Maverick OS problems

Since downloading Maverick OS the other day, it seems to have stuffed up my Office 365... wants me to reactivate accounts. When I put my info into reactiate it, it doesn't recognise me!
Has anyone else experienced difficulties with their Office for Mac 2011 since downloading the new OS?

Recover the backup you made before updating.  If you didn't backup, you may have to use data recovery software:

I have a 2009 Macbook Pro with 1T hdd 8GB Ram and ran Maverick without problem...Yosemite installation has me completely frozen, nothing works but the spinning ball...I had to force shutdown last night, and haven't turned it on again...what do you advise?  During installation emptied cache, etc. Backed up using time machine, fortunately.

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

CS6 ist kein Problem auf Maverick. Alle Produktaktualisierungen solltest Du auch installieren.

  • I have 2006 MacBookPro running Mountain Lion.  Would like to install Maverick, any problems?

I have a MacBook Pro I got in Dec. 2006.  Have Mountain Lion installed.  Some new apps require Maverick, any problems, like slowness, etc installing Maverick?
    Thanks,
    Bill

If you are running Mountain Lion, you don't have a 2006 Macbook Pro. If you are running 10.8, then you can run Yosemite.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks/Yosemite.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher

  • Slow Mavericks and problem system launch daemons

Like some other users here I've experienced a big slowdown since installing Mavericks.
I ran EtreCheck (good app!) and I see that I have several failed Apple daemons. I don't know what they do but I guess this is not a good thing.
Can anybody shed any light on these failed daemons and what I can do to fix them?  Are they likely to be part of the slow running problem?
    cheers all!

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|timed? ?o' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, andIdle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Lightroom 5.3 into Mavericks import problem

    Hello,
I'm stuck. Any help greatly appreciated. I'm struggling to import my image files from an external USB3 hard drive into Lightroom.
I'm running Lightroom 5.3 on a slim late 2013 27 inch iMac, on Mavericks (OSX 10.9.1). The Processor is 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7, with 24 GB of Ram. There's 3 TB of disc space on the iMac.
I've chosen to Add a folder of 723 images to Lightroom's catalog and the first 200 thumbnails do import quickly. The progress bar then hangs at the message ' Import Files at their current location.' Eventually I click cancel and another 25 thumbs appear, leaving me a total of 225 instead of the full 723. I've repeated this operation several times and get the same results on the iMac.
I then plugged the same external drive of photos into my eight year old Mac Book Pro running Lightroom 5.2 on Lion (10.8.5) and the 723 files imported fine.
I've tried trashing Lightroom 5.3's preferences on the iMac, but no improvement.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I have thousands of shots I'd like to work with on the iMac's large screen, but I'm still stuck with using my old laptop's small screen for now.
    Cheers,
    George

    I am using a (new) Pegasus2 R6 formatted as RAID10.
I have also seemingly isolated the problem to LR5.3; I just got an older macbookpro (late 2012) which happened to have LR 5.0 - with this I opened the LR catalogue on the Pegasus (the empty catalogue created by LR 5.3), and was immediately able to import photos and video. What is more the video previews are displaying and videos are running when double clicked - neither of which was working in 5.3
It is a big import and preview build - when it completes I will reopen the catalogue on the newer MBP (Feb 2014 with LR 5.3) and report on whether the videos work.
UPDATE: I can now say that the files imported by LR5.0 run fine in LR5.3 - I just can't import the files directly into 5.3. Import from camera works fine. The files I am trying to import are all 'Saved with metadata' from a PC version of LR5.3

  • Mavericks upgrade problems - download hanging

Seeking help with curious problem. I've been trying, unsuccessfully so far, to upgrade a mac mini to Mavericks from OS 10.7.5 (Mid 2011, 2.7 GHz Core i7, 8 GB RAM). Download starts and proceeds  slowly but ultimately stalls at 1.01 GB downloaded or about 20% of the way into the total download size (5.30 GB). I delete the hung download/start of install out of Launchpad and start again at the app store but the process simply repeats - it starts off well but stops at 1.01 GB downloaded. Most vexing.
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Zenurgist

the 1.01GB limit is an issue with 2-Wire or BT HomeHub routers.  It is either 995Mb or 1.01Gb limits.  The workaround is to go somewhere else that doesn't use these routers.

