Material Ledger (COML) - Revaluation of Consumption

When we revaluate the consumption, does it really update the production orders where the material was initially consumed or its just an accounting effect in the form of jvs. If itu2019s the case of not effecting production orders, how would I do the variance analysis with respect to my actual costs (after revaluation).
Thanks
Chris

Hello Amol and Udo thanks for your replies -
Now i understood revaluation happens for single level consumption but still have some doubts.
"If the revaluation is not updated in production orders, how does variance analysis makes sense - because all through the period, material issues would have been at the standard prices only. Can you please eloborate on Material level variance analysis.
can the material issues to production orders be considered as single level consumption?. I would have determined periodic unit price after considering the variances from production also (prod orders) meaning all oders are settled. If I revaluate actual CO object (Cost center /production orders) what happens to the additonal debit/credit due to revaluation."
Thanks

  • Material Ledger WIP Revaluation OBYC

    Hi
Can anyone please give example or documentations regarding OBYC for transaction key WPM (WIP from Price Differences ) and PRM (Price Difference from Exploded WIP) ?
And what the accounting journal would be like for those 2 transactions?
    Thanks

    Hi,
There are two new transaction keys for Differences From Reduced WIP:
WPM     WIP from Price Differences (Material)
WPA     WIP from Price Differences (Int. Acty)
    During the WIp Revaluation:
To build-up of new WIP (material):
PRY   PRV   KDM   KDV   ->  WPM
To Build-up of new WIP (activity/business process):
         GBB(AUI)                    ->  WPA
The Reduction of WIP and the rollup of the differences to the product are posted in two steps:
Step 1: WPM/A -> PRM/A:     The values are based on step WIP Revaluation
Step 2: PRM/A u2013> PRV/KDV: The values are based on step multi level price determination
    The PRM and PRA are:
PRM  for Materials Differences of cancelled WIP (Materials)
PRA  for Activity Types Differences of cancelled WIP (Activities)
I hope this clarifies a bit,

  • Material Ledger activation (COML) - multiple plants in single company code.

    Hi -
Material Ledger activation (COML)- multiple plants in single company code.
In large mfg plant - process industry (proposed to dived into number of production plants), Matrial 'a'  is produced in plant 'a'.Material 'a' is input to procude matl 'B' in plant 'B"..so on and so forth.
We are activating Material Ledger (COML) for actual costing purpose. Question -During multi level price determination, will the variance of lower level materials ( produced in lowerlevel /other plants in our case) be rolled up to higher level materials (in a different plant). please let me know if it really works, if yes what are the guidelines (if any) .
    Please advise ASAP.
    Thanks

    Hi Chris,
from a business point of view there is a  difference that you might take into consideration: The valauation level will always be on material and plant combination. That means, the division into several virtual plants will usually lead to different actual prices for the same material in each plant. That might happen for example when you carry over stocks from last month into the current month in one plant, while the other plant has only receipts from the current month.
That might me desired, but often it is not. If the mutiple plants are in reality only one location it might be hard to explain why the prices differ between plants.

  • Reverse Material Ledger Process Order Revaluation

    Hello,
I have settled process orders for Material Ledger and revalued them.  More postings have been made after this has occurred.  How do I reverse this process?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
    Joe

    Hi
Go to the following path in SPRO:
Controlling -> Product Cost Controlling -> Actual Costing/Material Ledger -> Actual Costing -> Activate Actual  Costing. Double-click on "Actiavte Actual Costing" and change the indicator from "2" to "1".

