Material Master Field Selection Group

Hi Experts
In Material Master
Under MRP2 View - Field # Prod Stor Loc, (MARC - LGPRO) appears & Work Scheduling view, under Field Selection Group: 77
Now I want to also add/extend this field: MARC - LGPRO in Plant Storage 1/2 view. Possible ?
What are the steps involved.

Go to OMT3B, here select Entry "21" (Std ind.(short) tab pages) and double click on "Data screens" and here select entry "21 + 18" (General Plant Data / Storage 1) and then double click on "Subscreens" and maintain following entry;
21 18 4 SAPLMGD1 2484

I want to know whether the field from costing view of material master MBEW-HRKFT is made mandatory for a material type or not?

Hi,
1. First go to OMS2 > Here for material type, get the "Field reference Key"
2. Then go to OMS9 > Here in search help of Field sel. group, search for "MBEW-HRKFT" and select it. (It will come as 41)
3. Now click on "Position" buttom and enter the Field reference Key got in Step1 and selct it by pressing enter button. Now select "Reqd Entry" Radio button
But, it will activate all the relevant fields in Costing view, not only this field.
So go to OMSR, here search Field Name "MBEW-HRKFT" and assign a new selection group (For e.g. 239)
And now In OMS9 - Do necessary field selection for this Field sel. group 239 as suggested in above steps (1/2/3)

Material master fields on plant level

Hi all,
is it possible that i can restrict fields on plant level, like one material type one field i want mand. in one plant and optional in other plant.

Yes, it posible:
go to SPRO
Logistics - General-> Material Master->Field Selection->Define Plant-Specific Field Selection and Plant-Specific Screen Selection (OMSA)
see the settings for the plant in field reference - you need a diferent reference to the diferent plants (group together similar plants - all the ones that you want the field to be mandetory should have the same field reference)
now go to OMS9 or OMSR
and set the field as mandetory for the field reference you have made in OMSA

Material master Fields Mandatory

i want to make some field mandatory, in Sales Org view of material master, Please help me where i have to go in SPRO for such setting

Hi Ashish,
First go to the respective field for which it has to be made mandatory. Note down the Table name and field name.
Go to SPRO--> Logistics General --> Material Master --> Field Selection --> Assign Fields to Field Selection Groups.
click the position field name button and enter the table name - field name (eg MARA-TRAGR for Transportation Group). Note down the Selection Group. Then go to
SPRO--> Logistics General --> Material Master --> Field Selection --> Maintain Field Selection for Data Screens
Kindly mention the field selection group that has been noted earlier and press enter.
Then in the middle Field Selection (Field Selection Group 1) can be seen select the field reference of the material type or MM01 for Create Material Master or MM02 for Change Material master as hide, display, reqd entry and Opt. entry.

Hi,
T- code OMSR is used to assign Fields to Field Selection Group
Define whether a field is hidden or displayed, or whether an entry is mandatory or optional in material master maintenance by assigning the field to a field selection group in OMSR. You can assign a field to one field selection group only.
Each field selection group has a number between 1 and 240.
The values of the field selection groups have been preassigned as follows:
001-110 Material master for industry
111-120 Reserved for customers (except where the values are already in use)
121-150 Material master for industry
151-210 Material master for retail 211-240 Reserved for customers
OMS9 is used to create and maintain field references
Create field selection group in OMSR by clicking new entries-->give field, check the propose field cont box and give maint.status.

Define whether a field is hidden or displayed, or whether an entry is mandatory or optional in material master maintenance by assigning the field to a field selection group in OMSR.
Each field selection group has a number between 1 and 240.
The values of the field selection groups have been preassigned as follows:
001-110 Material master for industry
111-120 Reserved for customers (except where the values are already in use)
121-150 Material master for industry
151-210 Material master for retail

Create and maintain field references (OMS9).
All the fields in the same fields group will have the same field selection option.

You can see where a field reference is used by choosing Where-used list.
Define or change the field references as required (except for field references with the prefix SAP which must not be changed). New field references must begin with Y or Z.
Changing the Field Selection Options for a Field Selection Group
1. Specify the field selection group .
2. Select the field selection option (hide, display, required entry, or optional entry)
for each field reference as required.
3. Save.
Creating a Field Reference
1. Choose New entries.
2. Specify a field reference beginning with Y or Z.
3. Select the field selection option for each field selection group as required.
4. Save.
Changing a Field Reference
1. Double-click the relevant field reference.
2. Change the field selection option for each field selection group as required.
3. Save.
Define industry sectors and industry-sector-specific field selection in OMS3.
Define plant-specific field selection and screen selection in OMSA.

