Matrix in MDM

Hi all
can someone explain the concept of matrix in MDM and how is it used for storing Variants for the same product?
What will be the performance issue if any?Do we have any restrictions on number of master and slave relationships?
Can anyone who has worked on this scenario justify its usefulness?
No links please.
Thanks in advance
Ravi

Hi Ravi,
Though I have not actually worked on Matrix but will share how much I know and the stuff i had collected.
Please refer to the link below that contains the fair information about Matrix and also how to configure it.Refer from page no. 12.One more suggestion from my side is:Use SAP's standard shipped Article repository because it is configured for the Matrix application so you have to do few things only.
[https://websmp208.sap-ag.de/installMDM] -> Installation -> MDM 5.5 SP06 IT Scenario Configuration Guide
Once your repository is Matrix enabled (by right clicking on the repository and enabling the Matrix support property), Add Master option will be enabled in the Data manager.By which you can actually create Master and variants relationship but this functionality will be visible only through iViews that u will deploy on your portal (stated in the document mentioned above).
Once you have created Master and its variants and they are sharing some common fields(whose Matrix type have been selected as Master in the Console) then if you change the Master field of the master record, it will be reflected in the corresponding variants also.
Note: If you add the record using Add Master option then that record cannot be deleted unless you have configured all the necessary settings. So it would be better if you try this on some dummy repository.

  • MDM Matrix Application

    Hi All,
i need help in understanding how we can leverage MDM Matrix Applicaiton functionality in MDM to manage article master particularily variants. How does this application works and can we use this application in standalone MDM instance or do we require web services such as portal to be configured with MDM to make use of this functionality.
Any helpful documents would be great help.

  • Problem in Matrix Functionality

    Hi,
Need some help on Matrix Functionality.
    1. I m using std SAP Article Reposttory and have performed all basic steps to enable Matrix functionality in MDM as per following link.
    Matrix in MDM
    2. Basic setting like assigning the URL's, making fields Martix-" MAster", Key Mapping etc also i have done.
3.In the record mode if i go to Web tab, the connection is getting established with the portal but there's a message on screen"Matrix item not selected, or multiple items not from same matrix group." My Ques is how do i move ahead now and create variants in records pane.I cannot see any matrix formation in data manager scree.
    4. Also in the Taxonomy mode when i click on web tab nothing gets displayed in the screen.
Please let me know which basic setting im missing upon.
Another question: Does MDM 7.1 support matrix functionality? MDMMatrix_App.ear and MDMMatrix Server.ear are not available on SAP MP for MDM7.1. So can we use these installables which we have for MDM 5.5 in MDM 7.1 to work on Matrix Appl'n.
    Thanks

  • MDM- Matrix Application Installation (.EAR)

    Hello,
I would like to install the Matrix Application EAR file on the WebAS as mentioned in the installation guide. It says "Install the .EAR files on Web AS using the SDM in the SAP NetWeaver Developer". How do I proceed with that? I tried deploying the .EAR with the SDM directly but it resulted in the error. Am I missing something here???

  • SRM MDM UoM

    Hi
I am loading a new MDM SRM Catalog repository with a supplier file. The supplier items are for hire i.e. computers, cabins, etc.
We want to load the catalog items that can be hired/leased. However in the search interface we can only select a quanttiy to add to the Shopping cart. i.e. we can add quantity of 3 computers. However for example we require to be able to order a quantity of items for a fix time period. i.e. we want to setup the catalog so that the end user can order 3 computers for 5 weeks and therefore the total price is calculated based on the weekly rate and quantity ordered.. We are not sure how to handle this in SRM MDM. In Requisite we had the items in the catalog and then created an 'Attribute Matrix' to allow the user to specify a Quantity of an item AND a period of time(which the end user could select while searching the catalog).
Any ideas how to set this up in SRM MDM. Upon loading the supplier file in the search interface we can only select the Quantity before adding to the shopping cart but cannot specifiy the time period
    Thanks
    Ben.

    Hi Ben,
in this case I would advice to create your own EForm application, where you can set up a time frame for the item. This would be the easiest way to get a solution here.

  • Data of FI, SRM and R3 in MDM

    hi!
    here's my question;
what information should i take for the three systems?
what happen if i create the mdm schema with all the fields, and tables that are used in FI, SRM and R3 and create a big repository with one main table of products, and a big subtable of suppliers?
    the performance will be affected?
is there any documentation that explains how many subtables you can use?  or what to do in this cases?
    thanx

In general this is not a good idea.  There are several reasons for this:
First is performance.  In order to mimic the complexity of the ERP data models, you would have to incorporate a large number of qualified lookup tables.  The more complex relationships you have in your MDM data model, the worse the performance will get.  MDM has to index all of the attributes you configure (for keyword or sorting) in the data model which has a hit on the memory of the server.  Additionally, your Import and Syndication Servers are going to choke if you have a large attribute set.
Next, in SAP there are some tables that have a matrix of lookup values.  For example, sales office field in the sales area is dependant upon a configuration which is a combination of sales area plus other things.  So you have the following affect:
    x [ 1, 2, 3]
    y [ 4, 5, 6]
    z [ 7, 8, 9]
If I select X, I want 1,2, and 3 to be available to me.  If I select X and Y, then I want 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 to be available to me.  This sort of complexity is very difficult to rebuild into MDM.
Third, there are some attribute sets in ECC which have proven to be incredibly difficult to build into MDM for technical reasons.  For example, Partner Functions.
You want to design your data model to be restricted to enterprise level attributes (if possible).  This gives a more global view of the entire landscape.

