Materials Master data Improvement

Hi Guys,
I am starting a project in revamping out materials master data,as so many things went wrong  e.g material descriptions, base unit of measure, issue unit of measure and so on in terms of our mater data. This mater data is affecting Finance and Purchasing.
I would like to know what is the best naming conventions can i use for our materials descriptions and what other things should i put into considerations for this project.

Hi,
First classify the materials based on following criteria's
(a) Material Type (with Valuation Class)
(b) Material Group
(c) External Material Group and MPN (if required)
(d) Material description - Naming convention - "There are no Golden rules" - Based on your business needs you can decide the naming convention or you can initiate "Global Data Synchronization"
From SAP and Implementation point of view, internal number are very easy as well as from client maintenance (data preparation and Post Go-Live) angle.
SAP System provides lot of match codes ...I mean searching criteria based on multiple selection. Therefore, we shouldn't suggest and recommend external number range unless we get lot of merits from client business angle. Our approach should be System dependent rather than person dependent!!

  • Customer master data, Materials master data integration Integration in XI

    Dear Experts,
I need your help in the following cases
We are integrating MDM 5.5 to  ECC6.0 via XI 3.0.
    1. I am not able to understand  exactly what interfaces, mappings, integration scenarios from sap delivered MDM Business Content need to use for integrating  customer master data , Materials from MDM 5.5 to ECC 6, As we are using standard content.
    2. What idoc types  needs to be created in ECC  for these two scenarios ( customer, material /products).
    3. Is there any way to see the field mappings easily in XI , as the MDM standard business content for XI used xslt mapping programs .
Could you please give helping hand with step by step procedure for customer, material integration in XI.
Help is rewarded and greatly appreciated.
    Best Regards.
    nag.

    Hello Nag,
    1. I am not able to understand exactly what interfaces, mappings, integration scenarios from sap delivered MDM Business Content need to use for integrating customer master data , Materials from MDM 5.5 to ECC 6, As we are using standard content.
If you import Business Content of MDM 5.5. You should easily figure out that by looking at the Message Mapping for DEBMAS03 IDoc.
.2. What idoc types needs to be created in ECC for these two scenarios ( customer, material /products).
No need to create any Master IDocs in SAP system. You can find them with the name DEBMAS (For Customer) and MATMAS (Material).
    3. Is there any way to see the field mappings easily in XI , as the MDM standard business content for XI used xslt mapping programs .
If you really want to know how the XSL Mapping is programmed. You can export the XSL from XI  and open it in standard XML /XSL editor (say Stylus Studio ) to see how the output is programmed

    Hi,
Please check any documents created or the material or any transacctions.if any transaction is done over the material base unit of material can not be changed.reverse all the transactions happened over the material and try change.Or try to provide alternative unit of measure and its conversions in the UOM tab in the material master.

  • Export materials master data using LSMW?

    Hello gurus,
is it possible to export material master data using LSMW? Or are there other ways to do this (apart from manually selecting the desired data from the DB tables?)
It would be great if anyone could point me to some documentation on this.
We would like to export the master data from one SAP system and import it in another one.
    Thanks in advance
    Alicia

What I usually do is transferring the data via ALE (BD10) as IDOC to a file (instead of a different system). This file can even be located in an shared folder that can be accessed from both SAP systems
Then I use LSMW in target system, map IDOC to IDOC (almost done automatically) and import the data from this file, and beeing able to exchange field values if necessary.

    Hi all,
I am an executive IT recruiter for the Lucas Group.  We are the largest privately owned recruiting firm in the nation and deal only in Permanent placement.  Please contact me at 972-201-1256 if you feel you would be a good fit for a Master Data Admin in Materials Management in the chicago area.  My client is looking to hire immedaitely and I could have an interview witin 2 days set-up.

