Materialized view is giving error ORA-22818 subquery expressions
Hi all,
i want to create one materilized view which will be combination of two tables and also having column sdatetime that is select from dual .
CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW E_VPN_MEMHISTORY
PCTFREE 5 PCTUSED 60
STORAGE (INITIAL 512K NEXT 1024K)
REFRESH Fast
AS SELECT (SELECT TO_CHAR(SYSDATE-1,'YYYYMMDDHH24MISS') FROM DUAL)sDateTime,m.sid,m.number,m.nAccUsg1,t.NACC1 FROM teacher m,student t where m.npid=t.npid and m.name=t.name(+);
ORA-22818: subquery expressions not allowed here
Cause: An attempt was made to use a subquery expression where these are not supported.
Action: Rewrite the statement without the subquery expression.
so what is the solution so that sdatetime should be there in view and it should be fast refresh.
please suggest its urgent

Well, if you put it that way:
I hereby suggest it's urgent....
HTH!
Seriously now, please read:

And the message should be clear:
ORA-22818: subquery expressions not allowed here

Hello,
I was trying to create a materialized view to describe the referential integrity between the tables in my schema:
create materialized view user_references
tablespace tbspc
build immediate
using index
refresh complete on demand next sysdate + 1
as
select uic.table_name to_table, uic.column_name to_column,
ucc.table_name from_table, ucc.column_name from_column
from user_ind_columns uic, user_constraints uc, user_cons_columns ucc
where uic.index_name = uc.r_constraint_name
and uc.constraint_name = ucc.constraint_name
and uc.owner=upper('my_schema');
I was able to create this MV in Oracle 9.2. It failed with the following error when I ran it against Oracle 10.1:
from user_ind_columns uic, user_constraints uc, user_cons_columns ucc
ERROR at line 9:
ORA-22818: subquery expressions not allowed here
Is not allowing subqueries in MV a new restriction in Oracle 10? Is there a workaround?
ThanksHello
This may be a bug in your version as I can do it successfully on 10.2
tylerd@DEV2> create materialized view user_references

