Match frame from source clip to timeline

Can Premier CS6 do match from from source to timeline?  I can only seem to go from timeline to source.

Reverse Match was only added to the newest CC 2014 just released on Tuesday.

  • Match frame from subclip to original full clip?

Can anybody tell me if it is possible to match frame from a subclip to the original full clip?  When I match frame from a clip in my timeline that came from a subclip, the subclip loads into the source monitor.  I can't find how to then match frame from that back to the original.  I am relatively new to Premiere Pro, and this is a very very useful feature over in Avid land.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for elaborating.
You can achieve at least part of what you describe by making your subclips "soft." To do so at creation-time, in the Make Subclip dialog, uncheck the option "Restrict Trims to Subclip Boundaries." To convert an existing "hard" subclip, access the Edit Subclip dialog (Clip>Edit Subclip, or right-click>Edit Subclip, or define a keyboard shortcut and use that) and uncheck the option.
Soft and hard subclips behave differently in two notable ways:
when you doubleclick a soft subclip in the Timeline, the Source Monitor loads the whole clip. The zoom/scrub bar is zoomed in to the In/Out range of what's used in the sequence, but you can zoom out to view the whole thing. Note that Match Frame does not load the clip in the same way--you're not able to zoom out. However, double-clicking a clip automatic matches frame (if the playhead is over the clip you clicked).
You can trim out beyond the defined Subclip Boundaries, either in the Timeline or Source Monitor.
Now, if you want to create a completely new subclip for a different segment, there's no direct command for that, but it's achievable through a series of steps that you may find easier than restarting from the original master clip. (Almost all of the following commands can be executed via keyboard shortcuts.)
Reveal in Project (from Timeline or Source Mon)
    Duplicate
Load the dupe in the Source Monitor
    Edit Subclip
Select the option "Convert to Master Clip" checkbox and click OK.
At this point, the whole clip will be loaded in the Source Monitor, zoomed to the subclip's In/Out range but without In/Out points set. You can set new In/Out points, then save a new subclip.
As to why PPro does not maintain a master/sub relationship, I'm afraid I have no clue. I'd say it merits a feature request--both to maintain the link and, naturally, to provide a way to jump from the subclip to the master. You can submit such a request here: http://www.adobe.com/go/wish

  • Match frame from a freeze frame back to its motion clip?

I can't get back to the motion clip I used to pull my freeze frame. It only goes back to the freeze frame master clip, even if I use match frame to source file. Any ideas?

The freeze frame you pulled from a clip should have the clip name and timecode from where it was grabbed from.
Go back to the source video clip at the matching timecode and you will find where you grabbed it from.

  • Dropping audio when dragging clip from Source Panel to Timeline

I have having issues with audio being dropped when dragged from the Source Panel to the Timeline. Audio is present in the Source Panel and plays great along with video, but when I drag the selected clip to the Timeline it drops the audio.

Can't transfer video from source monitor to timeline
This is an answer to a previous topic about video but the same answer also applies to audio

  • How do I cut a single frame from a clip and use it as a photo in iPhoto

I would love to cut a frame from a clip in an iMovie project I have and then use that cut as a photo in I photo. Can I do it and how.
I'm under the gun and if you are insomniac and you want to answer right away, please go right ahead.  thank you

You can install an App called MPEG Streamclip or you can simply pull up the clip in full screen and take a screen shot using (command+shift+3) or using (command+shift+4) to click and drag to create a box around what you would like to take a snap shot of.

  • How do i create a still frame from a clip in iMovie 11? thanks

Good morning. How do I create a still frame from a clip in iMovie 11.  Thanks

First, get an app called MPEG Streamclip, which is free. (google MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5)
    Open MPEG Streamclip.
In iMovie, select the clip you need. Then, right-click/Reveal in Finder.
Drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip
In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the frame you want.
In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
Choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name.
You can then drag this photo into iPhoto.
Here is a video I made that steps through this...

