MAT**bleep**A SR-8175 won't recognize burned data cds

I did a fresh Windows 2000s install on an A21 P.  Everything is fine, except that the dvd/cd drive will not recognize or read burned data cds.  It reads store bought data cds, store bought music cds and burned music cds, but not burned data cds (I have not tried any dvds).
I tried to use the lenovo thinkpad optical drive update cd to see if it needed a firmware update, but of course it can't read the cd because it was burned.
There is a floppy optical drive checker also from lenovo.  That showed no drive.
Thanks in advance
TJM

Although, since when has a DVD that was rated for a higher speed NOT been able to be burned at a slower/lower speed?
Since always, if the data layer in the disc is sufficiently different from what the drive expects. In a high-speed drive, a disc with a high speed rating can be burned at any speed within the drive's range, often including very low speeds. But in a low-speed burner, high-speed media may not be usable at any speed, because its data layer is very different from what the drive was designed to work with. You may not be able to see the difference easily, but the drive does, and rejects the disc thinking it's defective.
Back before DVD drives and media were common, this problem arose all the time with people trying to read early CD-RW discs in the CD-ROM drives of older Macs: it couldn't be done. When the speed ratings of CD-R media skyrocketed to 48x and 52x, some CD-ROM drives couldn't read the high-speed CD-R media either, though that problem was less common.
When optical drives generally cost upwards of $200-250, it was hard to tell anyone that the simplest solution was to replace the outmoded drive with something newer and more capable. Now that you can buy a slot-loading high-speed dual-layer DVD burner with all the bells and whistles for under $100, it behooves anyone who can use those capabilities to go ahead and get one. As for me, I've never tried to burn a DVD in my UJ-815, and now that slow media are almost impossible to find, I probably never will. If I decide to burn more than one or two DVDs sometime, I'll replace my drive. You might save yourself some hassle by doing the same.
As for -RW media, I never bother with it: it's way overpriced and too often has problems. I've always had good luck with the cheapest CD-R discs on sale at Costco, Staples, etc. for about 15 cents apiece in large packages. I occasionally burn an archival disc using high-priced 200-year Delkin or MAM-A media, but for the most part, cheapies serve me fine.

  • Using the Mathcad Interface, my worksheet won't recognize the data as numbers

While using the Mathcad Interface Library, I've written a 2D Matrix, but although the Mathcad Worksheet does display the data, it won't recognize it as numbers, hence I can't do any operations with it. However, if I declare the very same matrix in mathcad, my worksheet works fine. What can I do?

Hi ali84, did you tried using the examples that are in the library? Do you get the same error? Could you post your code to see how you are sending the data?
If manually defining the worksheet as numbers will make your program work, you could use directly the VIs for Active X and change the properties directly

  • Black MacBook won't recognize burned DVD+R

I'm trying to use some DVD+Rs containing video files that a friend of mine burned with my MacBook, but when I pop them in and hear the computer whirring and working as it should, nothing shows up on the desktop. When I press the eject key it ejects normally, so apparently it seems to recognize there's a DVD, but won't show me the contents. I know I have viewing CDs and DVDs on my desktop enabled, and I have used similar DVD+Rs with no such problem. Any help please? Thank you very much in advance!

    Thanks for the reply Boece.
    To answer your questions:
I have tried these recorded DVD+Rs in older PC laptops that have had little trouble reading them. I have also tried them in other Macbooks, which have responded similarly to my macbook when inserted.
I have played commercial DVDs, CDs, and recorded CDs in the drive and have had plenty of success. I have also played recorded DVDs that were made on computers with ease. The only type of media I seem to have problems with are DVDs not recorded on computers.
I do not have my own recorder, rather I had a friend record the DVDs for me so I don't know about other burn speeds (although I'm quite sure this isn't the problem as the DVDs do read on other computers)
When the DVDs don't read they simply eject. I never get an icon on the desktop or any error messages. The drive spins up and back down twice, then ejects the recorded DVD+R.

  • My Blu-ray drive will play Blu-rays but won't recognize DVDs or CDs

Hi I have a Pavilion dv6 recently had a problem and I restored it back to factory settings. Thing is before I did this I tried making recovery discs. It made it through the first, then half way through the second, but said the second one was full then when I tried to put another disc in it wouldn't recognize it. I took the comp back to factory settings, but the problem still persists. My Blu-ray play is the HP BD-ROM BDCTD03HA . I am running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I can provide any other info if needed.

