MATLAB attachments don't open in TextEdit

I understand how to set applications for types on a Mac. However, there is a problem.
When I receive an email with a .m file (MATLAB), it should open in TextEdit (on a Mac) because that is the application I have set on my machine. I have also set unknown types and plain text to open using TextEdit. But Thunderbird opens a copy of the email message in another window and includes the .m file as an attachment. It seems to ignore that the default application is set to TextEdit.

If you open Preferences(or AppMenu/Options/Options)/Attachments/Incoming, is there an entry for .m content type files? If so, delete it by clicking the Action drop-down, OK, restart TB, double-click (Open) a .m attachment, and set the default application for .m files; if TextEdit isn't displayed, click the 'Open with' drop-down, Other... and browse to the TextEdit program.
On my Win 7 system, the default text editor is already offered as the default program for opening .m attachments, and the attachment is displayed inline as plain text.

  • Attachments don't open in PDF review

    Hello,
I cannot open any of the attachments in my  PDF shared review (I use Acrobat X). All our reviews are stored on a sharepoint site, btw.
I see all the attachment icons (paperclips/push pins) but when I double click on them (or right click, 'open file'), nothing happens.
I checked the 'attachments' folder that is automatically created when you start a shared review, and it shows all the attached files (in .bin format) just like all my other reviews, however for some obscure reason I can't open them in the review. Could someone shed some light on this?
    Thanks for your help

  • Incoming gif attachments don't open

The incoming gif attachments open as icons with no content.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I believe with Leopard, animated GIFs support was discontinued in Mail. It might be an animated GIF you are trying to load.

  • Document attachments don't open when tapped on iphone

I've recieved docs in my email (not outlook, just hotmail, outlook another nightmare)but can't open them. The file names are supported; excel and word docs both cases. I tap them, the phone behaves as though its looking for something and then nothing appears, no document, no icon, no nothing. The phone has been synced but not set up with my email account, other than just reading my hotmail account from the browser.
Is there a step I'm missing? Do I need to do something in settings for email to make this work?

Yes, after you have selected them to download, after they download you must touch the screen again to open them.
    That's it!!

  • Attachment don't open en previewer is not working in Outlook 2013

When i get office attachments in an e-mail in outlook 2013 on a windows 8.1 pro.
The attachments don't open. And the previewer of outlook tels me that the content can not be previewed.
Any one any idea what can be the solution to open and preview these documents?

    Hi,
Did you get any error message when you try to open attachments?
What's the file type of the attachments? Can you open and preview a Word or Excel attachment in Outlook? By default, Microsoft Outlook 2013 blocks potentially unsafe attachments (including .bat, .exe, .vbs, and .js files) that can contain
    viruses.
In addition, please try to clean out the Temporary Outlook Files folder to check if it helps. See:

Please let me know the result.

  • Scheduled Webi Reports Don't Open on iOS's MS Exchange Mail

    Hi all,
I am not sure if this is the right place to write this post but I will try anyway.
We are using BO 4.0 SP6 and schedule webi reports as attached xlsx of pdf in e-mails.The problem is that the attached pdf's and excel files don't open right away in iPhone's native mail application when using MS Exchange. A tiny question mark shows up on the top corner of the attachment and when you tap on it, it asks which application to use to open it. We can choose iBooks app for example to view the file. We would like the attachment to open right away as we tap on it as it does usually.
    Here are some test results:
-We have observed this issue on iOS 8. However, there are rumors that it started with iOS 7. Same rumors suggest that it would work fine before iOS 7.
-We use iOS' native mail application with a MS Exchange account set up.
-We have also tested it with a gmail account set up next to the exchange account. The attachment opened with no problem.
-If someone forwards the mail received from the BO server, to another exchange mail, the attachment opens just fine.
-We have no problem opening other exchange mails with attachments on mobile.
We suspect, the exchange mail can't confirm the sender address thus can't trust the attachment if it is really a pdf-excel file. So we tried scheduling the webi report with a valid mail address in the sender information box but it didn't work.
Has anyone came across such a problem?
I know this issue involve SAP, Apple and Microsoft and each one will point the other for the blame. But any help will be appreciated.
    Thank you

    Hi Emre,
Though this appears on Mobile, this belongs to Webi Product team. As the schedule of Webi reports and the email output would be controlled by them. They can work with Apple to identify the cause and fix the defect. Hence, you can post your question in SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence
I would also recommend that you contact Webi Product Support through the official channel http://support.sap.com/incident

  • Pdf email attachments won't open

After upgrading to IOS 7 the pdf email attachments are not opening...just says "loading" and never loads.

    Hi DVFFTI,
I'm not sure from your description if you're having the same problem I was having.
In my case, PDF attachments would only display as a single image of the first page of the PDF.
The only option I had was to Copy or Save the image. I couldn't open a preview of the full PDF in Mail or tap to 'Open in...' a different app.
Turns out that I had too many apps on my iPhone that can read PDFs, for example, Dropbox, Evernote, iBooks, Kindle, etc. even a Canon app for remote printing.
Removing one of them fixed the issue for me.
I remember this happening before and seeing other threads about this, so I don't think it's specific to iOS 7.
Give it a go and see if it fixes your problem. Hope it helps.