  • Closing Entry Run without "Revaluation of Consumption Checkbox"

    Hi gurus,
I have a very important problem and I need to close the period as soon as possible.
I did closing entry run for an individual material without the Revaluation of Consumption checkbox. CO object revaluation is active for the consumption alternatives (Both for CO and FI revaluation). We see normal postings (with checbox filled) with profitability (CO-PA) object.
What are the postings that ML did in both FI side and CO side. When I looked at the posting price differences are distributed for each single profitability(CO-PA) object in CKM3 view. Also related amount sent to ending inventory (both in CKM3 view and with FI stock account postings).
Under this conditions, COGS account are posted still with standard price rather then actual price. Am I right. So, for the correct result, should we post the related amount (actual - std price difference X sold amount) to the COGS account?
On the other hand, how will be the CO-PA posting at the end of the period. As you know the actual prices are taken from ML and COGS accounts are posted with standard prices. Therefore, CO-PA COGS amount will not be actual amount. Am I right.
    Thanks in advance.
    Ahmet

    Hi,
I mean system has two different kind of postings, one of that is FI posting (legal) and the other is CO posting with cost elements (statistical like cost allocations). I run the step Consumption revaluation in CKMLCP and price differences distributed in CKM3 view. But as you know that actual postings are done in the closing entry step and I do not check the box of revaluate consumption in the closing entry parameters, actually price differences are not posted to consumptions rather CKM3 view changed.
Therefore, COGS account posted with srtandart prices rather than actual prices because we did not checked the "revaluate consumption box". In order to fix the situation (actual-standart differences) should we post the related price difference amount to the COGS account.

  • Material Ledger,Revaluation Production Cost Center ,Standard Cost

Hi, I have a problem with  revaluation of production cost centers.
Firstly,  production cost center expenses are settled via activity types onto the production order at the end of the period. However,  CKMLCP revaluate cost centers after the settlement because of using standard price. So cost centers at the end of the period have some amount.
As a result we can not find  actual price for production orders.
If I use standard cost in order to consume on cost centers, material ledger revaluates again this cost centers. I dont want this condition. Because this cost center is settled to other cost object before closing.
    Thanks.

  • Material ledger activity rate revaluation account determination modification

    Scenario:
    SAP ECC 617
Material ledger activated with activity rate revaluation (i.e. cost center over/under absorption posts to ML and not to production orders)
Standard SAP setup has PRV transaction key used to post both multi-level price differences to inventory and to capture the offset to the cost center clearing entries (GBB-AUI) causing the values to get comingled in the same account
    Question:
For reporting purposes I would like to determine a unique account for the activity rate revaluation entries.  There is no relevant general modifier available for transaction key PRV. Is it possible and practical to modify table T169A for a specific value string / field name combination that represents this material ledger transaction?  If so, what is the combination?  Or will this cause major issues with ML processing?
I'm trying to find a creative way to fill this gap without account substitution.

    Hi Eric,
    This is an interesting one.
Modifying value string might be an option but in my opinion is quite a serious "brain surgery" on the system :-).
You may want to try another option.
In SPRO -> Controlling -> General Controlling -> Organization -> Maintain Versions
for version 0, Controlling Area Settings, Settings for Each Fiscal Year in tab Price Calculation there is field Revaluation.
One of the options there is 'Own business transaction'. With this option posting to sending Cost Centre resulting from actual activity price revaluation will be posted with different Business Transaction (although same secondary cost element as original activity allocation).
In reports you can separate postings based on Business transaction.
It definitely works for Activity Update 1 (revaluation of production orders).
I'm not sure if it works for Activity Udate 2 (no revaluation of production orders).
Please let us know the results of your investigation.

  • Material Ledger : Actual Cost settlement to Consumption Accounts

    Dear CO Experts,
We are aware that when we run CKMLCP, all variances (in the Price Diff GL Account) due to Material Prices flutuation, diff in Standard & Actual Cost of Production, etc. would finally get settled to Consumption or Stock Account in its appropriate ratios.
Consumption Acount GL is a Cost Element with Cost Category as 1.
There can be cases, when there are diferences in Production Order, due to fluctuations in Prices or Actual consumption is more than standard consumption.
When a Production Order is settled the difference is posted to Price Diff Account.
When a Material Ledger (Actual Costing) is executed, Price Diff Account is targetted to be Zero. The Price Diff is then splitted in Stock & Consumtion Account in its appropriate ratios.
    Main Question :
Since, Consumption Acount GL is a Cost Element with Cost Category as 1, what shall be the CO Account Assignment Object, when the ML value is settled to Consumption Accounts.

