Material Master Characteristic Configuration

Hi Experts,
I'd like to know how to configure the Material Master Maintenance MM01/MM02/MM03 tcodes to show the Characteristic Tab and all other tabs that can be activated. And also what are the configuration to consider when using the Characteristic Option for Maintenance.

I am done with the configuration of OMS2, now I can see the Characteristic Tab in the Material Master (MM01/MM02/MM03). However, the user wants to display the Charateristic Tab with all the tabs. As when I choose the Characteristic Tab display, the other tabs for material master are now gone. How can I configure that the Characteristic Tab is a normal tab, under Material Master Maintenance/Display?

I am not finding any 'Excise data group' box in material master and hence not able to maintain excise data for material from material master
"As of SAP R/3 Enterprise Core Release 4.70 (SAP_APPL 470), you can maintain customer, vendor, and material master data relating to excise duty for Country Version India in the standard master data transactions.
You can therefore now maintain this data in the Excise Rate Maintenance transaction or in the master record transactions.
You can maintain the data in the standard master record transactions as follows:
o In the material master, the additional fields are displayed at plant level, on the Foreign Trade:
Import Data tab and the Foreign Trade: Export Data tab, in the Excise Data group box."

1. Go to IMG Logistics General Material Master  Configuring the Material master  Define Structure of Data Screen for each Screen Sequence.
2. Select your screen sequence. Usually it would be 21. Select the same and click on Data Screen in the left frame.
3. Once the data screens are exhibited, select data screen no. 15, ie. SSq. 21and Scrn 15, which is Foreign Trade: Import Data. Select the same and click on Subcreens in the left frame.
4. Go to the last sub screen i.e. 21-15-6 - SAPLMGD1- 0001 and select the same. Click on tab view sub screen and ensure that the sub screen is blank.
5. Now in the last sub screen i.e. no.6 you delete SAPLMGD1 0001 and instead add SAPLJ1I_MATERIAL_MASTER and in the screen no. 2205.
6. Save the setting
7. Create a Material Master and check whether in Screen Foreign Trade Import, Excise related subscreen appears.

Hai expertise,
How can i download the readymade repository for material master. If we want to create customized repository, how to design the repository for master data like material, vendor etc.,
Are there any standard documents available for the above??

CIN data in Material master

The CIN data in the Foreign trade views of the Material Master is not coming. I ve done Assign Users to Material Master Screen Sequence for Excise D . Screen sequence IN is assigned, but not showing in material master..pls tell

Config setting needed to be done in order to get the Excise Details Screen in Material Master.
Even though this functionality is available in enterprise version, a small config step has to be made in Screen Sequences for Material Master.
Following document helps you to do this configuration.
1.     Go to IMG  Logistics General  Material Master  Configuring the Material master  Define Structure of Data Screen for each Screen Sequence.

Eg: Ford car.If a sale order is raised for fiesta lxi model the system should choose red colour & for vxi blue colour respectively.
ie you need to define the characteristic and assign the values .
This characteristic need to assigned to class.
class need to be assigned to material master
1. T.code : CT04(characteristic) FORD_MODEL, Choose single value & entry required tab & give the input as 01 - fiesta_lxi & 02 - fiesta_vxi.( characteristic values)
2.Tcode: CT04, FORD_BODY( another characteristic)
Choose single value , don't click entry required.
01 - Red( characteristic values)
02- Blue
3. Create class T.code : CL02
fiesta_class
type : 300
4. OBJECT DEPENDENCY:
T.CODE : CT04
FORD_MODEL
CLICK VALUES TAB,
IN FIESTA_LXI CLICK THE 'O' meant for Obj dependency, action & extra.
Edit the dependecy,
010 $Self.ford_body = '01'. & save
Repeat the same for FIEST_VXI & instead of '01' give '02' for blue colour.
, then create a ROH as ford_body. & a KMAT material for the car. .
Then create a Super BOM with usage 3 & give component as ford_body
Then use T.code cu41 (Create config profile)
enter a profile name & class 300 & choose class assignment, choose fiest_class ,
Use T.code cu50 to check the values.
Then create a sale order.

Copy characteristic value(class 023 ) from the material master to the batch

Dear All,
Is there a way to copy the characteristic value (class 123) from material master to the batch master automatically once we create a batch of that material
I tried to create a dependency, but didnu2019t know what to write in the dependency editor

I dont know if its possible in standard, you can try and create a reference batch, and use the below user exit I found in SAP library :
Set Up Customer Exit for Determining Source Batch
You can use function module exit EXIT_SAPLV01Z_011 in SAP enhancement SAPLV1ZN when assigning characteristic values to batches. You use this to specify a reference batch when creating a new batch with the central function module VB_CREATE_BATCH.
Further notes
The reference batch must always be specified completely. This means the reference material, source batch and reference plant details must have been entered if the batch is determined at plant level.
All batch master data is copied. If the batch is classified in this enhancement, the values assigned to the corresponding characteristics are copied.
In the exit, you can use a communication structure with the application data for the respective business transaction (for example, plant or material type). If you require further information, you must obtain it yourself in one of the user exits (such as time, user name, or date, for example).

