Maverick shutting and restarting due to problem
Having a problem with Maverick, computer keeps quitting and restarting.
At this time the only thing I can think to solve this problem, is reinstalling Maverick.
Any better sugestions ?

Hi Bilesco,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your computer is shutting down unexpectedly, start with the following troubleshooting steps.
First, start up in safe mode and see if the issue occurs there:
Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564
If the issue does not appear in safe mode, it may be caused by a software conflict on your system.
If the issue still occurs in safe mode, next try resetting your computer's NVRAM and System Management Controller using the instructions in these articles:
About NVRAM and PRAM

My imac OS 10.8.4 keeps crashing and restarting "due to problem"
My imac running OS X 10.8.4, with the group update installed keeps crashing and restarting itself at various intervals and running different software each time. This last time, I tried to double check the 10.8.4 group update was installed, ran it and the install seemed to complete, but then upon restart, I still got the "your computer was restarted due to a problem" message. I also got this message when I restarted in safe mode - and I selected the restart from the apple menu.
Here is the latest Problem Report, below. Please let me know what additional information might be helpful to help figure this out. It's making it impossible to get any work done.

I recently purchased a 13" MacBook Pro and my MBP will go into the screen saver/sleep mode while I am not using it. However, when I click the trackpad so I can sign back in, my MBP freezes and restarts. Once it finishes restarting it pops up with an error message stating that it restarted due to a problem. I've done a hardware check and I've updated all the software, and no known issues were found. I do not know what could be causing the problem, any ideas as to what might be the problem?

I tried to understand those posts, but don't really.
I can see all my backups just fine, but for instance the folder "documents" or "desktop" will have the forbidden sign on top of it. So I can't see what's in those folders, cause I don't have permissions to view them. It's not a big problem, and maybe I should delete all the old backups, I just don't understand why I won't be able to view them.
Are you seeing this in Time Machine, or via the Finder?
Time Machine uses special "deny everybody everything" permissions on it's backups, to keep us mere mortals from altering them via the Finder, as that can hopelessly corrupt them.
We may need to know just how you set up your new Mac.
There are two similar ways to do it; the easiest is to use +Setup Assistant.+ When you first started up the new Mac and selected your language, you were asked if you wanted to "transfer" your users, apps, and data (see #19 in theFrequently Asked Questions *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum, for details).
If you did not select that option, then you would have made one user in the setup process; restarted, then used the +Migration Assistant+ app (in your Applications/Utilities folder) to transfer things.
It sounds like you may have used +Migration Assistant,+ but are not using the same user account to access the backups. Time Machine won't let one user access a different user's backups.
But try the Browse option, per #E2: hold down the Option key while selecting the TM icon in your Menubar, or right-click the TM icon in your Dock. You'll see a selection screen showing all the disks/partitions that have TM backups on them. Select the one you want, and you'll be taken to the normal TM "Star Wars" interface, where you should see all the backups on that disk/partition. -
Phone heats up, hangs and restarts due to problems with the media index.
A few times a week my phone heats up, hangs, and goes into a restart loop every few minutes, which drains the battery quickly. After some research in the diagnostics app I have come to the conclusion that it is the Media Storage app that hangs. I see spontaneous restarts in the android.process.media process every few seconds. A work-around is to go into settings, apps, all apps, media storage (Lagring av Media, in swedish, or android.process.media in android) and clear data. This immediately stops the problem, but then I usually need to reboot the phone manually once to get it to rescan all media again, since all that indexed data was lost.
I suspect that my sd card (SanDisk microSDXC Mobile Ultra 128GB (Class 10)), with 90GB of MP3 files has somehow related to do, or at least makes matters worse, although I haven't tried to go for a week without it. The media data is usually around 50MB, when I clear it, this quickly rebuilds, until next time...
The media storage index seems to be prone to corruption, and/or one or more processes reading or writing is corrupt.
This is a nuisance since if I don't catch it rebooting right away I can be without battery quickly.
So, even though the fix is easy now that I've found it, I would rather not have the problem at all. Worst of all, is when this happens when I'm in a call, or when someone tries to call or text me, but I don't notice, since the phone is hung. Also there is nothing wrong with the phone, this must be a software issue, where an error isn't handled correctly.
In the early days of researching this problem, I did a factory reset, which actually cleared up some other issues I'd had with bluetooth connection in the factory installed software (even though it was of the same version). After this I waited to install any apps, and just went with standard vanilla android and sony apps. Still the same problem occurred after a couple of days. So it isn't related to third party software either. I see lots of posts online which detail this workaround, some as old as a few years old, but none with a real solution.
Help please?I recieved a reply from Sony Xperia Care support. They suggested removing the SD-card to see if that helped. Fingers crossed I have now gone three days without acting up. The next time it does I'll try removing the sd card and see if I can break the record of seven days without a problem.
They claim that it can be a hardware fault with the SD-card (highly unlikely in my opinion). Or a corrupt file on the card. I have only used the phone operating system and the Sony PC Companion application to transfer files. None of them have warned me about corrupt files. Also, if I can go seven days without a problem, why not eight? It's not like it acts up every time I access a particular file. It's just random, and rarely when I'm doing anything that access files on the sd-card.
My guess is still that the media storage indexing is buggy. It's much more likely that the storage index is corrupt, than a file, for this behaviour to occur. Note that I work as a software test officer, with 25 years of IT experience, so I have a vague idea what I'm talking about. -
Cannot download an issue of a subscribed magazine on news stand. The download has paused and cannot midway and every time I click on resume it asks to shut and restart the app. Done that several times. Even restarted the iPad but the problem continues.
Do a search with Spotlight for ".plist" (without the quotes). In that list (should be very long) there should be a file named com.apple.itunes.plist. Delete that file by dragging it from the Spotlight list to the Trash. Don't worry if you drag the wrong file and delete it, as these are preference files that recreate themselves when you launch an application.

