Match color source selection shows up as black

I'm using CS6 / 64-bit.  When I try to use the Match Color command (following the very simple concepts shown in tutorials) my source selection color always shows up as black regardless of the actual color I'm seeing.  My source is a single-layer simple jpeg (RGB/8) with a rectangle of solid color selected.  My destination is a blank white canvas (RGB/8; "Select All").  The preview shows all black and if I say OK to the match the destination becomes all black.

Noel,
I appreciate the thought, and I realize most tutorial examples show something like matching the color of a flower or a piece of clothing, etc., but the concept seems to be simple: take the color from one selection and make another selection be the same color -- never mind size, shape or relevance of one selection to the other.  I don't understand why the selection on my source is showing up as black when the selection is definitely not black.

  • IWeb 09 - Color picker not selecting matching color

    I have tried to use the color picker to match colors in iWeb 09 and it seems impossible to match the colors. I go to the color picker and use the magnifying glass to try to match an existing color and the selected color is not exactly the same as the color I am trying to match. Very frustrating. I have searched and other folks have been reporting similar problems.

    When are you seeing the mismatch? In iWeb after applying the magnifying glass or after publishing? What are you trying to match? Backgounds? Objects? Text?
    It's been noted that after publication some colors have been changed in the css file from the rgb alpha code it was originally set to to the # number code (or vise versa - I don't remember which) which changes the published color slightly. Tried to find the topic just now but couldn't.
    Definitely a bug to be reported to http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html.
    If you're trying to match a page background to a browser background and you're not using a theme that uses images for it's background you can set the page background to none and let the browser background color work for both areas.

  • CS4 - Source window showing red, black & speed up footage

    Hi people
    We are editing some HDV footage using PP CS4.
    Has all been going well ... but ...
    We have captured footage using HDVSplit (to eliminate issue of video and sound getting out of sync) and the footage plays fine thereafter via windows media player and VLC ..
    Then using PPs Media Browser to import into the project several things seem to be happening to some clips ..
    We are experiencing PARTs of an imported segment of footage are coming up red or black in the source window... and in some instances the source timeline shows the footage compressed (speed up) and with the rest of the segment on the timeline showing diagonal lines.  The speed up footage (100 frames per second rather than 25) can be corrected by adjusting the speed, just unsure why it is happening.  We haven't found a way to correct the patches of footage which are coming up red or black in the source window.
    Welcome any suggestions ..
    Kind regards
    Jen

    you mean most of the time everything works OK...but sometimes you have bad things happening?
    I think you have to supply more info re: what you are capturing and what computer you're using ( specs ) and so on.
    I didnt feel like I had enough info to make any suggestions but hope you get things fixed up OK

    haggyabeken,
    I am afraid you have come across the Live Rectangle bug which is limited to the MAC versions starting with 10.7 and 10.8, but not 10.9 (Mavericks), see this thread linked to below.
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1595973
    So a switch to Mavericks with a reinstallation might be the way to solve it here and now.
    To get round it in each case, it is possible to Expand the Live Rectangles to get normal old fashioned rectangles, or to Pathfinder>Unite, or to use the Scale Tool.
    A more permanent way round that is to create normal old fashioned rectangles, after running the free script created by Pawel, see this thread with download link:

  • View two program monitors to match colors (CS6)

    Hi,
    I'm trying to color match two shots and I'd like to be able to view them side by side while I adjust the colors in one of the shots. It seems like a good way to do this would be to view two program monitors side by side - but is that possible? I can't see that option anywhere.
    Using the source monitor for comparison doesn't make sense to me as I've already color corrected the reference shot and the source monitor shows the original footage (ie. the wrong colors). I could of course try to match the shots based on the source footage of the reference shot and then apply a second color correction but that seems a bit unnecessary to me.
    Or - I remember that in FCP7 there is  an option to use split screen while color correcting two view two shots simulatenously side by side in the same screen/monitor. Is there anything like that hidden in PPro?
    I'm also happy for any other suggestions on how to do this.
    Thanks!

