Matching up between pdf and indesign

How can I match up a table chart in an indesin file with the one in the pdf to check if there's any error on the indesign one?
(which would be like proofreading done by a computer)
The design of each table chart is totally different from each other; the pdf file is actually extracted from a excel file.
I came across this problem while doing an artwork for a brochure.
I had a specificaton table chart for the product in an excel file and I made an indesign file based on it,
but because the proofreading was done by a 'human' not a computer, there were several errors unfound until printing thousands of it.
And I had to print the whole brochure again.
So I thought if there is a function that can match up between the two,
there won't be any problems or mistakes like this afterwards.
Does this kind of function exist? or would there be an alternative solution?

This script acts as an overlay proofing method that may help: http://kasyan.ho.com.ua/compare_two_documents.html

In Microsoft Word, can you create new style names (both character AND paragraph) same as you can in InDesign? and if those names match those in an InDesign template you are flowing them into, will the text come in STYLED like they are set up in InDesign?

Anne-Marie Concepcion has produced a comprehensive tutorial on using Word and InDesign together. I would highly recommend anyone using these two applications to have a look at it:

  • Export an InDesign file to PDF and InDesign freezes and quits

I keep trying to export an InDesign file to PDF and InDesign keeps freezing up and quitting. This is the first time it's done this, I have never had a problem before.I recently added Suitcase Fusion to my computer and wondered if this was the cause, or if there is something else wrong.

Try disabling the suitcase plugin and see if it continues (you'd probably have other problems, too, though, if it's the culprit). Often it's a bit of bad text or an image. See Adobe Community: File Crashing on Output - printing/PDF/other for lots of troubleshooting tips.

  • Performance, minimum bandwidth, thumbnail previews for PDF and InDesign Files with web content viewer

    Hi,
We are considering using DPS with a web content viewer for large PDFs and/or InDesign files. The client using a web viewer might have very limited bandwidth (some as low as 256Kbps). We ask:
1 - How well does the web viewer perform with very large PDFs and InDesign files  (500 MB+) with limited bandwidth? Does the file stream in chunks and the PDF shows as soon as the first page or two are available, with the rest loading in the background, or does the entire file come down in one part and then shown?
2 - Can PDF and InDesign files support thumbnail previews? For example, one image per PDF page and user can scroll forward and back.
Your thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    -Stephen

    Hi Stephen,
The way the web viewer works is that it converts the PDF/InDesign files to PNGs along with additional HTML assets. Assets are downloaded as they’re ready for a given page (e.g. first, page 1 is filled with its assets as they become available, then page 2, etc), so a reader wouldn’t need to wait for the entire article to load. The next few pages are also loaded in the background, so the reader wouldn’t be likely to notice lag as they flipped through pages to the next page after reading the current one. So the lag will depend on the size of an individual page.
For your question around thumbnails, the web viewer does not load a preview image so the reader would need to wait for the assets I described above to load.
    Hope this helps...

  • Difference in text rendering between PDF and Mars?

I was doing some testing with Mars and stumbled upon what
seemed like suboptimal text rendering. Because it was quite subtle
and I wanted to make sure there was an actual difference, I did a
little comparison between PDF and Mars rendering.
    See this image. Can
    you see a difference?
I'm still not sure whether there is an actual difference, but
I still somehow got the impression that the upper example (PDF) is
a little more polished then the lower one (Mars). Are different
rendering paths actually used? Will it remain that way?
My SVG for Mars was very simple:
    <text font-size="10pt" x="20" y="20" fill="rgb(0,0,0)"
    font-family="F0">aex</text>
The PDF was produced with MS Office 2007 and Microsofts Save
as PDF plugin (also at 10pts). The font is Gentium.

The difference *IS* subtle, but you're right -- there does
appear to be a perceptible difference between the two samples.
Without making an in-depth study, it's hard to say whether we
can do anything about this. Even though they're both opened in
Acrobat, the rendering path for a Mars document is *VERY* different
from the path for a PDF document, and many of the events along the
chain are out of the control of those of us writing the Mars
plugin. There are some text-quality issues that I'd like to take
care of in time for our next release, however; perhaps I'll be able
to address this particular issue at the same time.

  • Problems with PDF and InDesign CS3

    Hello,
We are experiencing new problems exporting InDesign files to
    PDF.
To summarize, though our largest workflow is to create files
for offset printing, we also deliver our work to PDF for mounting
on a website so our clients can download directly from the web. Our
new problem is Transparency Effects, and creating a PDF that will
both have a high quality (or resolution), and be a small file size.
We are working with multiple page documents (24 to 48 pages),
and would very much like to work with InDesign Transparency
Effects. However, after spending much time testing a variety of PDF
types, we are finding there is a radical difference between quality
and file size. I was curious if anyone has had these problems, and
if there is a simple answer. InDesign is an incredible program that
allows us to design on the fly with Transparency Effects, but, if
we are going to experience these problems, we will have to
    eliminate these wonderful tools.
Can you help me or lead me to information online that will
    help.
    Thank you,
    Lain

  • IBookAuthor supports importing PDF and indesign files?

