Material Barcodindg in trading industry

Hello Folks !
Is anyone in this industry, managing inventory with barcodes? i am not talking about the documents, but the MATERIALS.
as per my knowledge theres no standards avaialble in the SAP for storing materials under barcodes. how are you folks managing the scenario? please share any knowledge you have.

Thanks for taking interest in my thread.
as u have said the barcodes are for unique identification and not for the price. here price is not at all a problem. the client sells the same article to 10 different customers at 10 different prices.
But my client is having inventory managed using barcodes already, i mean storage and movement. the products carry warranty , so to track when and to whom was it sold and for all other such reasons , the client wants to incorporate the same in SAP.
we are having tough time generating, printing and storage in tables and making MIGO with these barcodes and thereafter at every movement type, where products are moved from one place to other, barcodes needs to be enabled.
well, barcode will only contain details of products like material description and vender description. where it is fetched from the P.O, which is printed as barcodes....

1. use third party orders.
( vendor delivering the goods to a customer of a customer).
The parts requuired by your customer, are not manufactured by your organixation, these procurement is done by your vendor. this is purely trading business.
Third party orders are also called as Direct shipment or Drop shipment,

Some of the material groups for construction industry is follows
Cement, Steel (May be two as Structural steel, Reinforcement steel), Aggregates (like sand, blocks, flyash, gravel, metal etc), Admixer chemicals, Plumbing material, Sanitary material, Scaffolding material, Doors, windows & ventilators, Paints, Pipes & fittings etc.

Usage of material variants in automotive industry

Dear Experts,
I want to understand the usage of material variants in an automotive industry (car or two-wheeler). Please provide the config settings required and also the usage of super BOM & Routing (if required) with the complete flow. I would prefer if someone can share the scenarios in a two-wheeler industry.

1)We have about 9 characteristics. If we need to create material variants, around 200 material variants will be required to be created. Is that the best option?
2)If we select the first characteristic value, we want only those remaining chararacteristics to be available for selection which are related to the first characteristic. Likewise, we want to have control over the selection of each characteristic, till all the characteristic value selections are made in the sales order. Is it possible that a pop-up comes with the available characteristic options for that combination/s.
3)Can we make a super BOM for items selection? How can I control the selections from the super BOM? Can it be done via Object Dependencies? Routings are same for all the options.

I am going to implement SAP R/3 in process industry where i get raw material from farmers.I have to accept all raw material from surrounding villages because it's a government rule.So its necessary that all farmers should produce well quality yield. For that they must follow standard procedure to grow their crop.Is it possible to plan this using SAP PP?

Relationship between material type and industry sector

Hi experts
when using t-code mm01,there are two fields material type and industry setor in screen.Is there any relationship between material type and industry sector? I want to know if user be able to see the material type related to particular industry sector?

Hello
There is no direct relationship between the material type and the industry sector.
The industry sector is used only for field sttus maintenance (fields in display/optional/requierd entry) in transactions.
We will assign seperate field reference groups to industry sectors and deopending on how we configure the field references, the fields will appear for the materials created for that industry sector.

1. Define Industry Sectors and Industry-Sector-Specific Field Selection (transaction OMS3) -> assign a field reference to field selection
2. Maintain Field Selection for Data Screens (transaction OMS9) -> define a specific field selection for a field selection group (for example, depending on industry sector (the field reference appears on the lower table control).
Like the material type, the industry sector also has a control function. When you create a material master record, the industry sector determines:
Which screens appear and in which order
Which industry-specific fields appear on each screen
The industry sector you assign to a material cannot subsequently be changed. In Customizing, you can define new industry sectors and maintain the field reference for field selection control according to your enterprise-specific requirements.
Most data in the material master record can be maintained directly by the user. But some information is automatically updated by the system. When you enter goods movements, for example, the system updates the stock and consumption data. Statistical information, such as the date of original creation and that of the last change, can be invoked with , with the quick-info text Information on material.
Some data in the material master is used for information purposes only, for example, description, size, and dimensions. Other material data has a controlling function in an application. For example, the MRP type controls the MRP procedure and the price control indicator determines which material valuation procedure is used

Can we use any indutry sector for any type of business. How to choose this.

Hello Udaya,
Branch of industry.
The industry sector groups together companies according to their activities (for example, plant engineering and construction, mechanical engineering, the chemical industry, and the pharmaceutical industry).
Table-driven program support is provided according to industry sector; for example, for the selection of data fields on-screen, for the sequence of the screens, and for the allocation of a material to a material type.
Industry Sector :
Key that specifies the branch of industry to which the material is assigned.
Use
When you create a material master record, the industry sector you specify determines
which screens appear and in what order
which industry-specific fields appear on the individual screens.

Use of same configurable material in trading environment

Hi Variant Config Gurus,
I have following situation & need to recommend Customer.
- Customer is using Configurable materials in Manufacturing plant already. They cannot use material Variant as there will be too many permutation. Sales order entry will pop-up characterisitc assignment screen which will geenrate & save ORder BOM. Sales order stock of FGs will ensure all costs are posted correctly.
- Now need to set up Trading entity in another country which will enter Sales order for same products but they will purchase these products from Manufacturing plant. PR/PO for these product will be generated upon sales order entry with vendor as manufacuring plant. It is buy-sell relationship without any inter-plant /intercompany process.
My question is , should we extend same configurable product to the trading plant & ask them to enter characterisitc value or create seperate FG material master/Material Variants in trading plant. My concerns is , there will be no BOM in trading plant & hence characterisitc list that pops-up willl be partial . We have many subassembly having 300 class type & those characetrsitc also pops up while entering sales order in manufacturing plant.

Problem in traded material to G/L Posting

Hi,
We have 2 Traded material's in 1 Billing Document.
Problem in that 1 traded material entry goes in Traded G/L account and another goes in Manufacturing Account. If material's are Traded, then why it goes in Manufacturing G/L Account.
Is there any configuration issue??

Hi,
Please check the same with your netweaver administrator(basis consultant). He would have the user name and pwd for the SAP support portal. You can view notes in SAP support portal.
SAP clearly says in the note that it is because of program error and you need to implement the correction notes.
Do involve your FI consultant and Basis consultant to resolve this issue.

Industry sector should be Electrical inplace of Chemical Industry.