  • Mavericks RDX problem and solution?

Quite  not sure what happened but i observed a problem using RDX media catridges in FCP before. With Mavericks a new error dialogue appared:
"Der Speicherort „VideoRAW_2“ auf diesem Computer wird bereits von „(null)“ auf „(null)“ verwendet. Um Zugriff auf den Speicherort zu erhalten, beenden Sie Final Cut Pro auf „(null)“ oder entfernen Sie den Speicherort. "
This message appeared permanently after each start of FCPX.
    Google translate traslates this into:
"The location "VideoRAW_2" on this computer is already used by "(null)" to "(null)". To get access to the location you quit Final Cut Pro to "(null)" or remove the location."
"VideoRAW_2" is the name of the used RDX Catridge. Renaming the Catridge to "Videoplatte_2" solved this problem for me and the volume appears in the Volume List. Rerenaming this to "VideoRAW_2" does not bring the error message again.
    So my question is combined:
First of all: I qould like to ask if somebody also has observed such behaviour?
Was the simple renaming the solution itself and forced the databased to actualise?
Are there any other ideas? F.I. the RAW in the name of the media could have caused problems too?
    Regards
    Andreas

    hi P S,
No SAP system at the client will be error free or problem free.
the problems comes up mostly because of the human errors.
during the configuration, there wont be much problems but the main problems comes up in the testing phase. in this stage your configured system should give you output as per your requirement.
during the production support, particularly in payroll the payslips will be wrongly printed. the main reason for this is the incorrect entry of master data. so the user has to be careful when entering the data.
there may be problems in the posting of the payroll results to FI.
at the year-end, there can be some issues in the adjustments of the amount.
in this way, there are lot of issues which comes up during the use of the system.
    regards,
    salman

I recently upgraded my operating system to Maverick.
Since then my time machine back up disk won't back up due to lack of space, which wasn't previously an issue and my Mac won't shut down properly just goes to blank white screen and freezes.
Not sure if the two things are linked or what's causing the problem.
Any suggestions and help gratefully received

  • Mavericks install problems - repeatable

I have attempted to install Mavericks on my iMac 7,1 twice now with the same result.  The software will download and install until the progress bar reaches one minute, at which point it may take 5-15 minutes to complete.  Following that the system reboots, I get the chime followed by the spinning progress wheel and then the boot hangs.  I'm left with an iMac at a white desktop with the Apple logo, I can go no further.  This has happened twice and my Time Machine backups have restored my machine both time.  I very hesitant to attempt again without understanding the problem.
    My machine configuration is:
    Model - 7,1 (20")
    OS 10.8.5
    RAM - 4 GB
    141/500 GB disk free
    Thank you,
    Bob

I had this issue on a Mac mini. I chose to use the Recovey boot, restored my system a few times...rinse..repeat...
At this point I ran Disk Utility instead of restoring my mac. I noticed that the Mavericks disk image was laoded, so I thought that I would try to boot holding down the OPTION key, and hope that the Mavericks disk appeared in the Starup Manager. It did. I chose to boot from the Mavericks disk, on the starup volume screen, and the install proceded without a hitch - all of my settings, files and programs were intact after the update to Mavericks.
I am having Spotlight indexing issues now, but I see others are ahving the same problem, so I don't think it's related.

Just tried upgrade to Mavericks and now have network problem! Also got message to upgrade to java 6 but can't get on network to download! Help!!!

    Hope this helps.

  • HT201364 Mavericks Upgrade Problems

Hi, Im not sure why i cant upgrade to Mavericks as i think my mac meets the requirements? Im running OS X 10.6.8, have 2gb of memery and plenty of hard drive space. Any suggestions?

Oh nothing major.  It's a little slow but overall is fine.  I just don't want any problems like some people get when they try and upgrade a 4 yr old computer.  What do you think?

