'Matched' Songes downloading with same (lower) bit rate.

Well this problem must been mentioned before but it seems hard to find in these forums - for me at least.  I have found a few cases where people have confused 'uploaded' for 'matched' - but this is certainly not the case here. Though Itunes may be confusing the terms by the looks of it
Quite simply: several lower bitrate songs are shown in my library with 'Matched' as their icloud status.  However when I delete them and download them from icloud, they come back with exactly the same bitrate as if they has been simply 'uploaded'.  This happens to me on two different libraries on a Mac and a PC respectively (same account though)!
Is this simply a known bug - a work in progress?
Perhaps there is already a thread about this in which case could someone point me to it?

i have also noticed this recently. let me explain a bit of the background
had a mac mini which i bought itunes match on and replaced some (not all) of my mpeg files with matched AAC files.
i then bought a macbook air but because of the small size of the SSD did not download the matched AAC files to it. at this point i pretty much stopped using my mini to manage my music and just used to MBA to add / stream files.
due to some amendments i wanted to make to some of the track info on an album i downloaded it. even though it was fully matched i was surprised to see some of the songs downloading as matched mpeg's. i was pretty certain they used to all be AAC files.
sure enough i went back to my mini and noticed that the album had originally downloaded all tracks as matched AAC files. i have checked the file thoroughly to ensure it isn't corrupt or anything and it plays perfectly. as a test i then deleted the AAC file and redownloaded to see what came up, it downloaded as an mpeg!
my questions to apple would be
why are these files now reverting back to mpeg's after being matched originally?
and (perhaps more importantly) HOW did they get this file to upload? is it even MY mpeg or someone else's that uploaded? as i have stated originally it matched so no uploading would ever have taken place.
this isn't a one off i might add. i thoroughly checked my entire library of 10,000 songs and have over 300 instances of this happening where i originally had the matched AAC file and am now left with an mpeg.
more strange itunes match behaviour. coupled with the constant 11111 error, the long 'sending information to apple' time and the clean / explicit debacle equals very shoddy service so far. and no word from apple on fixes or even an aknowledgement this is happening. poor.

If I have converted my purchased iTunes songs to a lower bit rate what will happen when I join iTunes match? Will they match up or will these be stored as duplicates of the same song?
I ask because I primarily use my work laptop which has limited space so I usually convert my purchases to 160k from 256k in order to save space. I want to sign up for iTunes Match but I'd like to know before I do so I can understand how I will have to set up my library.

What I may do is start a brand new library there, copy my tracks from my work laptop using Home Share and then the script to get things in sync before starting over again there too.
Why create a new library? Just add the tracks from the laptop to the existing library on the Mac.

I was just hoping to hear definitively whether or not there was some sort of intelligence built into iTunes Match that would match these up...
How do you mean? If you down-convert purchased tracks you've fundamentally changed the files so iTunes can no longer recoginize them as "purchased." And, indeed, they no longer are since they are brand new files. Of course these new files will only be "matched" or "uploaded."