SAP MDM is master data management server. as in our SAP R/3 Customer Master, Vendor Master, Material Master, Etc.  These Master Data we are maintained in conventional way means individual SAP R/3 and non-SAP itself.
However, these Master Data can store in single point source of truth and then distribute to all after consolidating the master record data. First, we will get the all Master Data (ex. Customer, Material, Etc) from Different sources (ex. SAP or non-SAP or DB) using the scenario
SAPR/3---> XI--> MDM (Outbound to SAP R/3 or Inbound to MDM)
    Second,
Then we will do the all the necessary things in MDM.
Third, we will syndicate/ distribute the consolidated Master Data to all the Systems using this scenario
MDM-> XI-> SAPR/3 (Outbound to MDM or Inbound to SAP R/3)
what is acheived out here is data uniqueness acorss the system. this is one real world scenario

  • WM Material Master Data - extend materials inquiry

I have a question regarding WM Material Master Data - extend materials
what is the best practice for extending materials to Warehouse Management views 1 and 2. We have 1 new warehouse with fixed bins 001 Pallet, 002 Racking, 003 Floor, 004 Bins, 005 Chemicals, 099 Quarantine.  My question is should we extend 3000 materials to each of the designated fixed bins to the Plant/Warehouse Number/Storage Type for WM views 1 & 2?
    Thanks,

    Hi
As suggested by Raj you can use Mass maintenance option MM17 to update the WM1 and WM2 view
    or
You can use the LSMW option to upload from external  file (e.g. xls, CSV files)

  • Upload SNP master data for future Materials

    Hello Everybody,
I am working on SCM 2007 and due to client's business requirements, I need to load the SNP master data of the new materials which presently do not exist in my R/3 system and will be produced/introduced after six months.
Client wants to do the forecasting for such materials from now onwards. Since, these materials do not exist in R/3, I cannot CIF and bring the master data in my APO system. Please suggest, how can I load SNP master data for such materials. Is there any standard tool available for the same?
    Kind Regards,
    Rahul

    Hi,
If you require product locations only for forecasting I guess you will require only products and locations to be define in APO. I would suggest that you can create a seperate Model for this product locations which is not their in ECC and do the forecasting if it satisfies your business requirement, the reason being once you create master data directly in APO it will not be possible to CIF the master data fom ECC which will create inconsistency.
You can use LSMW also to upload product and location if you are not defining comples parameters like Time phase cost in Product location & their are not many validation which I assume will be the case.
    Thanks,

  • How to avoid material master data migration of inactive materials to SRM

We are replicating material master from R3 4.6b to SRM 5.0 system.  Under COMMPR01 , we can see the product status as deleted or locked .
How we can avoid the master data replication of  materials which are already flagged as inactive (deletion) in R3.
    Pls suggest.
    Regards,
    Avinash

    Hi
    Please try this ->
    1) It is possible to use product_id without needing to replicate material masters from R/3 to SRM. For this to work you have to set the flag "Do not check product" in customizing
(see SRM Server > Master Data > Define External Web Services).
We do it like that and it works perfect for us. Only annoyance is, that we have to put leading zeroes in the product_id field.
"Do not check product" is used to avoid product check in SRM (to avoid replicating products into SRM), so they are not checked against SRM product master.
But this is not related to R/3 check.
In a classic or extended classic scenario, SRM will check that this material exists in the backend, especially for the current plant (location), before creating follow on doc.
As you created your catalog item without zeros, I guess SRM is sending this material to R/3 that does not recognize it.
Then you have this error message. Adapt your product IDs to be aligned with R/3 material master.
    2) Try to run the report BBP_PRODUCT_SETTINGS_MW, there you select user as SRM instead of CRM and select service product active
    3) Did you already checked OSS note 722600 and 366135 ? Also, Check the SAP OSS Notes -  786345, OSS Note 456753. It talks abt the internal and external representation of product ID in catalog and R3 system.
    Related useful pointers ->
Product xx does not exist in plant xx or it has been flagged for deletion
Stock reservation movement (field XWAOK) is not flagged in ECC ??
Product XXX  does not exist in plant YYY or it has been flagged for delete.
    material deletion flag
Product XXX does not exist in plant YYY or it has been flagged for deletion
Hope this will help. Do let me know.

