MAudio Delta 1010 PCI Digital Recording Rack Mount and Mac Pro

A great digital audio rack-mount converter is MAudio's Delta 1010. It uses a PCI card for which I heard one could get a replacement PCI-X interface card, but such is not available for PCI-Express slots which are all the Mac Pro workstations have.
Does anybody know of a solution? Perhaps an interface that converts PCI or PCI-X to FireWire, USB, or PCI-Express? In other words, any way at all to make use of equipment for which the manufacturer doesn't supply a Mac Pro'able interface?
(And my apologies if this is just a silly question; I'm not super hip to all the hardware stuff.)
Thanks,
Rich Apple

$2000 US Dollars for the Magma PE6R4 converter (less in Canadian Dollars, of course) would be a pretty high price to pay to save my $800 Delta 1010 audio solution...

QuickTime 7 doesn't offer that, but the built-in QuickTime X Player does. You may find another use for the key.

  • Why can't I get AU Lab and Soundflower to record anything on my Mac Pro!

(Please be patient, I really apreciate your time and input!)
I have been (and I am) recording for years with logic audio and a lot of other recording aplications which I own.
I started experimenting with AU Lab. Although I am very good at figuering out, learning new applications I can't
record a thing with AU Lab and Soundflower to record anything on my Mac Pro! I red the confusing instructions
and followed You Tube videos on this. I get a reading of what I want to record in the AU Lab mixers only if I set
the input and output to Soundflower, but after recording and saving the AU Lab Recording .aif files play back nothing!
I am running system 10.9, latest AU Lab version. I do not use the Alesis iO|26 firewire interface I have connected but I
only want to record what is playing in my computer.
I changed input and output settings in the above to different combinations and in system audio still no sound out of
the AU Lab Recording .aif files I get!
Thank you for any ideas of what I do wrong or have to set up.

Hi Paul and thank you so much for replying.
I still can't get any movement when playing audio. Note that it says (Overload 9

  • Which digital recorder works with a Mac Mini?

Has anybody bought a Digital Recorded that can attach ti a Mac Mini? I've read up on the Olympus and Sony ones, but it seems none of them work with a Mac ? Do any of these recorders attach to a Mac through a USB ??? directly to a Mac ???

Olympus' DS-330 connects via the USB port, and works for me...But I believe it's a discontinued model. Olympus posts their instruction manuals online!

  • AP541N rack mount and antenna ports?

    Hey guys,
Just had a quick couple of questions about the AP541N.  I'm first curious to know whether it is rack mountable.  It seems like the right size, but can't find anythign in the literature that would let me know whether it was rack mountable or not and whether it comes with the rack mount kit or not.
Secondly, I'm under the impression that the ports on the back of the AP541 are SMA ports, but I'm curious as to whether these are standard polarity, reverse polarity, and whether they are male or female.
    Thanks in advance,
    Seth

    Hi,
The enclosure does support Rack Mount, we do not currently provide a rack mount kit for the AP541N, nor support for external antennas, we have not tested this scenario. Having said that, the rack mounting should work (same as SA 500 or ESW rack mounting kit). I will refer you to the Product Manager, I discussed with him your scenario and he will try to accommodate as much as possible. He will investigate putting a rack mount kit together but nothing is committed as of today.
Also as far as the antennas they are RP-SMA.
    Thanks

  • Rack-mounted Power Mac

Quite often, I go on the road with my music production hardware - think of it as a "roving studio." It's quite cumbersome and problematic to lug around a Power Mac Dual G5 tower. It would be so much nicer if there were a rack-mounted version of the Power Mac that I could install in my music equipment rack. I've checked out an Xserve (as it comes in the desired form factor), but it's unclear to me if a) I can use it as a non-server, and b) the AppleCare options. (After all, for me, it wouldn't be a server, so I don't (can't) pay for "server" support.) Does Apple offer a rack configuration for a Power Mac Dual G5 "workstation?" (Or could I buy an Xserve and use it as such - with appropriately-priced (i.e. "workstation") support?)
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

There are vertical rack mounted solutions, but of course this isn't the best use of space.
The G5 needed a bigger case to handle the larger cooling systems and all the expansion options, it's impossible to please everyone. It's not really designed to sit in a rack, but next to a desktop.
I wouldn't use a X-Serve as a desktop machine because your expansion options are limited, video cards may be hard to find for instance. Not much in the way of connectivity either.
There is a penalty for the 1U design.
Now since you roll your rack around from place to place, why not have someone build you a G5 case with wheels and a long handle that you can roll that around from place to place instead?
All you have to do is pay a visit to your local metal shop and find some sturdy fat wheelbarrow wheels at the local hardware store.
I say wheel barrow wheels because you can keep them under-inflated and they absorb shock better.
Heck at my hardware store there is angle iron (aluminum) for sale that with a few bolts and a little ingenuity (and a metal cut off wheel for my chop saw, metal drill bits) I could build a cart for my G5. Take it down to a welding shop and have them make it stronger with welds.
    Necessity breeds invention.

