Matching 800MHz RAM to T7700 processor - will apple EFI use it?

Hi all,
I've seen a few posts on here about installing RAM.. but I have a slightly more nerdy question!
I want to add some extra RAM to the iMac to make it up to 2Gb BUT I want to match all 2Gb to the processor (the T7700 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo) which has a FSB of 800MHz.
Now when I built my last computer (a PC!) I matched the FSB of the processor to the speed of the RAM (i.e. I would need RAM running at 800MHz)
What I would like to know (being only a 4 day old Mac user!) is will the Mac EFI system recognise and run the RAM at it's full 800Mhz, or will it bottleneck it to 667MHz?
On a PC I would change the RAM speed in the BIOS settings of a motherboard to ensure the RAM was run at it's correct speed.
I'd be greatful if any tech-savvy Mac personage could help me out with this query.
Oh, also, will the RAM run at 800MHz in Vista through Boot Camp (games look guud on the ATI 2600 graphics card!)

I've just been on with Crucials online chat feature was use nor ornament - they just pointed me back to the page showing the 2 speeds of chip!
I was looking at this after you posted that last link:
http://developer.apple.com/documentation/HardwareDrivers/Conceptual/HWTechRAM/index.html#//appleref/doc/uid/TP40003031
and this:
http://developer.apple.com/documentation/HardwareDrivers/Conceptual/HWTechRAM/Articles/RAM_implementation.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40003899-DontLinkElem entID7
They say the RAM must be 667MHz compliant but do not say that 800MHz will not run at a faster speed - unless the explanation is solely because the SLOTS are only 667MHz?
I noticed this on one of those pages:
The memory controller supports 1 GB and 2 GB SO-DIMMs; other configurations are untested. Because the memory in the two slots is configured as a contiguous array of memory, when both SO-DIMMs are the same size and type, the interleaving function is able to improve performance.
So performance 'can' be improved by using a pair of matched DIMMs - it's only a shame it doesn't offer more reasoning as to why Apple says it MUST be 667MHz compliant.
I'd be grateful for slightly more clarity if any Apple Tech is listening?
Thanks in advance,
Matt

  • Will Apple ever use the AMD Trinity APU in their notebooks?

As simple as my topic sentence. I would love to see these processors in Apple products. The demos at CES 2012 were very impressing. What do you guys think?

  • I am buying a new macbook pro but i want to fit my own ram memory and solid state hard drive , will apple permit this without voiding the waranty.

i am buying a new macbook pro but i want to fit my own ram memory and solid state hard drive , will apple permit this without voiding the waranty.

yes you can do it and not void the warranty.  Those are the only hardware changes that Apple permits.  Instructions on how to upgrade the ram and remove and replace the hard drive are even included in the owners manuals for MacBook Pros.

  • Will Apple add to iTunes Match?

Will Apple add Movies & TV Shows, you have bought on DVD to iTunes Match, so it keeps these in the cloud as well?

My guess is no.  At least, not any time soon.  Fixing the existing music service should be their top priority, because right now it is not working as well as it should.

  • Will apple ask me to remove ram?

I just ordered 2 gigs of OWC ram and it arrives tommorow. I was wondering if apple will ask me to remove it if i send it in, or if they will remove it if i dont? If i send my mac in and they replace it, will they keep the OWC ram?

If you think apple will replace the computer then take it out. The replacement computer will probably not come from the depot that repairs it. Mine didn't. Just put back in what was original, that is a good reason to hang on to it and know where it is.

  • ITunes Match Skipping for months. 2 seperate apple staff promise to call back and never do!

    Dear all,
I loved iTunes match for almost a couple of years. However for the last 3 months or so what ever songs I add to my iTunes library on my iMac and then send to iTunes match will not play on either my iPhone, or iPad. I am extremely annoyed about the whole thing as I have phoned Apple technical support on 2 separate occasions and gone through all the usual try this and try that. I have even restored my iPhone and iPad but still it does not work. Strangely all songs work fine on my Apple TV's and my iTunes library on my iMac.
What annoys more than it not working is the fact that I have had 2 members of staff promise to look into it and call me back, they never do! I have had a direct email for the 2nd member of staff and even had a few replies from him arranging a suitable time to call but he didn't. I then tried to email him the other day to find that the email got an automated reply saying no such address. I can only assume the member of staff in question has left?
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE someone help. Apple staff - do you read these posts? If so SOMEONE CALL ME BACK!
For the record all devices are up to date. I even upgraded to ios8 and have even bought an iPhone 6 but the problem still occurs.
I love Apple and their products but this is a complete shambles. 3 months of a service I cannot use and my subscription is about to renew. I am a music teacher so this feature used to be great. I think I will not be using this anymore unless it gets fixed asap?
Can Apple wipe the iTunes Match data for my account so I start again and upload my library as if all brand new?
Moan over I await a response but I won't hold my breath.

I have probably spent 15 hours over 3 months trying to solve this problem.......to no avail.

  • My refurbished rMBP 15" has a stuck (white) pixel and is still under the 1 year limited warranty, can/will Apple repair it if I go to an Apple Store?