  • How to delete master data of materials from sap tables

how to delete master data of materials from sap tables...its needed now.
i know its not recommended but still we need to do this. give me the best possible approach.
    regards,
    suneetha

    Hi,
I would suggest you not to write your own code to delete the entries.
BAPI_MATERIAL_DELETE, this would mark all materials selected for deletion. But still the material would exist in SAP.
Another solution: Delete a material manually and in another session execute the transaction SM04. This would display the tables which get locked when you do the operation, Then you can write your own code to delete the material numbers from all the related tables.

  • How do we improve master data load performance

    Hi Experts,
Could  you please tell me how do we identify the master data load performance problem  and what can be done to improve the master data load performance .
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi,
-Alpha conversion is defined at infoobject level for objects with data type CHAR.
A characteristic in SAP NetWeaver BI can use a conversion routine like the conversion routine called ALPHA. A conversion routine converts data that a user enters (in so called external format) to an internal format before it is stored on the data base.
The most important conversion routine - due to its common use - is the ALPHA routine that converts purely numeric user input like '4711' into '004711' (assuming that the characteristic value is 6 characters long). If a value is not purely numeric like '4711A' it is left unchanged.
We have found out that in customers systems there are quite often characteristics using a conversion routine like ALPHA that have values on the data base which are not in internal format, e.g. one might find '4711' instead of '004711' on the data base. It could even happen that there is also a value '04711', or ' 4711' (leading space).
This possibly results in data inconsistencies, also for query selection; i.e. if you select '4711', this is converted into '004711', so '04711' won't be selected.
-The check for referential integrity occurs for transaction data and master data if they are flexibly updated. You determine the valid InfoObject values.
    - SID genaration is must for loading transaction data with respect to master data, to cal master data at bex level.

  • GR Doc & GR Slip Printing for materials without master data

We need to print the GR document, GR Slip for materials which doesn't have the master data ( Ex: Materials with long text, material group maintained).
Kindly let me know the requirements for executing this task.

For printing GR slips we need to maintain a few fields in the master data for the material. In case of materials without master data, these fields will not be maintained. So, in this case, how to print the GR Slips is the clarification whcih I would like to have.

  • Master data Issue  ---   materials have unassigned or # values ...!!

    Hello Experts,
I am facing an issue that the Customer Data is missing in a BEx Report.
    Data Flow is   2LIS_13_VDITM  --> DSO1 --> Merging DSO -->  Cube --> Multiprovider --> Bex Report.
Exact issue is Customers in the Bex Report  has unassigned to Sales Office, Sales Group, Sales District.
The only reason a customer should show up under u201Cunassignedu201D or u201C#u201D is if itu2019s improperly set up in the system.
customers are assigned with two values. one which has data and the other which has unassigned value.
I wanted to know, how do i check if the matierials are valid to have unassigned Values ?
Checked the Merging DSO and saw that there are actually values assigned values for the affected matierials.
After that checked the Cube data values are displayed except the Master Data values.
I guess..its completely related to Master data. I would like to know how can i resolve this issue.
Please reply me if you face this kind of master data issue in your expeiriance.
    Thanks,
    SN.

    Hi,
Are Sales Office, Sales Group, Sales District are attributes of Customer?
In case they are, then the customers will be unassigned to Sales Office, Sales Group, Sales District in case the data for these attributes is loaded to the customer attributes.
and also check if the customer characteristic is properly assigned in the multiprovider.
    Check if it helps.

