Maverick Mail upgrade not connecting to gmail?

Hi all,
I just upgraded to Maverick and Mail stopped being able to access my gmail account.
The first set of errors suggested that the port wasn't correct, so changed port and SSL permissions- all to no avail.
Deleted account and then tried to set up again- now I just get a message saying "An unexpected error occured"!!
Any advice would be great!
Thanks,
Amy

Hi Eric,
Thanks for your help.
This is the message from the Connection Doctor:
"Could not connect to this SMTP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the account preferences. Also verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not, deselect the "Use SSL" checkbox in the Advanced tab of account preferences"
I have tried to change the SSL usage and also the port that was being used, but now the account does not appear in Accounts at all! So I have no way of changing any of the properties through Accounts.
I should also note that the connection to "contacts" and "calendars" appears to be fine. It's only Mail and Notes that it's having an issue with.
Thanks again,
Amy

  • Apple mail will not connect to gmail (POP)

    Hello,
For a week or so, Mail just will not connect to Gmail. Macbook Pro, Lepoard 5.8.
I tried deleting all accounts and creating them again but I get a message saying that the server is not answering.
This happened suddenly and Mail had been working fine for years... No changes in the Mac, no new software...No known general problem with Gmail. Gmail parameters set to POP as I'm using this instead of IMAP...
So right now All accounts have been deleted and I cannot re-connect....
Latest: even my Yahoo accounts do not work any more now.
Perhaps I should remove Mail and re-install it again ?
If so, how the h..k do I go about it as I'm no computer expert !
Please try not to be too technical as I'm french and do not really master PC language that well ...
    Thanks and regards.

    Hello, Marcredd.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

This issue that you are experiencing sounds like two-step verification is enabled on your Gmail account.  I would recommend selecting the Gmail Help Center link and search for two-step verification in the link below.

  • Mail app not connecting to gmail account

    Hi
So I have 2 gmail accounts where our company domain uses gmail for its email service. Mail was working fine on both the accounts till last week.
I had configured both the gmail accounts very easily by just selecting Google on the Mail App on my Macbook Air 7 months back. I just added my email id and my password and the Mail App automatically configured both my accounts.
Last week one of the gmail accounts stopped updating on the Mail app on the Macbook. I was recieving mails on my iPad and iPhone so I knew there was something wrong. The second gmail account was working just fine. I tried various things but that account refused to work. So I deleted that account and tried adding that account back. I could not add that gmail account this time round and kept giving me an invalid username password error or some account not valid error. I go to the online version of Gmail and login with exactly the same information.
Then to probe more I delete the working gmail account and try to add it again. That account also does not seem to be adding now. Same error as the first account. So now I cannot access both my gmail accounts on the mail client.
I just realized that I updated to OSX Mavericks 10.9.2 on 28th Feb and am pretty sure that all this has happened immediately after that.
Anybody else with similar issues? Any ideas on what I should be doing?
    Cheers

  • After upgrade to Maverick Mail does not connect to server to download emails

Since I have had my system upgraded to Maverick I can no longer download emails from my server/provider. Mail asks for the password for the user (me) and when I type it in nothing happens.
There is no problem connecting to my server/provider online, so the server is working ok. My guess is that I am missing some crucial ticked or unticked box in the mail set up. I just don't want to mess around with it without knowing what I need to do. If anyone out there has a solution, pls send a step by step.
Any help appreciated, replies might be slow - like I said, no email alerts of mails getting through at the moment (so have to read everything only when I'm online...).

Restart your router and your broadband device, if they're separate. If there's no change, see below.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • IPhone Mail App cannot connect with gmail iMap server

So my gmail address list or contacts seems to have been hacked and all my contacts who are still talking to me have told me so.
So I changed my gmail password.
No more complaints, and probably no more friends as contacts.
But seriously, I have been able to get gmail (web) working with my new double authentication password(s). Also, my outlook for MAC is working using the special "generated App Password". (because Outlook cannot do the double authentication thingie)
Ditto for the gmail app from google on my iPhone. (it works too)
    BUT
I cannot get the iPhone Mail App to connect to Gmail.
I have deleted (i thought) my existing gmail setup from my iPhone. When I try to re establish the gmail settings, using either the password generated by the MAC / iCloud keychain generator or the App password, I get the message "My Name" is already added.
It looks to me that there is something in the iPhone that matches my gmail address, even though I deleted the account.
Any suggestions before I call Apple for help?
    Thanks
    Barry

    I think so.
Actually I think I need to get the App Password for Mail on my phone. It generates the app password and I enter it into the password in the gmail setup for mail.
The problem is that when I hit next on that page, I get the message:
"my name" is already added" and I cannot proceed.
Before doing this setup I deleted my gmail account by tapping the email address and hitting delete in the Mail, Contact and Calendars setup..
but, there is something hiding in my iPhone that remembers my old gmail password (I guess) and doesn't let me proceed.
If I enter my gmail iChain password I get the same thing.
If i do this in airplane mode (no connection to google) i also get the same.
I talked to an apple care person who had me reset all my settings... still the same thing.
I am trying to avoid a gull reset of the iPhone, but that may be in the cards.
Going to go to the apple store and ask there, but i am not hopeful.

Well, I've never used this API but it seems 100% clear what's wrong. And 5 seconds with Google has revealed that there's a method on that class which looks like it will address the issue.
If you can't even read basic error messages, you should seriously question whether you should be programming.

