Matrox MXO or Black Magic Design Intensity Pro

Need a little guidance on this, I need to be able to monitor my video out for color grading and going with the DV>camera>component cable>monitor combination isn't working anymore. I work with a mix of both HD from the HVX and DV so I need something that I can use to view both on an external production monitor. I've seen a lot of great reviews on the MXO and I'm leaning towards that way, but I have a dual monitor set up and don't want to lose that, which is why I started looking at the Intensity Pro. If anyone has/is using one or both of these devices, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks

Well, I have used the MXO (wrote an extensive review on it too) and find it to be great. A good low cost HD monitoring solution. The good thing about it is that you can balance your Apple display to color bars, with the BLUE ONLY option. The Intensity doesn't allow for that. Unless you connected it to a production monitor that allows it to be set up to bars.
When I color correct, I typically only use one monitor. But I know what you mean.

  • Black magic design UltraStudio mini doesn't work with FCPX

Does anyone have an idea why FCPX does not recognize the Black Magic Design UltraStudio Mini monitor?
The mac pro (late 2013) sees it in the thunderbolt bus. Adobe Premiere sees it and uses it just fine, but FCPX doesn't.
in the FCPX preferences for AV output it says: no device found.

    Premiere Pro CC 2014 8.1
    FCPX 10.1.4
    BMD Desktop Video Version 10.3.2
so all apps & drivers are up to date.

As I put in a separate post. I can't find how to enable the high contrast feature in ADE. I can't find the command in the keyboard command help - but then again I'm trying to read black on white which is very hard for me.
ADE might not officially support Magic but the problem I have is that if I enable the magnification feature within Magic then the ADE window freezes and wont change. This is a problem which needs sorting out.

  • I want to use my Black magic Multi-Brigde Pro with Premiere. That is possible correct?

I want to use my Black magic Multi-Brigde Pro with Premiere. That is possible correct?

    Hi PragueGolem.
Yes, it's possible to use the Blackmagic Multibridge Pro with Premiere but it's also complicated to use the card with video and audio together.
I use a mac pro with the Multibridge Pro 1 and need to use an audio card too, because the card makes always problems with audio in Premiere CC.
In the audio hardware settings tab you have no selection possibility for the card. You have to select your standard system audio and to route this in Premiere. In your system audio panel you have the multibridge as standard card set.
Only for a short time it was possible for me to use the card with audio and video but after the last Premiere update I have to use the audio card again. I spend to much time in optimize my system to work well with the card and heard to many people have trouble with Premiere CC and the Multibridge Pro Card. In Premiere Pro it wasn't a problem at all...

    Flo.

  • Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro HDMI card

Hey I work with Final Cut Pro 6.0.5 on a Mac Pro OS x 10.5.7, and we are looking into getting a Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro HDMI card. I'm just looking for assurances that these cards do work with my version of final cut pro, and any tips or tricks to installing and working with them.
    Thanks,
    Tim McDonald

I have the Intensity, didn't need the pro. The card works, though sometimes flakey. Audio always work fine when playing through HDMI to monitor (if monitor has speakers) but video is hit or miss. While it does work more often than not, there are times when I have to sit and keep switching the resolution output from 720/60, to 720/59.94 to 1080i/59.94 and so on just to get a picture. It's annoying and honestly sometimes it takes 5 minutes to get it work.
Blackmagic's awesome support told me the reason I was having problems was because I had a cheap HDMI cable. Apparently it works flawlessly all the time with Monster $150 HDMI cables. Bulls...
Make sure you have the newest Blackmagic software. I believe they are on version 3.2.

  • Has anyone used the Black-Magic Design Multi Bridge?

Currently I have a Black Magic Multi Bridge Extreme. It works, but there seems to be an issue with a very (hot) running unit. The fan is running (very loud I might add), and does seem to cool down the unit, just a bit. If there is anyone using this or simular unit, could you provide some feed back. Thanks

I've got a new Mac Mini running HDMI to a 40" Sony Bravia Flat Panel... works fine.
I do have an issue when I turn on the TV and wake the Mini from sleep... the screen stays really dim. Not sure if it's the Mini or the TV that's the issue. After the Mini is fully on... a power cycle of the TV seems to bring everything back to normal.
Brett, I have the same problem when I bring the mac out of sleep mode. Have you managed to find out why we have to switch the TV Off then On again to get the picture? Or another solution? Very annoying when you have 1000's $ worth of equipment but the solution is still "Have you tried switching it Off and On again" (All due respects to the "IT CROWD").

