Hi ,
We are looking for information related to material master -say in a new instance what are the information that we should look /gather information for the implemented Material masters which can give the macro / micro lavel information particulary for MRO materials which can give feel of how best way material masters have been classified with appropriate structure & reporting at Procurement organisation level.
Pls share your experiences / best practices /information related to material master -covering end to end from overall perspective.This we need for studying the existing processes & re engineering them within SAP keeping in mind the best industry standards for material masters.

WM Material Master Data - extend materials inquiry

I have a question regarding WM Material Master Data - extend materials
what is the best practice for extending materials to Warehouse Management views 1 and 2. We have 1 new warehouse with fixed bins 001 Pallet, 002 Racking, 003 Floor, 004 Bins, 005 Chemicals, 099 Quarantine. My question is should we extend 3000 materials to each of the designated fixed bins to the Plant/Warehouse Number/Storage Type for WM views 1 & 2?

As suggested by Raj you can use Mass maintenance option MM17 to update the WM1 and WM2 view
or
You can use the LSMW option to upload from external file (e.g. xls, CSV files)

Material master for packing materials for based on customers

Dear all,
       can any one tell me how to maintain material master for packing materials based on customers to whom finished goods r supplied.

Option : 1
Create your packing (VERP) material as per the Customer.
E.g.
Packing material   Product   Customer
200000000            ABC         XYZ
200000001            ABC         YZX
200000002            ABC         XZY
200000003            BCD         XYZ
200000004            BCD         YZX
200000005            BCD         XZY
Option : 2
If you are batch managed then and then only this option will work.
Create Characteristic "Customer"
- Assign it a Batch Class (023)
- Assign this batch class to the material
- Now as and when any transaction will be done on this material, you can apply the relevant customer to the batch and separate that particular by customer.

Restrict material master information at the field level

We have a requirement to restrict change access to certain material master fields, meaning everyone may be able to view the data but not change it. Beyond that, those people who are allowed to change the data can only change certain fields...other people can change other fields (on the same material master view). For instance a simple example would be that someone might have access to change the material description on the basic view but not the material group. Someone else might have access to change the material group but not the description. (Again, this is just a scenario that I'm using as an example, not as a real live case.)
Is it even possible to do this? I'm guessing it's not but I thought I'd ask the "experts" here before I deliver the bad news to our users.

Thank you for the information but I was aware of using screen sequence and field selection however how can I use this to allow certain users access to certain fields but not others.
For example in the Basic view I want one set of users for the same exact material to be able to change the Base of Unit Measure while the other user can only view this field but not change it however this user can change the other fields in the Basic view. This sounds like a solution for all fields for a particular materials. I need to be assign fields within a view to different users.

MM01 in IS-Retail to create material master for Construction materials

Dear All,
We have few materials which will be used only in PS-For construction of our buildings. We are not selling these materials, seldom we will use for STO ( Both Inter & Intra).
Can i create these materials using MM01 instaed of MM41 ?
Is listing compulsory for these materials also ?

Yes you can create material through MM01...........Create seprate material type for PS material & use is exculusively for PS only....................You can do STO for SAME material...

Unsolved Problem-Order without Material Master

Hi all
My problem is still unsolved. I want to create Sales Order with out Material Master. In Materials Management, we create Purchase orders to vendors with out a Material Master by just typing description of a material and then assigning Material Group and Cost Centre to that description.
If it is possible to issue Purchase Orders with out material master, then it is not possible to create sales Order also without material master?
I got an answer here yesterday to type description in Material description field in SO and use item category TATX. The problem with this is, it allows delivery, but does not allow pricing (pricing setting immediately goes to display mode in item category screen). If I do any other alterations with this item category, then it asks for material number while creating sales order.

I think the for text material pricing is not applicable.Thats why it's not taking.Text material is only for displaying text only.

Table name for material master change

What is the table name for material master change, so that I can get the old values and new values at plant level.
More specific:
I want to check the old values for Re order point and Safety stock in MRP1 and MRP2 fields in material master for many materials. Please help.

Use CDPOS and CDHDR table to get the values which were changed.
CDPOS>use fields Change doc. object give in as MATERIAL and in the Table name>MARC

How to update only Raw material cost(CK11n) in Material Master ?

Hi Everybody,
My client has a requirement where only raw material costs from the BOM should get updated in Material Master (Accounting 1 view in Standard Price field).
But in Receipe & BOM for the Process Order, the client wants all Packing Materials and activites to be maintained.