Macbook Pro...my screen goes black and it restarts itself. The message after it restarts says "restart due to problems" Any ideas what I should do or look for? It randomly happens and is becomeing more frequent.

I installed Mavericks yesterday and have now got problems with QuarkXpress 9. Every time I click on an image and try to move it the application crashes. Anyone had similar problems or got any suggestions?
Hi Guys
Updated my 2 imacs to Maverick yesterday. Schoolboy error on my part not checking if there were problems with any programmes before I did.
Quark is now a nightmare with no short term answer on the way. As a Quark user for over 20 years this is just another reason to hold your hands up and say OK Indesign you win I will have to learn how to use you and Quark will be a distant memory.
I am told there will probably be no solution to getting quak 9 running on Maverick and that you will need to update to 10 in about 2-3 weeks to get back to normal. Having spent a few bob on 2 versions of 9.5 only in Feb this year i didn't really want to upgrade yet.
So its cough up to carry on using Quark or learn Indesign.
I have lost faith in Quark as they are quick to send me e-mails asking me to upgrade to this and that version, why didn't they send one out saying do not upgrade to Maverick. Perhaps they know there loyal follwing will uograde to 10 and will generate a nice little bonus before Xmas.
Lots to do today and will now take 10 times longer to do it. Is this 2013 or 1974!!!!!
If anyone hears of a solution please post ASAP -
OSX Mavericks crash and restart on mid-2010 13" model
Hi all,
I've recently upgraded from OSX Lion to Mavericks (original MBP OS was Snow Leopard). In the last few days, the system has regularly frozen and then automatically restarted. I have checked the log, and it seems to originate from a kernel panic (?). I've pasted the most recent error report below.
I've read a number of discussions that say this is a know problem with mid-2010 15" MBP, which apple may still repair: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5512212?tstart=0 . My MBP is a mid-2010 13" model, and I'm not sure if this problem is applicable to my machine as well.
If anybody has any advice on how to reset this, I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks!

Brand new Macbook Pro keeps crashing and restarting - Mavericks
Hey guys, I just got a new Macbook Pro on Monday and my first time turning it on it was perfect, the next day I turned it on and kept crashing and "Restarting due to a problem", it wouldn't even make to to the log in page. Every time I power it up now I get the same issue over and over, once I make it passed the log in it is usually fine but does crash sometimes randomly but not much.
I have read here that updating to Mavericks has caused this problem but surely when it came with it and is less than a week old it should be fine? (I'm confused as to why the report says my Mac is Mid 2012, I just bought it!!) Also the only software I have installed is Microsoft Office. I do have Silverlight Plug in installed for Netflix which I read can be an issue with Mavericks.
I downloaded EtreCheck and this is the report I have. Please any help will be great!

Rescue and Recovery 4.21 Problem completing initial HD Image Backup on Z60M
I just ugraded from RnR 3.0 to 4.21. I did have problems uninstalling 3.0 prior to installing 4.21. I was forced to use Your Installer! 2008 to remove 3.0.
My problem is that after installing RnR 4.21, I cannot get it to back up the HD without causing a blue screen error. It will actually get to the end of copying the HD image to my Seagate USB storage device, then have to shut down and restart due to an error detected by windows.
Please help. I am no computer guru, but am a quick study.

My new Macbook Pro Retina keeps restarting "due to a problem", when I open my skype it crashes and my imovie crashes all the time as well. I just got this computer last week. If someone could please help me out.
Call Apple Care.
#1 - You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your computer with no questions asked.
#2 - You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support.
#3 - If you've purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan, your warranty last for 3 years. You can obtain AppleCare anytime up to the first year of the purchase of your computer.
Take FULL advantage of your warranty. Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired. -
I have just updated to Yosemite, but now I can't get the custom short-keys to work.
In Mavericks I had no problem whatsoever, but now even after googeling and restart no solution.
Does anyone have the problem? All the other shortcuts work!Hi Thomas,
I can confirm the problem you are hitting. The XML test trace does not get recognized at all, and it defaults to Eclipse's basic Open File behaviour. I am not sure if it's because the format definition is missing, or if it's because something prevents the trace type from being recognized. I will open a bug about it.
Thanks for identifying this issue!
In the meantime, if you'd like to experiment with XML analyses, you can also take a look at the example at https://github.com/tracecompass/xml-analysis-example .
Cheers,

i cannot open iphoto- the message I am getting says Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command-
I tries and it doesnt work!!What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Why does my computer say 'your computer restarted due to a problem' and continuously loop?
I am trying to upgrade from Lion to Mountain Lion on my iMac. It says that the installation is successful, but then shows 'Your computer restarted due to a problem' and continuously tries to restart.
I tried to set up Apple support with the 90-day complimentary support, but because the iMac itself is older it won't allow me to contact them.
Any help with fixing the problem or how to get in touch with Apple's support is appreciated. You maybe having kernal panic problems.