  • Add Onlocation support for Matrox, Black Magic Design, and AJA capture cards.

  • Can I use a Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro HDMI card in a Mac Pro 1.1?

I am looking for a video capture card. Cna I use this?

PCIe fine. But you need to use 8x probably to work properly.
It doesn't need EFI64 and PCIe 2.0 is backward compatible.

  • Mavericks and BMD Intensity Pro

Im looking to see if anyone had compatibility issues with Mavericks using the Black Magic Design Intensity Pro desktop video card?

I am having the same issue on my iMac that was udated to Mavericks a while back and apparently I haven't tried to log and transfer anything since.
The error comes up everytime I have a my Sandisk High Speed Card in my lexar Fire Wire 800 card reader. The Log and Transfer screen pops up and it starts adding the clips and instead of populating the screen, it crashes. Mine also says FCP quit while using the canonIHL plug in, here's a screen shot of the indication.
I agree, this needs to be resolved ASAP. I'm dead in the water. The only thing I can do is transfer the raw files into a folder somewhere, then import the clips, but then to have them as ProRes files I guess I would have to use compressor before hand. I've done it before, but it never runs as smoothly without it being natively imported.

  • PE7 and Intensity Pro

Black Magic installs Intensity Pro presets for PPro,
Does the Intensity Pro also work with PE7 ?
    steve

    Steve,
While there are a few FireWire Capture cards/devices that do Capture directly into Premiere, nearly every PCI/PCIe and USB card/device requires other software to function. Once "Captured," Premiere can then Import the files. If your BM Intensity allows capture to DV-AVI, you are good to go, with no additional work. I use similar with a Turtle Beach card and its software. Once captured as DV-AVI, all is perfect.
I do know that BM offers some CODECs of their own (actually use a few without their card). These are good ones, however for what I think you are doing, I'd stick to plain old MS DV-AVI as the CODEC/format.
    Good luck,

  • Don't use Black Magic or Matrox MXO2

To all professional users at broadcast stations:  Do not use video interfaces by Black Magic Design (see this link: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3640669#3640669)  Also do not use the Matrox MXO2.  These cards are not working with CS5. Your PC will become highly unstable.  Do not expect your dealer, Adobe or Matrox to solve your problem. You'll end up in a neverending loop when trying to get help.   At best these companies will try standard procedures with small steps that just won't make any difference. They will not follow up on your case and do close the case after two days.  We have tried to hire engineers to fix our systems but that request was denied.  For editing, try stick with Avid if possible, never mind how little options it has; it works.  For compositing with AE, use a Mac.  Dvd authoring is also best done with Mac only software; Encore is not a professional solution. I forgot the app name.  Thanks for reading.

    Geoff
Maybe remove your matrox tools and drivers and hardware and try again. I removed my Matrox MX02 and my system is fast and stable and with the BM. I think a PC is just as good as any Mac and I am sure is faster if you have the correct hardware and is setup correctly. I visited a editor who edits on a Mac Pro FCP for TV shows and realized that mac is not what everybody rants and raves about the time it took him to complete what he was doing, I could have done it much quicker. I do agree Mac's are good for certain applications but so they should be at the price they sell for. IMO bang for buck nothing can come close to PC and CS5.
I would get in touch with one of the PC Builders on this site and Ask for help as I believe there is nothing wrong with Adobe CS5 and the PC format.

  • Setting Premiere Pro with Black Magic extreme Tunderbolt/HDMI

Normally I work with Avid but, like everybody else, I think Premiere Pro holds the future. So I am working on that.
Question is, I have a Black Magic Extreme with Thunderbolt connected through my Pegegasus raid system. With Avid it works BUT with Premiere Pro it doesn't. So what am I doing wrong?

    Hi,
I recommend watching this how to setup Blackmagic with Premiere Pro video if you haven't already.