  • CS6 Match Frame Problem, Sequence Clip vs Source Clip issue

    Hey folks.
So, I'm on Windows 7, Premiere Pro CS6.
I've found an issue with Match Frame (Control F), it seems to be acting inconsistently.  Sometimes when I double click on a clip in my sequence and hit F it brings up the sequence clip, other times it brings up the source clip (in the Source Monitor)
The problem here is that I'm placing markers on my sequence clips to line them up based on visual cues in the scene.  This work fine for a while, but then, seemingly randomly, I'll double click a sequence clip and when I hit F it brings up the source clip, not the sequence clip.  Now when I place markers they do not show up in the sequence because I'm marking the source clip not the sequence clip.
Anyone else encounter this?  If needed I can try to capture video of this happening.
    Thanks all,
    ~ James

Does this mean that it isn't possible to "Reviel in project", or otherwise locate a merged clip in the project window?
So far "Reveal in project", and "match frame", point to the same subfile of a merged clip... not very useful. What other options are there?
... A sad workaround is to type in the name of the merged file in the search frame at the top of the Project pain.
I guess this one for the feature request list.

  • Match-Frame with merged clip doesn't work

I have a merged clip forged from one video clip (with four channels of audio) and two audio clips, so the resulting merged clip has six channels of audio.
Merged via in-point, everything's in synch, fine.
Edit the merged clip into timeline.
    Match frame.
    Problem:
It matches to a clip with the same name as my merged clip... but it's not my merged clip because it's only got the four audio channels from my video source clip.
I've tried different clips, tried linked or unlinked, same result.
To boot, if in the timeline I select only audio channel #5 (which was from one of the audio source clips) and match-frame, it matches to the same pseduo-master clip, but, is several frames or seconds off.
    Ideas anyone?
    thanks!

Interesting... if I make a merged clip and name it "Apple" then place it in the timeline, the timeline clip is also named Apple. If I then in the browser change the clip's name to "Brother" and put it again in the timeline, it puts in a clip called "Apple"; and the first clip in the timeline is also still called Apple. But if I delete the Apple clips from timeline, and now put in Brother clip, it puts in a clip called Brother..... as if it's not updating the name-change. So that's weird.
But, none of the name-changing affects the match-fame problem; it still fails.

  • DVCPROHD Clips lose sync when added from subclip but not from source clips?

I am cutting with 1080P DVCPROHD.
I have sub clipped all the master clips.
However when I add footage to the time line from the sub clips it comes into the time line out-sync...WAY out of syn.
However if I find my shot in the sub clip...then match frame to the source clip before I edit to the time line the sync is solid?
    Whats the deal?
    Anyone get anything similar?

  • PP CS6 same settings as sequence created from source clip ...

If there is documentation on this one, let me know, I didn't see anything at a glance.   I am trying to educate myself on PP CS6 and encoding when one selects same settings as sequence on export where the sequence was created from a clip.  (And also just trying to understand the basics of encoding, codecs, formats, containers, etc. generally speaking.)   Keep in mind I am coming from a consumer level of understanding and prior used another editor that had "smart rendering" whereby if you selected an output matching a clip it matched everything and encode only what changed.  My source video in this case is from a Countour+ helmet camera unit: 1280x720, 59.94, progressive, .mov, "avc1" codec and H.264 reported by Gspot.    Let me know if you need more information.
Ok so when I do an export as noted above I see PP selecting "MPEG Preview" for the format and "MPEG I-Frame" for the codec, both options grayed out.  If I run gspot I get the same width, height, frame rate, etc. as the original source clips only gspot reports the format is mpeg-2.   I was expecting to see the mpeg-4/h.264 like the source video.   Is this result to be expected?
Secondarily, if your goal was to have a file that can play on your Sony PS3 (and a PC), what settings would you choose for export if you wanted to have the highest quality result?

