Matching sample rates of capture preset and tape

After upgrading to FCE 3.5, I don't have the dropped frames problem anymore and the audio is in sync but every time I'm done capturing a clip from my camera I get an alert saying the audio sample rate of captured media files don't match the sample rate on source tape.
So, I gather that the sample rate capture preset must equal the sample rate of the tape. So I need to know two things:
1. How do I set the sample rate capture preset? I've looked everywhere I can think of.
2. How do I find out what the sample rate of my tape is? I've looked in my Sony FX1's settings and can't find anything.

Hi(Bonjour)!
Your FX1 sound settings can be found in audio menu, select 16 bit if you shoot in DV format.
Audio settings for HDV is not adjustable.
Your sequence and capture settings have to match the properties of your captured clips.
Select DV-NTSC 48kHz in easy setup. (for DV)
or Apple intermediate codec 1080i60 for HDV.

  • How to adjust sample rate in "capture preset"?

I'm having to recapture footage shot some years ago on my old Sony VX1000 using my Sony Z5U. I'm working on FCE 4.0 (OS 10.4), Easy Setup at DV-NTSC and capturing by "capture now." I'm getting a warning saying that my sample rate of capture does not match sample rate of source tape and advises me to ensure that my audio sample rate of the "capture preset" matches the sample rate of [my] source tape. Browser tells me that my sequence and my clips audio rate are both at 48 KHz, but my sequence audio format is 32 bit floating point, and my clips are at 16 bit integer. How do I access capture preset and synch capture rate?
    Thanks

    48KHz = 16bit
    32KHz = 12bit
Can't be both at the same time.
Most cameras come set to 12bit as the factory default. On the Canon miniDV cams like your ZR500, go into the menus for *Camera Setup > Audio Setup > Audio Mode* and you should be able to toggle between 16 bit and 12 bit audio.
You want to film your videos using 16bit audio if at all possible. If you have done so, then you should use the DV-NTSC easy setup in Final Cut Express (not the DV-NTSC 32KHz easy setup).
If you inadvertently filmed your video using 12-bit audio then you will need to use the DV-NTSC 32KHz easy setup in FCE.

  • I'm trying to record in Adobe Audition and it keeps saying my the sample rates for my input and output devices do not match.  How do I correct this?

I'm trying to record in Audition and it keeps saying my sample rates for the input and output devices don't match.  How do I fix this?

I finally have communication between the ISA One and Audition. I moved the optic cable to another SPDIF on the computer and from the SPDIF to ADAT on the ISA One and it finally agreed that the communication was at the same clock speed. The audio was not intelligible so I moved the optic cable back to the original configuration and I can record voice that is clean.

  • Mismatching Audio Sample Rates Upon Capture

I recently bought a cheap MiniDv JVC video camera, and I am having trouble capturing video and audio together in FCP 6.0. The capture seems fine, but when I finish an error pops up which reads: "The Audio Sample rate in your presets does not match the one on your source tape." As a result there is a delay between the video and audio tracks that creates huge amounts of extra work.
My video camera captures sound in 12-bit format, and from what I understand that usually corresponds to a 32MHz sample rate. I can't find any 32 MHz presets in the Easy Set Ups or other menus, the system seems geared entirely towards 48 MHz sound. I've messed around with some different combinations of settings, but so far to no avail. Any help someone can give me will be much appreciated.

You might want to duplicate the capture preset for DV/NTSC 48k and change the audio to 32k.
    Then try that.
But I'd also change the JVC's audio settings to record in 48 while you're waiting. Should be able to do it... cheap or not.

  • Problems with audio sample rate when capturing DV50

Hello from Spain, I have a problem when capturing DV50 source footage: I setup my sequence settings and capturing settings like always, DV50 codec and 48k sample rate for audio, then when the capturing process finish the result is a file that contains audio to a non-48k audio sample rate, then video and audio don´t match. The sample rate is 47945 and other similars, not always the same, sometimes 47214 sometimes 48000, and there is no rules...My capturing device works ok in other computers and the footage has been capture ok in other Mac...I don´t know what happens.
    Sebas, kind regards
    G5 Quad   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hello!, first of all thanks for your reply. Yes, the camera is the same, the problem is on my computer, I have discovered a solution: first I capture the audio, only the audio, and then the video, only the video. After this I soncronize the two separate files on Final Cut timeline. It´s a slow process, but I am really desesperated. I don´t know what happens, I few minutes ago I have captured a 30 mins. video and the sample rate of the audio was 42.145k (???). It´s a crazy thing...

