I want to create a Material Master with the External no range like this ADCG9832.
how to do the customize settings

Go to transectio code MMNR.
Enter the number range AAAA0000 - Z9999999.
And select the External number range flag.

go to the MMNR tcode
hit change group
keep cursor on the material type and go to
Menu - Edit-select element
it will turn in blue
than select your group adn from ment edit-hit assign element group
this will assign new group

Material Master Number Range - Very Urgent

Hi ,
My client is having existing material codification as below :
all material types for e.g. ROH, HALB, FERT will be starting their material code with 00 or 01 or 02 etc. sine the first two digits denotes the year , which will vary from material to material. The characters used will be from minimum 8 to maximum 14 - Alphanumeric.
for e.g. my material code will be
for ROH - 000040101F0101
for FERT - 00801000101
for HALB - 013000101C
here for all materail type first 2 digit are for year and next will be prod. code , then assy , then sub assy , if forging applicable it will be F , if casting then - C
How this can be mapped in SAP as one series for all material types, is it possible for system to identify the material type, what is advantage & disadvantage of the same.

Using Standard SAP for Material number ranges may not be able to map your requiremnts.
But you can use the SAP enhancements available for the Number ranges determination & so onj...
Please use the User exit in CMOD or SMOD
You can use enhancement MGA00002 (for industry) or enhancement MGW00002 (for retail) for this.

Material Master number range

Hi Gurus,
In the our system, following number ranges are set for material master,
1 - 820000     to 899999     Current number 896492 (internal)
2 - 900000     to 979999
3 - 980000 to 999999
The number range 1 is going to complete.
As the next numbers after 899999 is already in use for different material type, I will not be able to extend the material number range 1.
What should I do,
Should I create altogether new number range and assign to this material type?
- Will system allow me to add another new number range along with existing number range or I need to remove the existing number range and attach new number range. (not yet tried. based on your feed back will try)
- If system allow to add the new number range along with existing, will system understand after reaching last number, it will go to next number range and start from there.
Kindly guide me.

Hi,
then just delete the number range from the group and add a new one.
Use the delete icon with the red line to delete the number range from the group.
You have to change the status to 0 first
To quote the SAP help
1. Branch to number status maintenance.
2. Set the number status to '0'.
3. Branch to interval maintenance.
4. Delete the interval.
Then you can add a new interval

Material Master Number Range Issue

Dear Experts,
One of Our Client has 3 company codes and each company has seperate material master.
Company 1: 0100000000 to 0399999999 (10 Characters)
Company 2: 2010000000 to 9999999999 (10 Characters)
Company 3: 10000000000 to 99999999999 (11 Characters)
Is it possible to configure all the three number ranges in Same Client using different Material Type ?.
According to client, the number ranges are not overlapping.
Please suggest.

Problem with material master number range

Hi,
we have a problem with the material number range when stop the transaction of creation a material master data (MM01) the system has a jump of number range.
Example -> while creating a new material master the system gives me a number preview (46) but if I stop the transanction without save the master data the system doesn't give me the number 46 in the next master data but give me the next number 8in this example 47).
It there a way for not have this jump of number range?

Material Master Number range Problem

Hi Experts,
There is a Group 1 which has ROH assigned...then i changed the assignment,assigned ROH to a
Group 2.
Recently Material Type config was done in different R/3 system and transported to our R/3 system.I did had a look in the TR it had only material type releavnt changes like Authorisation group and S.ref material type (T134 and T134T)
But as a result ROH got reallocated to Group1 as initial.
I had checked the log in MMNR the log shows me the assignment ROH to a Group 2 which i have done as the last change.
No Clue what could have happened,If any one have some idea pls do let me know.

I did found a root cause of the problem.
In Mat.type configuration there is number range code(NRC) 01,02,03 getting recorded.
In our system NRC for ROH was 01,but in other R/3 system NRC for ROH was 02
And when TR came from diff R/3 system our NRC was over written to 02.

Is it possible to change materials number range flag from external to internal
I need to upload materials to SAP from excel file. At the time of upload planning to use number range flag as external then after upload is completed planning to change to internal.

Hi,
Try to set the status of the number range from 0001-9999 to "0" through t-code XDN1 and save.
Then go to intervals and change the assignment of numbner to internal.

No range in material master

How do we create internal No range for material master. In Tcode-MMNR if we do not tickmark external then wheather it means that its internal no range

HI,
If External is not ticked, system will assign the number range maintained in sequence automatically. If you want to maintain alphanumeric number range, you can maintain that in OMS2 for material type.
You can define the Material Master Number Range in transaction MMNR. Click the button Groups to Maintain the Material Type Grouping. Below are those material type that have no number range groups. To assign a group, in the not assigned group, select the Material Type you want to group. Then tick the Group you want to assign and click the menu path Edit -> Assign Element Group.
From the same screen, if you want a new number range intervals, click Group -> Insert Group. If you decided to used an external number range, goto transaction OMS2 and tick the field External no. assignment w/o check.
You have two ways of assigning number range :
Internal number assignment
In this case, a number within the number range interval allowed is assigned by the SAP R/3 System.
External number assignment
Here, the user assigns a number within the number range interval allowed. You can define the intervals for external number assignment numerically and alphanumerically.
You can assign one or more material types to each group.
If you assign just one material type to a group, you can define both an internal and an external number range interval for the material type. If you group together more than one material type, you can define an internal and an external number range interval here too. This allows several material types to have the same number range intervals.