Jim - you were spot-on.  Here's the response from Dropcam, in case anyone else had the same issue:
You are actually correct in that the frame rate for Dropcam's video does vary depending on a few factors. The fps slows down for night vision to average out image noise and increase the image quality. The fps will also slow down when there is no motion going on in a scene to conserve bandwidth.
    Thanks, Sean

  • Question about going from source monitor into timeline prior to going into program monitor?

In FCP you had to take a clip from the equivalent of the Source Monitor to the Program Monitor and either do an insert or overwite edit with the clip from there. I see that Premiere has insert and overwrite buttons built right into the Source monitor window. Are there any issues with doing it all from here and not dragging them into the Program Monitor first?
    Thanks.

Typical NLE behavior is to go from the Source Monitor to the Timeline.  The Program Monitor shows whatever is in the timeline.  If FCP forced you to go from Source to Program, and then to timeline, that is very unusual behavior for an NLE since, again, the Program monitor is supposed to show you what's in the timeline.
What PP now allows you to do is drag a clip from Source to Program, but this will simultaneously add the clip to the timeline because, as I said, the Program Monitor's purpose is to show you what's in the timeline.  With most any NLE out there, if it ain't in the timeline, it won't show up in the Program Monitor.  And if it shows up in the Program Monitor, then it must already be in the timeline.

  • 12 tracks of audio on match frame to a clip captured with 2 tracks of audio

Hi. I'm new to FCP 5.1.4 but am very experienced in 4.5. My problem is the following:
Some of the clips I've captured using a Blackmagic DV NTSC Easy Setup appear to have captured correctly in the browser with 1 Video track and 2 audio tracks. They even open into the Viewer as such. When I drop the clip into a sequence and match frame back to the viewer, the clip suddenly has 12 mono audio tracks. Has anyone run into this?
The number 12 makes sense, because the Blackmagic DV NTSC setup gives me no other option than to have 12 tracks of audio, but when the footage is logged, it is logged as 1V, 2A.
I hope I'm providing enough info. Please let me know if you need to know anything else. Any ideas?

Might be the same, but I used to get 8 tracks in AJA. Turn off the tracks 4-12 in the clip settings tab in the log and capture window. You basically captured 10 empty audio tracks. Do this by clicking the green speakers next to the tracks. They should be grayed out, except the ones you want to capture.

  • How to Delete several Audio clips from Video clips on Timeline of APPro CS5

I  would like to know how to delete multiple audio clips from Video clips at once in time line in APPro CS5? Please advice step-by-step procedure. I can DELETE audio from a single Video clip. But I wanted to DEL Audio from multiple video clips. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the advice given by Shooternz, Colin and Jim. Your help is much appreciated for a beginner like me... Jim's idea was also good..It worked for me and also safe if I need to use the original audio. Following method also found good...but previous audio clip cannot be extracted after deleting it. ... 1. Hold down "ALT" key first then select the first audio clip in the chain of video clips to Delete. 2. Hold down " Shift + Alt " keys together and click right mouse button on all audio clips to be deleted one by one. Make sure only audio clips are selected. 3. Then release ALT+Shift keys and then click right mouse button and select "Clear" from pull down menu to Delete all selected audio clips on the time line. This method works very well for me. Thanks for every one who has adviced me how to do it. Thanks guys... If u all find better method tha above...please inform us. Thx.

  • Source clips and timeline wont play

    Hi
I'm running ppCS5 from mastersuite on mac pro, osx 10.6.7, 2 x2.8 ghz quadcore with 4gb ram.  I'm able to import video into my projects from both camera and from hard drive no problem.  I can scrub through the clips/timeline and move frame by frame but when i press the play button, nothing is happening... any ideas? I've applied the most recent updates and had a look through a few forums but there doesnt seem to be anyone with a solid idea of what could be causing this...
short of reinstalling the whole mastersuite can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks Colin. Tried that before coming on here to no avail.  There is no playback at all. It's starting to really annoy me now - so frustrating. I've uninstalled and reinstalled . If i didnt have to complete partially finished premiere projects i'd use imovie...it doesnt have as many features and is weird to use, but at least it's reliable
