Matched pairs... but not size?

Knowing that 4 ram modules is needed to run parallel...
If I ordered 2 X 1 GB modules and ran the stock 2X 512MB with it...
would that qualify the ram to reach peak bandwidth?... or do all 4 need to be the same size... or does the 512 limit the 1 Giggers any?
Trying to get away with 3GB for now...with an eye for 5 total down the road.
Or is 4... then 6 the way to go?
TIA.

My "slow boat to China" plan with all 3rd party RAM (excluding stock RAM) and a maximum of either 6 or 8GB would go as such…
3GB A1/2 - 2 x 512MB - A3/4 - Empty - B1/2 - 2 x 1GB - B3/4 - Empty
5GB A1/2 - 2 x 1GB - A3/4 - 2 x 512MB - B1/2 - 2 x 1GB - B3/4 - Empty
6GB A1/2 - 2 x 1GB - A3/4 - 2 x 512MB - B1/2 - 2 x 1GB - B3/4 - 2 x 512MB
else
3GB A1/2 - 2 x 512MB - A3/4 - Empty - B1/2 - 2 x 1GB - B3/4 - Empty
5GB A1/2 - 2 x 1GB - A3/4 - 2 x 512MB - B1/2 - 2 x 1GB - B3/4 - Empty
7GB A1/2 - 2 x 1GB - A3/4 - 2 x 512MB - B1/2 - 2 x 1GB - B3/4 - 2 x 1GB
8GB A1/2 - 2 x 1GB - A3/4 - 2 x 1GB - B1/2 - 2 x 1GB - B3/4 - 2 x 1GB
My personal plan is as follows with 2GB from Apple (4 x 512MB)…
4GB A1/2 - 2 x 512MB - A3/4 - 2 x 512MB - B1/2 - 2 x 512MB - B3/4 - 2 x 512MB
else
6GB A1/2 - 2 x 1GB - A3/4 - 2 x 512MB - B1/2 - 2 x 1GB - B3/4 - 2 x 512MB
Basically, the idea is to have your largest DIMMs in slots 1 and 2 (to have your larger DIMMs do the heavy lifting) and then to keep the RAM balanced between Risers A and B (so that you maximum 256-bit memory bandwidth is utilized as much as possible). So, 4GB with 2 x 1GB and 4 x 512MB should look like this…
4GB A1/2 - 2 x 1GB - A3/4 - Empty - B1/2 - 2 x 512MB - B3/4 - 2 x 512MB

  • Regex to match numbers but not characters

    Hey all,
    I brain must not be working right or something but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get a regex to match numbers, but not characters.
    e.g.
    123456
    would match, but
    123abc
    would not. Essentially what I want to do is take a string and only return a match when the string has numbers but no characters.

    No, it doesn'tYes it does.
    "123abc".matches("\\d+");
    "abc123".matches("\\d+");
    "123".matches("\\d+");
    false,false,trueExcellent example demonstrating the output of a method.
    However the suggestion above was referring to a regular expression, not a method.
    And the above regular expression does match with the following methods
    "123abc".replaceAll("\\d+", "xxx");
    "abc123".replaceAll("\\d+", "xxx");
    "123".replaceAll("\\d+", "xxx");
    The correct regular expression to match only digits is....
    ^\d+$

  • Use cellular data for iTunes Match & Radio but not app Updates

    Is there any way to set an iOS device so that it will allow using cellular data for iTunes Match and iTunes Radio but not downloading app Updates. I want to be able to set my wife's phone so that the apps are automatically updated over Wifi but she can then use iTunes Match and iTunes Radio when she is out. She only uses those in limited capacity so I am not too worried about her using up her data plan with those. However, app Downloads seems to be quite large, and they happened a lot recently when they all updated for iOS8.
    Thanks,
    Tony

    No, but you could turn off Updates under Automatic Downloads in Settings>iTunes & App Store, then update them manually when you're connected to wifi.

  • My headset is paired ,but not connected

    My headset is paired but it is not connected,can anybody help please

    After attempting to connect via a bluetooth dongle (USB external bluetooth send/receive device), I am fairly certain that the bluetooth-Mac problem is software based. The same headset worked wonderfully under previous OS-X versions. I really do not appreciate having to reconnect every few minutes and to continually reinstall my bluethooth headset. Obviously, Apple does NOT want to fix the problem.

  • Bluetooth to Phone: Pairing, but not working properly.

