Match songs appear with wrong information; album art

Two days ago I paid for iTunes match, and uploaded everything from my Laptop library (it has about 98% of my songs available).  Today, when go into iTunes on my workstation at work, not only does the song information not match the song, but the album cover art does.  In other words, if I want "In The End" by Linkin Park, and I click it, it shows a picture of a Kiss album and plays "Love Gun."  Any ideas on how to remedy this?

  • Songs with the same album art not grouped together in iTunes for Windows

Brand new iTunes user here - do not yet have an iPod! (Needed some music only on iTunes)
When I first started up iTunes, it imported all of my music I already had on my computer. A few of them are soundtracks with different artists.
When they are shown in the iTunes library, the soundtracks have been broken up by Artist instead of staying as a whole album. How do I get the songs back together as one album? I found the folder on my computer where they are stored and combined them there, but they are still separate in the iTunes library.
    Thanks from a total newbie!

Mark the tracks on the album as "Part of a compilation" and fill in the Album Artist field as "Various Artists". Click on the first track of your album to highlight it, hold down the shift key and click on the last track to highlight everything in between. Right click on the selection and choose Get Info. You'll get a message asking if you want to edit multiple items, say yes. If you are using iTunes 8 in the box that opens go to the Options tab and change "part of a compilation" to Yes and choose OK.
Also in your library click on the title bar of album column to bring all the tracks in the same album together. If you keep clicking in the title you can choose it to sort by Album, Album by Artist or Album by Year. Clicking on the little triangle on the right side of the column header changes the sort direction. Pointing up and the column is sorted in Ascending order (A to Z). Pointing down and the column is sorted in Descending order (Z to A).

  • How can I display a compilation album as one album rather than as separate songs? (each different artist shows with the same album art)

I want a compilation album, consisting of different artists, to all be included within the one album folder.  Currently when scrolling through my ipod classic each artist has its own album folder, even though they originate from the same album e.g. "The Best Rock 'n' Roll Album in the World Ever" consists of two discs (50 songs).  Each artist's song shows as a 'separate album' of one song, each with the same album artwork.  I want all of those on Disc 1 to be under one album cover and similarly for those on Disc 2.

Select all the tracks on disc 1 and via Get Info, change the Album Artist to Various Artists and turn on the compilation flag. This is iTunes 12:
    Then repeat for disc 2.

  • HT4915 How do you reindex a corrupted match database? (ie songs appear with the wrong artist, album & title information)

I am seeing that my songs of uploaded to match are corrupted in the database. The details of the tracks have the wrong title, album and artist.
But if the song is in a playlist it still plays ok, just says it's a different track, artist etc.
Guess I'd like to simply delete the registry, and re 'match' my songs correctly.

Can anyone please answer my question?

  • "Why aren't songs with the same album art grouped together?" - Take 2

I've done all the tricks suggested in the doc nu 304389.
I still have some albums splitted in 2 or 3 versions with the same cover art and different songs on each version... How to regroup the rebels??

    I've found the solution:
There is sometimes a useless blank space at the end of the name of an album.
Edit the information: in the album field, remove an eventual blank space at the end of the name of the album by backspacing...
    Et voilà!

  • ITunes Match: How can I tell if a matched song is from the correct album?

Since iTunes Match uses my album art and metadata, is there a way to see the album art of the matched item from iTunes?
I have ripped hundreds of classical music CDs through the years into iTunes, and they all have album art (not from iTunes Match).   Now that I have signed up for iTunes Match, how can I confirm that a matched item from iTunes is from the correct album?
I have read that the matching algorithm isn't perfect and can match to the wrong item.   I have recently upgraded the quality of all my ripped music by downloading all the matches from iTunes Match, and replacing my local CD rips (I have backups).
So, if I ripped Beethoven's 9th by Herbert Von Karajan, is there a way to see the album art of the matched music from iTunes, so that I can confirm it didn't match the item to Beethoven's 9th by Bruno Walter?
Does the matching algorithm use song length/duration, or is it only using wave form sampling?
    Thanks!
    Paul

    Thanks for the help Jim.
I'm not having any troubles with artwork changing, but I wish I were, because if the artwork changed then that would allow me to detect if the correct tracks are being matched.
I'm worried about waveform matching with classical music because I can have 2 pianists or 2 orchestras that play the same piece so it seems that the waveforms would be very similiar.   I have many CDs of the same pieces of music but by different performers.  For example, both performers play on a piano and both play the same piece of music.  Wouldn't the waveforms be very similar?
So that's why I'm wondering if there is some way to get the artwork of the piece being matched, so that I can see what album it is coming from.
Do you think if I deleted my artwork and then matched, that I'd get the artwork injected into my matched music?
Thanks again for entertaining all my questions.  Really appreciate it.

  • 'Matched' Songes downloading with same (lower) bit rate.