    Hello
We have read installation guide "SAP Netweaver MDM 5.5 SP05", page 22, we want install MDM Connector and MDM Java API, in "installation procedure", it is indicate
    1. Extract the files from the archives.
The javadoc folders contain an HTMLbased

describe the Java API. Make sure you
    retain the directory structure.
    2. Deploy the SDA files on Web AS

  • MDM Security Requirements

    Hello All:
I am new to MDM Security Administration and would like to know how and what controls are available in the system. (Example controls on able, fields etc)?
I am trying to compile a Task/Function Matrix which will help the functional teams convey their access requirement in the system.
    Help is much appreciated.
    Khurram

    Hi Khurram,
I am new to MDM Security Administration and would like to know how and what controls are available in the system. (Example controls on able, fields etc)?
I am trying to compile a Task/Function Matrix which will help the functional teams convey their access requirement in the system.
MDM security is largely maintained by the presence of roles and users. We can have roles defined in MDM which will have proper authorizations. We can then create users and then assign them roles so that we can maintain the security in MDM. This all can be done through MDM console.
These authorizations ensures that only users who have access or read/write authorization will be able to perform theie respective tasks.
This is what is mentioned in SAP Help documentation in this regard.
    A.              MDM Repository Security
A traditional SQL DBMS allows you to define basic user-level security to prevent unauthorized access to the database. You can specify the tables to which each user has access, granting at the table level either: (1) no access to the table; or (2) complete read/write access to the table, including access to all of its fields and records.
By contrast, MDM supports a dramatically more flexible multidimensional security scheme that provides much more granular control over which users can access an MDM repository, which functions they can perform, and which tables, fields, and records they can access. The MDM security scheme includes:
    ●      Users. A user represents an entity that can connect to and access the MDM repository. Each user has a user name and password, and is assigned one or more roles that collectively specify the complete set of privileges for that particular user.
    ●      Roles. Each role specifies a set of privileges to access each of the MDM repositoryu2019s tables, fields, lookup record values, and records, and to perform each of the repository functions. The same role can be assigned to more than one user.
    ●      Privileges. For each repository function, you can either prevent or allow the role to perform the function, and for each table and field, you can grant the role full read/write access or read-only access.
    ●      Constraints. For the Masks table and some lookup tables (those referenced by at least one single-valued lookup field and no multi-valued lookup fields), you can specify the set of masks or lookup values that should be visible and accessible for the role.
Precisely defining each role u2013and then assigning one or more roles to each useru2013 provides very fine control over who can access an MDM repository and how they can access it.
You can define repository security from within the MDM Console by working on the following administrative tables, which are located under a repositoryu2019s Admin node in the Console Hierarchy tree:
    ●      Roles. Defines the sets of functional permissions, access privileges, and record constraints that can be assigned to MDM user names.
    ●      Users. Defines the MDM user names that can access the MDM repository and manages their role assignments.
Within a SQL-based DBMS, you can use views to precisely control field- and record-level access by various users. However, views are cumbersome to manage, and more importantly, degrade system response, often creating severe performance bottlenecks.
    B.                  Console-Level Repository Security
Recall that MDMu2019s multi-level security model supports granular, role-based repository access to functions and data from within MDM client applications. This multi-level security model extends to administrative functions within the MDM Console itself.
The MDM Console security scheme includes:
    ●      Users
Repository administrators must connect to an MDM repository with an MDM user name and password before any administrative tasks can be performed in the MDM Console.
    ●      Roles
The roles assigned to an administratoru2019s MDM user name determine which administrative functions are permitted or restricted for that administrator in the MDM Console.
    ●      Privileges
Administrative, Schema, and Change Tracking functional groups on the Roles table enable granular control over access to all MDM Console functions.
With these features, you can precisely define limited administrative roles for each of your administrators or administrative tasks. You can then assign these targeted roles to users instead of the Admin role, which retains full access to all MDM privileges.

  • Matrix Application Error - in the WEB pane

    Hello,
After successful installation of the Matrix .EAR files now when we try to see Matrix in the WEB pane, it results in error "An Error has occurred Please see log for details".
Can somebody please address the following questions?:
    1. Where is the log file located that I can check for details?
    2. Is there a demo already available with the data that can be looked into as example?
    3. Is there an description available how one can set up the Matrix scenario, something like the Business Package guide that we have for MDM iviews?
I would await a quick response if possible. Thanks much.
    Best regards,
    Dharmi