  • Using boston acoustics digital ba735 speakers on my Mac Pro

just bought a Mac Pro. Would like to use my digital ba735 speakers from my old Gateway. These are proprietary and needed a digital sound card. Any way I can use some type of converter cord to accept the line out audio signal.

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
I don't know about the Boston speakers, but have you tried connecting them to the Digital-Out at the back of your MacPro ?
Maybe this is sufficient to get sound.

  • Can You mount a mac Pro In a case for On the Road work

I do audio pre and post production and I was thinking aobu ttaking a mac pro and putting it in a rack sideways . I know that the HD need pins(I think) to do that But I dont really know much else. any suggestions are appreciated

The MacPro is not a small tower. I don't think it will fit in a standard 19" rack case on it's side, even if you hack-sawed off the feet and handles (and who'd want to do that?!)
You can rack your Mac vertically with this deal: (it says G5 but I think the case is the same size for MacPro?)
    http://www.redco.com/shopexd.asp?id=876
And there are up to 5 rackspaces vertically for your outboard gear. This thing is the converter only and you still need to get a 12 space rack.

  • Can I play and record minecraft on a mac pro

I am currently playing minecraft on a windows pc with a 1GB graphics card. My graphics card has crashed while playing basic minecraft. I want to buy minecraft so I can do more and also install HD resource packs, but are unable to because of my computer. I have been advised to buy the new Apple Mac Pro, as it has a 6GB graphics card, but am wondering if minecraft will run on it and if so, how well. I also want to record minecraft and put it on youtube, but have noticed that most of the people who play minecraft have pc's to play and record it on. I have also noticed that mojang, who make minecraft are using pc's. Is there anybody who is using an Apple to play and record minecraft and if so, could you let me know how well it works and if you have uploaded it to youtube, please give me your link or username. I am looking at buying the new Mac Pro to run minecraft but am wondering if it will do what I want it to do and if anyone has any advise.
    Thankyou.

You can only PLAY Blu-ray discs on a Mac by using one of several software's that untilize a Blu-ray license on the internet. What this means is that you must have a fast internet connection to play the disc on your machine. Apple refuses in support Blu-ray with their OS, so there's no way one can play BRD using their computers software in a stand-a-lone manner, like Windows users can.  This is one of those reasons for the love and hate relationships Apple creates  for controlling the market to their advantage, at a loss of one of the most common entertainment formats to their user base. They could easily support the format, they simply chose not to either out of stubborness or for money reasons. The latter makes you winder when they have so much of it now.
Toast software, on the other hand, has the ability to burn Blu-ray discs, so you can at least use BRD for back-up.  You can also rip movies, etc. I purchased a small and nifty portable BR burner from Sony, Model BDX-S600U that was fairly cheap at the time for $149. It's now $178 at Amazon. It only interfaces witha computer through dual USB though (one is for additonal power), so you can't use it with your TV.  I use this device on my MacBook Air when I want to burn or play DVD's. I have tested the machine and it plays DVD movies and burns just fine. I've been so busy though, that I haven't actualy burned a BR data disc yet, but I know the Toast software supports it. Moreover, hard drives have become so cheap, that burning to BR isn't the best BU, but still uasable and great for mailing large files.
Unfortunately, until Apple gets their HOOTA we may never see BR support because Tim Cook may just follow Steve Jobs lead out of respect. Yet, with new leadership, and Steve out of the way (Bless him), we may eventually see Apple support. Especially as they continue to merge iOS and OSX. I wouldn't hold your breath on it though.

  • IMac in Target Disk mode won't mount on Mac Pro via Firewire

My iMac (intel Core 2 Duo) won't start up - it has the question mark in a folder icon.
I can't find the Apple Snow Leopard disk, so I've started it in Target Disk mode, connected it to my Mac Pro, but it doesn't mount on the Mac Pro even though it appears in System Profiler on the Mac Pro.
    Both running 10.6.8
Can I force it to mount? I have tried front & back firewire ports and restarted several times to no avail.
I'm hoping to repair the iMac disk using Disk Utility or Diskwarrior on the Mac Pro, but need it to mount first.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

I want to copy everything off the iMac before re-installing Snow Leopard & starting again.
I do not have a backup of the computer (I've had a backup hard drive on order for 7 weeks that has been delayed due to the shortages...) I am aware that this is very stupid of me.
The disk is obviously in very bad shape as Disk Utility can't do anything with it.
Diskwarrior v4.2 on a DVD will make a 'Preview' of a directory of it, but will not 'Replace' the directory as the disk is damaged.
    1. Does anyone know how to make a startup DVD of Diskwarrior v4.4 (I have the v4.4 update but can't find out how to make a new startup DVD using the old v4.2 DVD and the software v4.4 update) and I think Alsoft must now be on holiday as they're not answering... (I would like to use v4.4 as it should be more capable).
    2. Assuming I can get Diskwarrior (hopefully on a new v4.4 DVD) to make a 'Preview' again of the iMac directory, how do I copy everying off the computer? My only guess is to connect my Mac Pro in target mode to the iMac. Will the Mac Pro disk show up in the 'Preview' directory & therefore allow me to copy all of it's contents across to the target mode disk?
    3. Assuming all the above works, is there a best way to copy all of the iMac contents to a folder in the Mac Pro? i.e. is there a way of Carbon Copying it so that after wiping the disk I can simply copy it all back? Or is it all too late for that
THANK YOU very much for any help.

