Material attributes in PR & PO

Hi,
I need to specify certain attributes of material in PR and PO (say the RPM and HP for a motor).
I am planning to use the classification concept to map these attributes, i.e., I want to make two charateristics named RPM and HP and assign these to the material "Motor". The default values of these attributes will be maintained in material master classification view.
My idea is while creating PR/PO, user will be able to see / edit the values of these attributes.
My question is: Is this idea ok. Can there be a better way to map the requirement?
I tried with material class type 001, but not able to see these char values in PR /PO. Any idea ?

Hi Dharmendra,
Here is the solution,
1. Enter the Material specifications in the "Purchase Order Text" in the material master.
2. Whenever you create the Purchase order or Purchase Requisition, the PO text will automatically copied in the Purchase document.
3. The advantage is that you can see and edit this data at the time of creation and change of PR/ PO.
For the first time you will have to upload the entire specifications of material in PO Text tab by BDC.

Is it possible to display the material attribute value based on cost center value. I mean for some cost centers I would like to display the value of other characteristic in place of material attribute. I am trying to create a query on MP.

Hi Adi,
In Rows, Create a struture. Using New Selection, You can restrict the New Value to the cost center (Restrict again on those some cost centers) and material. And for this New Characteristic, you can have a attribute.

Copying one material attributes to another material thro' FM or BAPI

Material attributes in separate dimension?

Hi BW experts,
As a new member I have been looking for a similar topic but unfortunately I can't find anything on it so I was hoping one of you could help me out.
I want to redesign our stock/movement cube due to performance issues. One step is to have the 0MAT_PLANT as a separate (line-item) dimension as opposed to a charateristic of 0MATERIAL. I assume this will help a great deal since 0MAT_PLANT has over 8.5 M entries which does not really help to speed up any queries. (fact table has about 40M records)
Another thing is that I would like to create a separate dimension with 0MAT_PLANT navigational attributes like service level, ABC indicator etc. These fields are now in the material dimension and I reckon these nav attr blow up the dimension massively since one material has multiple service levels and ABC indicators. Can I just drag in these field into a new dimension, say Material Attributes and still have them in there as master data?!
In other words, can I create a dimension with only 0MAT_PLANT navigational attributes and what are the consequences of this?

I do not think it will be a good idea to physically put the master data in the cube in my case so I have to keep it as master data.
Can you explain to me what happens when I take the following steps:
I take out the 0MAT_PLANT characteristic (which has 8.5M records) and create a separate (line item) dimension for it and I leave the NA for 0MAT_PLANT (like service level and ABC indicator) in the Material dimension.
Would this have any impact on the number of records to be read when I run a query for plant, material and ABC indicator?
Doesn't the query still have to read the 8.5M records which are now in the 0MAT_PLANT dimension instead of the 0MATERIAL dimension?
So does creating a separate 0MAT_PLANT dimension have any impact on query performance?
I do understand you point about the indexes and that might work.

Material attribute assigned to a DSO field

Hello All,
A Material attribute needs to be filled with a field from the DSO and should not consider the value which it actually holds in the InfoObject Material.
Is it possible to assign this attrbiute without adding a individual field in the Cube?

Write a routine in Transformation of Info Object to read data from active table of DSO. To ignore the value from source, nothing to do except not to map.

Material Attributes - cFolder

Hi All,
I could access Material Attribute file through webDAV and make the changes for additional material types..
There are many fields maintained in Material Master in R3 as Class and Characteristic values..
Is there any way to export these values too to cFolders when we export Material, BOM from R3

We are trying to map Agile PLM functionality here.. Ultimate aim is to export BOM as PDX package. For this
1) We are exporting BOM from R3 to cFolders using CFE02
2) From cFolders , extracting as PDX
When I went though customizing we have "Specify Field Mapping Profile for PDX Package Import and Exp"
Inside 0SAP_CFX Profile for Master Data Item , there are many XML attributes like
- Code of Lifecycle phase
- Product line
-Unique Label of Item
-Make or buy decision and many more
Where can we map these attributes in cFolders?
As the BOM's are exported from R3, we thought we will put the above attributes as CHARS in Classification

How to get Valuation class in Material master?