"Material is configurable" indicator in material master record

Hallo, SAP gurus!
I have a problem:
in my SAP system there is a material whose indicator "material is configurable" is set. Due to this I cannot hold calculations of this material on. How can I clear this indicator(it's grayed and I can't modify it)?
I experimented with BOMs for this material and tried to create several BOMs and I managed as I understand. Probably this could influence setting "material is configurable" flag. Because I could hold calculations on this material before.

firstly unlock the material in mm02--> basic data 1 you have a small lock on top along with additional data and other tabs when you click on that it will unlock and then you can change it also do get in to img - logistic general- material master--field selection--- define lock relevant keys
here go to config management and material lock check the or uncheck the relevant fields

Assignment of above created classed characteristic to the Batch Class at the time of class creation. (CL01)
Assignment of batch class to material master in classification view. (MM01)
Creation of MIC with reference to above created Class characteristic (QS21)
Creation of inspection plan with above MIC (QP01)
Follow your business process cycle for creation of inspection lot
Result recording and usage decision (QA32)
You can see in MSC2N that batch characteristic will get updated.

1. Material Number:
SPRO -> Logistic - General -> Material Master -> Basic Settings -> Define Output Format of Material Number
TCODE: OMSL
2. Define Field Reference:
SPRO -> Logistic - General -> Material Master -> Field Selection -> Maintain field Selection For data Screens
T CODE: OMS9
3. Define Industry Sector:
SPRO -> Logistic - General -> Material Master -> Field Selection -> Define industry Sectors and industry -sector- specific Field Selection
T.Code:OMS3
4. Material Type:
SPRO -> Logistic - General -> Material Master -> Basic Settings -> Material Type ->Define attribute of material Type
T.Code:OMS2
(Select Material Type: ROH for ur raw material( example) copy it and renamed it to UR RAW MATERIAL)
5. Define Screen Sequence:

Automate Characteristic value selection in Classification -Material Master

We have large number of Characteristics and Value selection manually (mandatory and optional)
we want to automate the Characteristics and Value selection

What I understand from the question is this: While creating a material master through the use of workflow, you wish to automate the selection of mandatory and optional characteristics in the classification view. I have a few queries:
How many classes does your material have? only batch class or material class as well?
Also, on what basis do you want to automate the selection of the characteristic values for a material? There has to be a connection between the material type OR class assigned to the material, etc.

Procurement Type in MRP2 view - material master - configuration?

for the life of me, i cannot find how to configure this field. does anyone have any knowledge how to configure this field to have more options from a material type standpoint?
for example, if i use a VERP material type, i want to have the ability to choose in house (E) or external (F) procurement.

SPRO > Logistics - General > Material Master > Basic Setting > Material Types > Define Atrributes of Material Types.
Choose the desired material type > double click > on 'Internal/external purchase order' tab (section) please set '2' (or '1') for both external and internal PO.

Unspsc code configuration in Material master

Hi Guru's,
My client has using UNSPSC code heirarchy in the material master.
There are four levels of heirarchy. I configured in the classification view of the material master accordingly to the heirarchy. Now I need to genarate a report based on the material group and that report should pull the characterstic and its value correctly at a specified heirarchy level.
Is there any standard report to pull the heirarchy level for the material group?
How can I achieve this

I'm looking for exactly what you stated above ( 2 years ago... ), but I'm a step behind you.
Can you refer me to configuration doc for setting up material master based on UNSPSC code hierarchy? Do you do this through WG21, entering commodity level in Material group and then Class/Family/Segment in MG Hierarchy level field ?
Also, did you find or receive any guidance on standard report to pull hierarchy level for material group ?
Any guidance on this is much appreciated.

Configuration of material master idoc interface to RFID

We are planning to have SAP RFID. Once operational, do we need to send SAP Material Master field data to RFID? For ex; when the description of a material is changed, do we need to send this new information to RFID system through Idoc (or some other way)?

Yes. This is available in SAP AII which is configurable. Material Idoc is the best way. Activate change pointers generally (Customizing for Logistics - General -> Supply Chain Planning Interfaces (SCPI) -> Auto-ID Backend Integration --> IDoc Processing --> Material Master Data IDocs -> Activate Change Pointers Generally).

Generate change documents for characteristic value changes in material master

Hello,
I am currently using material class (class type: 001) and assign some characteristics to material master. I am going to create a query/custom report to track all changes in the characteristic values in that material master. However, I could not find any change document in CDHDR table.
I have activated "Change Docs" parameter in class type 001 customizing as described in SAP note: 65124 Classification Change Documents as follow:

CONFIGURATION OF MATERIAL MASTER

I want to make some of the field hide, required in the material master.So I tried to use the T-code- OMS9.After entering the T- code, First line contains field selection group. At the bottom of the table I saw two radio button sort entries by field reference & field selection. And in the middle portion of the table .if we make double click, then in the second screen Hide, required, optional as well selection group fields from 1 to 240 are available. I want to make one field optional where it was in a hide mode. The selection 1-240 no. is available. My question is for any field to make optional it is necessary to make changes 1-240 times in the selection group? In the middle portion of the table in where used list indicator ,some plants are assigned. Where is the setting .Another question is field selection group are available from 1-101 times. How can we know which field selection group is appropriate for which field. In the T-code- OMS3 One field reference field is available. What is the use of it. In T-code- OMS9 in the middle portion of the table one field reference field is available. I saw it is different from the field reference field from T-code- OMS3. PL. help me.

To every material type one field reference key is assigned and in a field reference key there are number of fields
every field is assigned to a field selection group
and possibly in a field selection group there are no. of fileds so if you make any of the field seection group as hide/mandatory so it will be applicable to all the fields so
if you want to make a particular field as mandatory then assign a free field selcetion group to that field via tcode i think OMSR and then make this field selection group as mandatory via OMS9 for the particular field reference key .