  • Motion crashing in Mavericks - Is Problem Report Helpful?

Motion is repeatedly crashing today running under Mavericks. Is the Problem Report helpful to users in determining what is causing the problem?
Here is some of the info from the report. Is this interpritable by humans (or animators)?
At the top it mentions that Thread 5 crashed:
    Crashed Thread:  5
    Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000018
Then at the Thread 5 section it says:

    7   libsystem_pthread.dylib                 0x00007fff91c24fc9 thread_start + 13
Then a little lower, this is stated.
Thread 5 crashed with X86 Thread State (64-bit):

It would probably be more useful if you include the following when you post these:
What exactly are you doing when you hit this crash? Giving details always helps, when people post details I usually try the steps if they provided them.
Paste the full thread, including the header.  Sometimes someone will catch details like the OS or app version being out of date, or the application has been moved to a location it should not be (burried inside multiple folders).
Make sure you submit the crash to Apple!   Any time I hit a crash I always submit a the report with an explanation of what I was doing.

  • HT4628 How to solve WIFI Maverick Upgrade Problem?

Hi guys, so I have explored all options on the site and forums so far. After my upgrade to Mavericks I cannot find my wifi signal, or very very rarely.
It never stays. Often there are "connection time out errors". There are 2 iphones, 1 ipod, a old Apple powerbook, and Windows7 Machine all connected to the signal, never a problem. Up until my updgrade to Mavericks it also was strong, fast, connected, 500 feet away!
I am 10 feet away from the wifi device. I also have one other signal I do get but it drops continuously and will not stay. Its a very slow connection which I am writing from now. But at least I see that one!
What I have tried to fix this:
    Restart
Repair Disk Permissions ( about a thousand times...) -Failed
    Force Quit(Hard Reset) -Failed
    Reset SMC -Failed
Delete all network settings and keychain info. -Failed
    Reset Router -Failed
    Diagnostics -Failed
Joined network in "Safemode" and restarted. -Failed
    Change channel signals  -Failed
This is really causing me productions problems since I earn my income by being online
I have not even done the last big security update because I cannot stay online long enough to get that complete!
Does anyone have any more ideas? I am scared to reset PRAM... the last thing I have not tried (I once tried that with one of my former macs and my logic board died.)
Please advise, I am so frustrated. I just need to work...
Do I ditch Mavericks? Go back to Snow Leopard or maybe it was Tiger...? And if so, how?
All this as my i wifes phone, a powerbook, lenovo windows computer all happily stay connected. My ipod and iphone have no problems even 900 feet away.
    My stats... running 10.9.1
      Model Name:          MacBook
      Model Identifier:          MacBook6,1
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:          2.26 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          2
      L2 Cache:          3 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
      Bus Speed:          1.07 GHz
      Boot ROM Version:          MB61.00C8.B00
      SMC Version (system):          1.51f53
      Sudden Motion Sensor:
      State:          Enabled

Just an update, when turning off icloud access to the Keychain, my wifi signal appeared and I tried to join it. But had connection time out error.

  • MacBook Pro with OS X Mavericks update problem

MacBook Pro.  System updated on its own last night.  Screen is now black upon startup.  Screen is black with cursor only in safe mode.  I already repaired permissions, verified disks, and reinstalled OS X Mavericks.  Still nothing.  Ideas?

    I've found the problem!!
Mavericks for some reason overheats the GPU.
I downloaded a free 3 day trial of Temperature Gauge Pro   http://www.tunabellysoftware.com/tgpro/
It showed a GPU 0 diode temperature of 122 degrres C. I think that's about 250 degrees Farenhiet. Insanely hot. No wonder the poor thing was crapping out. TGP alows fan control and so I set them to maximum and watched the temp come down quickly.
After all these months of frustration it turned out to be a simple fix. So I bought the program for $10. Sure a lot cheaper than having the Apple Experts replace a GPU or CPU like some have sugested.
What I still can't figure out is why Apple won't fix the problem from thier end and just update the fan parameters on Mavericks.