Dear all,
I want to have valuation class in my report and i want to take is as a material attribute.Actually i have check all the attribute of material master but valuation class is not there. i am having valuation class as a master data as individual . How can i get the valuation type in the Material master?I need it in Material master only.

Dear venki,
To change Valuation class you must have zero stock in the current period, and zero stock at the end of the last period, plus no open PO lines . flag for deletion all open PO lines,

Material Master Change History

Some of our business users fail to or incorrectly modify certain fields for materials that are changed from manufactured to purchased and vice-versa. Can you help me to find a way to extract material attribute changes by company code, division, a list of materials and the option to choose certain attributes to display the old and new values. I can't currently find a way to drill down this far, as some materials have hundreds of changes. Thanks.

0material master data - attribute updated - not reflected in all providers

Hello,
An attribute of 0material was populated with data. Previously it was blank.
Since 0material is available in the dso's and cubes, the attributes come in as navigational.
I am a bit confused. The DSO which loads to the cube is not reflecting the 0material new attribute when displaying data. The cube which is loaded from the same DSO is reflecting the change to the 0material.
I did not think that data needed to be deleted and reloaded?
The attribute change run is part of the process chain and should update both dso and cube?
Example;
Cube
Cust 1
material abc
new attribute bingo
net value 100
DSO which feeds above cube
no data when selecting the same criteria above?
However, when extracting only material and new material attribute in the dso, the attribute comes up.
I am not sure if I am being clear. Thanks for any help you can provide.

figured out the issue - I went back and saw the dso nav attributes were not selected. Should have noticed it sooner.

BW-BPS Attribute variable selections issues

Hi Marc / Gerd,
I am using an attribute variable on material that has a lot of filters for values on material group, material type, EANUPC, and even a date such as created date / product start date (reference 0date).
The function /layout has issues if the selection has no material choosen and I know we needed to create exit variables on a previous project (someone else did the ABAP and I set out the spec) to do material group / category selection based on material attribute and the material group variable.
Any other good options or work arounds since we cannot use variable in attribute variables?

Hi Marc,
1. I checked the layout configuration and the config was transported okay to QA so the field that I want to input does not have compariable checked and it should be open for input.
2. there are no data slices yet.
3. Validation check - that might be an issue. The BW loads originally had some master data not loaded in BWQ and have some mapping not occuring as it should and I have been asking for them for the last 2 load cycles. I was told all missing master data have been since loaded and I need to ask for a load of the transaction again but the BW person is waiting for some missing mapping. Also we had to document enabled some infoobjects.
But the category we are using for the integration testing should have all the master data correctly set up since I checked on it end of last week. Do I have to set up some system settings for the document server? Do I need to force it to regenerate after some transports?
The master data we used for the 2 systems are different since the DEV has very little master data and some were manually maintained or uploaded via flat files. The BW QA has a lot of master data since R/3 QA has been refreshed recently.

Query with a cube and infoobj attributes

Hi Gurus,
I have a cube CUBE1 and it contains Infoobject IO_ADDR. Attributes of IO_ADDR are address details. Can I display cube details as well as address details in a Bex report without creating infoset or multicube etc? Pls guide me if it is possible..
What would be the best method to do this?

It is possible !!!!!!!!
Just check whether the Add Attribute is Nav or Display Attribute.In any case u can get that into report.But if it is Nav Attibute then can drill down based on that Address Object.Else u can change it to
Nav att and then include it in the report.
Say if it is Material and MAt Group is Attribute then
In the Left hand side of the Query when u drill down on MAterial,Material Attributes,U can find Mat Group.Just Drag as drop the Mat and Mat Group.For Display Attribute it goes Hand in HAnd.
For Nav Attribute,it will display as Material_Matgroup in the Drill Down.just drag and Drop.