  • I close the textedit programme , open Pages, click on the 09 pages file to be opened and the message "The document "7-09 receipts" could not be opened. TextEdit cannot open files in the "Pages document"

I close the textedit programme , open Pages, click on the 09 pages file to be opened and the message "The document “7-09 receipts” could not be opened. TextEdit cannot open files in the “Pages document”
What's this??? How do I open the pages doc???   Kalavati

You have obviously not done what you think you have done.
You have tried to open a .pages document in TextEdit which can't read them.
If you are confused which program you are in look to the top left of the menu.
You can either drag the .pages file onto the Pages icon on the Dock, open it from within Pages' Open dialog, double click on it or right mouse click > open with.

  • Jnlp file downloads then opens in TextEdit

Have multiple Macs running 10.5.7 w/latest software update. Each trying to use the same web application. Web app downloads a .jnlp file. For most Macs, it launches Java and life is good. On a lone Mac (so far), the .jnlp file downloads, but is opened by TextEdit. Check File Info, and it's associated with TextEdit, so there's the culprit. On the working Macs, the file is associated with Java Web Start.app. So, I figured I'd change the association on the Mac that's broken, but I can't find Java Web Start.app. It doesn't show up in Spotlight, so I use the locate command in Terminal and find it listed as being found in /Applications/Java. This folder does not exist on any of the Macs in this scenario. Where is it?! How do I fix the association for .jnlp files to be Java Web Start.app?
    Thanks!

I have the same problem. After running the latest Java update, Java Web Start is gone. I have Xcode installed on my machine, but still don't have Java Web Start anywhere on my drive.
I attempted to restore it to /Applications/Utilities/Java using Time Machine, but when I launched it, it merely crashed.
I understand that part of the Java update was to patch a vulnerability that could be exploited through Java applications launched from the web, but I was under the impression that there was a fix that didn't simply involve disabling Java Web Start. Is there a new version of Java Web Start out there that doesn't crash with the new Java update? Alternately, is there a way to run a jnlp file without a working version of Java Web Start?
I have a program that I absolutely need to have running in the next 30 minutes -- which doesn't give me enough time to roll back the whole update. Is it too much to expect Apple to fix what they broke with this update?

Once again, I wasn't criticizing. I am curious. I don't understand why people are interested in this feature and would like to know why so that I can possibly make better suggestions. But, if rather than answer a simple question, you want to cast aspersions, obviously you're not the person I should be asking.
    Best of luck.

  • Email attachments don't work

can someone help or explain why some of my attached won't open. I have the 8310 curve with ATT upgraded to the 4.5 os. I have noticed that the attachments won't open when that happens the select button don't work or the menu button don't work. can it be that the file is to large...I can't quite remember if all attachments worked under the 4.2 os

I just did a quick Google search and empower IS compatible with 4.5.

  • IMAP message retrieval stops working & attachments don't fully download

    Hi,
I have been trying to use OSX Mail for the last 60 days and have gotten everything set up, but I have been getting intermittent issues every few days.
I'm using IMAP for my mail. Note, I used to use Outlook on Windows before and I never had these issues.
    1) Stops downloading new messages. Every few days/etc. Mail will stop downloading new messages. If I go to my online box through our company's web mail I'll have tons of new mail.
If I check the Activity Monitor for Mail, it shows itself as stuck on sync/copy/add messages from server. The only way I can get it to download new mail is to remove the account from Mail and then add it on again. I have to do this every couple of days or more just to use Mail. I've listed several images of the activity monitor every time Mail stops retrieving messages:

    2) Entire message attachments don't download. 90% of the attachments in my messages are not fully downloaded. So when I try to save/open the file it's incomplete.
I hope you guys can help me fix/solve these issues. All my software is up to date. It would be nice to use Mail. I really like the software, but I can't deal with removing and then adding the account every day. It's very inconsistent.
Thank you for all your help!

I'm having the same problem. The attached images on received messages do not fully load. When I check in webmail all the images are just fine but in Mail.app they are corrupted. They show half the image and half gray area, and sometimes the image is all gray.
    Any solutions?
EDIT: By the way I'm using a AIM IMAP account.

  • Attachments simply quit opening or open incorrectly on my ipad.

PDF attachments just quit opening correctly.  I generally get the first page in the e-mail body, and no options to download the remaider of the file.  Other times, it downloads, but will not open.  This just started about a week ago.  I use 7.1.1 and have not recently added any apps or changed the software.  Any ideas?

Try closing all apps on the iPad and then reset the device. No data will be lost when you reset your iPad. It is like rebooting your computer.
In order to close apps in iOS 7, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

There are some keyboard commands (shortcuts) you can use instead of having to go to the Apple menu -
Control-Eject          This brings up the Restart-Sleep-Cancel-Shutdown window.
Command-Option-Eject          This puts the machine to sleep.
Command-Control-Eject          This closes all apps and restarts the machine.