  • Mail Will Not Connect

As of yesterday evening (September 12th, 2009), I have been unable to receive new emails into Apple Mail, and also was unable to connect to iChat. The second issue was solved by resetting to port 443, but after scouring the forums I have not found a similar fix for Mail that has worked for me. I have already tried restarting the computer, running software updates, and deleting the mail preferences from the library -- this last one worked until I tried to set up my accounts again, at which point I received this message:
"The Mobile Me IMAP server "mail.mac.com" is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable."
If this is the case, that the server is simply unavailable at this time, I'm willing to accept that. However, I'm receiving a similar message when I try to set up my gmail account, and I am inclined to believe that both servers have not gone down at the same time.
I don't care about loosing old emails by setting up the accounts again and starting fresh, but I don't seem to be able to receive mail that way either. Is there anything else that I can reset in account preferences? Should I perhaps try a manual setup for the accounts?
    Thank you--
    --Silvertrumpeter

I do not believe that this is a password issue. After watching the Activity window and the Connection Doctor, I got a message suggesting that I turn off SSL and try again. So I did, and watched the Activity and Connections windows again, with the same result. The Connections Doctor window tells me this:
"Connection Status: Mail was able to connect to the internet."
But next to my mobile me account name is the red status light, and the message that mail "Could not connect to this MobileMe IMAP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the account preferences." Now, since this was all set up automatically, I'm guessing that I have not entered any incorrect information, but if anyone knows exactly what it should say, I'd be grateful to have that information.

  • IPad 2 mail does not allow a gmail imap configuration.  Why?

iPad 2 mail does not allow a gmail imap configuration.  Why?

It does, but you can do better then that. You can set gmail as exchange, it will give you even more options.
The only thing that you need to know additional to regular stuff, is that instead of gmail you have to use Microsoft Exchange, and the name of google server is m.google.com. Instructions right here.

  • Mavericks mail will not allow me to add a gmail account

    Help!
I am using running OSX Mavericks, including the new version of Mail 7.0 (1822). I cannot add a GMail account. Going through Mail: Preferences: Accounts, I give the information, but then get told:
There was a problem setting up the account.
Unable to verify account name or password.
If I click ok (the only option), Mail quits, so I cannot use the Connection Doctor to see what else is happening.
All my other programs that access the internet work, and I can access google calendar, for example, via BusyCal.
There must be something simple happening.... By the way, Mavericks Mail works perfectly on my machine at work!
    Suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!
    Roger

I had the same issue...I called apple support and they gave me the following instructions. Seems to be working perfectly fine.
    - Go to Apple Mail
    - Hit on Preferences, go to Accounts and hit the "+" button
    - Select "Add other mail account", and hit continue
    - Enter your Full Name, email address, and password (DO NOT HIT CREATE)
    - Push down the option key, and while holding down the option key hit "NEXT"
    - It will route you to the Incoming Mail Server Info window, here you will type in the Mail Server as: imap.gmail.com. Again type in your user name (complete email) and password. And again, hold down the option key, and while holding down the option key hit "NEXT".
    - Then it wil route you to the Outgoing Mail Server. Type in the Outgoing Mail Server as: smtp.gmail.com, and again your email and password.
    -Hit Create
Once you see the email account on your Apple Mail sidebar, go to compose a new message and send yourself an email to the new email account from your new email account
This worked for me and synced all my folders. Hope it works for you as well.

  • Mail.app not connecting post 10.5.6 upgrade

Since upgrading to 10.5.6 Mail no longer connects to any of my email accounts, including Exchange server and POP accounts (2). All I get is a timeout window. I have deleted Exchange account and tried to re-enter, but still unable to connect. There is not a connection problem with the machine because Entourage, running on the same machine can still connect (unfortunately had to fire it up when Mail threw in the towel). I have reinstalled OS 10.5.6 but to no avail.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

    G'Day Simon,
Before you upgraded to 10.5.6 did you (and I ask this carefully) by any chance do a backup and repair disk permissions? It's a common question asked by most of the knowledgeable ones on this forum and I must admit I follow that process before I upgrade as too often I read of the sad stories here where problems are encountered.
As a first step have you tried repairing disk permissions since the upgrade?
Have a look at this post too just in case it is relevant.

    For info.
I do know how it's complex to program and more for an OS System.
Maverick's Mail DOES NOT work proprely with Gmail boxes ? Gmail incoming or outcoming messages are correctly notified on my iPhone 5s with iOS 7. But not on my Macbook Pro retina (end 2012) with Mavericks. One update was suppose to solve the trouble.
Hope you'll solve the problem as soon as possible. Bur not during the nights. But during your daytimes' work !
Wish you nice end of year's days.
And please get my best wishes for 2014. Hope you'll get a lot of these nice little moments of happiness.

Have you checked your incoming and outgoing mail server settings?
If you are using IMAP, it should look something like the following:
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - Requires SSL
    imap.gmail.com
    Port: 993
    Requires SSL:Yes
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - Requires TLS
    smtp.gmail.com
    Port: 465 or 587
    Requires SSL: Yes
    Requires authentication: Yes
Use same settings as incoming mail server
If you are using POP3, it should look something like the following:
    Incoming mail server type: POP3
Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server: pop.gmail.com. Google Apps users, enter the server name provided, don't add your domain name in these steps.
              Port: 995
Outgoing e-mail server (SMTP) name: smtp.gmail.com
         Port: 465
    Outgoing server requires authentication: enabled

  • Mail on mac air not connecting with Gmail

    Hello
I have a Mac Air and Mail has been working fine but stopped a couple of months ago. Same account still works fine on iPad and iPhone. I have not changed anything like passwords etc.and I can still connect with gmail via safari on this device. Looked at Connection Doctor and internet connection is fine but connection to IMAP and SMTP are saying connection failed and asking to verify username and password. That verification comes up when I first open Mail but the password is not accepted.
Has anyone else had similar problems.
