Mat**bleep**a UJ-852 issues

I've seen a number of topics of people having disc read issues with the Mat**bleep**a UJ-852 drive and I'm curious if there was ever a firmware update or resolution for the issue.
My drive intermittently reads some cd's and not others, with no rhyme or reason.  My warranty is expired so I'm probably screwed but just looking to the community for any help.
Thanks
Homer

The Panasonic drive are notorious for these problems, this is not a firmware problem.

  • T61p XP3 with Mat**bleep**a UJ-852 will not read CDs

Got From IBM Certified Used Equipment back in April, and just noticed I can't read CDs.  Read alot of problems with the UJ-852 and DVDs, but not the problem I'm (my wife) is having.  Machine Type 6457 AK7 with latest BIOS and Controller code.  I have the Extended Warranty, but haven't found the right number to call.  I can replace the hardware myself, and don't want to send Laptop back.
I sounds as if the Mat**bleep**a hardware has had problems for a while, and I should be able to get some help from Lenovo.
How come they put that drive in there in the first place, knowing it had problems... maybe I wouldn't notice... well, my wife noticed and her temperature is rising fast
    Any suggestions??

I  purchased a LENOVO T400 on 12/01/08. I downgraded it too XP -SP3. Everything works fine, but I found there is a serial Mat**bleep**a DVA-RAM UJ862A  slim installed. This Drive doesn't work fine for me. It is a known issues with the restriction on the regional code. This can you found, only of a couple of two junk DVD Drive worldwide.
The only Drive what I found will be fit on a T400  is a slim line curved Hitachi-LG Data Storage Inc. GSA-4083.
Does anybody know exactly, which DVD Drive will work, on a T400.

  • Problem with MAT**bleep**A UJ-840D built in COMPAQ PRESARIO V2000

Hi. I am getting problems with the mat**bleep**a UJ-840D drive built in my laptop. I can watch DVD movies but cannot read, use or burn any CD discs.
I tried to upgrade the firmware version to solve the issue but the application does not work. The software is: FIRMWARE UPGRADE GCC4243N CDRW DRIVE (directly downloaded from HP web site). I select the file: "s5hp108.DLD" and when I hit the "FW Flashup" button, it brings error: "THIS PROGRAM CANNOT BE USED FOR THE SELECT DEVICE". (MAT**bleep**A UJ-840D - 1.02".
The currently drive installed is: Driver provider: Microsoft / Date: 01/07/2001 / Version:  5.1.2535.0
I think the CD/DVD writer drive must be ok because it works with DVD discs. I have tried with a lot of types and branch of CD discs, but not of them can be read.
If I can to be enabled to make an driver or firmware upgrade, or both, maybe it can be solved.
    Thanks.

  • Mat**bleep**a UJ-841S drive replacement

I need to replace my DVD drive-it's a Mat**bleep**a UJ-841S.  Can I replace it with another brand/model?  From reading here in the forums, this particular model seems to be problematic and I'd like to get something more reliable.
    Thanks

From what I've been able to find out, the problem is software, not hardware.  Not to say that replacing the drive won't fix it.  But, before you go and spend money, you might want to try the drive after booting up in SAFE mode. I did this and found that my "broken" drive magically started working - at least for reading CDs.   From what I've read, it might be a driver issue.  On a website called www.theeldergeek.com I found a suggestion for editing the registry that reportedly fixes some drive problems.  However, I'm going to try downloading and installing a more recent driver before I mess with the registry. Unfortunately, the Toshiba support pages for my model, the Satellite 105A-s4284 seem to be messed up, and i can't access them. I get a "loading" progress bar but the page never loads.  Hey Toshiba, are you paying attention???

I have a Mat**bleep**a UJ -841S CD\DVD RW drive. I am having trouble burniung CDs. Reads CDs fine. Burns and reads DVDs fine. But, I cannot get thru a CD burn without errors.
So, I am troubleshooting and deisre to check and make sure Firmware and drivers are up to date for the drive.