9 where uic.index_name = uc.r_constraint_name

Hi ,
I am using Oracle report 10G
And trying to create report with dynamic table
SELECT &COL1, &COL2
FROM &TAB
If I put this on data model it gives below error
ORA-00936: missing expression
==> from
Can anybody advise to solve this issue.
Regards,
BrajeshLook in the Reports Builder Help:
If you want to use lexical references in your SELECT clause, you should create a separate lexical reference for each column you will substitute. In addition, you should assign an alias to each lexical reference.
Does adding the column alias solve the problem? -
ORA-22818: subquery expressions not allowed here
I am currently optimizing my report. Before, this report has only a single query for all. But when I have revised it having subquery it is performing much more faster. The problem is, I cannot perform a calculation on my query since subquery expressions are not allowed in 'group by'. Heres my sample report:
SELECT ab.batch_name,
ai.invoice_amount,
ai.invoice_date,
ai.invoice_num,
ai.invoice_id,
(SELECT pv.vendor_name
FROM apps.po_vendors pv
WHERE pv.vendor_id = ai.vendor_id)vendor_name,
aid.distribution_line_number,
SUM(aid.amount * (atc.tax_rate/100))amount,
(SELECT gcc.segment2
FROM apps.gl_code_combinations gcc
WHERE gcc.code_combination_id = aid.dist_code_combination_id)segment2,
(SELECT gcc.segment5
FROM apps.gl_code_combinations gcc
WHERE gcc.code_combination_id = aid.dist_code_combination_id)segment5
FROM apps.ap_batches_all ab,
apps.ap_invoices_all ai,
apps.ap_invoice_distributions_all aid,
apps.ap_awt_groups aag,
apps.ap_tax_codes_all atc
WHERE ab.batch_id = ai.batch_id
AND ai.invoice_id = aid.invoice_id
AND aag.group_id = aid.awt_group_id
GROUP BY ab.batch_name,
ai.invoice_amount,
ai.invoice_date,
ai.invoice_num,
ai.invoice_id,
(SELECT pv.vendor_name
FROM apps.po_vendors pv
WHERE pv.vendor_id = ai.vendor_id),
aid.distribution_line_number,
(SELECT gcc.segment2
FROM apps.gl_code_combinations gcc
WHERE gcc.code_combination_id = aid.dist_code_combination_id),
(SELECT gcc.segment5
FROM apps.gl_code_combinations gcc
WHERE gcc.code_combination_id = aid.dist_code_combination_id)
Can anyone advise on what to do? I really need the computation part but at the same time I would like to optimize my report using subqueries. You dont need to group by the actual inline SQL/sub-query but only the columns you used from the main query ( ie, aid.dist_code_combination_id, ai.vendor_id )
You also have to make sure that the in-line SQL you are using will return not more than 1 row.
Also, why not just use a normal join (or outer join if necessary)? -
Create Materialized view Error ORA-22818
Hi,
I am creating a materialized view based on a complex query with inline queries, below is a simplified version of the query:
CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW CM_FA_PEND_mvu
TABLESPACE CISTS_TH
BUILD IMMEDIATE
REFRESH COMPLETE
ENABLE QUERY REWRITE
AS
SELECT/*+ index (a,XT094S3) index (b,XT232S1) index (c, XM143P0) index (d, XM185S1)*/
a .fa_id,
a.fa_type_cd,
a.fa_status_flg,
a.disp_grp_cd,
(SELECT dl.descr
FROM ci_disp_grp_l dl
WHERE dl.disp_grp_cd = a.disp_grp_cd AND dl.language_cd = 'ENG')
disp_grp_cd_descr
FROM ci_fa a,
ci_sp_mtr_hist b,
ci_mtr_config c,
ci_reg d,
ci_fapr_faty e
WHERE a.fa_type_cd = e.fa_type_cd
AND a.sp_id = b.sp_id(+)
AND b.mtr_config_id = c.mtr_config_id(+)
AND c.mtr_id = d.mtr_id(+)
AND a.fa_status_flg = 'P'
AND e.fa_type_prof_cd = 'METERED'
AND ( (b.removal_dttm IS NULL))
I am getting error "ORA-22818: subquery expressions not allowed here". the problem is in columns "disp_grp_cd_descr" (when I remove this column from the query, the MView is created successfully)
Is using inline queries as columns a limitation on creating materialized view?
Is there a workaround ?
Thanks
AKNo version and no exception ... the full text is necessary the number alone insufficient ... to help you much other than recommend you read this:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10810/basicmv.htm#DWHSG8195
where it says:
"The SELECT clause in the materialized view creation statement defines the data that the materialized view is to contain. Only a few restrictions limit what can be specified. Any number of tables can be joined together. Besides tables, other elements such as views, inline views (subqueries in the FROM clause of a SELECT statement), subqueries, and materialized views can all be joined or referenced in the SELECT clause. You cannot, however, define a materialized view with a subquery in the SELECT list of the defining query. You can, however, include subqueries elsewhere in the defining query, such as in the WHERE clause."
Something you could have found in a second or two in the docs at http://tahiti.oracle.com by searching for "Materialized Views Restrictions"
But without your version and the actual error message this may not apply. -
Hi All,
I had created a IR report based on a table and it was working with no issues. But after few days, when I try searching using the IR search bar it shows "ORA-20001: get_dbms_sql_cursor error ORA-00936: missing expression" error message. I don't see any debug messages or errors in the debug window. The Finder drop down is empty too, there are no columns displayed to filter.
When I recreate the IR report(new page) based on the same table, It works fine and there are no issues with the search. But the old IR report search doesnt work. I have not modified the any thing in the old report after initial creation. Report uses Primary key based on a sequence.
What might have caused this issue?
Is there a way to intercept the search query from IR report?
Apex version - 4.2.3.00.08.
Any help on this appreciated.
Thanks,
JaganHi MK, as I had mentioned in my post, I don't see any logs in the debug window, query tab.
Can you please guide me how to check the query logs on search?
Thanks,
Jagan -
ERROR: ORACLE prepare error: ORA-00936: missing expression
Hello,
I am required to run "pass-through" Oracle SQL, to extract data from tables into SAS for processing and manipulation. My code (attached) reads and writes (executes) but with zero records to test first. I cannot get past the Prepare Error.
The query is very much like other queries that seem to work, but I cannot get past this prepare error. I have no other access to individauls with adequate knowledge of PL SQL, and as a last stop hoped others in the forum could quickly spot the source of errror.
Thanks very much in advance for any assistance.

