Matching PMS Color from Client

This may be a newbie question, I am a video & photoshop guy.
Anyways, a client has requested a logo in a PMS color. I know where the color swatch libraries are, but there is no library named PMS, there are tons of Pantone ones for coated, uncoated, ect.
Is there a search function to the pantone colors? They specified "PMS 192 Red". Says nothing of coated or whatever I just want to know how on earth do I find that actual color?

Ah, it took me a while to find this!  Here is a little more how-to:
From the Swatches Palette, open the drop-down menu, then....
Open Swatch Library\Color Books\Pantone (coated or uncoated, or whatever else you want)
THEN go to the drop-down menu again and select Large List View.  All the color numbers show up.  WHEW!

  • Determine closest PMS color from CMYK values?

In Illustrator CS3 is there a way to determine CMYK values to the closest PMS color? I know how to do it in Photoshop but cannot find a solution in Illy Forums, Illy Help, or from any intelligent person I might happen to know.
    Thanks to anyone!

I use un script to know what PMS values is closet to a certain CMYK,
on the other way, what CMYK is close to certain PMS, just doble click on the PMS on the swatches palete and convert it to CMYK process..
A quick way to do it, may be there is some more technical method out there..
If you wish, here you can download the script wich is not mine, dont remember the author...sorry.

  • PMS colors in Pages?

Does anyone know if there is a way that I can select/use PMS colors in my Pages ('09) documents? We have quite a few forms/documents that have been previously created in Quark. As we update them, I am recreating them in Pages, and I want the colors to be consistent with what we've had before. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Jay

I'm not so much concerned about print production issues as I am about document-creation issues.
So document preparation is nothing to do with print production?? That's new.
I want to at least be able to match PMS colors because our logos and other graphic elements are specific PMS colors, and I'd like to be able to do more that just eyeball them to get the same colors when I recreate the documents in Pages.
Do you want to match the COLOUR or do you want to print a custom COLOURANT? You will not match the COLOUR if you print a custom COLOURANT, that is, you will not match the colour of your Pantone swatch if you specify a Pantone in your document.
Surprised? Don't be. Pantone is specified for 100% solid ink, a certain tone value increase, and a certain lightness and tint of paper. If you don't print 100% solid, on the same paper, with the same tone value increase, you don't get the colour match.
If you want to match the COLOUR, first, determine and download the ICC PRTR Printer profile for your intended printing condition, and second, determine the closest process combination using the CIELa*b for the Pantone solid in a colourimetric match.
You have been able to do this for a decade with the free download of the functioning ColorPicker in GretagMacbeth ProfileMaker 4 and higher or GretagMacbeth Eye-One Match. Before that you could do something of the same with the X-Rite ColorShop software.
Adobe Photoshop has had CIELa*b data for solid Pantones for some time, too.
If you design with Pantones and save into Adobe page description models whether Encapsulated PostScript or Portable Document Format, the Pantones will be name-referenced in the page descriptions and will stay that way when placed in Apple Pages.
But whether you would want Pantones in the first place is another matter.

  • Copy color from clip

How can I copy the color from a clip and apply it to another clip?  The old FCP7 you could use eye dropper to copy color.

Yeah I know that option, but im not looking to copy an "effect," as it would replace all the effetcs on the other clip ( a probem with X).  I am simply trying to match a color from one other clip to a new one.  Specially I have several different "whote" backgrounds which are all different shades of white and I want to match them.   I used to be able to just use the eye dropper clicking one one part of the clip and then applying it to another clip, like Photoshop.

  • How do i match a color exactly from an .eps file?

How do I match a color in pages exactly from a jpg or eps file?

The Color Selector has an eyedropper tool, the magnifying glass next to the color field at the top. Click on it and anywhere on screen to pick up a color.
Why not just open the eps in Pages, which will convert it to a .pdf?
.eps/ai/pdf files may have spot colors and they can't be matched exactly in Pages but will print through from the .pdf file as a separate plate.
jpegs do not have an "exact color", they are made up of a cluster of different colored pixels.
Also there will be differences depending on whether the color you are selecting is RGB or CMYK.

  • Using hue/saturation adjustment layer to match color from another image?

How can I use a hue/saturation adjustment layer on image 'A' so that it matches the color of image 'B' please?

    Depends, John.
If you're able to create a reasonable selection via Color Range, feathered masking, etc, then by matching one specific color, you'll also be correcting for that entire range of hue. It might have been needed anyway...or you use a color filter to correct the whole image, if it's needed.
As we all know, each image presents its own specific challenges and solutions.

  • Why are my PMS colors different in CS3 & CS6?

I originally created a label in CS3, and just had to make a new one a different size. When I did the new art in CS6, the PMS colors are way different! I basically copied and pasted the old art into the new file. I have replaced all PMS colors, but they still do not match the old version. What's up?? Can anyone shed some light on this? The original version (in CS3) is on the left and the new art in CS6 is on the right. Thanks!

Thanks Monika, but, OMG, I feel a headache coming on! =(  So, is it better to stay with the new Pantone Plus colors, or convert to the older version? How will this effect reprinting of jobs, if the client makes changes and I resave the file in CS6? Will the color be different now, if saved in the Pantone Plus? Maybe I need to do more reading up on this!

  • Extract Pantone color from the PDF using c#.

hi i have an requirement to extact pantone color from PDF. So i had decided will  go for acrobat.dll or illustrator library to get pantone and other color from the PDF.Can you please help me out how to proceed and get pantone color from PDF using c#.thanku in advance

If the PDF has Pantone colors in it, you can use output preview to see it. If you want a Pantone equivalent of a CMYK value you can do this:
In Illustrator, make a cmyk swatch of the desired color, open the Color Guide panel (Window > Color Guide), then press the Swatch Library button in the panel's lower left corner and choose color books> Pantone+solid coated. Clicking the first color in the Color Harmony section (the Base Color) at the top of the panel will add the closest PMS Spot Color equivalent to your Swatches panel.
There is often no exact 4/C match for a spot color, but this method will get you in the ballpark.