Can anyone tell me where I can get these freebie? Seems I should be able to get them from manufacturer or tsoshiba but ---- been there and no go.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The firmware on the drive should be fine.  Have you tried burning a CD at 1X speed without anythign running in the abckground?  Have you tried media from a different manufacturer?  Have you tried using Windows itself to burn the disc ratehr then the software you are using?
    What errors are you getting?

  • LENOVO Y3000 4CQ Celeron's MAT**bleep**A CD-RW-CW-8124 (SM) not working, Unbale to boot the notebook

    Hi,
As per the subject line my laptops CD drive is not working and my system's operating system has just crashed. I had 1 year CCI warranty but it is over. Can anyone tell me the price in Indian or US curency for the new CD RW of the same specification
24x Mat**bleep**a DVD CD RW CW 8124 (SM)
    Vivek

the drive shouldn't be expensive, but is difficult to source aftermarket, if you go to the depot they will charge a quotation and labour fee, which is expensive.
So my advice to you is just to get an external dvd burner, if you need to a portable unit get the usb powered slim version, should be pretty cheap.

So no replies surprise surprise! I have trolled the internet and find lots of mat**bleep**a DVD problems, I also note many complaint's regarding Toshiba support. All I can say is I will never ever buy a Toshiba product again. My equium failed after I removed the tempro product support program, Toshiba sent me an email informing me my hard drive was over 50% full buy a new laptop, it then suggested a model costing over £1000. I concluded that the program was there to spy rather than help its customers. Toshiba got my money and ran off like a thief in the night!

  • Mat**bleep**a DVD-Ram uj-850 ata device

My 300 n100 does not recognize my dvd/cdrw drive.  I have looked everywhere for the software to dl for this and cannot find it.  The one site I did find it on was only applicable to sony devices and would not download.  I also attempted to uninstall the driver and reboot to see if it would dl something newer and it would not.  I have looked all over lenovo's website and am not finding anything.  Is it always this hard to get a driver update?  Is there another driver update I can use besides the Mat**bleep**a one?  Does anyone have a website that I can get a dl that will work?
The website I went to was the www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/8137.
    Thank you

  • Windows 7 has **bleep** terrible internet connectivy issues due to linksys router!!!

Well, its a really long story that lasts for a total of 6 months, and I solved some of the problems, but more just kept coming.I will tell you the problems I am having now, to shorten up the story. So In late Nov of 2009 I upgraded my toshiba windows vista 64-bit computer to windows 7 64-bit, with 4GB ram. So anyway, this computer is pretty good, fast, and I keep it in good care. However, internet connectivy issues are the only bad thing. From my 6 month experience with these ongoing internet issues, I have concluded that that problems now are: the computer cannot connect to the home network because authication has failed, but I KNOW for a fact the I typed in the secuity password to my network correctly and got all the secuity settings and network name correct!!! Secondly, I am having the ip conflict with another pc on my network, but I dont think this is the cause for preventing me from loading any pages on the internet, since I changed the ip address manuelly of the other pc to something else.
So right now I really only have that one problem. I figure this is due to miscommucations with my pc and the router. The weird thing is sometimes I am able to do everything on the internet with no problems, but only sometimes. This is what happens, I cannot connect to my network or get disconnected, my internet is very very slow, the pages will load but be blank.
I am using wireless, and roadrunner, so yes broadband.
I dont know the soluation really, but I do know that all the other computer and devices on my network(2 wireless pcs, one wired into the router, 2 ipods, a wii, xbox360) all connect great, but my computer is the only one that runs windows 7 and was made by toshiba.
Other information I need to tell you???
    Please help me!
You will be making me very happy, and destroying my stress.
Thanks, and best regurads to you all struggling with issues or helping resolve them.
    Solved!

Thanks for the help guys, but I finally was able to buy a new router. All I know is linksys routers dont work so well, espeically bad with windows 7-
this is what my experiences would tell me. Anyway the new router works pretty good so far. I haven't been disconnected from the internet yet, so
    that's a good sign.
    Thanks, again.
p.s  So I didn't  try any of your guys methods of solving the issue, but thanks.
