Exchange mail very slow on OS X yosemite
Often when a system update comes out, Mail is the culprit in each release. This release is no exception. I updated to OS X Yosemite and accessing my emails through Mail is painful if not nearly impossible. Exchange connects without error and syncs up all services without a problem - except Mail which is constantly pushing requests to Fetch information from the server, constantly syncing. As a result it means I can't read my email let alone reply to them.
I removed my exchange account and delete my Mail cache and local folders, readded the account, but still no joy.
IS anyone else have issues with this or simply me ?I have a similar problem. Mail is very slow performing actions on Exchange server such as deleting mail, fetching mail. It is very slow even sowing the rainbow spinner often when performing an action. This is an upgrade from Mavericks on a Mac Mini (late 2012) with a 2.6GHz i7 quad core CPU. It is connected to an Exchange Server 2010. When I use connection doctor it takes a very long time to show a connected message.
I have tried deleting the account and re creating it but the problem persists.
The issue does not exist on Airmail 2 connected to the same Exchange Server on the same computer nor does it happen on an MacBook Air 11 (mid 2012) where the Yosemite install is an upgrade from Yosemite Beta 6.
Any ideas how to fix this? -
Mac Mail very slow when waking
Hello
Mac Mail is very slow on my machine, just stalls and gives me the spinning wheel for several minutes. Usually it is when the machine has woken up; it appears that it is trying to do background tasks (like fetching mail) while this is going on but I am unable to switch to Mail for quite a long time. I sometimes see notifications of new mail in this period, equally it sometimes shows in Activity Monitor as "not responding" (although if I wait it eventually comes back).
It is runnning on a brand new MBP retina, lots of RAM, disk and processor available.
It collects mail from four mailboxes, three of them are Exchange and one is IMAP. None are massively high volume, kind of normal to low usage for the average person I guess. I did rebuild the database a while ago, but it just lost lots of mail which then needed to be slowly re-downloaded. I gave up on Outlook (on my previous machine) for being generally crashy, dysfuctional and annoying but now Mail isn't far behind.
Contacts, which I just leave open in the background quite often, also seems to be having trouble staying alive. Often "not responding" and requires a forced quit.
Any suggestions?
DominicPlease follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
Back up all data.
Quit Mail.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Relaunch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you'll have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically. -
Mac Mail Very Slow (Spinning ball)
Hi -
My Mac Mail has gotten very very slow lately when first opening the app, or returning to the app after a long rest.
The ball starts spinning and it takes about 2-3 mins before I can use mail.
My mail database is very very large. 20GB, so I assume that is part of the problem. I did rebuild but that didn't seem to help.
Any ideas on how I can handle that, other than dumping my archive? Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.

Sending mail very slow after 10.9.5 upgrade.
I upgraded to 10.9.5 yesterday and ever since then, sending mail (using Mail.app) is very, very slow or the emails do not get sent and stay stuck in my Outbox.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
I've deleted my iCloud account and re-added it and it didn't help.Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages

When I send an email. The wheel spins for quite awhile before the message leaves. This is a relatively new problem. I'm not sure if it started when I installed 10.5
MAC Mail, for some reason, wants a DNS server setting in the network setup.
Under System Preferences, go to Network and add your DNS numbers for your ISP Server. Get the right numbers from your ISP. I did a search for "DNS" on the ATT/YAHOO member web site.
This fixes the slow checking and sending of mail....It also fixes problems where mail sends slow and may give Authentication errors.
I spent many hours on this and finally the answer was posted on this forum.
Public DNS servers are less likely to be changed. They have been tried and do work. Nobody knows why.
For Public DNS servers look at.

Macbook Pro 2010 Mavericks running very slow
Been having some trouble with my machine for a while now. Mostly seems related to internet programs. Google chrome, kernel task or this proccess will take up all of my processor power. Switching windows will sometimes hang, and when I try and restart my computer applications will need to be force quit to shut down. Applications that don't take up many proccesses, and operate fine normally.
Had something similar happen before my reformat. Had similar issues under mountain lion. Installed Mavericks, hoping it might help (and wanting a few of the new functions) but it didn't change it. Reformatted, and installed all apps from scratch rather than using time machine, since I thought it might be a software issue. I have done both permissions and disk repair. I've had disk repair find errors twice or three times in the last two months. Maybe slow hard disk failure?
Any advice/assitance would be appreciated.
Thanks!I've stopped using Chrome, and I'm having much fewer problems. *****, cause I really like the browser, but it was one of the major culprits.

