  • Is it safe to use Mavericks iCloud keychain or not?

I am not sure whether or not I should use Mavericks icloud keychain to store all information. How safe is it or good idea?

My personal choice, is that I only use it for non-critical and/or convenient uses.
I put web site passwords into it that I do not feel as a security risk to me. My banks for instance are not stored.
I do not put credit card numbers in.
Like any cloud service, only store on it what you are prepared to have stolen or lost if that service is compromised.
If you do use keychain locally or by iCloud, make sure that your computer is password protected, encrypted if you feel that it needs to be and setup so a secure password is required on booting, logins, recovery from sleep and screensaver etc.
If others are able to access your user account and you are using keychain, they will have full access to all your sites etc.

  • After downloading maverick, iCloud will not sync across my devices

Since downloading Maverick [10.9], iCloud will not sync across my devices. Mail is not working properly. I'm being asked for passwords from everything.
Also, every time I close and then reopen Mail, I get a message saying "Mail cannot connect to the iCloud account "iCloud", requiring my password, again!
Is there a solution to this? How can I find out if it's server related, etc.?
Thanks to anyone out there that can help!

Try restarting your router and all the other devices.
Not updated as it is currently unavailable.

  • Any update to the Maverick/icloud synch issue?

Over the last few months there has been a lot of discussion about how upset we all are that we can only synch under Maverick using icloud. It is now mid-Dec and I was wondering if Apple has seen how unhappy their customers are and, if so, is there any talk about them fixing this issue? I love Apple products but if I lose my privacy I may go back to the PC/Android world.

Also wondering did everyone just give up and succumb to icloud or are you, like me, dealing with just not having ical and contacts up to date in your mobile device?
Yes, 320+ Million people are using iCloud. The method of syncing that a few here are unhapy about, being calender and contact sync via usb cable, is still not available. Search the issue, especially the security between Android and PC. You can use what you wish. No one is forcing you to use Apple and iCloud.

  • Pages Mavericks iCloud popup window

How do you stop the pop up window opening when loading Pages  in Mavericks telling you you cannot open pages on iCloud because you have upgraded to iCloud drive-. It is becoming very annoying!!

You stop it when you upgrade to Yosemite, and the new Pages v5.5. Turning off everything in System Preferences > App Store doesn't prevent this intrusion. The fact that Pages can be configured to use Local storage, and you still get an update to Yosemite and iCloud Drive dialog, or update notification for Pages v5.5 (which requires Yosemite) shows how little attention that Apple is paying to end users.
I just sent Apple feedback on this issue, but since Mavericks is no longer Apple's focus, they will not pay attention.

  • Can't modify Mavericks iCloud settings from System Preferences or connect Mail to iCloud

I tried Keychain for the first time the other day, went away for the weekend and forgot my master password #*#@$!
In the process of trying a few different fixes I've changed my Apple ID password.  Most things are working well.
I can log in to iCloud via a browser using my Apple ID & new password.  I can also log in to itunes using the new password.
When I select iCloud from System Preferences and purposefully enter a wrong password, it tells me 'Incorrect password' in red font.  But when I enter the correct password, it is not rejected but the 'Enter Password' option remains on display and all the iCloud options/checkboxes remain greyed out.
In Mail, there is an error symbol against the iCloud inbox.  When I click on the error/circle symbol I am told 'Mail can't connect to the iCloud account "iCloud" ' and am requested to enter the password, which I do but with no effect.
Contacts has a similar problem and displays an error circle next to the iCloud account list, as does Calendar.
Any ideas out there?  Please help me!!
Is there any way to use Time Machine to revert to earlier settings?

If you are running Mt. Lion download and apply the OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.2 (Combo).  It includes the iCloud preference pane for the System preferences.
If you're running Lion then download and apply the OS X Lion Update 10.7.4 (Client Combo) as it also includes the iCloud preference pane.