  • MDM for Managing Master data for PP & QM Modules

We have studied the various offerings of SAP MDM for Materials, Suppliers, Financials
These are definitely areas where we would like to automate using MDM  and thereby improve Quality, Turn around Time and eliminate errors, redundancy etc.
In these  areas we have also succeeded to a some extent in controlling the maintenance process by way of centralizing and building checks and controls in the Configuration of different Modules.
The main pain areas in terms of Master data have been in PP and QM Modules
PP-   Maintenance of BoM and Recipe - which is based on process package finalized by R&D Section.
R&D scientists are not so familiar with SAP and SAP Settings
Process Package is usually a simple document- defining specific quantities of the different components required to produce a Specific quantity of a Product  and also descibles the procedure of the entire production process, but when it translates into a Recipe and Bom- different tables in SAP come into play.
Eventually the BoMs and Recipes are created by manual input of information from the R&D Process Package
Similarly the QM master data  - Inspection Plan in SAP -  is based on Specification finalized by the Quality wing of R&D
R&D scientists are not so familiar with SAP and SAP Settings
Specification  is usually a simple document defining the different tests to be performed for inspecting a material and the expected range in which the results should fall in order for the material to be accepted- but when it translates into a Recipe and Bom- different tables in SAP come into play.
Eventually the Specifications are created by manual input of information from the R&D Process Package
There is no direct relation between the original R&D Document and the SAP Master data- Verification is a laborious manual process.
We are wondering whether SAP MDM would have the scope to cover these two areas
    Tks

    Hi Hari,
If I understand correctly, you are doing a feasibility study about and trying to find out if standard offering in SAP MDM supports your requirement of linking the master data and R&D documents.
If thats the case I guess you can design a solution based on your business requirement. For this you can either create a custom repository or extend the currently offered standard business content. You can link the documents to the master data, also store these as pdf/image/links etc.
    Thanks,
    Ravi

  • MDM to Syncronize Suppliers Master, Materials Master and Service Masters

I'm in charge of MDM in a big Holding, today we have custom systems to ensure the quality of these masters and synchronize between them.
In the tree scenarios (Materials, Suppliers, Services) we have a content approval workflow and tools to improve content's quality. Apart from this we synchronize the content with tree SAP R/3 and with other systems.
We have a lot of problems with the backend field's validations, for example, when I synchronize a Supplier that is from USA the R/3 validates the NIF number format (from customizing settings), but our application maybe has another validation and the supplier is rejected by R/3.
    My Questions are:
Can MDM manage approval workflows per each master data with different roles?
Can MDM synchronize Masters Validations from customizing? To avoid differences between MDM’s validations.
Is possible with MDM improve the materials content? With for example some custom business’ rules.
I'm sorry my English, I hope that this was clear.
    Thanks in advance,
    Best regards,

    Hi Sebastian,
To be able to provide you with in-depth information, your business scenario needs to be analyzed in more detail. However, I can give you some general statements:
The current focus in SAP MDM is on "Business Partner" and "Product" master data, and SAP MDM generally supports the concept of approval workflows.
SAP MDM incorporates the SAP Solution Manager for comparing and distributing synchronized Customizing settings (between Master Data Server and different SAP R/3 or CRM systems connected as Master Data Clients).
The MDM scenarios are generally aimed at improving data quality in a heterogeneous landscape, including Product data.
For more detailed information, please contact your SAP contact or send your request directly using http://www.sap.com/contactsap/.

  • How to handle heavy load caused by master data in XI

    Hi all,
We have a situation where masterdata has to be send through XI. As you all would agree, the initial load for master data (done through the BD10,12,14 etc) is heavy. Even though we have low priority queues defined in our XI server for master data, our server’s performance is getting affected heavily. Any suggestion to improve the situation would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    cheers
    danus

    Hi Danus,
We manage this on the R/3 side. Schedule multiple jobs to run BD10 at spaced intervals of time with different variants. For example:
    10:00 - Materials 1 - 10000
    10:15 - Materials 10001 - 20000
    10:30 - Materials 20001 - 30000