  • PROBLEM with 24/96 bit-rate USB DAC that worked fine until I plugged in two

I'm using a late 2008 15" Macbook Pro that I bought Jan 2009 right before the SD card models came out. Mac OSX 10.6.4 and iTunes 9.2 are installed. I have a Nuforce Icon HDP and a CEntrance DACport 24/96 bit-rate USB DAC (external sound cards) that still work great right now. Note - 16 bit/44 Khz is CD quality, and these 24/96 files are hi-resolution downloads that are closer to SACD or DVD audio.
I have been evaluating a new third 24/96 USB DAC plugged directly into the Macbook USB port (no hub) which has been working fine for over 2 weeks with 24/96 bit-rate lossless music files in iTunes. Audio Midi Setup is set for 24/96 to match the music file's resolution. After making suggestions to the manufacturer they made some improvements and sent me a new version to listen for the differences.
I listened to the new one for a day and it worked fine, but when I plugged in the original test sample into the second USB port at the same time as the new one in order to compare them, the sound became garbled and noisy. This never happened when either one was plugged in by itself. Note, if I make changes to the DAC's bit-rate in Audio Midi Setup I usually close iTunes first and then re-open it when I am done.
Upon hearing this new problem I unplugged both of the new USB DACs and plugged just one of them back in, but now it causes iTunes music playback to pause when one is plugged in and set for 24/96 in audio midi setup. Prior to plugging in both at the same time, either one worked just fine by itself. There is no reason when unplugging one or the other that they shouldn't start working again. But now I can't play any 24/96 music through either one anymore. In quicktime player the songs don't pause like with iTunes, but there is no sound coming through even with just one DAC plugged in at a time. Then I discovered that if I go into Audio Midi Setup application and lower the bit rate to 24/48 then iTunes will resume playing again and I can hear the music fine with iTunes or Quicktime player.
Basically, my Macbook Pro has now lost the ability to play 24/96 bit rate with either of these new USB DACs, when they both worked fine before I plugged them in at the same time. More confusing is that they use the same USB receiver chip as in one of the DACs that I mentioned above in the first paragraph, and both the HDP and DACport still work fine at 24/96 bit-rate. It's only these two new USB DAC that require me to lower the bit rate in Audio Midi Setup to 24/48 in order to listen through them, and this wasn't a problem as recently as yesterday!
The computer is acting like some setting needs to be wiped out - it's DEFINITELY NOT the USB DAC's that are faulty because they still both work fine at 24/96 on my wife's iMac (I'm afraid to try plugging in both at the same time to the iMac in case I screw that Mac up too).
I have reset the PRAM a few times, and this doesn't fix the problem. I thought maybe the com.apple.audiomidisetup.plist file could be corrupted and deleted it, but that didn't help. I don't know what to try next to get the Macbook to start fresh when trying to use these devices, short of having to re-install OSX.
Please, does anyone have a suggestion of how I can make the Macbook forget it ever saw these two USB DACs, and let me start fresh so they start working normally again? I do dozens of reviews for Head-fi.org and I can't afford to have my Macbook Pro compromised like this, which could prevent me from doing some reviews or evaluating new products.

    UPDATE:
As noted in the first post, both of these newer USB DAC work fine at 24/96 on my wife's iMac, so it's clear that they didn't both become defective when I connected them to the Macbook Pro at the same time.
Resetting the Macbook Pro PRAM didn't help, so I removed the hard shell laptop case to get to the battery and remove it, then reset the SMC. After that I could use the original DAC at 24/96 again, but only IF it was plugged into the rear USB port. If I plugged it into the front USB port then the sound was garbled and filled with noise. This was a vast improvement over no sound at all.
Then I switched to the replacement/updated DAC, but I got no sound at all from either USB port at any bit-rate. And returning to the original DAC again now results in no sound again.
Sigh... I will reset the PRAM and SMC again, and see how far I can get with this. I'd still love some help. Thanks!

  • Very Low Bit Rate!!!

Ok, iTunes is not the best program of the computer planet music, far away…
All music sites offering the possibility to choice the format and downloading with a quality what we wants, no iTunes Store, WHY? I have professional equipment and disgust me to listen my music in 256kb very (LOW BIT RATE).
I spend the max in the MacBook Air (the best configuration), the must of sound card etc. for what??? It’s time to change and make a true revolution on iTunes and iTunes Store. For ex: when we listening one song on iTunes, the folder don’t come to the principal window if you are in artist’s mode! We need to search in the library to find the folder and get information or modify something!

Is the file stored in iTunes as a music file?
If so then the one way of getting it on your phone would be to convert it to a podcast or audiobook, which I believe will work.
It isn't a full conversion as such, all you do is change a tag in "get info".
Another way would be to choose "create AAC version" which should make it eligible.
I understand why you don't want to do this sort of messing around, but nfortunately at this stage in the release there are still lots of these sort of issues, most of which will likely be resolved in the next few updates.
If you don't want to do those steps then another option would be to turn match off until these issues get fixed. Obviously, we have no idea of timescales (or if that particular issue will ever get addressed). There are enough people being affected by it that I'd be surprised if it isn't a reasonably high priority though.

