Maual manage songs ... play count and ratings sync

When you set your ipod to "manually manage songs" play counts and ratings, among other things, don't update.
Has this been addressed yet? Anyone know any work arounds?
How do we contact Apple to include features in future updates? There's really no reason for the "manually manage" option to be so crippled on purpose.

Hi Clement Bassens,
There are some programs on the market that allow you to transfer your content and metadata from your iPod to your computer.
In my opinion, [iPod Access|http://www.findleydesigns.com/ipodaccess/index.html] or [iRepo|http://www.purpleghost.com/index.php?q=irepo] are excellent, once they have iPod Touch/iPhone compatibility and can also transfer your ratings, playlists and everything else.
Hope this helps!

  • Play counts and ratings aren't saving

So far I've been using iTunes for a year and I haven't had any problems until now. So here goes:
As far as I know this has started since I've updated to iTunes 8.2. My play counts and ratings aren't saving when I exit iTunes and start it up again. When I plug in my iPod Classic it syncs up to the old setup and doesn't update playcounts either. At first this happened when I added a new CD and started rating the songs and playing it. Then last night I bought 3 tracks off iTunes Store and all of a sudden it started saving my playcounts and ratings for that past CD. Now today when I started rating and adding playcounts to those new tracks I bought it won't save anything again. It's like it saves the file when I add something new but always reverts to that spot whenever I open iTunes again. I hope this makes sense, haha.

Ok, I found out that when I added another new CD it seems to stop saving all information once I try to rate the new files, or something like that. For example, I started changing the 'Sort Artist' category for the songs and afterwards started to rate them. This was before I clicked 'Get Album Artwork' as well so then when I closed out and opened iTunes again it had the 'Sort Artist' info right but in the wrong spot and the artwork wasn't there. One song was missing too. Is this a corrupted Library file then? It won't save any changes for any of the other songs either. It always reverts back to the old info. I'm really not sure what to do.

  • How can I recover my play counts and ratings?

I recently moved my iTunes librabry to an external hd, and lost all my preferences.  I have recoverd my playlists (at least the ones my wife uses) but can't figure out how to restore my ratings/ play counts etc.  I have time machine but cannot locate the data i'm looking for.

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
The above is how you should do it.  Your playcounts and ratings are stored along with all other information about your iTunes collection in the library.itl file.  If this wasn't part of the move then they got left behind.

  • IPod 7th Gen: Errors in play counts and ratings

My 7th generation iPod seems to mark songs and podcasts as being played when I haven't played them. It also rates them without me doing so. Is this a problem with the iPod or the iTunes database. Any methods (restore/reset) that can be used to correct this?

  • Getting back play counts and ratings after moving the librar

    Hi,
I have just moved my music library on to my other internal hard drive. I pointed itunes to the new folder and then imported the iTunesMusicLibrary.xml and got all my playlist back. Unfortunately I cannot get my playcounts or my ratings to import. Does anyone know where these are located and how I can get them imported. With thanks.
    Sean

    Sean hello,
the reason that none of the info was in was in your library is, you started a new library file... by default when iTunes starts it looks in the home iTunes folder for the file 'iTunes Library' if it is not there a new file will be created and all songs will need to be added again but all playcounts, ratings and date added data will be lost ...
To recover your situation open the home iTunes folder and put the iTunes Library file on the desktop... now move the original iTunes Library file from the other HD back to it's proper place the home iTunes folder and leave it there... start iTunes for the 1st time after putting the file back by double/clicking on the file.

  • ITunes 11 no longer updates the song play count or the last played date/time on Win7 and on Macs

I've downloaded and installed iTunes 11 on 2 Win7 PC's, on my Macbook (Mountain Lion), MacbookPro (Snow Leopard) and new Mac mini (Mountain Lion). The song "play count" and "last played date/time" do not update after playing songs on any platform. This problem needs to be corrected as I have 2 iPods and an iPhone that I like to sync every few days. I have not tried the sync yet and will not as long as this problem persists.

I read another similar post about this same issue, where it was said the the "next play" list could be cleared to get the play count and last played date/time to update. That is true, however iTunes stops playing from the playlist entirely - all you hear is the single song. This is not any sort of upgrade or fix. For the sake of one nicety, Apple programmers have broken a fundamental feature and function. This is not good!

  • How to get back counts and ratings

I just went to restart iTunes to find it's not there. I had to reinstall FF earlier and it removed iTunes as well.
How can i get my play counts and ratings back as I have nearly 4 years of plays and ratings.
I still have the XML file andother in a seperate folder.

+iTunes Library (which is labelled as database file).+
This is the ITL file. Windows must not be set to display file extensions,is why you aren't seeing it.
+There is also a lot of iT temp files.+
This is a big clue that something is interfering with itunes savings its ITL file. Which you can look into later.
For now, to get your database back,
    1. Display file extensions in Windows
    2. Close itunes
    3. Rename your current ITL file to something like "iTunes Library Is blank.ITL"
On XP, the default path is C:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
    4. copy that saved ITL file to the C:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
(assuming you are using the default path as I posted before)
    5. Open itunes. Everything should be there, up to the date you made the backup to that other folder

  • Help, Library corrupted, need to save ratings, play counts, and last played

Help, my iTunes lost its connection to my media server yesterday and it seems to have totally corrupted the library. I have all my music files intact, but if I recreate the library by starting afresh, I will lose 6 years worth of ratings, play counts, and last played dates. I do not want to lose this information. I have the information in an library export.
How can I add back the music and restore the metadata??

I am having this exact same issue in iTunes 11 running on OSX 10.6.8.
Short tracks (less than 10sec) do not update their metadata to increase the play count. However if I play a short track on my iPod or iPhone and then sync with iTunes the play count and last played info is updated.
This really messes up my smart playlists that use playcount limiters.
I hope there is a fix for this soon.