Hi, my refurbished rMBP 15" has a stuck (white) pixel and is still under the 1 year limited warranty, can/will Apple repair it if I go to an Apple Store?
I just discovered today that my MacBook has a "stuck" pixel. I read that the display has to have at least 5 dead/stuck pixels else Apple is not going to repair it, is it true? My warranty expires in 1 month so I can't really wait for 4 more pixels to die or get stuck.
    Temporary fix:
I know that this is something I can't really repair myself, but I tried some things such as changing the display resolution to it's "Full" 2880x1800 resolution and It actually reduced the size of the stuck pixel.
    Thank You,
    Etienne
    MacBook Pro 15-inch (Mid 2012) with Retina display (2.3Ghz Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, GT650M)

    Hello etienne255,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with questions concerning pixel anomalies:
About LCD display pixel anomalies for Apple products released before 2010 - Apple Support
If you suspect your display contains a high number of pixel anomalies, take your Apple product to an Apple Authorized Service Provider for closer examination.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.

  • Will Apple replace my Logic Board for free?

Sounds crazy I know. But I read a bunch of different threads on many sites saying they replace it for free and some say they don't. Let me explain why I believe I shouldn't pay to get this repaired. Since I bought my MBP I've had problems from it. When I got it I kept getting the message saying...you need to restart your computer...otherwise known as a Kernal Panic. I took it to apple , they couldn't find the problem so they replaced the hard drive for free. This didn't fix the problem but I did not feel like having to continue to take my computer to apple because I do all of my work on my computer so I really didn't the time and I just worked around it. Just recently my computer has began to shut off randomly while using certain programs such as Chrome and Apple Motion. After putting a thread on here I've learned that this is a kernel panic once again but being caused by the logic board. Now I don't know if I received a faulty computer but day one I've been having these problems. Which is the reason I'm asking will Apple repair what wasn't caused by the user?
I need to add that I love Apple and their products, I've had and have many computers and other devices from them that function flawlessly. This MacBook Pro is the only thing I'm having a problem with.
Thanks for any help that anyone one can provide.

Took me a little bit to get this posted becuase i just had another kenrmal panic, but here it is.

  • Will Apple Add an SSD?

I just bought a 27" iMac a couple of months ago. Specifications: 16BG RAM, 2TB HDD, 2GB VRAM. Can I pay Apple to add a 256GB (Which is the highest Apple allows) SSD for me? I would like to dual boot Windows 7/8 on it so I can play games when I'm bored (Skyrim). Despite what I've been told I have done my research and partitioning a dual boot HDD does NOT slow it down if done correctly and in some cases can be faster than having two separate HD's in it. I would like to move OS X to the SSD and add Windows to my HDD with all the other content from my OS X on it (I know this is a complex layout). I don’t care about semantics I just want to know will Apple add an SSD for me if I pay them to do so.

Call someplace near you and see what they can do, double-checking it won't void any warranty.

  • I opened my Mac to upgrade it and broke something near the optical bay drive. I don't have apple care, can I bring it to geek squad? Or will Apple fix it? How much?

HELP! I broke something in my MacBook Pro by opening it up and trying to upgrade my optical bay drive to an SSD and my RAM and broke a cable near the optical bay drive. I bought it from best buy and my step dad was too stubborn when we first purchased it to buy best buy care or the apple care. Will Apple fix it? Will geek squad fix it? How much would it cost? Also my battery is starting to give out before this. I have taken the cable out that connects the battery to the motherboard and that worked, but how much would that cost to? I have a MacBook Pro mid 2012 13"

Even had stubborn stepdad bought AppleCare, it would not have covered damages caused by your mucking about inside the unit.
As we are all end-users like you and not professional computer repair peple, we can't estimate prices, especially if we don't know what broke.

  • Can I use 667mhz ram in a 800mhz ram machine.

I have a MacPro1,1 and a MacPro3,1. Can I move use the 667mhz ram from the earlier machine into the "newer" machine which uses 800mhz ram.
I am going to recycle the old machine when Mountain Lion comes out and it has a lot of ram in it. Hate to lose it.

one caveat in this, you can't use 512MB DIMMs, 1GB and up.

Is it possible to put in an Intel processor, maybe change the bus /add RAM?
    thx-
If you are willing to spend money towards your problem, you are best off purchasing the most modern Intel based Mac that you can afford, albeit perhaps used or reconditioned, and run Windows and perhaps Mavericks there.
Having been a longtime user of Virtual PC on my iMac G5, I would not wish that experience on my worst enemy now that Intel Macs are so prevalent!

  • So i have a dead pixel on my MBP will apple place it if i go to the store?

Its a Late 2013 MBP and its the higher end 16gb ram model
Ive only had it a few months so its under the one year warranty, and it had like 1 or 2 really annoying dead pixels.
Will apple replace it or repair it if i take it in?

    Hi dizzyspanks,
For information about pixel anomalies such as you describe, I would suggest that you read this article -

  • Will apple add ios 7.0 for iPod 4

Will apple add ios7 for iPod touch 4g

    No
As Apple said in June, iOS 7 is not compatible with the 4G iPod.
All the iOS devices compatible (iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and 5G iPod touch) with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory (RAM). The 4G iPod only has 256 MB