  • How do i ensure my sampling rate is a constant and correct (@250Hz) when using AI Sample Channel vi

I am running a VI that samples 2 channels using the AI Sample Channel vi within a for loop (executing equal to the number of samples i require), i then calculate the difference between the channels. Within the for loop i use a chart to displays this difference in realtime.
On exiting the loop the data is converted to an array, which in turn i then convert to a waveform (using dT as 0.01 as an arbitary solution at the moment). The waveform is then compared to limits using the limit specs and limit testing vi's.
There is also other code displaying graphs from the previous iterations of the VI.
My question is how do i control the aquisition rat
e so that i know that the AI Sample Channel vi is sampling my data at a set rate (250Hz)?
I have tried to use some of the hardware timed exaples supplied by NI to no avail. They can't give me the single point output required within the initial for loop for the real-time display.
    Any solutions welcome!!

How about buffered acquisition? You can let your DAQCard acquire the number of samples you require instead of doing it with a FOR loop. Using a FOR loop means that you are software timed, which may as well be untimed since it's about as deterministic as the weather in Florida.
Look for the "Acquire N Scans.vi" example.
If you want to do this the RIGHT way, use continuous acquisition. Start your acquisition and keep doing AI Read in a loop. Also include your porcessing and display functions in the loop. Just make sure your loop runs fast enough to keep up with your acquisition. At 250 Hz, you should have no problem.

  • Sample rate of capture audio

I found I can change sampe rate capture audio into 8000Hz by using dsound://8000. But the sound is still 16bit and stereo.
Anyone know how to change it into 8bit and mono?

I think you are right. Jmf has to play with those dll files in windows. But I have already installed the performance packs. I just got the information in jmf log which says the soundtrack can't change because it has been specified to RAW type. So I think it probobly due to the way jmf play with capture audio device. Once the audio format has been defined to capture audio device.(dsound://) It can't be changed.
I am developing a audio one-to-one chat applet which is suppose to run on windows at this stage. I will consider cross platform solution later on.
Anyway, I found an alternation which is using dsound://8000 and dvi/rtp. It can generate a 8000Hz, 4BIT MONO sound for me. It fairly good. However, I am still thinking about how to cut it down. Might be 4000Hz.... Anyone konw what it sounds like? Is it still acceptable for voice transfering?

  • FCE Capture-sample rate error

After capturing Digital8 footage off my Sony DCR-TRV310, I get this error.....
"The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does not match the sample rate on your source tape. This may cause the video and audio of these media files to be out of sync. Make sure the audio sample rate of capture preset matches the sample rate of your tape."
So far, in spot checking the media it seems to be OK, but I'm anal about errors! I couldn't find the audio sample rate for the camera/tape in the sony manual, any ideas? Also were do I select the audio sample rate of capture preset, even if I knew the tapes sample rate? Or is this nothing to worry about
    Thanks, Schooner

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Usually, camcorders allows to set the audio sample rate to 12 bit (32 kHz) or 16bit (48 kHz).
The audio sample rate for DCR-TRV 310 can be set to 12 or 16 bit. See page 57 in this user manual:
    http://www.mediacollege.com/equipment/manual/sony/camera/dcrtrv315.pdf
FCE easy setup allows to select DV-NTSC 32 or 48 kHz for sequence. This settings apply to capture session too. The message you've got means that the audio sample rate on tape doesn't match the sequence audio format.
This problem may give a drift synch between audio and video.
First check the item format for video clip in browser. The audio sample rate should be 32 or 48 kHz. Note it and select the right setup in easy setup dialog. Create a new sequence and insert your video clip.

  • Sample rate off the audio input and out devices do not match - what to do?

This is fundamental, I know, but nevertheless I can't find my way around it. I get this error message when trying to recor:
Sample rate off the audio input and out devices do not match

Use the appropriate operating system or audio device control panel to adjust the sample rates of the input and output devices to use the same settingt.
I have defined the sample rate to 44.1/16 bit in accordance with my inbuild soundcardt.

You're sure you have set BOTH the input and output settings to 44.1 16 bit?