    Open  the graded clip  in a Reference Monitor.
    Un gang Ref Monitor from the Program Monitor and then start work on the other clip.
    eg.
    or..maybe
    Quick and dirty way...
    Frame Grab graded clip. Open it in the Source Monitor as reference. Flick back and forth.
    BTW: CC Speedgrade has excellent multi monitor support  (2 or 3 playheads) for this  as well as a fairly good match clip facility (FWIW)

  • Histograms in Match Color

    Hello,
    As we all know, the Match Color utility was a great addition to the Photoshop series. But it does lack an important feature. When I have two images, [1] and [2], and I choose one image [1] to match color to, it copies colors that I see to the [2] image, but it does not preserve the brighness of the [2] image. In very most cases I want to preserve the brightness, so:
    the Match Color screen should look like this: on the right half, the [1] image (or layer) preview, and under it, the histogram. On the left half, the [2] image (or layer) preview and its histogram. There should be the selection tool at the [1] source image screen half. Corresponding to what parts of the source image I choose, the histogram value should change, until the histogram of the selection will look like the histogram of the [2] image. Then I press the OK button and for the final image I get one with colors matched and brightness preserved.
    Very useful for ones using the Match Color option intensely.
    Thank you.

    Folio Preview is only for Digital Publishing Suite output and isn't the best way to preview. The most accurate color can be see if you choose View > Overprint Preview. You DON'T want to disable color management, in fact, I don't think you really can.

  • Matching Color

    Hi,
    Is it possible to match the color of a sepia clip in fcpx if i don't know where the sepia filter for that clip came from as in AE, Motion, etc.? that would be on a 422 mov clip. I ask because i tried using the Match Color option and although it changed the color it wasn't even close to the sepia color i was trying to match. Thanks

    There should be a Sepia filter in Effects > Basics.
    I have one that offers a little more control.
    1) it desaturates the media (so the Amount value goes from B&W to sepiatoned)
    2) it adds Brightness and Contrast controls
    If you decide to use it, don't save it in the same category as the original!
    You can download it here: http://fcpxtemplates.com/fxexchange/Sepia.zip
    (if you need help installing: http://fcpxtemplates.com/install4fcpx/)
    You can build your own color toner by
    1) using the color corrector to remove all saturation (make the media grayscale)
    2) overlaying a generator > Solids > Custom and picking a red—red-orange color (or any other color you're "toning")
    3) going into the video inspector > Compositing and change the blend mode to (I would use) Color Burn
    4) make adjustments to Compositing Opacity and Color Correction > Exposure on the original media clip and probably go back and adjust the "lightness" of the color of the Custom solid.
    The Sepia filters are a fixed "grade" of color.
    If you need to compare clips side by side, you can select the original in the Event browser and type Command-Control-3 (or go to the Window menu > Show Event Viewer.)

  • Color range selection preview

    I'm at a new job with a new iMac (Mavericks 10.9.4) and CC. I like using the "color range" selection tool in Photoshop, but I cannot figure out how to make the selected area just show as a marquee area - I don't want it to show as White Matte/Black Matte, etc. - JUST as a marqueed area, with my 4c image still visible. Ideas?

    I just have to ask - why?
    Once you commit by pressing OK you get your marquee. But the purpose of the selection preview is to show you precisely what will be selected, and a marquee doesn't do that. It would defeat the whole purpose of a preview. This would be easier to answer if we knew what you're trying to do.

    Hi Fateh
    Looks like the same issue we had in your previous Fancy Box, with a jQuery plugin being unable to automatically determine the type of content coming from an APEX BLOB source.
    Try setting the content type explicitly using the <tt>photo</tt> setting:
    <script>
      function color() {
        $('a.gallery').colorbox({ opacity:0.5, rel:'group1', photo:true });
    </script>

  • Can "Match Color" only work successfully when there are just subtle differences?

    Because I foolishly left the white balance on auto, these indoor clips of a dancer show wide variations in colour.
    The creamy ones are more natural and pleasing than those with a purple tint.
    Using the Match Color feature resulted in a change in the colour of the purple clips but in no way did they resemble the creamy ones, so eventually I left them all alone as they showed no improvement.
    Was this lack of success due to the comparatively strong colours in the room or was I using the Match Color adjustment incorrectly?