How to transport number range group Configuration in Material Master

Hi,
I have this query regarding how to transport number range group in material master from one server to another.
Problem: There was no number range assignment done for a particular material type. So, i assigned the particular mat. type to a group which had some number range intervals with the help of T-Code MMNR.
But when i want to transport this config. to other sever, it is only transporting the interval but not the assignment done to that group. In the menu bar only Interval transport option is there.
Can anybody help me with this I hope the query is clear.

Delet Material Master Record but not the range

HI experts,
I have more material master records in production data base; now i need to delete them but at the same time don't remove the range numbering.
I.E.
there are 10 master record with range number from 1 to 10.
now, deleting these 10 master records, i would like to avoid that the numbering starts from 11.

Hi Jurgen,
I've gone through the data archiving project in the past. I was actually hoping I don't have to go through this big exercise for this minor situation.
The storage locations in the SAP system are fine. The problem is that when I came in to this organization, I found out that the procurement users have accidentally extended material master record to those storage location irrelevant to them. Those users don't post any stock to those accidentally extended storage location. They admit that it was a mistake. So, I don't really have to do stock movement or GI out from those affected storage location because there's nothing in them.
Now that I've initially flag for deletion (MM06) of those mistakes done by those procurement users over the few years counting to 2000+ material master records affected. But the standard behavior of the SAP system allows change to proceed in MM02 except for that warning message MM081. So, I was actually asking around to explore if there's actually an option to make it an error prompt instead and stop the whole change process at MM02 transaction level.
If I may re-confirm, what I've done so far via flaging for deletion of material master record at storage location level - is this the only correct solution available?
Hope this clarifies my intention of opening this thread. Sometimes, users are quite tough in accepting the results from standard SAP system behavior.

I like to know No Range for Material Master is Client or Company Code Specific.
Eg;- There are 3 company code in my sap Client - 500. All are in different country.
The like to maintain No. Range for FERT for
Company Code : A 0001 - 1000
Company Code : B 1001 - 3000
Company Code : C 3001 - 4000
Is it possible? How to make config. for this.

In tcde MMNR select groups in the application tool bar a pencil like icon click that
Then go to group in the top menu bar
In that if you choose insert
Then a dialogue box will open
In that give text and
there will be two lines
First is for internal no range
second is for external no range with the check box ticked in grey
In that you have to choose the second one and give only the range interval
External tick is already there ready made in the system
If you are sure that your settings are correct in MMNR
IMG-L.G-MATERIAL MASTER-BASIC SETTINGS-MATERIAL TYPE---DEFINE ATTRIBUTES OF MATERIAL TYPES
in this choose your material type and click on its details
in the general data tab there is a external no assignmentw/o check a check box is there
Pls tick that and try to do your process by giving external no

Material Master External Number Range problem

Material Master External Number Range that allows numerics only and combo of numerics, Alpha and Characters
I have the following issue. My client wants to use a purely External Numbering System in SAP
- They only use one Material Type (HALB).
The range must be able to manage material numbers that:
1. Are up to 18 CHAR
2. Have Leading Zero's(Numeric Only) - example 0123, 0000223, etc
3. Purely numeric (no zeros) - ex 56788, 1235456
4. Have Leading Zero's with (Alpha Numeric) - ex 00A456
5. Alpha numeric (No Zeros) ex T123542
6. Leading Zero's with a '.' in the Mat Number
Four examples
005.009.23
0000A.123.5544 M1
000.593.33234
0.1234
I have the Lexiographical Setting Checked
Leading Zero's Checked
Range is - 000000000000000000 to ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
The issue I have is with the last two examples in 6 above 'Leading zero's with a '.' in the Mat Number.
It seems the system has an issue with zero's then a decimal point without having another number of letter in between. It will allow 00000002.1223 but not 000000.1223. The only way I can get the system to take the leading zero then '.' entries is to check 'X' the 'External Number Assignment w/o Check in the Material Type HALB. When I do that I am no longer allowed to create purely numeric numbers. Any help?
Creating another material type is not an option. Also the '.' can be in any position in the layout.

ASCII and UNICODE values of period (.) are lower that 0.
Solution: Change your number range like this
From
Range is - 000000000000000000 to ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
To
Range is - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - to ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
(replace zeroes with hyphen, because the value of hyphen is lower than period)