184Hello Again ,
Wish Oracle was a bit more informative. Am using a SAS Institute Product called Enterprise Guide. A "hot fix" was installed to address an issue that the product appears unable to save the latest version of edited code changes (hence " BETWEEN between" remaining even after a prior edit). In any case, with the change, am now receiving this error:
" ERROR: ORACLE prepare error: ORA-00904: "PHRMCY_CLM_FACT"."LAST_SRVC_DT": invalid identifier". (Log file appears below)
-The error remains, regardless of whether one uses "pass through" code to pass the date range to Oracle (which looks ok from the log output below I believe), or if I hard code the date range into the PL SQL query itself.
-The Prepare error always appears at end of the inner SELECT.
-The Prepare error remains, with or without the GROUP BY clause.
Is there anything else here I am missing? Someone suggested a reserve word - but from other ANSI SQL versions, I do not see that is the case. I have consulted SAS Tech Support and SAS List Serve at University of GA. but nothing definitive from these sources. Have requested facility to be able to run Oracle directly, outside this SAS Institute product - in process.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks to everyone very much.
Jeff

I´m getting these error ORA-00936:missing expression runnig a Task on Info
I´m getting these error ORA-00936: missing expression, when running the SDE_ORA_Reverse_GLJournals task.
I´m setting the variables $$FILTER_BY_LEDGER_ID, $$FILTER_BY_LEDGER_TYPE, $$LEDGER_ID_LIST and $$LEDGER_TYPE_LIST in the DAC correctly. I see the values asigned to those variables in the parameters file( SDE_ORA_Reverse_GLJournals.txt)
But when the task is executing, those values comes empty. Does someone have encountered with the same mistake?
Thanks in advanced.Hi,
Im finding a similar issue but with task SDE_ORA_GLJournals,
the code is :
AND DECODE(, 'Y', GL.LEDGER_ID, 1) IN ()
AND DECODE(, 'Y', GL.LEDGER_CATEGORY_CODE, 'NONE') IN ()]
the parameters are also fine in the parameters file.
Has anyone found a solution or an explanation for this?
Thanks a lot, regards

Migrating from Sql server get SQL Error: ORA-00936: missing expression
All,
I'm migrating from Sql Server to oracle 10g and I'm getting a
"SQL Error: ORA-00936: missing expression" error
when the following create table statement is executed. It appears 10g does not like the CREATE DEFAULT xxxx as xxx syntax. Any ideas??
CREATE TABLE EnvCapitalOtherCostAtom (
EnvID CHAR(36) NOT NULL,
CapitalID CHAR(36) NOT NULL,
Seq FLOAT DEFAULT
CREATE DEFAULT D_Set_To_Zero