    Hi  everyone!
There is any possibities to import a PDF or Indesign application in the iBookAuthor to re-edit and we add interactivity widget. Also we can get the Actual view as per the source.
    Thanks,
    Muzammil

    Not directly, no, sorry.
iBA allows 'Insert' of WORD or Pages Chapters.
Other content would require text copy from the source and paste into an existing iBA template with rework as required for matching original layouts.

  • Matching, syncing between iTunes and iPhone

I am "lucky" to be one of the new iPhone 5 owners, after switching back from two years with android. Part of the reason for my switch was iTunes Match, which has been a constant confusing dissappintment.
After several iPhone restores, lengthy phone calls to Apple support (who had no idea what to do), I am still stuck as to what is going wrong with my iPhone and its syncing between itunes match and my local (mac) itunes.
Essentially, I understood (both from reading online and apple support) that I could turn match OFF on my iphone, and then sync playlists accross from my Mac. Then, I could turn my iPhone's Match ON, and it would warn me about replacing the library, but it would allow me to play my synced playlists offline, and stream the rest of my cloud music. I was somehow using this method for a few days, before today's sync changed things again. (I didnt change settings)
At this current stage, itunes match is enabled, and my computer has just finished syncing with my iphone. My iphone says it has no locally stored songs, the computer says my iphone has 19 locally stored songs (with match enabled.) I have tried various ways of syncing, enabling and disabling match on my iphone, and no combination i have tried has successfully synced my data accurately.
Side note: Apple also didnt know why after the second sync between my iphone and mac the mac song playcounts changed dramatically. (ie: from 120 plays per song to 700+ plays - And i hadnt played them obviously).
Note: All software is up to date. Screenshot here http://cl.ly/image/0y162Q2C1c2w shows status after fresh wifi-sync. (incorrect values for free space etc)
    tl;dr
I am trying to sync playlists from my mac to my iPhone 5, and then have my iphone stream/(download) the rest of the music I dont sync across through iTunes Match.
It seems there are some bugs in iTunes/iOS 6 to do with syncing. iTunes displays different information about my iPhone, to what is in the iPhone's settings menu. EG: Itunes says there are 19 songs on my iphone, my iphone says there are no songs on it.
This sounds like a bit of a ramble, but its one of the more important issues/problems i am having with the new iPhone. Hope someone can help, or has advice!

What you are trying to do is clear but iTunes Match / IOS 6 does not work that way.
You can sync playlists from computer to iDevice using the options under the music tab for your iDevice on the computer.  This will provide a local copy on the iDevice of each Song included in each Playlist selected for sync.
With iTunes Match / IOS 6, as Songs are played from the iCloud (ie not those already downloaded in playlists) IOS 6 does in fact 'download' the Song to a local cache.  In theory this cache should be managed by IOS 6 such that it does not overload your iDevice memory - Apple have not chosen to share exactly how this operates.
Given your notes above would suggest starting from a refresh restore on the iPhone 5 with all synchronisation performed afresh and iTunes Match switched on.

  • Differences between PDF and TIF

Printing a file to TIF or pdf as a bitmap image format gives me WYSIWYG
However, when I print the same file in pdf format, part of the data on the right side of the page is missing although the print preview looks good.
As far as I know, in the first case, the printer is dealing with raster data whereas in the second case, the printer is dealing with vector data.
I would like to know more about the differences between raster and vector printing and I would appreciate if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this.
    Thanks in advance!

This has nothing to do with the pdf specification, but a function of the
software running, the OS, and the printer driver. If part of the data is
missing the problem probably lies with the application software or the
printer driver. If you are using Acrobat to create the pdf, please
repost in that forum, that is where you will get the most help.

  • Word pdf and InDesign

I have a cllegue who sends me pdfs created in Word 2011. When I cut and paste the copy into InDesign eac word comes up as an item and list each with a para return. When running a test on the doc it tells me it has no tags but will still not add them when requested.
Anyone else had a similar problem ?

If you have Acrobat, have you tried saving the PDF file as a text file so you can copy and paste the text from notepad (or BBEdit on Mac)?

  • PDFs and InDesign spooling but not printing

The printer is an Epson SP1400 connected via USB to a G3 iMac running 10.2.9 (ya, I know).
It is shared by 4 other Macs in the office of various configs, 3 running Tiger and one running Leopard. All have the same problem.
When using Adobe CS3 apps, files from Photoshop CS3 or Illustrator CS3 will print over the network to this shared printer. However, PDFs won't print from Acrobat Reader 7 or 8 or Acrobat CS3, nor will InDesign CS3 files print.
The same PDF files opened in Preview do print to this shared printer.
All other programs (Word, Excel, mail, browsers, Preview, TextEdit) all print to this shared printer.
Some of these PDF files are older archive files and are known to have printed when the operating system was Panther.
The permissions have been repaired on all machines and are repaired on a regular schedule along with the other routine maintenance. The printer queues have been reset and reloaded. The latest Epson driver was downloaded and is in use on all 5 machines. Epson blames Adobe, Adobe blames Epson, they both blame Apple. But no answers.
I will try reloading my CS2 apps to see if Acrobat and InD work there.
    Meanwhile, any clues?