    How Match-Color matches is still a riddle for me!
    Using cheap cams simultanousely (some are so cheap, they don't offer any white balancing), I often try MatchColor (the green of the green my boys play on should look same in all angles… ) but most of the times, it fails; contrasts go wild, luminance changes, colors get worse then before.
    Using a WhiteBalance plugin from FCPeffects (special price: 20$) helped me a lot, let's try it on your example:
    row #1: Initilal situation: rightt shot obviously too much red
    row #2: exposure seems to be identcally, you could increase contrasts (lower blacks, rise lights) … cosmetics ...
    row #3: FCPX' suggestion to 'balance': scope tells, colors are not balanced (or, how should I interpret that?) And it adds saturation!
    row #4: applied the plug-in (I used the door as 'reference')... better! Although, the charming dancer has, imho, still too much green in her skin-tone (??)
    Mr Jordan gives here some tipps, how to adjust WB using skin-tones:
    https://youtu.be/jX45Yi1spY4?t=24m25s
    I added a jump-mark to minute 24, the half hour before is interesting too, but I know, not everybody likes the 'speed' of Larry...
    I learned from this video, that caucasian women have a grey-scale value!! … what a pick-up line: "hey, I think, our grey-scale values match!" ... note2myslef: "stop being 'funny' in foreign languages!!"
    to summarize:
    WB first (best practice: in camera, but optional in FCPX too), and then doctoring colors ...
    btw, FCPX lil' brother, iMovie, offers a built-in WhiteBalance-Button since a few versions. Automatisms are not 'pro', I know, but luckily, at Apple, they don't care - hopefully, we see this feature soon in FCPX too (oops, bad news for plug-in makers!!)
    … but, by what criteria Match Color matches colors? ... no idea!

  • Photoshop uses JavaScript to load open documents into the Match Color command

    Hello,
    I am a production artist and I make use of the Match Color command quite a lot in my work. I often have 6-10 Photoshop documents open and one of them is designated as my master document. With this document active, I launch the Match Color command. Inside the Match Color dialogue, I load one of the other open documents into the Source drop-down menu under Image Statistics. I click Ok, and save the master document under a new name. I have to repeat this for all other open documents. Needless to say, it gets tedious.
    I started to write a script to automate this, but I cannot find the syntax for the Match Color. I have the Adobe Photoshop Cs6 Javascript Scripting Reference but have been unable to locate it in this PDF. I tried looking online, but no luck. Does anyone know what syntax to use as well as associated properties / methods?
    Thanks for any assistance.

    What we do is we make seamless images from product photos supplied by retailers in the flooring industry (carpet, tiles, etc). The seamless image gets loaded into a virtual room scene powered by Adobe Scene7. Scene7 takes the seamless image and duplicates it horizontally and vertically, in 3D perspective, so the final rendering looks like one continuous product image. Check this link to see an example:  http://sitesetup.creatingyourspace.com/wlhhbw4/designcenter/vrddesign.aspx?room=2854 The thumbnails on the left side are seamless images. click on one and it will load into the virtual room.
    When I make seamless I may encounter 20-50 images of the same product, but different colors. Rather than spend 10-15 minutes per seamless, I make one and then let Match Color do the rest. Match Color is a great tool for this application. If destructive editing were an issue, the layer could simply made into a smart object, but we're not concerned about that.
    I did try the javaScript listener. Below is the code it generated. I'm new to JS so I don't understand all of the syntax.
    // =======================================================
    var idmatchColor = stringIDToTypeID( "matchColor" );
        var desc7 = new ActionDescriptor();
        var idLght = charIDToTypeID( "Lght" );
        desc7.putInteger( idLght, 100 );
        var idClrR = charIDToTypeID( "ClrR" );
        desc7.putInteger( idClrR, 100 );
        var idFade = charIDToTypeID( "Fade" );
        desc7.putInteger( idFade, 0 );
        var idfsel = charIDToTypeID( "fsel" );
        desc7.putBoolean( idfsel, true );
        var idSrce = charIDToTypeID( "Srce" );
            var ref5 = new ActionReference();
            var idLyr = charIDToTypeID( "Lyr " );
            var idBckg = charIDToTypeID( "Bckg" );
            ref5.putProperty( idLyr, idBckg );
            var idDcmn = charIDToTypeID( "Dcmn" );
            ref5.putName( idDcmn, "4167_13828.jpg" );
        desc7.putReference( idSrce, ref5 );
    executeAction( idmatchColor, desc7, DialogModes.NO );

    I have had several conflicts with Adobe Acrobat 9 and my HP C5180 printer/scanner/copier.   I have downloaded new drivers from HP.   When I try to create  a PDF from the scanner,  I get this conflict warning:   "Color Format Selected Not supported".    So, I change the color format selections in both HP and Acrobat and I still get the warning.    I must admit I haven't tried the black and white color format.  But I want to scan simple color images.  No luck.
    Has anyone else had such a problem?

    This may have nothing to do with your problem, but -- at least with Acrobat 8, there is a 100MB limit to the scanned image. Are you trying to scan something larger than that?