  • Determining DV tape audio sample rate

I have DV tapes of "archived" final edits recorded on to mini DV tape using two "early" (late 90's) Sony DV cameras with some segments of the same tape recorded with 48k audio and other sections with 32k audio (on the same mini DV tape). I tried to capture the footage into FCP 5.1.2 using a Sony DSR-11 deck and a G4 1.42 GHz dual processor w/ 2 gigs RAM, Radeon 9800 Pro video card, Mac OS 10.4.8
Everything seemed fine until I got a message after capturing a 3 minute clip using a stock FCP 5 NTSC preset with 48k audio; the message stated the "audio source rate and capture sample rates did not match & footage may be out of synch" - the captured clip played back perfect. The DSR-11 did not display the DV tape's audio sample rate; I put the DV tape into the camera it was originally recorded on and "16 bit" displayed on the camera's LCD screen.
I tried capturing the same footage using FCP 4.5 installed on another drive in the same computer, and got no warning message re: audio sample rate. Just to "be sure", I created a custom capture preset that included 32 bit audio and captured the same clip using FCP 4.5 with a preset for 32k audio - no warning message, and everything was perfectly in synch. Everything was in synch for ALL the captured clips & the audio sample rate in FCP for captured footage was either 48k or 32K for each respective preset.
The dilemma: how to be certain what the true/original audio sample rate is.

"audio source rate and capture sample rates did not match & footage may be out of synch"<<</div>
    William,
The message itself seems to be a bug that started with FCP 5 - most users that receive this message have reported that there is NO actual problem.

  • Audio Sample Rates Don't Match

I am capturing a MiniDV tape via Firewire to a Final Cut project
    w/ a Capture Preset of DV/DVCPRO-NTSC w/ 2 channel 48KHz 16-bit
    audio sample rate
and when I check the Item Props on said clip in Browser it says the same info
I've toggled both Mono and Stereo on Capture Settings, but after capturing,
in all cases, I get the same warning message:
Audio Sample rate one your captured media files doesn't match the sample rate on source tape. This may cause it to go out of sync. Make sure the capture preset matches sample rate of tape.
    Please advise, thanks

    I am capturing with a Sony MiniDV camera w/ a Firewire400 cable,
and the tape is a Sony MiniDV (DVM60) Premium tape
I am unsure of the camera that shot the footage, which is from 1998
and was one of the earliest MiniDV cameras (a large one)
I tried both Firewire Basic and Log and Capture
    but the problem still persists

  • Matching Audio Sample Rates In FCP

When the message comes up, "Audio sample rate must match sample rate of source tape (Log and Capture window) what exactly does one have to do to ensure a change to the correct .. ?

What I would really like first is for someone to point out the steps on the DSR11 remote for selection of both video and audio. I'm having to remember the three different selection places as I'm doing it "blind" and I can't see the results of my inputs whilst enabling it. The only confirmation I get is the Capture screen showing the SVHS tape playing if I get it right but that doesn't answer the question of how come I don't get a TV monitor screen showing up when then playing the captured material. That, as well as no audio which could possibly be due to a wrong audio preset in the DSR 11 due to my lack of visual. The video setting has to be right for me to get a Capture screen on my desktop. Normally, when starting FCP, the TV Monitor screen changes to a colour indicating connection.
With frustration at a peak, and just in case I'm in some way unhappily missing the right Capture preset, I'll bow to anyones step by step workthrough on the procedure.

  • Green & Pink horizontal Lines? and Audio Sample Rate? Help, Please!

I have just successfully completed one short film. I'm believe I'm doing exactly the same as before but I'm running into problems. Used a Panasonic PV-GS300 camcorder with mini DV. Then a Sony DSR-11 deck. When I capture there are green and pink bars within horizontal lines over the image in the viewer. When I end the capture I get the message 'the audio sample rate of captured media files does not match the sample rate on you source tape. Video and audio out of sync.' The captured film clip audio rate is 48.0 KHz, the audio format is 16-bit integer, the audio is 2 Mono and the tracks are 1V 2A. Any suggestions, help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry about that, I'm away from my FC system, so I can't refer to it. You should choose DV-NTSC in Easy Setup as a starting point, then if the audio settings of your footage are different from 48kHz 16-bit, then you can easily change the capture settings to match.