I have the exact same problem, except with a different printer... a Brother HL-4040cn. I am running CS3, connecting USB and also running 10.4.11. Any InDesign or PDF files briefly spool and then get dumped into the 'completed' files bin w/o printing. Any other app works fine.

  • Colour discrepencies between illustrator and InDesign

    Hi!
I am a semi-amateur CS user, and am trying to create branding and a brochure for my own new business I'm starting.
I have drawn a logo in illustrator, which is a single solid colour, as well as some extra branding motifs which are a collection of simple silhouettes in a further 3 solid colours. I've selected pantone colours for all of these as I understand this will ensure consistent printing in future.
However I'm now creating out brochure in InDesign, and when I use the same pantone colours they look considerably different than they do in illustrator, and have different CMYK/RGB values. I'm placing the logo and motifs into the brochure in native .ai format.
As a workaround I changed the inDesign colours to process, using the CMYK values from the illustrator logo, but even then the RGB values appear slightly different. However at least all the colours look the same - until, I export the brochure to PDF, when the inDesign colours look fine, but the logos I've placed from illustrator change colour drastically??
Is it pantone causing the issue? We are a tiny web-based company and are only ever going to be printing business cards and a small number of brochures, perhaps occasional headed letters (not using pre-printed headed paper) so maybe it just doesn't matter and I should stick with ordinary CMYK colours?
I am using CS6, and have synced colours in Bridge.
Any help would be massively appreciated as I've exhausted Google and am helpless as to where to turn next!
    Thanks,
    Natasha

I've selected pantone colours for all of these as I understand this will ensure consistent printing in future.
Using Pantone Colors for a CMYK job wouldn't necessarily ensure consistency for future printing—to get the same color appearance the printing conditions have to be the same or the values have to be adjusted to accommodate the new printing conditions. An extreme example would printing the same CMYK values on glossy paper on a sheetfed press and then on newsprint, the printed color would change in appearance.
What do I do if I'm working on images for web, or if i want to take illustrations etc from the CMYK brochure and change them to RGB for the website?
The displayed appearance of CMYK values—mixes you make yourself or specified Pantone mixes—depends on the document's assigned CMYK profile. Change the assigned profile from US SWOP to US Newsprint and you'll see what I mean (Edit>Assign Profiles).
So, if you are designing the printed materials for one printing condition, the document CMYK profile needs to be correct for that destination. In that case you can get the RGB equivalents (or hex values in CC2014) of your InDesign swatches via the color picker. If you want sRGB values make sure the document's assigned RGB profile is sRGB. Here my document's assigned CMYK and RGB profiles are the default US SWOP Coated and sRGB and the color picker is giving me the sRGB and hex equivalents of US SWOP's 50% magenta.
In the case of images, if a CMYK image was saved with its profile it can be accurately converted to any RGB space. In Photoshop you can use Save for Web to convert a copy of the CMYK image to sRGB or another RGB space, but if you are saving for web without an embedded profile sRGB would be best.
Alternatively you can leave your images as RGB in the layout and let the conversion to any CMYK destination happen at export or output. If you do that you have to watchout for color gamuts—RGB colors that are not printable. Turning on Overprint Preview shows you how RGB colors will change when they are eventually converted.

  • BOBJ 6.5 - Infoview - Decimals Changing between PDF and HTML view

    HI,
We have an issue with report generated in Webi 6.5.with figures shown to 2 decimal places. When viewed in HTML the figures are displayed correctly e,g, 7.8. When viewed in PDF format, the decimal point moves on random figures e.g. 8.7
This is such an issue the customer wants to turn-off the ability to save to PDF!
    Thanks in advance
    Roy

    Hi Ted!
Thanks for the reply and suggestions.  I don't know if there is a different version of the viewers folder that I should be using but I am using the ones from this folder:
    C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Common\4.0\crystalreportviewers12
That said, I didn't see anything amiss in Fiddler and when I looked in Firebug at the script portion where it was constructing the FlexParameterUI panel, I could see where it was capturing the report parameter names and prompts.  I decided to rip out all the parameters out of my report and voila, it loaded up fine in the viewer.
I then added a new string parameter giving it a simple short name (Test1) and, initially, I did not use this parameter in the report.  It loaded up in the viewer just fine too.
I then added the parameter to the report header and I was back to the same problem - it would not load in the viewer and the error was the same as the subject line shows.
For the record, I am using Crystal Reports 2008 v12.2.0.290
So is there some other crystalreportviewers12 that I should be using?
    Kind regards,
    Evan