Well this problem must been mentioned before but it seems hard to find in these forums - for me at least.  I have found a few cases where people have confused 'uploaded' for 'matched' - but this is certainly not the case here. Though Itunes may be confusing the terms by the looks of it
Quite simply: several lower bitrate songs are shown in my library with 'Matched' as their icloud status.  However when I delete them and download them from icloud, they come back with exactly the same bitrate as if they has been simply 'uploaded'.  This happens to me on two different libraries on a Mac and a PC respectively (same account though)!
Is this simply a known bug - a work in progress?
Perhaps there is already a thread about this in which case could someone point me to it?

i have also noticed this recently. let me explain a bit of the background
had a mac mini which i bought itunes match on and replaced some (not all) of my mpeg files with matched AAC files.
i then bought a macbook air but because of the small size of the SSD did not download the matched AAC files to it. at this point i pretty much stopped using my mini to manage my music and just used to MBA to add / stream files.
due to some amendments i wanted to make to some of the track info on an album i downloaded it. even though it was fully matched i was surprised to see some of the songs downloading as matched mpeg's. i was pretty certain they used to all be AAC files.
sure enough i went back to my mini and noticed that the album had originally downloaded all tracks as matched AAC files. i have checked the file thoroughly to ensure it isn't corrupt or anything and it plays perfectly. as a test i then deleted the AAC file and redownloaded to see what came up, it downloaded as an mpeg!
my questions to apple would be
why are these files now reverting back to mpeg's after being matched originally?
and (perhaps more importantly) HOW did they get this file to upload? is it even MY mpeg or someone else's that uploaded? as i have stated originally it matched so no uploading would ever have taken place.
this isn't a one off i might add. i thoroughly checked my entire library of 10,000 songs and have over 300 instances of this happening where i originally had the matched AAC file and am now left with an mpeg.
more strange itunes match behaviour. coupled with the constant 11111 error, the long 'sending information to apple' time and the clean / explicit debacle equals very shoddy service so far. and no word from apple on fixes or even an aknowledgement this is happening. poor.

  • Problem with showing mp3 album art in list view.

    Hello.
I have litle problem with showing mp3 album artwork in list view.
In SNOW LEOPARD all work fine, and all mp3 files have album art's preview in list mode in finder.
But in LION i have only default preview mp3 icon.
Option "Show icon preview" is already on!

    I have the fix!!!!
I have had the same issue ever since Lion. Its been very painful not having album art preview in finder or the play button when rollover the file for so many versions of OSX. Today I worked hard in trying to solve the problem since Applecare support hasn't helped much, all they did was tell me to bring the computer in. The other main reason I got so motivated to try and fix this is because the DJ app for Mac only reads album art from the finder even if iTunes can display the album art. The other reason that got me curious is that my friends macbook pro album art worked fine, so I cross checked with his computer until I figured out a few things that helped and ultimately fixed the issue. FINALLY!
    My set up:
    - I have my full iTunes library folder on my external as I have over 700GB of music.
    - It includes all my database files in there, which is very important as I have many playlist settings from over 7 years of iTunes activity.
    SOLUTION:
    1. With every new computer I have purchased, I use to just pressed option on Mac and press iTunes to locate my folder (which I have said is located on my external drive).
    2. I tried today to press option again BUT locate and selected the default library in the user/music folder of my internal drive (standard setting from Apple).
    3. Miraculously, all the album art appeared in both my external drive library and also today's downloaded songs on my Macbook pro. Ofcourse with the new default location I don't have any songs or data.
    4. So I tried to find a way to keep this library data on my internal drive since it can help the finder display all my files properly, yes even have the play on rollover button but as well link it back to my external drive with all my 700GB songs.
    5. I then went into iTunes Preferences/Advance tab and in iTunes Media folder locationredirected the location to my external drive iTunes/ iTunes Media folder. If it asks to collate data, press NO.
    6. Then I quit iTunes.
    7. Next I copied the 4 files to my desktop from my external drive as I want to keep the data I have made with all my playlists etc. The four files are iTunes Library Extras.itdb ,iTunes Library Genius.itdb , iTunes Library.itl , iTunes Library.xml
    8. I then went to my internal drive User/Music/Itunes/ and dragged these 4 files I copied from my external drive into here and making sure to REPLACE the four existing files already there.
    9. Next open iTunes and you will find all your presettings appear with all your music linked to your external. What this does is keep the important library files on your internal drive (that somehow makes your finder files album art appear), BUT to read also all the music mp3 files located in the external drive (action from step 5)
Presto!! All your music files whether on internal drive or external all the album art has appeared.
Hope this helps!! Let me know if there are any other questions.
I am on 10.8.1 running retina macbook pro.

  • How to find all songs that do not have album art

I create several smart playlists for housekeeping, like songs with no year, songs with no album name, etc. I wanted to create a similar one that lists all songs that do not have any album art associated with it. I have not seen this option when creating a playlist, but I didn't know if there was a way to write a script (that could run on Windows) that could create this playlist for me. I can (and have) gone through each song individually to note which did not have album art, but I have almost 5000 songs, and this is not really feasible any more.
Has anyone else done anything similar to this? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Awesome !!! Thank you very much. I did not realize you could use JavaScript to code against iTunes ...
I don't know if you have written any of these yourself, but do you know how to maybe create a smart playlist with this information via script? If not, no big deal. At least I know have something which I can use, I will just have to run it every so often.
Thanks again for pointing me to that site!