I forgot to mention I have tried just about everything and so far nothing has worked. Please I just want my dvd player back!

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

Are you syncing to a folder? I couldn't get places to show up when I did that and all of my photos are geotagged.
I imported all of them into iPhoto 9 and verified that the 'places' were correct and then synced iPhoto rather than folders and I now have places on my iPad.

  • Pioneer DVR-104 won't recognize/burn/eject disc. I am STUCK. Help?

    Hello.
I bought an iMac G4 800mhz flat panel model with DVR-104 superdrive recently.
It's was working perfectly until I tired to burn my 1st disc using Toast 7 (DVD-R). That's when things started messing up. I stuck the disc in and after "thinking" about it for a minute ejected it without any message -- it just spit it out.
I repaired file permissions, restarted, tried another disc and now I can't get the disc out. When i push the eject button i get the eject icon on the screen but the disc doesn't come out.
-Under Disc Burning in System Profiler it now says "No burning device was found. If you are using an external device please make sure that it is connected and powered properly".
-Toast 7 says "no recorder found".
-When I restart the computer I get the message "Disk Insertion - the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer". Until I tried to burn a disc the drive had been working perfectly and a lot.
So to recap: There's a disc stuck in the Superdrive that my iMac doesn't think is there. Can I force eject?
    Any ideas??
    Thanks!!
Oh BTW here's what is says under System Profiler about the Pioneer DVR-104:
    Model: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104
    Revision: A216
    Serial Number: BCDL160039WL

mrtotes thanks a lot for the suggestions! I didn't have to try the Target mode but I'll remember that one thanks.
With blank 8X DVD-R still stuck in iMac I ran Onyx (with everything in the Automation area checked√) and went to bed.
This morning I forgot it was in sleep mode & not turned off so I hit the power button to turn it on. It woke up, but the screen was frozen. I turned it off using the power button.
When I turned it back on the DVD in the drive started making that "clunk clunk" noise again trying to load (it had not been making any noises at all while stuck) while the computer was booting up. I held down the eject key & the mouse until it finished booting up. THE DISC CAME OUT. Whew!
I don't know if it was Onyx or me pushing the power button when it was asleep or that mouse/eject maneuver but it worked.
I guess I'll need to stick to 4X DVD-R for now if I can find any. Does anyone know where to get those now? I'm in Sacramento, CA.
Also, I have some Memorex 52X blank CDs. Do I dare try one of those or what speed should I use?

  • Problem with MAT**bleep**A UJ-840D built in COMPAQ PRESARIO V2000

Hi. I am getting problems with the mat**bleep**a UJ-840D drive built in my laptop. I can watch DVD movies but cannot read, use or burn any CD discs.
I tried to upgrade the firmware version to solve the issue but the application does not work. The software is: FIRMWARE UPGRADE GCC4243N CDRW DRIVE (directly downloaded from HP web site). I select the file: "s5hp108.DLD" and when I hit the "FW Flashup" button, it brings error: "THIS PROGRAM CANNOT BE USED FOR THE SELECT DEVICE". (MAT**bleep**A UJ-840D - 1.02".
The currently drive installed is: Driver provider: Microsoft / Date: 01/07/2001 / Version:  5.1.2535.0
I think the CD/DVD writer drive must be ok because it works with DVD discs. I have tried with a lot of types and branch of CD discs, but not of them can be read.
If I can to be enabled to make an driver or firmware upgrade, or both, maybe it can be solved.
    Thanks.

  • T61p XP3 with Mat**bleep**a UJ-852 will not read CDs

Got From IBM Certified Used Equipment back in April, and just noticed I can't read CDs.  Read alot of problems with the UJ-852 and DVDs, but not the problem I'm (my wife) is having.  Machine Type 6457 AK7 with latest BIOS and Controller code.  I have the Extended Warranty, but haven't found the right number to call.  I can replace the hardware myself, and don't want to send Laptop back.
I sounds as if the Mat**bleep**a hardware has had problems for a while, and I should be able to get some help from Lenovo.
How come they put that drive in there in the first place, knowing it had problems... maybe I wouldn't notice... well, my wife noticed and her temperature is rising fast
    Any suggestions??