  • Re-sync at lower bit rate

decided to re-sync my downloaded music at a higher bitrate , and by doing so i used up nearly all of my available storage space on my phone.  I would like to return to the lower bit rates for my entire collection of downloads, but not finding any tools to do this, any thoughts?

kiho - You got it! As you probably noticed, "Convert" in iTunes actually means "create a new copy." After conversion, you will have both versions in your library, so if you don't want the 320s any more, delete them. If you have playlists with the 320 versions in them, you can manually replace the songs with their new lower bitrate counterpart - that does not happen automatically. -Ed.

  • Apple Lossless lower bit rate than AIFF - why?

Why is the bit rate of Apple Lossless lower than that of AIFF for the same song?

    Chris2881 wrote:
I can understand the file size thing but why the lower bit rate?
    Chris2881,
In your iTunes library, the figure shown for bitrate is just the file size divided by the duration of the song (with adjustments for bytes to bits, and mega to kilo). If you look at an Apple Lossless file, the size and the bit rate are each about half of a standard AIFF for the same song.
As noted by fullcream, the Apple Lossless format is compressed but not lossy; it contains the full audio content of the CD (or AIFF) original but in a more compact file. Unlike AAC or MP3, Apple Lossless does not remove any audio content.

"Convert" tends to be a confusing term. What iTunes does is make another copy of the track at the lower bit rate for transfer to the Shuffle. Your original, higher bitrate file remains untouched.
Actually, iTunes converts the track on-the-fly while loading it on the shuffle. NO copy of the downconverted track is kept. The same process will occur IF you decide to delete the track from the shuffle and then happen to want to put it on the shuffle again.

  • How do I convert Ineligible (low bit rate, language lesions) to be eligible

I have a huge amount of language lessions that are 64kb encodings.  They are absolutely fine for my use.
But my paid iTunes Match subscription refuses to upload them.  I tried converting one to AAC but that did not help.
As I understand it, there are two problems: the low bit rate, and the genre is Books & Spoken .. both of which are not uploaded.
The genre is fine, I can change that to something that is "eligible".  But the bit rate is a problem.
So how do I manage these language lessions so that the ones I want in iTunes match are elegible?  I don't have all the original CDs and certainly don't want to re-rip them anyway, there are too many!
My guess is that I have to find an audio converter program and have them upgraded to whatever bitrate iTunes Match needs, and to change the genre to an elegible name, right?

Thanks guys.  It apparently works to simply convert to AAC 128kbs.  The genre lable seems to be OK as Books & Spoken.
There were some bumps along the way, ending up with 3 of each lesson at one point! .. But I think this is all going to work just fine.
It does seem bizzare that this rule is in place, and certainly is going to end up with a LOT of unhappy customers.
Folks should be aware that the AAC conversion creates a copy so the originals can be saved after the conversion, then deleted from the Library.

  • Low bit rate 4k offline files

I'm editing 4k on a 720p timeline.  Its a bit slow and painful.  Is there any advantage to making offline files that are still 4k but lower bit rate?  (so that I can still do the crazy 3x zooms!)
(I suspect the limitation on my system is more processor than hard drive.  Its a xeon 3560x @3.6ghz, 12gb ram and a 7-drive raid5)

Thanks both!  I read that page Ann.  It doesn't help me work out how to deal with zooming images (like if I pan and scan and then replace footage ill need to modify the pan and scan).  The problem is I have mixed 4k and 1080 on the same timeline. I only need the 4k reduced in size

  • Encode at a lower bit rate when uploading to iPod nano 2nd gen

There is a feature that I liked when I used to put my music on my Motorola SLVR. When I synced my phone with iTunes I had the option to re-encode my files at a lower bit rate (I believe it was aac 128). I there a way to enable this feature for the iPod nano 2nd gen?

On-the-fly conversion is only available on the iPod shuffle. The iPod shuffle (probably because of it's limited capacity) has the option to "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC". This option is not available for any other model iPod. For the larger iPods the files have to be converted in iTunes first or indeed have to have been imported in a compressed format prior to transfer

  • Better compression at lower bit rates

I've not had much luck getting good h.264 compression from AME at lower bit rates. Are there some secrets that someone has shared? I used to be quite adept back in the day, so it's frustrating having to upload giant files to Vimeo. Any good guidance?
I should be more specific. It seem like close to 5 Mbps is need for full HD, but I remember Flash expert Fabio getting great results in less than 1:

It would be great if AME had some addition controls.