  • Sync problem - songs appearing in wrong order

Have been using Ipod classic with Itunes for several months with no problems.
A couple of weeks ago I connected Ipod to my PC to sync and charge. rather than just putting recently added music onto my ipod as per usual, it proceeded to transfer my full library, overwriting the version of my full library that was previously on my Ipod.
This action has produced disasterous results in that the albums on my ipod now appear with the track listings jumbled - ie. the albums are not presented in the correct song running order. The original track list for some albums are shuffled within the album.
Does anyone know what causes this and how to rectify.
I have tried resetting Ipod to factory setting, deleting contents and re-loading with music from scratch, but to no avail.
I can confirm my software is up to date.
    Any help appreciated.

I read your post, are you sure you read all of my article? Common causes of misordered tracks are case variations in artist names or album titles which while they cause the tracks to be enumerated out of sequence don't actually trigger multiple album covers. Disc X of Y numbering should be consistent across all the tracks of each disc and Artist, Album, Album Artist, Sort Artist, Sort Album, Sort Album Artist and part of a compilation should be consistent across the album.
One remaining idea that I've yet to conclusively confirm or rule out is the possibilty that where mp3 tracks have multiple ID3 tags, e.g. V1.x and V2.x, it might be the case that different processes in iTunes actually access different versions of the tags. This may also explain why some edits in iTunes fail to take hold even when it is confirmed that the required file access permissions are in place.
Which builds of iTunes & iPod firmware are you using? What formats are these files in, and if mp3 can you confirm what tag formats they contain? You'll need to use something other than iTunes as it doesn't report multiple tags.

  • Songs appearing as Artists and Albums???

I loaded one CD onto my Video iPod that arrived by mail today and I transferred it to my iPod..
But when I went to look at it..
I clicked into Artists and all the 13 songs appeared under that as if they were Artists..
I clicked Albums and it was the same way.
    Nothing separating them.
Instead of having Runway 36 under artists.. it had all their songs instead...
    Any reason why?
I went into preferenced and fooled around alittle trying to figure it out and I unchecked something that said, Load songs to Artists and Albums also..
And then I took the songs off and reloaded... and I still have the same problem..
    sigh
    Can you help me?

greetings Stevornio, and welcome to the forums !
    this tip come from TT2:
+To display all artists in the Artists menu on your iPod, even those who only appear on compilations, remove the ticks against both of the iPod Compilation menu items, i.e.+
    +Settings > Main Menu > Music > Compilations+
    +Settings > Music Menu > Compilations+
+Cover flow should remain the same, with all compilations albums listed at the right-hand end.+
+To display all artists in the Artists browser column in iTunes turn off the preference to Group compilations when browsing. Provided you have set the Album Artist field the albums should remain grouped together.+

  • Skipping songs when trying to add album art

    Hello,
I have a 60gb video ipod and am having a problem recently. Everytime I rip a CD onto itunes I have to add the artwork manually and when I do this, the songs (on only the new CD) on iTunes skip during the beginning 10 seconds of every song. As well, iTunes shows that it is downloading the album art, but it doesn't add anything.
    Can anyone please help.
    Thanks very much.

    Really Weird,
Numbering is fine now but when I attempt to add artwork, it doesn't allow it and puts skips int the beginning of every song. This is not just when I play the song in iTunes but it actually writes the skip onto the song so that no matter what player I use, it skips. This is now obviously an iTunes problem, not iPod but any help would be great.

  • I purchased a new computer and after setting up iTunes with the new computer, the majority of my previously bought songs appeared, except for one album. How do I recover this album without having to repurchase it?

Can anyone help me in trying to recover this album? I don't want to have to repurchase it because I already paid for it once.

One way is to restore from backup. The other way is to use iTunes on your old computer to burn a hard copy of the album (ie, make a audio CD.) Then import the songs to your new computer.

  • HT204406 iTunes Match songs appear uploaded but won't play on shared devices

I have songs (ALAC, DRM free) purchased from Bandcamp that refuse to play or download on shared Match devices.  These play fine on my iTunes Match master computer in their original format, and appear to be uploaded/synced to iCloud.
They are available on my other synced devices (iPhone, mac, windows PC) but whenever I try to play or download I get an error saying the song is not available for download.
I've tried completeley deleting the music from the library and resyncing.  The songs are recognized by iCloud and added back to my library, but are still not able to play.  Because I know this isn't specific to the mobile device and rather to iCloud directly I'm at a loss as to how to troubleshoot it.
My only thought would be that they need to be transcoded (the songs aren't available on the iTunes Store), but it has been weeks since they were initially uploaded, and even if I obtained the 320kbps MP3 files from Bandcamp they would still be transcoded to AAC for Match compatibility, so I'm not really sure how to proceed.
Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