  • 5.1 Dolby Digital via optical cable in Mac Pro?

    Hello!
I'm planning to get a new Mac Pro and I wanted to know if a Dolby Digital or DTS encoder is included to have 5.1 output with the optical TosLink cables.
I need this to connect the Mac with my 5.1 surround sound system because I wanted to watch DVDs using it.
If it only supports stereo sound in the standard version, do you have any recommendations to expand it to get the described feature?
    Thanks for answers.

Hook up the toslink, set the output to digital in System Preferences>Sound, set the input on your 5.1 receiver and match the surround sound format in both the DVD movie sound prefs and the receiver.
    That's it.
Remember to set the speakers in the correct positions from your sitting point or it won't work very well.
To test the surround sound I suggest the movie Castaway, where Tom Hanks is picking up Fedex boxes from the surf line. You'll hear the waves crash on the left, Tom walking towards you and coconuts falling on the right.
The toslink and a good receiver also makes your rips and iTMS songs sound great too.
Check out the Volume Logic iTunes plug-in as well, really makes the music sound great.

  • PCIe Audio Cards for new '09 Mac Pro? (more detailed)

    Hi Guys/Gals
I bit the bullet and just upgraded from my Dual 2.7Ghz (LC) G5 to a new 2.66Ghz 8-core MacPro. I now have to find a PCIe audio card (stereo is fine). I used to use an RME Hammerfall 3296 PCI card in my trusty G5 as an alternative audio out (Digi 003R for ProTools and Logic Pro 8 etc.). Do you know of any PCIe audio cards? I just want to use it for iTunes etc as the Digi doesn't allow play through via core audio etc. I already use the optical with my Logitech surrounds but want to send the iTunes stereo signal to my main amp and pro speakers for auditioning cd's and songs.
    Thanks in advance!
    Bobs

Good point on obsolete! I'm sure there's some new flavour on the way soon too.
Basically, all my firewire ports are used up, I have a Digidesign 003R, 2 FW 800 externals, a FW 400 external HD and an Apple iSight. I tried a Kingston FW hub but got lots of crashes/freezes with it so i can up on that! I may have to resort to either a USB type I/O (lots to choose from there). Someone suggested I use an Airport Express but the problem is that Apple's core audio sends the same signal out the analog audio as it does the optical outs too so I need a completely separate device.
You're right though, I may have to give in on the PCIe card option as most cards are for high end audio and I don't need that. I only need to play stereo tracks from iTunes to my main amplifier.
    Thanks again!

  • PCI express to PCI adaptors and enclosures and Mac Pro.

although this isn't directly linked to logic pro... but is is audio related....
I'm upgrading from a 2006 G5. mainly because the my G5 died, and i've been thinking about upgrading for a while anyway.
so, my problem is, as the mac pro has pci express slots. and i have some hardware that is a PCI card i want to use. that being this....http://www.rme-audio.de/enproducts_hdsp9652.php
i've been looking for a "tidy" solution to this problem and i've found this.... http://us.startech.com/product/PEX2PCI4-PCI-Express-to-Four-Slot-PCI-Expansion-B ay
my main question is of coarse, will this work? and if it does, will it weaken the "signal" and connection for the RME card. or would it run just as well?
and help and advise on this would be greatly received.

the startech web page cited does say no driver or software installation required. Does that imply larger compatility, say with the mac, i wonder.

  • USB Drive not mounting on Mac Pro, mounts on other Macs?

    Hello.
I have a USB drive that mounts on just about every Mac (just about because I haven't tried on them all) in our studio. Intel & PPC, 10.5.6 and 10.4.11. But, when I try and mount it on my Mac Pro, it won't mount. The only difference (other than it being a Mac Pro) is that it's running 10.5.7 — though, I have an iMac at home running 10.5.7 and it mounts there no problem as well?
I've confirmed the USB ports working (all of them), but for some reason, this drive doesn't mount (can't see it in Disk Utility or other 3rd party drive utilities)?
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Regards,
    Kristin.

Yea, I've already tried both of those things and neither have worked.
So weird. I've read a lot of reports on these boards about 10.5.7 and USB not playing well together, but the fat that I've been able to get it to mount on a 10.5.7 machine...?