Using attributes in a Query, doesnu00B4t work!

I have implemented an infocube 0SD_C03, and i have my material attributes filled in the 0MATERIAL characteristic, but when i use them in the query, the don't appear.

I'have done everything ok, create the new objects, for our material classifications, create the transfer rules, update roles, infosources, adding the 0material characteristics, put the new attributes as navigational, and filled all with the data necessary, but i have now idea that the master data have to be activated just in the end!!!!

0FIAR_C03 and material

Hello Gurus!
I'm totally new to SAP BW.
So far we have a standard 0FIAR_C03 cube for reporting on AR data.
We have folllowing situation
Organizational unit PC (profit Centre) is attribute of material data (in MARA table). So in sales, we can analyze data through material attribute PC. And this (analyze data with PC attribute) we would like to do also in AR (accounts receivable) through 0FIAR_C03 cube.
So basicaly, our requirement is that this cube (0FIAR_C03... or some other AR cube if easier) includes also material data or PC attribute/dimension.
Any idea, solution about this??

   You need to enhance structure. You can get profit center and segment frim FAGLFLEXA table.You can use the following code in CMOD

Adding Alternative Unit of measure as part of attributte of material

Hi gurus,
In our source system each material has alternative unit of measure which contain info on converting the base unit of measure (CAR) to MT and PAL.
I need to add this info as part of material attribute
e.g.
Material "A" 10CART = 1 PAL & 100CART = 1MT
This information captured in MM table "MARM" with material code as the
As part of 0MATERIAL_ATTR , i need to have additional field that capture the info as below
CARTPAL = 0.1 (1/10)
CARTMT = 0.01 (1/100)
Please help to advice on how to enhance the extractor to cater the above requirement.

According to me you can enhance the 0Material_attr to bring the required information from ECC.
But before enhancing anything ask func consultant or business below ques.
1) will these unit entry will get created in MARM for any material at the creation of material or it will get updated later on
2) will this unit value get change for any material during its entire life
If any of above que ans is yes then how wud u manage in transaction data if unit get changed.
For that u need to apply feedback concept in transaction dso.

Field selection for Material Type

Hi,
When we create the material type we are assigning a field ref. in Define Material attributes screen, and when we are creating the industry sector there also we are assigning a field screen reference.
No when we creat a materail with MM01, and if Field ref. is different in Industry sector and material type then which system will follow when we create the material it will be ref. to field selection in Material type or industry sector.

Zafar,
When you talkout Material type is basically controls the properties of a Material like important control fucntions and attributes.
That is inturn, like Field selection, Special material type, Type of Procurement, Stock (Qty &Value) updation, User departments and Price control. But,
where as Field selection is control key which consits of some setoff fields which are subjected to a perticular Industry sector like, Plant &Construction, Mechanical Industry, Pharmacuetical Industry, Chemical Industry, etc. In this case field selection is different from Industry to Industry, but in some cases field selection is common for the similar kind of Industries or Industry sectors.
And the Field selection is subjected to the Material type as well, that means each material type can have their own Field selection (it is named with a field selection key 3 char sap code for field selection).
Comming to the Creation of Material master record : using MM01 ( create material -general)
here, you need to select the material type and industry sector --> then you need to choose the relevent user departments and subsequently plant, sloc.etc.
Note: when you are creating the material in the above fasion, you need to enter the relevent data which is w.r.to the user departments which you have choosen, and those inturn reflect from this control data ( attributes and important control functions as I said is the definition of Material type).
And this is how a material is created, wether it can be a Raw material, Semi finished Product or Finished Product, etc.
Note: There is an option to create your own Material Types, but SAP suggests to use standard Material type when you create material master record, unless otherwise a special requirement comes from your client is from Specific Industry sector or if running a special kind of business which is not yet dragged into the SAP R/3 system.
