Material description in Unicode ECC 6.0

Dear expert,
we have SAP ECC 6.0 (Unicode) on Oracle 10.2
If we logon using sapgui in english, can we enter any material description language as chinese, arabic, cirillic, etc. ?
Is this right?

...and maybe as additional info:
configure your SAPGUI to not use the default font "Arial monospaced". That font doesn't contain all characters for all languages. Switch your default font to "courier new" to avoid any problems.

Material descriptions in chinese language is not transferred to SRM

Hi All,
We have an issue in transfering material description in chinese language from ECC to SRM.
We are on SRM 5.5 and ECC 6.0
I've set filter in R3AC1 with Table name "matk" anf field "SPRAS" to take care of language.
This works fine for all language except chinese both for initial and delta down load.
Any help is greatly appreciated

Material description in the SUS vendor screen in MMSUS scenario

Hi All,
We are working on MM SUS scenario with SRM5.0 and ECC 6.0 as the backend.
We are sending the PO and SAR from R3 to SUS. When vendor logs in to create a POR and ASN, he is not able to see the material description rather only material code is available in the screen.
Same thing for the business object BUS2231 ( for ASN) we are able to see the same in BBP_PD in GUI.
What could be the reason?
We are using standard BSP pages for SRMSUS service.

Material Description in Chineese language

Dear All,
I am trying to upload language key ZH - Chineese and material description in chineese language by bdc and Lsmw from text file. But after uploading, text is showing in some other format which is not chineese. Please give me some suggestion to overcome this problem.

Do I need to logon in ZH language to do this?
My system is Unicode, so I would like to connect in english (or italian) language, and after enter material description in chineese language without logon in chinese language.
After I will nedd to enter in arabic language, so I suppose that it is equal.

Material description limitation on accept only English language

Dear All,
Is there any user exit / program which not allow user create material with Non English description in MM01?
But we still need unicode support for system.
we are facing export material problem with external system out from company.

All descriptions you see in additional data are stored in table MAKT field MAKTX. this table is language dependend.
Based on your logon language SAP will present the logon language in the description field that can be seen above each tab in material master maintenance.
IF you restrict the material description to english only, but allow e.g. German as communication languae in vendor master, then SAP will give you a message that the description in German language is not maintained and will not allow creation of the PO.

Material Description getting truncated in LI04 print

Hi All,
When we print Physical Inventory document in LI04 and using standard report RLLI0400 the system takes on 20 char in material description and truncates rest of the description.
However SAP given Note 538759 - Modif.note to extend material Desc. in report RLLI0400, which is a modification note to allow a 40 char description to be displayed.
We have carried out the correction as per this note still system is printing only 20 chars, did any one used this note, or any subsequent notes are required. Pl let me know.
We are using ECC - 6.0.

Material description change not possible after MM12 &MM13

After unicode & patch upgrade , i am not able to change material description in BAsic DATA1 of material master .This changes are done by running MM12 & MM13 tCode. Can anubody help me why i am not able to change material description of material after running MM12 & MM13

MM12 & MM13 are scheduled changes it will not change immediately , Pl.s scheduled the materials with proper chnages then check the changes after schedule date .
Could you explan me why you are using these codes for Description changes ? is there any specific requirement

Missing item category & material description in sales order screen

Hi all,
We have upgraded SAP from 4.6C to ECC 6.0 version. In the sales order screen (create, change & display mode) the item category & the material description cannot be seen at the item level in the ECC 6.0 version. The same appears in the 4.6C version. I have done the following checks:-
1. There are no screen variants/ transaction variants/layout settings in both the versions
2. The config settings for item category are intact in both the versions.
3. In the item detail view i am able to see the item category.
4. There is no change in the functionalty as i am able to save the order & complete the Sales cycle upto billing in the ECC 6.0 version
Any ideas as to what could be the problem & how to fix it. Pl suggest as it needs to be fixed urgently.

Have you checked the table control setting,which is avialable in the sales order screen at extream right.In this check in administrator button if Those fields must are marked as invisible.

How to integrate Material Descriptions with Custom Language codes

I am working on the materials integration - ECC to C4C.
The material descriptions have additional custom language codes (Z1, Z2, etc) to store additional descriptions.
1. How can we adjust our integration in C4C to take those additional descriptions ?
2. Specifically, can we even create custom language codes Z1, Z2, etc ?
3. Will the integration (mapping, idocs, webservices) need any adjustment for extra language values to pass along ?

Hi Tim,
in the integration ECC to C4C only ISO language codes are supported. Furthermore custom language codes cannot be created in C4C. In your case you have to store the additional information in the C4C material master using extension fields.

Hi,
For a single material code maintaining multiple text in the same language is not possible,
this contradicts the basic principle of consistancy.
Howevery you are free to do R&D, if sucessful please let me know.

Material description is not showing in VL10H

Hi All,
I am running the report VL10H and facing a problem, step which is being followed by me, given below:-
1.Put plant and delivery date and execute.
2.click on label Edit -> Show/hide delivery.
3.Chose the field u201CMaterial descriptionu201D from Layout for output field.
Now here I am seeing that all the materials in this report, having SD Doc i.e. delivery has been created,
Material description is showing and remaining materials which have no delivery (showing in green color),
Material description is not being shown.
Can anybody suggest me regarding this?

I tested it, and all my sales order and STO order items are showing a material description.
I do not have any items shown which have already deliveries created
About which description are you talking, as I can see 2, one at item level and another one at header level ?

Material description VS Purchase order Text when creating a PO

Hi Gurus,
When creating a PO for a specific material, I have to print a purchase order text different from the material description.
To do this, a specific text has be added to the material master data in the tab "Purchase order Text" with the italian language maintained.
But, when i start to create a new PO for this material, the short text that is shown is retrieved form the Material description and not from the Purchase order text that has been added before.
How can I do to have the purchase order text shown in the PO instead of the common material description?

1) Could you please confirm me that this is the functionality of the standard SAP System? That means that in case we want to put the purchase order text in to "short text" we would need to create an ad hoc development, right?
2) In case we print the PO with the purchase order text added for the material, is there any point where we can find this information for the material, or we will see just the material description from the Material Master Data?

SAP Script : to display the material description in two lines

the material description field is been passed from my driver program ..into the script..
Ex: &gs_final-maktx& ..
There r a number of other fields to be displayed ...after this field ....
Is there any option to split the 'Material description into two lines'?
Ex: at present it is :

I mean that there a number of field berfore and after this field......in the same line
I need to jst split the materia description ...& make it to appear in two lines.....!!

How to prevent error message for material description in MDG material detail screen, when user click on check action

Dear Experts,
I have a requirement for making material description as non mandetory in change request view of mdg material screen.
I have done that using field usage in get data method of feeder classes, but still message is displaying.
This message 'Material description is mandatory is displaying with check action only, but not with save or submit after i anhance field property as not mandetory.
How to prevent error message for material description in MDG material detail screen, when user click on check action.

Hello Sukumar
In IMG activity "Configure Properties of Change Request Step", you can completely deactivate the reuse area checks (but will then loose all other checks of the backend business logic as well).
You can also set the error severity of the checks from Error to Warning (per CR type, not per check).
Or you provide a default value for the material description, e.g. by implementing the BAdI USMD_RULE_SERVICE.
