  • Mavericks: wake up on lan behavior

    Hi,
after already having issues with Snow Leopard wake up on lan function I now also facing a major problem with wake up on lan function with my Mac Pro.
I checked the support forum and there are tons of entries regarding wake up on lan issues.
In my case the wake up is initiated on LAN (cable) connection by wake up UDP packet (port 9).
The mac is starting to wake up but then suddently the system is going back to sleep before any user access is possible (appr. after 30 sec.)
So I'd like to ask if someone of you is experiencing same issue and if there is a fix available.
I already tried several steps like
    - reboot in safe mode
    - SMC reset (disconnecting the power cable)
    - repairing file permissions
with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 (used version before upgrade to Mavericks) the WOL function is working without problems.
--> as I faced issues with IOnetworkingfamily.kext file I was previously patching the file with a version from 10.6.2 to get WOL working in snow leopard 10.6.8.
So APPLE please fix this issue asap.
    Thanx,
    BR,
    Thomas

    Hi,
is wake up on LAN for your Mac Pro (mine is a early 2009 model) under Mavericks working on your machine?
I'd like to know if this is a general software problem or just appearing on my Mac - (as described above the mac pro is trying to startup after WOL message was received but is then returning to sleep after nearly 30-40 seconds.)
Is there anything I could try to fix this issue or this problem related to the current Mavericks release?
If this is a SW bug is there a fix planned to be released in the near future?
Please help to clarify my questions by letting me know how your system is reacting.
    I appreciate every response.
    Thanx,
    Br,
    Thomas

  • Apps stuck after Mavericks wake up

I just got a Mac Mini and I wanted the latest software so I installed Mavericks. Whenever I leave my computer alone and go do something with app open, for example Opera or VLC player, the current app is stuck beneath the upper bar! It happens every time after waking the computer up. I have a Dell 2709w (1920x1200), connected via HDMI>DVI because, guess what, if I connect it directly over HDMI I can only use 1920x1080 and not the full res, even though the OS says it should be 1920x1200. It's so annoying! As Opera is usually left open I'm able to "stick it out" by quiting it or by loading another application, like Quick Time. This time VLC got stuck on my movie and I was able to captuer a video. Here's the thing - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wMJenj0bng
What the **** is the problem with this thing?!?

If you select Scaled in the Display Preference, do you see 1080p...?
If so, try 1080p instead of the lower Resolution.
If that doesn't help you may need to get a > Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter to support that 27" monitor, because the HDMI port really only supports 24" monitors up to 1900x1200.

  • Macbook Pro WiFi connectivity issues since updating to Mavericks

I upgraded to the Mavericks OSX 10.9.1 and started seeing WiFi issues. The issues seem to happen when I have to wake up the system after closing the lid. I have an Airport Extreme router

I have been having the same problem. When my MacBook Pro running 10.9.1 (Mavericks) wakes up from sleep, whether from shutting the lid or inactivity, the Wi-Fi seaches for a network, but won't reconnect to my known home Wi-Fi network. When I try to select my network from the menu at the top-right of the screen, I get an error message after about 10 seconds saying that the network is unavailable. If I turn off Wi-Fi and turn it back on twice, I can then reconnect to my home Wi-Fi network. This is a very annoying problem. Please fix it in 10.9.2.

  • HT3131 Booting in Clamshell Mode with Bluetooth keyboard

I have a macbook pro with retina display which I am using with two apple 27" monitors. I use a logitech K811 bluetooth keyboard while the macbook is closed. I would like to be able to boot from the keyboard directly. Does anyone know how to do this? I believe I saw instructions somewhere but cannot find them.

    Hey there paulh20016,
It sounds like you are needing to set your Mac to let bluetooth devices wake it from sleep. You can do this in your System Preferences:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Bluetooth.
    Click Advanced.
Select the “Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer” checkbox.