Reg.Material master field active & deactive setting

How to set the material master fields as "Optional","Requirement" and "Hide". What is the tcode?

first copy the screen field of mateiral master to get this press F1 on the the field adn from technical tas copy the the screen field (e.g MRP group MARC-DISGR) then go to OMSR transaction and hit field name and enter the value you have copy from mateiral
once you see that field on the screen then hit the Green yellow arrow from right side of screen whic will take the screen where oyu can make optiona, reqd or hide field.
but make sure here you make setting at appropriate field ref other wise it will impact many transaciton
e.g. if oyu want to make field optional in MM02 then don;t make field optional at ROH

Change Field selection group for Movt type 701

Hi experts,
I want to change Field Selection group for movt type 701. Right now " Business Area " & " Cost Centre " fields are suppressed. I want to change it to required entry.

In Customizing an account assignment can be made for every inventory
adjustment account. To do this the inventory adjustment account must
first be defined as a cost element (Transaction KA01 / KA06):
Accounting -> Controlling -> Cost centers -> Master data -> Cost element
-> Create primary / secondary. Then an account assignment can be made
for the cost element (Transaction OKB9):
Tools -> Customizing -> Setup menu -> Accounting -> Controlling -> Cost
centers -> Actual postings -> Automatic account assignment.
If this account assignment is implemented every posting to the
particular inventory adjustment account will automatically receive the
appropriate account assignment.

Locking and locking material master fields

Hi Experts
I have a scenario where we need to lock material master field to be locked once data is maintained in the field so that its not editable for the users to change by the users, later the change should be possible for the field through an interface.
Any inputs on how to achieve this.

Im not sure how to get a direct solution for your scenario, but maybe you can use Authorization group to control who can access to this material instead?
Just a thought.

Mass changes of Material Master field with different values

Hi,
How to change a field in Material Master for more than thousand materials. I think MM17 can only be used for mass changes of materials with same values. I need to upload different values for different materials. Is there any other way to do this.

Field Selection Group for Batch Management

Hi All,
I do not want to make the field mandatory for Raw Material during creation of material master.
I checked the fileld selection group for MARA-XCHPF for ROH material type, MM01 , it is optional.
But when i try to create the Material Master for ROH it is showing mandatory field.

Go to the OMS9, here enter the Field sel. group 75 for your MARA-XCHPF, enter and then check the ROH Field refrece, if it shows required then select either Optinal entry or Hide or Display as per the requirement.
Check and revert.

Material Master Field Change

I have a Field in MRP2 View MARC -> Field LGPRO (Issue Storage Location).
I am using MRP2 view, only for this field.
1) Is it possible I can move this Field to Plant/Storage location view ??
2) How to restrict this setting only for particular material types.

You need to move the entire sub screen. If you go to SPRO->logistics General> material master>configuring material master--> define structure of data screens for each screen sequence. Say select 21 that is std ind ( short) tab pages and make a copy of that say Z1. In that if you go to MRP2 view the sub screen containing storagelocation field is with screen number 2484.
Now if you go to Plant storage data view 1 and select dialog structure subscreens; here the screen with 0001 can be changed to 2484. However since this is related to MRP view the maintainance status needs to be changed to D from L else you will not be able to see the fields. But if you change the status to D the orginal sub screens of Plant data/storage1 will not appear.
You will have to check that these subscreens can be moved to Gen plant data/storage2.
Finally you need to assing this Z1 under same node but assign screen sequences to user/material type/transaction/industry sector under that
SREf Trans Sref user Sref Matl type Sref : industry Ssq
01 * relevant material type * z1 ( the one which was created as above)
However material master being very critical it is advised not to make such changes and if any changes are made it has to be thoroughly tested for the impact.

You can maintain these fields as mandatory in your material master...U must be using field reference i.e. say for eg 0001 or whatever which u can see in T Code "<b>OMSA</b>".......Against that field reference; u keep below mentioned fields as mandator i.e. in T Code "<b>OMS9</b>"........But these will help u to keep these fields as mandatory.......which means w/o entering values; u may not save material master
If required; assign these fields to field groups in OMSR