  • PMS colors show as CMYK when using Device N

I have just upgraded to the CS3 Suite recently and am trying to send a PDF through the system using Device N. I use Quark Xpress 6.5 (haven't been able to talk the boss into converting to InDesign yet) and so when I have a project that uses PMS colors, of course I choose Device n when I create the PDF. When I send the PDF through, the PMS colors have separated into CMYK. I use the Creo Distiller Assistant that's supposed to help with color seps. We've got a computer to plate system so this really creates havoc with our impositioner. This version is Acrobat 8 Professional. I was using Acrobat 7 Pro and it worked fine with the Creo distiller assistant and all. Can someone tell me what's going on?

I checking the colors 1st in illustrator, than in indesign with separations preview (so far so good), and then in acrobat with output preview... and here is where it goes wrong... both for certified as well as uncertified.
I have now found the problem, but am unsure how to deal with it in the future (color management hell) : something to do with our synchronized profiles that basically say: adjust to match current color settings, placed content:keep existing assignments. I don't know how clear this is? If iI disable the profile so I can override the existing assignment (which must have originally been to preserve appearance rather than numbers) it all works out.
I suppose it is an internal agency issue as to what to do. The idea is too stick synchronised as to provide consistent color, but there all these hidden profiles stuck in files from who knows who, when or where.
If you can follow, and have any suggestions,?

  • Figuring out the PMS colors

I have a logo that I would like to have made into a sticker by a printing company and they are offering either to print it with their 36 stock ink colors at no additional charge or with custom PMS ink matching for $30.00 per color.
    1. How do you determine if the colors being used will work with the 36 colors they have available? Is there a way to do this?
    2. How do I figure out what the PMS colors are for the ones in my logo?
    Thanks!

1.) Most of the "sticker" print vendors will have their inhouse spot color ( like the 36 you mentioned ). But, your standard logo has only 2-3 colors ( i.e., FedEx, UPS, Xerox, IBM, etc., etc. ). If however, your logo uses more than 3 and they are process color builds, then color matching may depend on their ability to match a specific Pantone Spot color ( which they are charging $30. for a custom ink mix ). If your logo is constructed using 4c process inks, they may be better off printing your logo using 4 process colors ( C-M-Y-K ).
They should have a color chart that shows the 36 colors available for no charge. You should print your logo and try to visually match your color to their color. For instance, to simplify it, lets say your logo consists of two colors similar to a MasterCard logo of Red + Orange. Just a hypothetical. You could go to your local printer and have a hard copy proof printed and then it's just a matter of matching your Red to one of their Reds, your Orange to one of their Oranges. If you can't access their 36 colors, it will make this process much harder and/or they may not have a Red or Orange that is close to your Red and Orange. Then, they will have to use a custom mix ( $$$ ).
2.) You could find the pantone Spot color match from your local printer. Some of them have special lightboxes where they can visually match your Red + Orange to specific Pantone Spot color swatch book. You should be there to help find the color you think matches the closest. You could also contact the originator of your logo file and see if they have the colors. There is a way to find the Spot color using Photoshop if you have it available.

  • 2 files with exact the same PMS color look different

I was working on a print project for my company and all files are created in Illustrator CC. Here is the confusing part, in this logo color file I found from the company inside files, the PMS color code actually matches the CMYK color code, and they look exactly the same on screen:
But on all the files I'm working on, the PMS color looks washed, when using the convert button to convert PMS to CMYK, the code looks different too:
Is there a file color setting I need to change? Besides illustrator, the PMS color in Photoshop cc and InDesign cc all look wash out.

The Color Mode of the swatch only impacts how the the color appears on your monitor. The important thing is that the Color Type always be "Spot Color" regardless of the Color Mode when you're dealing with files for print. If it's set to Spot Color, then exporting the file to film will have a single color pass. If it's set to Process Color you'll get 1-4 color passes when exporting depending on your CMYK values.
For the company's branding guide, you have both color options depending on how the logo will be printed. If you had something that included a photo, then you would want to use the CMYK version of the logo because you're already going to have CMYK values from the photo. Using an additional spot color just for the logo then makes it a 5-color job, thus increasing the cost. If you were printing something that only used black for text and also included the logo, then you would use the PMS version as this makes it a 2-color print job.
In some circumstances you don't have an option of a CMYK break of a PMS color, such as metallics and fluorescents. Some companies only print their logo in a spot color despite having it as part of a 4-color print just due to how a CMYK version of their logo appears. Not every PMS color has a 100% accurate CMYK break. Most frequently the CMYK version is dull compared to the PMS color simply because the gamut for CMYK is not as diverse as the full range of PMS colors are.

I believe the acl applied to the client group is backwards. It should permit traffic from the internal network to the clients pool.
To confirm you can open the Cisco VPN client statistics(after connecting) then go to the route details tab. You should see there the networks that you should be able to reach from the client. Make sure the correct ones are in there.

  • Book Module Lightroom 4 -- can I use a color picker to pick a color from a photo to use as the backg

I am trying to match a background color for a page in a Blurb book using the Lightroom 4 Book Module.  Is there any way I can use the color picker to pick a color from the photo to use as the color for the background and as the type color?  I see the color box for these situations, but the color picker only seems to work with the color array that pops up and doesn't go to the photo.  Any suggestions?  Am I overlooking something very obvious?

    It works for me.
The usual Lightroom way: click the eyedropper onto the color palette first, then hold and drag to your photo to sample color.