  • Mat**bleep**a DVD problem

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba equium psaaqe vista laptop it has a mat**bleep**su DVD drive. All of a sudden it stopped working, it wont read or write or recognize any CD DVD. I have researched the problem and the nearest I can get to a solution  can be found here.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-gb
Problem is I can't locate  default data value DVD/CD-rom and the class data value cdrom? As this is alphabetical it seems its not on my system. And as the CD drive isn't’t working I can't reformat any ideas solutions much appreciated.
    Cheers

So no replies surprise surprise! I have trolled the internet and find lots of mat**bleep**a DVD problems, I also note many complaint's regarding Toshiba support. All I can say is I will never ever buy a Toshiba product again. My equium failed after I removed the tempro product support program, Toshiba sent me an email informing me my hard drive was over 50% full buy a new laptop, it then suggested a model costing over £1000. I concluded that the program was there to spy rather than help its customers. Toshiba got my money and ran off like a thief in the night!

  • Mat**bleep**a UJ-841S drive replacement

I need to replace my DVD drive-it's a Mat**bleep**a UJ-841S.  Can I replace it with another brand/model?  From reading here in the forums, this particular model seems to be problematic and I'd like to get something more reliable.
    Thanks

From what I've been able to find out, the problem is software, not hardware.  Not to say that replacing the drive won't fix it.  But, before you go and spend money, you might want to try the drive after booting up in SAFE mode. I did this and found that my "broken" drive magically started working - at least for reading CDs.   From what I've read, it might be a driver issue.  On a website called www.theeldergeek.com I found a suggestion for editing the registry that reportedly fixes some drive problems.  However, I'm going to try downloading and installing a more recent driver before I mess with the registry. Unfortunately, the Toshiba support pages for my model, the Satellite 105A-s4284 seem to be messed up, and i can't access them. I get a "loading" progress bar but the page never loads.  Hey Toshiba, are you paying attention???

My 300 n100 does not recognize my dvd/cdrw drive.  I have looked everywhere for the software to dl for this and cannot find it.  The one site I did find it on was only applicable to sony devices and would not download.  I also attempted to uninstall the driver and reboot to see if it would dl something newer and it would not.  I have looked all over lenovo's website and am not finding anything.  Is it always this hard to get a driver update?  Is there another driver update I can use besides the Mat**bleep**a one?  Does anyone have a website that I can get a dl that will work?
The website I went to was the www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/8137.

  • ITunes won't recognize iPod Nano (1GB, 1st generation)

I have been having problems Sync'ing my iPod nano with iTunes, however, the more I read help articles and follow the steps, the worse the problem gets. (I'm on a PC using Windows XP)
I've gotten to the point where I updated my iPod software in Disk mode (up until then it was being recognized only in Disk mode), but when iTunes failed to recognize it when not in Disk mode I preceded to restore my iPod to factory settings, as instructed in the help articles.
Now, up until then, I still had music in my iPod, and I was being able to charge it and listen to my music even though I couldn't sync the iPod anymore. After restoring, I not only lost my music (which I was aware of), but it STILL did not fix my problem. So I started to get annoyed.
I then noticed that my iPod was being recognized by My Computer, just not by iTunes, so I began to perform the steps indicated in the following article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
I restarted my iPod service - no luck
I removed iTunes - no luck
I emptied my Temp directory and restarted...
That's when iTunes stopped recognizing my iPod altogether, not even in Disk mode. Not only that, but it seems to have affected the iPod itself, since it won't turn off or exit Disk mode anymore. So now I'm scared of going though with any more steps on whichever "help" articles and making the problem even worse than it already is (if that's possible).
The only other information I can provide is that windows is still recognizing my iPod, no problem, and when I connect my iPod, iTunes actually launches... but DOESN'T recognize a thing. So I ran a diagnostics using iTunes and here's what I got (iPod diagnostics):

    Connected Device Information:
IPOD (H:\), iPod nano running firmware version 1.3.1
All green lights, and as you can see, according to iTunes, NO PROBLEM! Except that it won't recognize the iPod that the disgnistics says exists and reads... ?!?!?!
If anyone could shed some light on my situation, i would be VERY greatful!

My IPod Nano will charge when connected to my computer but it won't come up on My Computer or iTunes. So I can't update the songs. I've already tried reseting the iPod. Does anybody know what I can do to fix it.