    hi merchant..
       1. Price diff between stnd and act is initially goes to PRD a/c through OBYC setting at the time of GR/Invoiceing/Issue if mat is set as S&3.
       2. In case of mat set as V&2 idially there should not be any diff but may arise some small amount due to "no or less stock qty" at the time of invoicing.
      3. When CKMLCP is run these price diff & order settlement diff splitted to cons and stock as you mentioned.
    Now your question :
" Since, Consumption Acount GL is a Cost Element with Cost Category as 1, what shall be the CO Account Assignment Object, when the ML value is settled to Consumption Accounts"
Cons GL is cost element cat 1 for capturing mat mov for Issues to orders/cost centres, oth co obj for primary posting at stnd price.
Now at the time of CKMLCP run you revaluate the materials and price diff are splitted to cons & stock and goes to mat to calculate act cost (stnd +/- prd).
I think this will give you some light on your issue.

  • Revaluating COPA COGS with Material Ledger values (KE27-B0 curr type)

While attempting to use transaction KE27 to revaluate COPA with material ledger's cost component structure, we are getting an error for the B0 (Operating Concern Currency) records.  The error (KE 435) states that "Costing Key ML1 does not exist".  I have defined this costing key and it appears to be working for the Company Code (curr type 10) currency records.  Does anyone have any idea why I am unable to restate the Operating Concern Currency records?

    Hi Thomas,
The system posts the difference between the original values of the line
item and the new values in a new, separate line item, but in the same
value fields. To avoid the error message KE435 you have to define for
the costing key a value field for actual costs for your operating
    concern in customizing :
Profitability Analysis  -> Master Data  -> Valuation  ->
Set Up Valuation Using Material Cost Estimate  ->
Define Access to Actual Costing/Material Ledger ->
Costing Key for actual Cost Estimate  ->
Val.Fld Allocatn for Periodic Moving Average Price (total cost)
That is necessary even though you defined already value fields in
Cost component structure (cost component split) in customizing :
Profitability Analysis  -> Master Data  -> Valuation   ->
    Assign Value Fields (transaction KE4R)
The program expects both entries, one for cost component total cost
and several for cost component split. If there is a cost component
split defined for material the valuation will distribute the share of
costs to the value fields according the definition.
Only for material without a cost component split the program will
assign the costs to the value field for total costs.

  • Cost of goods manufactured vs COGS+ Material ledger

    Hi Experts,
My company is implenting Material Ledger. They want to see the actual cost of goods manufactured. We are able to develop the actual cost of goods sold in COPA. The required report is to show:
1- Direct material used at standard + variances (price + usage) to give the actual.
2- Direct labor (standard + variances = Actual)
    3- Manufacturing overhead ( standard + variances = Actual)
Attached excel file is showing the requirement.
Your guidance to develop this report by any means (Report painter, BI, other).
    Regards
    Ahmed Zain Hassan