  • Thunderbolt Display - Image stopped working over night, while in sleep mode

    Hi All,
Wondering if anyone has this problem?
Been using TB display fine for over a year.  Connected into it are a couple of external usb hardrives, TB WD backup (which has a mini-HDMI monitor connected into it). The monitor has always worked well with the clamshell closed - seems like previous updates have fixed the odd phantom decision of which monitor should come on and when.
Over the night, after putting the monitor into sleep mode, when I woke it up all systems kicked on (I could hear the external drives working and the other external monitor turned on), but no image came up on the TD display. My macbook thought it was on, as I could sweep my mouse over into it and initiate programs on that screen (but just not see them).
I unplugged everything from the display - still same problem, no image.  When I open my macbook up, while connected, it again thinks the display is active but there is no image.  When I sweep out, my macbook thinks the in-computer display is "Display 4".
Because of the previous nuances with the TD display, I'm hoping hope that this is a software issue, but it kind of seems like hardware.
    Any insights would be great!
    Thanks

    Another update for you all....
While watching a movie on the TV yesterday the Mac Pro and Thunderbolt display went to sleep and once again when I tried to wake them the screen was totally black. I called Apple again and the only thing they could suggest was to take the screen to an authorised service provider so that they can run tests.
After going through the resetting of just about everything I got the screen working again.
I then trawled through forums on various sites and can see that this is quite a common issue - especially if your connected computer is running Mavericks.
Other solutions which people have used are plugging the power plug for the Thunderbolt display into a totally different power source (if that's possible in your set up). Thankfully for me it is.
Another suggesttion which has worked for others is to disable the Power Nap feature within the Energy Saver perference pane.
I did both of those and for the first time this morning the Thunderbolt Display woke up when I woke the Mac Pro!
However I did get an error message that he system had recovered...

Doing more digging in the internet I found this article
    http://sysadminblogger.wordpress.com/2013/12/02/os-x-mavericks-wake-for-network- access-with-no-random-wake-ups/
So I am now thinking that not only has power nap been causing issues with the display but wake for network access is also not really working as Apple intend it to.
As I am a home user there really is no need for me to need wake for network access enabled anyway so I am also going to disable that. Hopefully this will mean that I have no more random phantom wake ups which I think may have been the cause of this issue all along.

  • Window issue with Multiple displays

I have a problem with my new iMac (late 2013) wich is connected to a secondary display (HP w2448hc) with DVI-Minidisplay port adapter.
When Maverick wake from sleep, all de windows are hidden in the screen corners so I can't move them, even if the app is in full-screen mode.
I know how to solve the issue (changing any of the displays preferences options), but is an annoying issue. ¿Anyone knows how to prevent this ?
    I attach some captures:

    Hi Amy,
One thing that may be causing a problem is that TOTAL_COMPANY is a parent in both H1 and H2.  My understanding is that TOTAL_COMPANY can be a parent in H1 OR H2, but not both.
    Hope this helps.

Just an idea for you. There is an entire Apple Discussion forum dedicated to Boot Camp and Windows XP.
Whereas, not everyone here with an Intel iMac has installed, tried to install or has experience with BC & XP, everyone there has or at least has an interest. You may attract help more quickly there.

  • Macbook Pro WiFi connectivity issues

Hi there - planning on contacting Apple directly tomorrow but thought I'd put this question to the community before I run up my phone bill!
For the past few days I've seen my WiFi connectivity go severely downhill, I've had my new Macbook Pro 2012 (non-retina) for a little less than a week, and I haven't had a problem with my internet since a few days ago.
This is DEFINITELY an issue with my computer. I have other computers and an iPhone which work perfectly well with the same network - in fact, my girlfriend was next to me running on her laptop for 20 minutes whilst I sat there pulling my hair out to the messages of "You are not connected to the Internet" and "Network timeout".
The computer was originally installed with OS X Lion, but I updated to Mountain Lion after 2-3 days. (Perhaps it's a problem with this? Is this an ongoing thing with the range or the OS?). I have tried reinstalling the OS X, a frustrating ordeal as I actually needed an internet connection to do this! This, however, doesn't seem to have done too much...
I've tried deleting all information about my network (in the advanced wifi tab, and in Keychain), and also tried entering the wrong password in when manually adding the network, I'd heard that works yet clearly not!...
I feel like I'm using a mobile phone with bad signal when I have to hold the pc in the air as if i'm looking for that "sweet spot" (strangely enough this usually works for a minute)
Any ideas? I feel like I've exhausted all means, I'm at the end of my tether!