Wayyyyyy back when I first started encoding MP3s I was using 28 with an inferior encoder. At the time I couldn't spot the difference, but now the difference is stark. Particular types of music (and more specifically instruments and combinations) do emphasise it though.
Actually, you cannot hear the difference when the background noise is loud, or example, public transport. I suggest that one uses a noise cancellation headset. $$$

  • Adobe premiere elements 11 rendering at lower bit rate than i select

Hi, I'm using Adobe Premiere Elements 11, 64-bit Windows.
I keep trying to render a project at a bit target bit rate of 10.05 MB/S (.h264 1080p MP4) but the resulting .mp4 file keeps coming out with an average bit rate of around 7000kb instead of 10,000kb...
The source files used in the project are 17mbs..
    Other projects are rendering fine.
Would be very grateful for some advice.
Edit: Now realised it's happening to a substantial fraction of my projects. I am being very careful to select the right render settings

    b. I believe that each encode needs to be looked at separately.
    One example...Original AVCHD.mov file, 1920 x 1080p29.97, 69.9 MB, 12.579 seconds, and Bitrate Overall 46.6 Mbps and Bitrate 45 Mbps.
I decided that i would try for an AVCHD.mp4 export whose properties read out would include bitrate 10.5 Mbps.
    I selected Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD with Presets = MP4 H.264 1920 x 1080p30, and, in the Advanced Settings set Bitrate as VBR 2 Pass

    Second example..Original AVCHD.mov file from another camera, 1920 x 1080p30, 24.0 MB, 14.14 seconds, and Bitrate Overall 14.4 Mbps and Bitrate 12.2.

With the device connected, click the Summary tab and you will see the "Convert higher bit rate..." option.  Set it to 128.  See picture below:

  • 2 Questions - Low Bit rate output. Low frames per second FPS, HELP! Live show sucked!

I thought I had all of my settings set for a stream using FMLE running through stickam. Everything was looking good but when we went live our bit rate output went down below 100kbs. I had set it for high kbs but allowed it to drop size to keep frame rate. As you can imagine our video stream went from really good looking to choppy and almost freeze frame half the time. I have no idea what I did wrong. Is it my Cable Internet? My modem? I will say that I ran a speedtest.net test and although the download looked abnormally low I had 1.6Mbs upload which I thought should be sufficient? I'm not sure what to do.
2nd question. I set FPS frame rate at 25fps but the output only allowed 15fps to the live stream. What is causing this? Is this a default number? It didn't seem what I set the frame rate at, the output was at 15fps. I saw ways to change the fps on the input but nothing on the output. What is the deal here?
So... to recap. How do I keep the bit rates high and constant on a stream and how do I increase my fps on a stream. Or, to make it real easy, how do I get the best video stream picture that is not choppy or freeze frame. Our show is now starting to be sponsored by entities and I can't have bad looking shows. Can anybody lead me in the right direction?

Whats your Encoding machine's configuration? I feel a low configuration machine can cause choppy streams.
Did you try with any other video source?
I feel you have enough bandwidth to stream.

  • Undoing iTunes Match songs downloads on my iPhone?

I have over 48,000 songs in iTunes Match.
All of my songs showing on my iPad are in the iCloud. But some of my iTunes Match songs on my iPhone are downloaded onto my phone and I don't want them to be.
How do I reverse them into just being in the iCloud?

That approach works when I am loading new music.
I have found it doesn't work for music that has been loaded much earlier in time. For those songs, the swiping my finger to the left approach doesn't work.
I noticed recently that sometimes the songs that appear to be downloaded on my phone - that show no cloud by them - will subsequently show a cloud, which might mean that they actually aren't downloaded on my phone but something isn't working or efficient with iTunes Match.
Has anyone had that happen to them? Are some of my issues potentially due to the number of songs I have on iTunes Match?