MacBook Pro 15-inch, Mid 2010 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 with Mavericks is very slow
Hi everybody,
i have already seen this discussion (https://discussions.apple.com/message/24018625#24018625) started by campitor and allegedly solved by arthur but only for campitor's concrete case and already closed. Therefore I have made the same checkup with Etrecheck (see below). It would be really great to solve this problem because I need my mac for work and I am getting really desperate: it's just too slow for effective working. I am really desperate and really thankful for any kind of hint or help that could bring back my machine to normal workable speed.
cheers,
Cris

Besides the notebook described below in the signature I have a MacBook right next to it. On both, the same three email accounts are configured exactly the same. One account is the IMAP MobileMe (aka .mac) account. The other two are POP accounts, for one of which I have a digital certificate. When I send mail through that account, it can take up a minute before the "busy" icon next to the Sent mailbox for the account disappears and the "whoosh" sound is heard. On the MacBook, the same mail is sent almost instantly. The digital certificate is in a password-protected part of my keychain, so on both notebooks I am prompted -- with almost no delay between pressing the Send button and receiving the prompt -- for that password before the actual send operation begins.
By the way, both notebooks are connected wirelessly to the same Apple AirPort Extreme, so I suspect that the problem is unrelated to the network infrastructure.Hello Niken:
I fixed a similar problem by using OpenDNS.
http://www.opendns.com/
I think the problem might have been with my ISP, but using open DNS solved the slow mail transmission on both of my macs.

I noticed this at one point and what I did, which worked, was to delete the mailbox from my iPad, then reinstall it. Give it a try and see if it helps you as well.

Mail very slow in Mountain Lion
The upgrade to Mountain Lion went smoothly but Mail works really badly afterwards.
When sending an email, it takes a few minutes before the mail goes out. And that's with any size message.
Auto-completion of mail addresses while composing takes multiple minutes. Even after it finally comes up with a list of email addresses, pressing enter on one also takes minutes to acknowledge
At various times, hitting the mail icon on the dock has no effect. The same is true with Command+TAB
Overall, the unresponsiveness is painful and making me wish I hadn't upgradedThis didn't solve my problem. First of all:
$ ls /Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
ls: /Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist: No such file or directory
but I do have the file in my local Library:
$ pwd
/Users/spate/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferences
$ ls -l *mail*
lrwxr-xr-x 1 spate spate 64 Jul 26 11:08 com.apple.mail.LSSharedFileList.plist@ -> ../../../../../Preferences/com.apple.mail.LSSharedFileList.plist
-rw------- 1 spate spate 6733 Jul 27 08:24 com.apple.mail.plist
-rw------- 1 spate spate 56130 Jul 27 08:12 com.apple.mail.plist.bak
This is after I moved com.apple.mail.plist to com.apple.mail.plist.bak and then started Mail again. As you can see, it created a new, much smaller com.apple.mail.plist
No luck - just as painfully slow as before!
This is horribly painful! -
I upgraded to Yosemite a few weeks ago. ever since my email has been painfully slow connecting to the iMAP server. Messages will sit for hours in my outbox, and attachments take forever to download. I have tried the offline/online work around. Makes no difference. I try quitting and re-opening mail, no difference. I am now re-building my mail boxes but the speed or lack of it in downloading the messages back from the server seems soooooo slow. Any other ideas anyone please??

Mail very slow to get new mail after Lion upgrade
After I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion my Mail application has become very sluggish. It takes ages to show new mail from my Gmail account. It seems to spend ages downloaded messages. If I access my Gmail via Safari it is virtually instant.
Any advice most welcome!I had a similar problem and it was related to my wireless network settings. The Lion upgrade had created a second wireless network setup named Apple 888.b1 on my airport/time capsule. I deleted that second phantom one so it was just back to the one that I had setup and everything is fine again.
So if your broadband connction is wireless you might check the wireless settings and see if a second network setup was created. -
Morning, ever since I upgraded my os from Snow leopard to Mavericks certan programs and the macbook pro itself seems to work extremely slow at times and after all this time I feel I am at rock and place to either downgrade or increase the memory and harddrive on my mac.
However how fair is this, I need a solution. There are too many times only 38mb of memory is available and when I was running snow leopard it was not like this
I await your timely responseHello cellisarch,
