeek.com I found a suggestion for editing the registry that reportedly fixes some drive problems.  However, I'm going to try downloading and installing a more recent driver before I mess with the registry. Unfortunately, the Toshiba support pages for my model, the Satellite 105A-s4284 seem to be messed up, and i can't access them. I get a "loading" progress bar but the page never loads.  Hey Toshiba, are you paying attention???