CREATE DEFAULT D_Record_Flags
AS 0
NOT NULL,
record_dqa NUMBER(5,0) DEFAULT
CREATE DEFAULT D_Record_DQA
AS 30
NOT NULL
);Hi Chris,
not sure SQL Server accepts the syntax you provided either. Even more I have checked MSDN(http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms173565.aspx) and they recommend:
Avoid using CREATE DEFAULT in new development work, and plan to modify applications that currently use it. Instead, use default definitions created using the DEFAULT keyword of ALTER TABLE or CREATE TABLE. CREATE DEFAULT will be removed in a future version of Microsoft SQL Server.
In Oracle you should do the same either use DEFAULT in CREATE TABLE statement or in ALTER TABLE, have a look at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14251/adfns_constraints.htm#sthref626 for more details.
The proper Oracle syntax for your DDL should be something like:
CREATE TABLE EnvCapitalOtherCostAtom (
EnvID CHAR(36) NOT NULL,
CapitalID CHAR(36) NOT NULL,
Seq FLOAT DEFAULT 0 NOT NULL,
AtomID CHAR(36) DEFAULT SYS_GUID() NOT NULL,
AtomName VARCHAR2(100) NOT NULL,
AtomName_dqa NUMBER(5,0) DEFAULT 10 NOT NULL,
CreatedOnTimeStamp TIMESTAMP(6) NOT NULL,
LastEditedOnTimeStamp TIMESTAMP(6) NOT NULL,
TFDubh_dqa NUMBER(5,0),
record_flags NUMBER(5,0) DEFAULT 0 NOT NULL,
record_dqa NUMBER(5,0) DEFAULT 30 NOT NULL

ORA-12008: error in materialized view refresh path with ORA-01652
I have a temp tablespace with 2 tempfiles of 2GB each (total 4GB) but still refresh of materialized view is failing with following error:
5646690 - BIS Materialized View Refresh Program
ORA-12008: error in materialized view refresh path
ORA-01652: unable to extend temp segment by 128 in tablespace TEMP1
I checked and temp ts is completly filled
SQL> select TABLESPACE_NAME, BYTES_USED, BYTES_FREE from V$TEMP_SPACE_HEADER;
TABLESPACE_NAME BYTES_USED BYTES_FREE
TEMP1 2147483648 0
TEMP1 2147483648 0
My question is how do I find out how much space I need for temp tablespace. what 's the best practise to size temp tablespace when running refresh. refresh is done by client who is submitting a request thru ebiz apps so I 'd like to size it correctly without having to keep guessing.
Thanks so much in advance for any helpHello,
Temp tablespace size depends how much sort by , order by operation your application performing. You can create new temp tablespace and drop old one with bigger file size
CREATE TEMPORARY TABLESPACE TEMP02 TEMPFILE '\mypath_to_temp\TEMP02' SIZE 256M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 256M MAXSIZE 8192M EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL;
ALTER DATABASE DEFAULT TEMPORARY TABLESPACE TEMP02;
Drop tablespace temp including contents; -- Make sure you delete on temp data files. Here is link for your reading purpose

Create materialized view across dblink gets ORA-980?
Hi!
Oracle 9.2.0.5. Creating a materialized view on on a synonym that points to a table across a dblink. I am getting a ORA-980 error that synonym translation is no longer valid. However selecting against the same synonym returns the rows or the count, etc. What am I missing here?
This is the code that is being run:
create materialized view gxp_sc_item as select * from sc_item_db2;
Hints, tips, ideas, etc. gratefully accepted!
Dave VenusHi!
Thanks for the reply!
Yes that is a solution, however why does the synonym work for everything else? I can't find anything that says this should not work.
Yes running 9.2.0.8 would be my first choice. The application vendor does not certify anything higher than 9.2.0.5.
Thanks!

Automatic Row Processing fetch error (ORA-00936: missing expression)
Hi there,
I have a bit of a problem setting up automatic row processing. The Apex processing is causing an error, but I'm not sure what PL/SQL code is being run (obviously, I don't have access to the Apex code) and all I get is the error following:

and then the following exception report on the page:
ORA-06550: line 1, column 17: PL/SQL: ORA-00936: missing expression ORA-06550: line 1, column 9: PL/SQL: SQL Statement ignored
Can anyone tell me how I can diagnose the problem?
Many thanks,

Am I missing something. Can any body help me with this.Hi,
The problem in your code is you haven't mentioned the server URL which is needed to subscribe.
dojox.cometd.init("cometd"); this is a wrong intitialization instead you have to use
dojox.cometd.init("http://localhost:9002/pubsub"); or something like this with an appropriate URL. In this URL /pubsub is context path and not the default channel you subscribe. This was the reason for your error (cometd init failed)
Please let me know if the problem get solved or still u have any queries regarding the same. -