  • Play counts and "Last Played" not updating on short songs?

It looks like a lot of people have had trouble with play counts not updating with crossfade turned on. I've never used crossfade, so this doesn't bother me. However, I do have a plethora of very short tracks in my library (owing to there being many video game soundtracks with short fanfares as tracks), and I've noticed that when playing any song that's 10 seconds or less, it will show up in the "History" tab of "Up Next", but "Plays" and "Last Played" remain the same. Any other song in my library, whether it's 11 seconds long like "Got a Star Piece (part 1)" from "Super Mario RPG" by Yoko Shimomura or 11 minutes long like "I Am" from "As the World Bleeds" by Theocracy, will update its play count properly when played. Why is 10 seconds enough time to play a song and add it to my history, but not enough time to update when I last played it and make it appear in the smart playlist of recently played songs? Is iTunes 11 so obsessed with 11 that if a song isn't 11 seconds long, it doesn't consider it to be worth tracking?

  • Will play count and playhead position sync back to iTunes?

I have a bunch of smart playlists that contain all the unplayed episodes of my favorite podcasts. If I drag these onto the Shuffle, will the play count and playhead position from my Shuffle sync back to iTunes?
It seems like the answer is no -- this is really a one-way copy to the Shuffle, and not a "sync".

The iPod shuffle is supposed to maintain a "played" flag for played tracks. I don't know if podcasts will work the same way as normal tracks, but I can't think of a good reason why they wouldn't. Having said that, after the iTunes 8.1 update, my shuffle's marking the wrong tracks as "played" and leaving the actually played tracks unmarked, so until the iTunes team comes up with a fix for all the bugs they introduced in that update, anything goes.

  • Lost my ratings, play count and last played

HI, I recently moved my library off my macbook and onto an external drive to save space. Somehow I lost all my ratings, play count and last played info. My Ipod still shows the ratings, however. Is there any way I can get itunes to import the information off my ipod? Thanks for any advice.

Can you put things back the way they were before you moved them to the external? If you can, then you can easily move it to the external by copying the entire iTunes folder to the external and opening from the new location using these instructions...

  • If I do a normal library and playlist backup, will that also backup song rating and song played count?

Hi everyone, just wondering if when I do the routine backup straight from the iTunes menu and I've exported my playlist and library.xml file. I've also backed up the entire /Program Files/iTunes folder. Will they also backup my 'Song Rating' and 'Song Played Count' for my playlist? Thanks.

Backup from iTunes has gone. The .xml file isn't enough to rebuild the library completely. The .itl file is the crucial one, though you need all the media too.

  • My iTunes doesn't keep track of my listening history anymore. It doesn't update play counts and default "Recently Played" playlist.

My iTunes doesn't keep track of my listening history anymore. It doesn't update play counts and default "Recently Played" playlist. But it still tracking plays from my iPhone and syncing them.
I've tried to repair it with setup file. Nothing's changed.
Can you help me with that?
NOTE: Now I tried disabling the crossfade feature and it worked, started to count again. But I like crossfade, I don't want to keep it off.

I think I got this figured out. The playcount does update, but not how the previous iPod models update their playcount. Instead of immediately updating the playcount right after you finish the song like the older iPod models, iPod Touch keeps the updates in memory. The next time you connect to iTunes it'll sync those playcounts in memory to the actual songs itself, effectively updating the playcount of the songs only after connecting to iTunes. I have set my syncing manually. That's why after connecting to iTunes, my playcounts are updated. BUT it doesn't solve the mystery of my Smart Playlist. Even though in iTunes, the correct songs are listed, in the iPod Touch, it shows the old playlist.
Don't you just hate that? It was working fine before on non-iPod touch models. Now we have to live with this new bug. I just hope when they release software 2.0 it fixes these bugs and that they *give it for free!* People shouldn't be charged on something they should have gotten as a support!

  • Can I get my music collection (play counts and playlists inc.) from my iPad to my PC?

I had a problem with iTunes where I couldn't add songs to the library because I didn't have sufficient permissions to edit my iTunes library (even though I did). After a few days of tweaking administrator permissions and the like, I got really annoyed and tried re-installing iTunes to see if it would make it go away. Whilst the iTunes64Setup.exe file was downloading, I was fiddling with the .itl and .xml files in my iTunes folder and when I re-installed iTunes I had lost all my play counts and playlists. When iTunes opened, I assumed it must have overwritten the two files because when I looked at them in Windows Explorer they were both a lot smaller in size.
Obviously, I didn't sync my iPad or iPhone after this had happened, so I still have the playlists and play counts stored on them. Is there any way I can:
    a) Recover a previous version of the .xml and .itl files on my laptop and use them to restore my plays?
    or
    b) Use iTunes Match to restore them onto my laptop?
I'm not sure about b). When you subscribe to Match, does it analyze your current library and then save it to the Cloud so you can redownload it?
I'm going to buy the new iPhone when it is released in the next couple of months so I'm willing to jailbreak my iPhone 4 if need be.
    Thanks for any help.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Or see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • What is the process to update song plays count ?

    Hi,
i'm using iTunes Match on 5 devices : 2 windows, iPad, iPhone and MacBook
Everything is ok, sync is perfect for new songs i add anywhere.
If i rate a song, it appears rated the same way on all other devices in a fex seconds.
    BUT
what is the process to update the song plays count ?
because it doesn't seem to sync correctly.
I have updated song plays count by scripts on one iTunes and it doesn't update at all anywhere else. I havez tried to "Update iTunes Match" and it just brought back the old song plays counts.
How can i update the song plays and make the value change on all devices ?
    Thanks