    Hi Ahmed / Ajay.
    1. In order reports KKO0, you dont see the revaluation of ML, as you said Consumption and Activities are revaluated at  Material level, and as far as i know, theres no way to add  records that represent the revaluation.
    2. The easy way to have a Order Report revaluated at actual cost is with LIS(Logistic InfoSys), creating a Z infostructure (eg copy lis S027) that store consumption and activity QTY, and a user exit  that read the actual cost of consumed materials (depending if this is V, S2, S3) and activities and revaluate. In LIS, there are standard way to "re-post" or repopulate the infostructures. This LIS can be reported with the standard functions (ReportPainter, quers on SQ01), or create a Z tcode that show the info stored in the way you want. Problem: Not all know how to customize LIS, and also you need code in the exit.
    3.  In my country (Peru), there are lots of companies that develop a Z Kardex valuated at actual cost (because, is a legal requirement), and also create Zprograms that calculate the order at actual cost (indeed, i create this reports twice). Its a bit complex, but not impossible and depends on custo EG if you have multiple valuations, you need to write code in order to get the infor for this specific valuations.
    4. About COPA, you can post to copa the Actual Cost Component Split calculated by ML. In this CCS, you can identify the Labor, Direct Materials, and overheads.  You have 2 options, You can post the delta to the original field or have an aditional field that store the difference. This stuff is done in KE27, i see 1 example in the SCN (i guess i bookmarked). Its important to understand you dont have the detail of the delta per consumed material, just an agregated value.
    Here is the link
    http://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/display/ERPFI/KE27+Periodic+Valuation
    5. There is a new ML DrillDown report functionality. Indeed, i couldnt spend time analizing the solution (my test system is with EHP5 and dont plant to upload the OSS), but i guess this is the future. You can look for info with tcode KKML0 in the marketplace, also check this oss 1639462 - ERP accelerators: enhancements in ML drilldown reporting
    My questions:
    What you want?
+ Order Report, i mean Cost detaild per Order? The Actual CCS por order?
+ Material Report? I mean, the monthly average of a Fert, and its CCS ?
+ a PA Report, that show Sales (Incomes), and Costs per matiral , split by Direct, Labor and OverHead?

  • Material Ledger Closing

    Dear Gurus,
While material ledger closing using CMKLCP,i need clarification for the following process.
    1. Single/level
    2. Multilevel.
    3. Revaluation of Consumption
    4. WIP Calculation
    5.Post closing
    6. Price update.
can anyone explain about the above process outcome, what is the difference between material ledger WIP Calculation and Production  order WIP Calculation.
While price update for price control material S, we need to re run cost estimate or it will update the new prices.
    Appriciated for valuable inputs.
    Ramesh.

    Hi Ramesh .
Hope you understand clearly the purpose of standard costing and why we use Material Ledger .
Standard Costing is based on a pre-determined /derived prices for a period/year and all costs are caputed on the basis of the standard Cost . Goods Issues/Receipt , consumption all are at standard cost.
COGS GL Account is at standard and all the inventories are at standard ..
Difference between standard and actual costs are captured as variances in different GL Account . Mainly we have two variances... price variances ( at the time of purchases ) and usage variances at the time of production ..
Material Ledger is a seperate module.. where it calculates the actual costs . Variances are rolled back to the consumption accounts ( which is at standard )  to derive the actual cost . Actual Cost = Standard Cost + Variances .
    1. Now  Finished Material is made of Raw Material and  Semi-Finished Goods . ...When we calculate the actual costs of finished product .. we can find out the actual costs of raw materials and semi-finished goods. ML will find out the actual cost of raw material , semi-finished goods and finished goods. This concept is know as multi-level determination ... In Single level.. only one level of material cost is computed as actual.. not rolled back to the lowest level.
    2. Revaluation of consumption during ML run means .. the COGS ( which was at standard earlier) is now being revaluted and becomes actual..
    3. WIP Calculation calculates the WIP costs on actual.
    4. Post Closing Step will put the new GL entries.. where variances will be nullified and COGS and inventory will become actual.
    5. Price Update is optional.. you can make the actual costs computed as standard cost for the next month..
Production Order WIp Calculation = Actual Qty X Standard Rate
ML WIP Calculation =  Actual Qty x Actual Rate
Please revert back for any further clarifications

  • Material ledger and standard cost estimate

    Hi Gurus,
When standard cost estimate is done in a scenario, where  material ledger is activated, does the entire stock get revaluated andl post a credit in my P/L? Is it possible  to keep my inventory(FG and SFG) at periodic unit price ie at the actual manufacturing price over a longer period say 3 years? Please fill this gap in my understanding.
    Best regards
    Vimal