    Hey everyone. I am the owner of a Black MacBook and a Sony Ericsson W850i, which until recently, both worked fine with each other using bluetooth. Now, however, even though the devices are properly paired, I cannot use 'browse my device' to browse my phone from my MacBook, nor can I send files to my phone. The message I get is "Failure to establish connection to device." According to my Mac and Phone, both of them have OBEX Object Push and File Transfer in their services list. In the advanced tab of the Bluetooth Settings, I have one serial port named "Bluetooth-PDA-Sync." It is on and the type is set to "modem." Under "Edit Serial Ports" for my phone in the Bluetooth Preferences, I have three ports. One generic one, one OBEX File Transfer and one OBEX Object Push. Any ideas what could be causing the problem? All support is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

    If your phone has worked before, try to do this:
    1. Shut down your Mac
    2. Disconnect power and battery.
    3. Press power button for 10-15 sec.
    4. Put all together and try to pair the two again.
    Sometimes this is all it takes.
    Also, have you upgraded your software, recently? That may have caused the problem.
    Note: According to this link (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/) your phone may not be supported. I don't see W850i on the list. I had the same problem with RAZR. Mac supports v3x but not v3xx.

  • Android phone could pair but not connect to Ipad 2. any reason?

    I'm trying to connect my Android phone 2.3.5 to new Ipad 2 with IOS 4.3.5 via Bluetooth. It does pair but does not connect.
    Anybody knows why?
    thanks

    The iPad doesn't support file transfer over bluetooth. Are you able to copy the info over to your computer from the phone and then sync them to the iPad - the iPad supports contact syncing from (from the iPad manual):
    You can sync contacts with applications such as Mac OS X Address Book, Yahoo! Address Book, and Google Contacts on a Mac, or with Yahoo! Address Book, Google Contacts, Windows Address Book (Microsoft Outlook Express), Windows Vista Contacts, or Microsoft Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 on a PC. (On a Mac, you can sync contacts with multiple applications. On a PC, you can sync contacts with only one application at a time.)
    or :
    MobileMe or Microsoft Exchange account on iPad with Contacts enabled
    So I think that you will need to get the contacts into one of those before you can sync them to the iPad (it's not something that I've done).

  • Apple Wireless Keyboard under Windows 7 pairing but not responding

    Hi all,
    I'm having a strange issue getting my Apple Wireless Keyboard to run on my new HTPC under Windows 7 (64 bit). I can get Windows' bluetooth manager to detect the keyboard, and I can input the pairing code, following which Windows seems to install a bunch of drivers, but then I get no response from the keyboard at all.
    The thing I find strange is that the keyboard works when I punch in the code numbers, but never before or after.
    I also have a Magic Mouse which works perfectly.
    Once paired and installed, the keyboard is displayed in Windows' driver manager as a "Bluetooth Peripheral Device", so I'm wondering if the issue is that Windows isn't recognising the device as a keyboard.
    Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks heaps, in advance.

    After 3 frustrating hours of trying every tip on the net, I found the answer: Try this.
    "This finally fixed it for me: Device Manager - Open System Devices, you will find a Bluetooth HID Device. Double Click it, open Driver tab and click "Update Driver" Select Browse my Computer, then "Let me Pick". It should now show TWO compatible drivers with exactly the same name. One of them is the Microsoft one, one is the non-working Chinese ****. Install one of them and see if the driver properties changed to the right (Microsoft) driver. If not, try again with the other one. For me, the Microsoft driver was the first one in the list, but this may be different for you. Wow, an annoying and intense hour of trouble shooting finally over..."

    The issue is related to the Chinese version of the driver that the latest windows update applies that stops the keyboard from working.
    I'm typing this on the Apple Wireless Keyboard on Windows 7 64 bit on my PC. Finallly!

    You can't via Bluetooth - it would take forever even if you could.
    Transfer the music and pictures from your smartphone to your computer, import the music into iTunes, then sync it and the pictures to the iPad via iTunes. Using iTunes with your iPad is covered in the iPad user guide:

  • Magic mouse paired  but not working

    My new magic mouse installed ok and paired up ok . The pointer moves around but when you click nothing happens. The icons on the dock raise up when you move over them but nothing opens up.

    Just one thought. The new Magic Mouse comes with tape and packing material that prevents clicking. Make sure that all tape and wrapping materials have been removed. They are transparent and sometimes hard to see.