Let me put it this way to explain you my problem.
When running CK11n,
Total Cost is =
Total Raw Materials used Cost = QTY from BOM * Price from Material Master
+
Total Packing Materials used Cost = QTY from BOM * Price from Material Master
+
Total Utility cost = Qty from receipe * price in KP26
When viewing the cost componenet view in CK11n tcode, I can view the break up as follows
Raw Material Cost = XX rs
Packing Material Cost = XX rs
Overheads = XX rs
Total cost = sum of all above XX rs ( this is the cost which gets updated when realasing price thru t code CK40n)
But my client wants that at time of price relase, system should relase only total raw materil cost as standard price for the Finished Good in Material Master Accounting 1 view.

Using supplier to update material master (MM02)

Hi,
We have a supplier that manufactures for us and we are asking that they pass certain MARA fields to us, so that we can automatically update the material master. The primary fields are weights and dimensions. We are using EDI and the MATMAS message type and basic type. However, we only want 6 or 7 fields allowed to pass to MARA, but we are getting all fields that are included in MATMAS, which is passing a null value to MARA and overwriting our existing data.
Does anyone know how to only pass certain fields using the MATMAS basic/message type? Should we be using another basic/message type to pass material master information from a supplier?

This requires external program interface. Through web portal, your supplier can upload directly all relevant material master data.

Reg : Material Master Idcos

Hi All,
I have changed " material grouping " field in workscheduling view in material master for some materials and the job will run every friday then triggers the idocs for the mateiral master changes. I have changed on 01.06.2010 and it should trigger on 04.06.2010 but the idoc is not triggered till now for some materials.
I have checked all the possibilities like DF plant level ( LVORM ) , P-S matl status ( MMSTA ) but everything is fine.
Please let me know how to check why the idocs are not triggered for this change.
Because these changes are not reflected in 3rd party system as the idocs are not triggered and we are facing many problems due to this .
Help me regarding this issue.

I checked the filter conditions also , these materials are satisfying the condition too.
Here we are not using change pointer technique.

Max stock level as safety stock from material master while running SNP Heuristic

Our user wants to consider max stock level as safety stock from material master while running SNP Heuristic, not the actual safety stock.
Is there any possibility for this setup?

Hi Kishore,
With the given details I suggest that the user can maintain the max stock level values directly in safety stock field of the material master for all materials to be planned by SNP heuristic (keeping the max stock level field blank). Then this safety stock field (which has actually the max stock level values) will update the safety stock values in APO product master and in turn can be considered for SNP heuristic.
Note: The max stock level field in APO product master is used by SNP heuristic only when the target stock level method is maintained as 4, 5 or 6. Since your requirement is to use max stock level as safety stock, so it does not look like that you will be using these target stock level methods or the max stock level field in R/3 and APO. So, this can be left as blank in both R/3 and APO.

How to activate the new fields on material master(MM01/MM02/MM03) for existing Materials

Hi,
We have a requirement to add some custom fields as a new tab in additional data option(Descriptions, Unit of measure, etc.) in Basic data of Material master (MM01/MM02/MM03). I have successfully added and these custom fields and they are not part of standard(MARA, MARC) but a custom table and the updates are also done in custom table.
For new materials, I can see the new tab in additional data screens of basic data view and I could successfully create/change/display using MM01/MM02/MM03. However I cannot see the new tab/fields for existing materials in the system in all 3 tcodes (MM01/MM02/MM03). This is not a main view in material master so that I can extend it by MM01.
Is there any setting or mass generation program I have top perform so that I can see and maintain these new fields for existing materials. Appreciate any leads or help on this.

Use the above path and create the screen and assign it to the sequence using the below link as reference.

Sales order does not extract plant information from material master data

Hi experts,
I have created a sales order. However, the plant in the shipping tab can only be manually entered.
I have made the check:
the customer material master data does not have the plant info.
the customer master data does not have it either.
It is defined in the material master data: sales:general/plant
But the sales order did not extract this information. Why does this happen?

Hello Friend,
As right stated by you,
The Plant will be copied from the master data to the sales order, if not it should be manually entered
The Sequence System will search for the Plant is as follow..
1. Customer material infor record, If it was not maintained then it will search in
2. Customer master, if the entre was not maintained in the SHIPPING TAB
3. Finally it will search in the Material master in the Sales organisation data 1 in the field DELVERING PLANT field.
So please search whether the entry was maintained in that field at the sales:sales organisation data 1.
This might be the issue.

Create list of materials with its purchase order texts from material master

Dear all
Simple question I do wanna ask.
Just need to get out a list with my materials with its purchase order texts from the material master.
As I do know that PO text is not stored on a table, it might be difficult to get it out from the system.
Does anyone of you know how to retrieve it simply?