    Hi Vimal,
Material ledger uses the standard price as 'preliminary price' always during the current month, independent of the question if a new standard price was estimated and released.
But: After period end, when the actual price is calculated the posting will adjust the inventory and P/L accounts to the actual price, with posting date in the recent period.
That means if you have a material that was manufactured once and then consumed over a 3 year period, and during that period you calculate the same material in a standard cost estimate with changing results, that would mean: Looking back at any month during the 3 years the consumption and stock values will be valued at the actual price of manufacturing. But during the currently open period it will always be valuated at the price of the last released cost estimate.
I hope I understood your scenario correct...
    Best regards,  Udo

  • Material ledger accounting entries

    Dear All,
i need material ledger related all accounting entries. I am confused with some entries.please do the needful urgent.
    regards
    K S Rangarajan

    Hi
Material ledger/Actual costing updates the MM master at actual costs at period end.
Let us give an accounting entry by way of an example
    Beginning inventory= 10 KG at $10= $100
    Goods receipt=15 kg at $11          = $165
Total value         25 KG at $265 (unit price =10.60)
However Inventory is valued at $250 because of Price control indicator S, thus there is a price difference (Dr) of $15
On revaluation at period end, Dr Inventory $15
                                               Cr Price difference $15
This is a simple case. Add to that exchange fluctuations, Invoice value resulting in price difference, etc. Assume a Goods issue of 12KG in the same period, it will be initially valued at $10, however on material price determination, this price difference of  $0.60 per unit is assigned to consumption as well.
    Hope you understand better

  • Material Ledger Multiple Currency

    Hello,
We have  a problem with ML - multiple currency.
I am working in a retail company and they dont have product costing. they are using material ledger only for multiple currency.
but they never run ckmlcp. $ is company code currency and EUR is group.
here is the problem, we bought something for 15 $ (10 EUR) and after sometime the currency rate changes and when we tried to sell or transfer the material for 15 $ this time system calculates the euro side as 11 EUR. we dont have a problem with $ but our COPA reports with EUR shows this 1 EUR as loss or revenue ?
    to make it short
    buy for    15 $ (=10 EUR)
sell for   15 $ (= 11 EUR) ---> 1 EUR stays and shown as loss or revenue in COPA reports with EUR ???
i believe if we run ckmlcp system revaluates the euro side with the new currency rate but i am not sure.
One more question  can we run ckmlcp if we dont have product costing ???
    thank you..

    Hi,
I was confused at first. The multi-currency capabilities are suited to keep the historic curency information and make material valuation in parallel currencies independent from the current exchange rate
    So in your example:
buy for 15 $ (=10 EUR)          --> 10 EUR wil become the material valuation
sell for 15 $ (= 11 EUR)       --> stock value will be reduced by 10 EUR (not 11 as would the current exchange rate suggest)
But you are right for the sales price ori the CO-PA revenue in EUR. This will still use the current exchange rate and would lead to the 1 EUR profit because you have the material on stock valuated with 10 EUR but sell it with 11 EUR price.
Material ledger would not prevent the profit/loss and also not counter-post it, even if you used CKMLCP. The actual price would even after ML closing be 10 EUR and no revaluation of consumption would be necessary. The sales prices is an 'external' decision and normally not determined by material valuation, therfore the sales price will not be adapted by material ledger calculations.
Sorry, I have no proposal how to get rid of that. Search ratther in CO-PA currency conversion than in ML.
    best regards,
                        Udo

  • Material Ledger Movement type Groups

I need to activated ML in a SAP ECC 5.0 client, But When I add entries in OMX7  (Define Movements type groups of Material Ledger) I can not modify "Revaluation of consumptios" field. Is there any dependence I need to review before add a group?
I have been reviewing other clients and it is possible. Why I can Add groups but not change this field?

I guess the revaluation of consumption functionality resides in the financials extension. Therefore a precondition for that setting might be to switch on the extension.
