  • Career In DMS

    Hi Friends
Presently I am Working In SAP DMS and I want to make career in DMS can guide me how is the career in this field and what is market demand for this module and also can any body provide material of DMS
    Regards
    Lavanya

    Hi Lavanya,
    DMS is document management system,
By using SAP document management you can achieve the following:
    ·        Linking document management with computer-aided development and production systems prevents redundant data retention and inconsistency, and reduces the effort put into entering data and keeping it up-to-date.
    ·        The vast amount of information can only become a profit-making production factor if the data is exchanged quickly and safely. You can access your data directly using electronic search tools, or find documents using known parameters. It is also possible to find and display documents (original application files) on the Internet or an intranet.
    ·        By reducing the access time and the amount of work required for routine activities, significant cost-reduction can be achieved.
    ·        With Document Distribution, you can distribute documents that are managed using SAP document management manually or automatically depending on the processes you use in your company. By doing this you can ensure that the employees or the external partners responsible get up-to-date document data immediately for information or editing.
.      As well as the exchange of data, new, stricter product liability laws are meaning that the archiving of documents during the life cycle of a product is becoming increasingly significant. The quality of a product encompasses the production process and the whole organizational environment, as well as the product itself. A company that wishes to be certified for quality management (ISO standards 9000 to 9006) can only meet strict quality requirements by using high-performance document management functions.
SAP document management is more than equal to these complex requirements. It does more than just manage, it also coordinates. It allows you to automate the entire life cycle of a document, from document creation to document storage, from access to update. Each document can be accessed immediately from any computer in the network.
DMS is the recent development in SAP where it helps in integrating with all other modules.
Regarding Career, since this is related to managing documents along with maintiaining statuses and many other features, this DMS is used in all the fields wherever documents are being generated in large volume.
DMS is required in all areas along with all modules.

  • Plm module

    hi ,
i want to about plm module . pls tell me?

    Hi Sandya
The Pre-requisites to get into PLM would be a PP/MM knowledge along with some PS knowledge
PLM has many things in it but important parts are PDM (Product Data Management) and LIfe Cycle Managment of Product.
PDM covers Material Master, Bill Of Material (BOM), DMS (document Management System), ECM (Engineering Change Mangement), OCM (Order Change Managment) & Classification System.
With the knowledge of these objects you can start working as PLM Consultant
and needs thorough knowledge of Integration and some Innovations in these objects.
Rest will be like CFolders, CAD Integration, CProjects (PS Knowledge is a must)
which all are a add-on/plug-ins, these are easy to execute as they operate on WAS (Web Application Server)
Knowledge on Content Server for storaing the External Application Files (*WRD, *.XLS, *.ACD, *.PT etc etc...)

  • Document Tracking with Time Constraint

    Hi All
We have a requirment to track the statuses of Documents.
    1) Documents have different statuses like Create, Checked, Send for Review, Approved etc
    2) Each statuses have definite time period. For eg, after Create, the user responsible has 3 days to change it to "Checked" status
    3) If the user responsible does not change to "Checked" a reminder mail should be triggered.
    4) ie, the system should check whether the status has been changed to "Checked" after 3 days and if not , the mail should get triggered.
Please let me know whether we can have this in Std. DMS?
Also can we give time constraint to the status..? Like  as I mentioned. give 5 days to change the status to "Checked" for a pariticular user responsible?
If not how can we do this?

    Aby,
I think your case is a classic example for using the functionality of ECM ( Engineering Change Management) for document status management purposes.
ECM is a module created by SAP for enabling changes through coordinated change management procedures. Essentially  there is a change master and ECR/ECO related to the process.
ECR is an engineering change request and ECO is an engineering change order. If I visualise in your case, an ECR can be created for changing the statuses of a document. Once the ECR go through various statuses you can decide to finally release the ECR which creates an ECO and executes it.
Also you can configure Messaging under DMS customisation to trigger messages for document status change.
You can also trigger a workflow event based on each status change as has been suggested by some colleagues here.
My advise would be to use as much as system functionality possible for each of these custom requests.
    Sojan
Note : ECM can be used to trigger any coordinated changes in the sap system. It can be material, BOM,
    DMS, you name it.

  • DIR attached in Routing

    Hi Gurus,
Can anyone tell me a way to attach a DIR to Routing?
    Thanks,
    Paddy

    Hi Paddy,
For Routings you need to attach directly the DIR, as routing header/routing operation will be assigned to a Material master, M Master will have a link of DIR,
So always try to build a strong link b/w Material Master & DMS (with Material types & Document Types, Their Number Ranges, and Validations, Make it a Mandotary of attaching a DIR to M.Master so that your BOM, Routings and other process will have DIR)
    OR
You need to add "Task List" object in the Object link through workaround method & then you can assign a Task LIst as an Object to that particular Document Type.

  • Print DMS Document from Material master

    Hello All,
Can you advice on how to Print the DMS Document as a smartforms  from Material master ?

    Hi Arvind,
You have mentioned two different terminologies here.
    DMS
    Material Master
From DMS, you need to download the attachment and the same attachment can be converted using the FM CONVERT_TO_OTF then try displaying the same into your smartform.
I'm not aware of Material Master Document attachment.
Will reply soon with that solution also.

  • Material drawing from DMS to Smartform.

    Hello All,
I need to get the material drawing which is stored in DMS to a smartform. Please suggest the procedure to get this done.
    Thanks.

    Karthik,
Check the following link which gives some insight into how a possibe solution can be worked out.
Dynamic graphic for SAPscript  or SMARTFORM
However my conclusion is that there is no standard functionality which enables you to do this and there are only work arounds possible. Also you have to upload the graphics into SE78 editor each time before you display it on your form or script.

  • DMS - Object Links (Material master) is showing "Record Locked"

When looking at an info record in DMS, I am on the Object links tab for Material Master.  There is now a field called "Record Locked".  Haven't seen this field before.  What does this mean that the record is locked?  Is there something that needs to be done to unlock it?

    Dear experts,
I also seen this column. But problem is I am able to view this in my development client. But could not view in production.
Also my observation is if I am changing the document from the Objectlink e.g. Material Master this cloumn appears automatically and allows me to do the changes in the DIR.
But this happens in Development client same functionality I want to use in Production.
I could not find any config part regarding this.
Can any body help me on this to resolve this?
    Thanks in advance