  • Sleep/Rewake Issue

    1. after installing Maverick wake up from sleep takes 14 seconds after "keying" and then I have to click the mouse to unfreeze the curser.  2.  If I push the power button it takes 4/5 seconds to come on.  I've tried resetting the Power Saver but no luck.  Can I reinstall Maverick and hopefully solve the problem?  Thanks.

    Hello, R.E.BELL
I am not bothered by your problem on my 10.4.9 G4, but what you describe does not sound to me like a "kernel panic".
... only the display seemed to go to sleep, and the computer stayed active.
Have you checked your System Preferences > Energy Saver settings to see if your Mac is doing what your settings tell it to? Be sure to check the "Sleep", including the "Schedule..." button in the lower right of the window, as well as the "Options" sections of the Energy Saver preferences settings.
If you have set your display to sleep but your computer to stay awake, and if you have your keyboard and mouse connected via your display's USB port, try connecting them to one of your computer's USB ports instead to see if that fixes the problem.
If your Mac is not working in accordance per the settings, is your Mac OS X Maintenance up to date? If so, try doing a Safe Boot. (If you have not used Safe Boot before, you will find help about half-way down the page.) Safe Boot can sometimes correct strange behavior.

  • 2012 Mac Mini blank screen on wake from sleep in Mavericks

I just upgraded from Mt Lion to Mavericks and now my Mac Mini does not awake properly from sleep when I press a key on the keyboard.  It stays dark but I can type in my password even when I can't see the input space and then hit the return and it then the screen functions normally.  I have reset my SMC, zapped PRAM, ran Disk Utilities and DiskWarrior so I think I am covered on these.  I have a Asus monitor connected by HDMI.  Not sure what else to try.  I see the problem surfaces occasionally for other versions of OS X and for a variety of Macs.  Thanks.  Doug

Okay so here is more info as I have been experimenting with this.
Actually my second post is incorrect.  It does stay blank if I put it to sleep but here are the observations:
My Asus 247 monitor upon sleep will go blank and then after a few seconds will show a window saying no HDMI input detected then be blank.  The screen light changes from blue to amber at this point.
Once it is amber and I try to wake the Mac Mini, the light will change back to blue and the monitor displays a message saying HDMI input detected.  Then it stays blank but I can see my cursor in the corner and it displays on the blank screen.  I can move it around normally.
If at this point I turn off the monitor and turn it back on, the screen comes back to normal and I can type in my password and go from there.
In another case if the screen is blank, I can type my password in and then when I hit enter, it is functioning correctly.
I did not have this problem at all in Mt. Lion and nothing else has changed.
Any help/insights would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Early 2008 Mac Pro wakes up from sleep with Mavericks.

Ever since I upgraded to OSX Mavericks on Tuesday, my early 2008 Mac Pro keeps waking up from sleep mode every couple hours. It goes back to sleep again on its own though after a minute, so I'm thinking it's some kind of new automated feature that I'm not aware of. With the Mac Pro being fairly loud when it wakes up from sleep mode, it woke me up three times last night! Is there some kind of option in the system preferences that I'm not aware of that can deactivate this new behavior? I usually only shut down my computer once a week, and keep it in sleep mode when I'm not using it most of the time, but I'm going to have to start shutting it down every  night now to keep it from waking me up throughout the night...

    Hello MARl0,
You may want to disable the Power Nap functionality, if available, in System Preferences -> Energy Saver.

  • HDMI Closed Clamshell mode display wake crash with Mavericks.

    Hi!
    Macbook Pro 2.8 GHz Intel i7, 16GB DDR3 RAM, OS X 10.9.3
So, I am running a macbook pro with an external HD display through the HDMI out on the computer, and the comptuer itself running in closed clamshell mode. Sometimes when the display sleeps I can not wake it up again, to the extent that I have to unplug everything and do a hard reset of my macbook. If music is playing it begins to skip. The display attempts to turn back on but then the screen goes blank. This seems to only happen when the display sleeps, not the computer itself.
I was just wondering if a) Anyone else was having this problem and b) if Apple were aware of it?
I have done my research and I use closed clamshell mode properly (Restart my comptuer when plugging in to the monitor, sleep before disconnecting etc.) and so far I have not lost any data, however I am concerned that having to manually restart my computer 3-4 times a week may at some point severely affect a document I am working on, particularly with Apple's latest software such as Mavericks and Logic X seemingly being so volatile at the moment.
Any help you could provide would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!