  • FIXING SYNC PROBLEM MAIL APP IN MAVERICKS

After a few frustrating months with Apple's Mail app not working/syncing with Gmail and following the discussion boards, I have done some digging around and experimenting. It seems the issue is related to the Mavericks' iCloud Keychain and how it interacts with Apple Mail, across various OS X devices. You can follow the discussion I was part of here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/24539602?ac_cid=tw123456#24539602
But below is the process I recommend. (Before engaging in this process, be sure you have taken care of any incompatible software issues. Flip4Mac is a known culprit.) My Apple Mail app is now syncing properly in Mavericks on all three machines running OS X Mavericks.
0:  Close the Mail app and probably all other apps that are running.
1:  Turn off Keychain under iCloud Account in SysPref’s Internet Accounts. Ok to keep passwords on your computer.
    2:  Delete the iCloud Account
3:  Delete all other Internet Accounts
4:  Goto the ~/Library folder, find Mail Folder & Trash it and empty trash (may require a restart to complete).
5:  Open Mail and when asked, add the first IMAP Account back in and let it sync.
6:  Manually add all other mail accounts through Apple Mail Preferences. Let them sync before adding the next one.
7:  Add iCloud account last but do NOT turn Keychain on. Leave it off.
Turning Keychain off means Apple Mail is running more similarly to its pre-Mavericks version when it comes to settings on internet accounts. I did this for all of my computers and so far none of them have gone awry.
Note that one user suggests this before step 4 above:
If you're in the habit of saving a lot of emails locally within Mail and deleting them from your IMAP account, be sure to save those mailboxes before trashing ~/library/Mail. You can then reimport them later.
Try it. It has worked wonderfuly.

    Watching this thread.
Same thing happened.  I upgraded to Mavericks from Snow Leopard
on an mid-2010 MBP and now the Mailbox column disappears every
    time I restart Mac Mail.
    Thanks!

  • Contacts in Mavericks, corrupt?

I have been having problems with the Contacts app in Mavericks.
I have my contacts synced between dektop Mavericks, iCloud, and iPhone 7.0.6.
    Problems:
-If I try to edit a card on desktop, it error-beeps me out of edit mode, and doesn't save any of the changes I had already typed in.
-If I delete a card on desktop, it just reappears (from iCloud I assume).
-If I delete a card on iCloud, it stays UNdeleted on the desktop.  I have about 700, so deleting twice is not a good workaround.
-I suspected a few problem cards, so on desktop I tried to re-make them from scratch, using slightly different names and they started populating with data from the suspect cards = more useless problem cards.
-Some cards on desktop refuse to sync to iCloud/iPhone
-I tried desktop Contacts>Look for duplicates, and resolved them, but it still finds duplicates every time I run it.  Sometimes it hangs and crashes too.
What happened to the old Address Book, where it was smart enough to stay current with the 'most recent' edits of the data, between all devices???
    Help?

So I disabled "Contacts" in the SystemPreferences>iCloud, then trashed the previously suggested AddressBook files:
Triple-click the following and copy it.
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
In Finder, Choose Go to Folder (cmd-shift-g) from the Go menu.
Paste in that path and click Go.
Select everything except the MailRecents files and delete them.
When I tried to empty the trash, it said some of the Contacts files were still in use.  I restarted the whole machine and tried to empty the trash again, and and the process hung up, for HOURS.  I had to force my way out of it.  I tried option-empty-trash with the same results.  I tried a deletion app on the same files, with the same results.
I googled around and decided to try a basic permissions fix.  The normal [for me] ~15 minute process took somewhere between 4 and 5 hours.  After which I rebooted, and finally successfully emptied teh trash.  When I test-opened the Contacts app, it was completely empty, as expected.
In the meantime, I discovered a large amount of my Contacts vanished from my iPhone, before I could disable iCloud from that device.  This seems to be a sync from iCloud, as the iPhone wasn't connected to the desktop.  I'm fairly irked that so many vanished, but I DO have the backup up.
I backed up the Contacts 2 ways:  ".abbu" and ".vcf"'s.  I doscovered that the vcf's were about 6.5megs, and the .abbu was about 600(!)megs.  I checked a .abbu from last month and it was only 34megs.  Obviously the error got backed up, so I will restore from the .vcf's.