  • Can I run a mxo2 mini and a BMD intensity pro on the same mac pro?

    Hi to everyone,
I have a strange question to you: Can I run a Matrox MXO2 mini and a Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro on the same Mac Pro?
That's because I find more versatile using a MXO2 with editing software (I have an AVID MC 5.5.3 and I don't want to update it to 6 yet) and I'd like to begin to use DaVinci Resolve from Blackmagic Design which, of course, functions only with their cards. My goal is to output Resolve to my FullHD CRT instrumental monitor without spending the money to upgrade AVID for now, I'm fine with 5.5.3.
I won't use them togheter but alternatively as you can easily imagine.
    thanks
    best regards,
    ginuz

The Mac Pro "Eight Core" 2.4 (Mid-2010/Westmere) is powered by dual 2.4 GHz Quad Core 45-nm Xeon E5620 (Westmere) processors with a dedicated 256k of level 2 cache for each core and 12 MB of "fully shared" level 3 cache per processor.

  • Adobe not allowing import of XML file captured from Media Express through Black Magic capture card

I have been going crazy trying to find a way to import the XML files to fix the digitized look Adobe capture gave my footage. Someone help me
These are not XML from Final Cut. They are files saved from Media Express, a Black magic design program used for Capturing.
    THANK YOU.
Please email me if you know how to fix this
    [email protected]
    THANKS AGAIN!

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to open the actual media files captured with the program?

  • FMLE + blackmagic intensity pro: Cannot adjust framerate

Using FMLE with blackmagic design intensity pro on windows 7 professional with 720p60 input, I am unable to adjust framerate from the default input value.
I want to set framerate to 30fps but the encoded output (H.264/VP6) is always 60fps.
Using ffmpeg along with bmdcapture tool, I am able to encode 500kbps, 30fps correctly.
Following are some of the FMLE configuration settings I have tried with Intensity pro:
    1. Input=1280x720, Framerate=30fps, bitrate=500kbps, output size=720x576.
Result observed on statistics screen and also verified by dumping the content: output bitrate=1Mbps, Framerate=60fps.
    2. Input=1280x720, Framerate=60fps, bitrate=500kbps, output size=720x576.
Result observed on statistics screen and also verified by dumping the content: output bitrate=500kbps, Framerate=60fps.
The output framerate remains unchanged irrespective of the framerate we request from FMLE. Instead, the bitrate doubles up if we try to reduce the bitrate to half.
I see same behavior with FMLE GUI / FMLEcmd.exe.
Is it just me or it is a known issue with FMLE with Intensity pro on windows?
Any pointers on how to go about fixing the problem will be much appreciated. Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem!
Please, add an fps limit feature to FMLE so that for example a 50fps device output can be lowered to 24fps (I can actually choose different fps but it still broadcasts with 50fps no matter what settings).
For now, does anyone know a kind of directshow capture proxy that captures the device (blackmagic intensity pro in my case) at 50fps, lowers the fps and puts it out (with no quality loss!) to FMLE (there selectable as a virtual camera)?
    Thanks!

  • Which slot should I install my Blackmagic Intensity Pro PCIe card?

    Hi there,
I just purchased myself a Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro capture card. It's a x1 lane PCIe card and according to the manual, it should work in any PCIe slot on the Mac Pro. However, in the readme file, it states, "If using a Mac Pro, it is recommended to use PCIe slot 4 for Intensity capture cards."
What exactly does this mean? Does this mean it's recommended to use the x4 lane slot? Or the 4th slot in the Mac Pro? I'm a little confused.
Thanks for your time and I hope to hear from someone soon.
    Regards,
    Daniel

Depends when it was written, and for which Mac Pro.
Does it support 16x slots? maybe. But slots 3&4 are 4x and #4 refers to the top most just under the hard drives.
Some cards use to run best in 8x slot which was slot #4 on early Mac Pro but which was also PCIe 1.1.
Mac Pro 2008 and later, doesn't matter.
Apple had trouble with their own Fibre Channel card not working correctly in 2008, and not working to full bandwidth.
I passed answering before because you just need to look at what your PCIe slots provide.