  • Keyboard Shortcuts do not sync anymore (iCloud, OSX 10.9.5 & iOS 8)

    Hey everyone,
since I updated my iPhone 5 and iPad (3. Gen.) to iOS 8 all my keyboard shortcuts are gone and don't sync anymore between the devices.
On my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.9.5) the keyboard shortcuts are still there. (Probably because Yosemite isn't out yet)
Until I updated to iOS 8 everything worked just fine.
I tried to figure out what the settings have to be and I found that article including a video:
    http://9to5mac.com/2014/01/04/how-to-create-and-sync-keyboard-shortcuts-between- ios-7-and-mavericks/
iCloud is activated on every device
    Documents and Date is enabled
Don't know why apple would have switched off that pretty need feature...
Any idea, what I could do?
    Thanks in advance.

I was having the same "coming & going" problem with keyboard shortcuts after updating my iPhone 5S and iPad Air to iOS 8. I tried everything in this and other threads including restoring the devices. The only thing that worked for me was upgrading to iCloud Drive on my iOS devices. After doing so, my shortcuts are back and work perfectly.
You are one of the lucky ones!
My keyboard shortcuts were disappearing and reappearing, daily or hourly, about 50% reliable since iOS 8 update. Then did the 8.0.2 update and enabled iCloud Drive.
Since then, nothing. no shortcuts working at all on iPad Air. They show up in Settings.. General.. Keyboard.. Shortcuts.. but they do not work at all. Rebooted every day, three days now, no joy. Keyboard Shortcut function on my iPad Air is broken.

  • Another Mail/Mavericks issue I'm sure, but .... Where the heck are my "rules" going?

I have - or should say, had - multiple mail handling "rules" saved in Mail preferences.  They have been there for years, and I've had nary a problem.  I took a chance on Mavericks last week, and since loading it everytime I quit the Mail program, or even just switch profiles on the computer, all of my "rules" simply disappear.  I can re-enter them, run an "apply rules", and they work beautifully - as they always have.  And then I log out, or close the program, or what have you, and they are gone again when I restart Mail.  I've re-entered them three days in a row hoping against hope it was just a weird glitch, but I have to face reality now I guess.  I've been **Mavericked**!  If  you have ideas, work arounds, or real McCoy fixes please let me know.  My inbox is a scary, scary place now.  Thanks

William - thanks for replying.  I did not know this about Mavericks/iCloud.  I know absolutely nothing useful about iCloud, and do not have an account - at least not one that I purposefully setup.  So, is that essentially my answer - to setup an iCloud account and make sure doc/data sharing is checked in the settings?  I guess I have some reading to do on iCloud

  • Document and data not showing in mac

I upgrade my iCloud to iCloud Drive when I used the Yosemite . Yesterday, I reinstall Mavericks and then iCloud is not working anymore. I can't see iCloud in Pages , Numbers, Sketch 3 , etc. I can't access any iCloud Data anymore and I can't work at home now.
Is there any way to download iCloud Drive or how to do to support iCloud Document and data again in current Mavericks.

Is there any way to download iCloud Drive or how to do to support iCloud Document and data again in current Mavericks.
iCloud Drive does not work with Mavericks. It requires the system support of Yosemite.
There is no way to share documents in iCloud between Mavericks and the system to come.   Use dropbox, if you need to share documents between incompatible system versions.

  • How to enter calendar event on my imac and see it on my other macs?

    Hi Glenn,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you're using iCloud to sync your calendar across your Mac computers, the steps in the "Troubleshooting Calendar on OS X Mountain Lion" section of the below article can help. They should also apply to Mavericks.

  • I have a mac 10.5.8 with leopard i would like the newest one do i have to upgrade all of the previous first?

I have a mac 10.5.8 with leopard. I would like the newest does that mean i have to upgrade all the ones before?

If you have a PPC (G4 or G5) iMac you can not upgrade any further.
If your is an Intel based iMac:
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
(NB: PowerPC applications can still be run in Snow Leopard using Rosetta, but they will not work in later versions of OS X. For detailed information see this user tip:  https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6271 )
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is still available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Before installation you should back up all your data.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes (you will need the latest version in order to synch with mobile devices).
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Yosemite OS 10.10 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
Yosemite will run on the following Macs:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
The requirements for Yosemite are the same as they were for OS X 10.9 Mavericks,
    iCloud system requirements:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4759
If you cannot run Yosemite you can purchase the code to use to download Mavericks from the App Store (requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-Mavericks
