Maverick won't recognize iphoto! help!!

i just upgraded from lion to maverick and now it says it cant access iphot beacuse i had an old version 9.1. ok?! so now what? how do i upgrade so it can acces it?

Upgrade iPhoto on the App Store.
The iWork apps are free with a new iOS device since 1 SEP 2013. They are free with a new Mac since 1 OCT 2013. They are also free with the upgrade to OS X Mavericks 10.9 if you had the previous version installed when you upgraded.

iMac with Mavericks won't recognize new 60D

No drivers are required on the Mac to use the camera.  The Mac will natively recongize the camera.
You can install Canon's supplemental software or you can use the Apple provided software or 3rd party software.
However... when you connect a camera to a Mac and it recognizes the camera, you *can* configure what you want the computer to launch.  By default, a Mac will usually launch iPhoto.
If you open iPhoto (do this EVEN if you don't want to use iPhoto) then go into iPhoto -> Preferences and look at the "General" category.  You'll see an option that reads:  "Connecting camera opens:" with a selection menu next to it.  You can use that menu to pick what you want your Mac to do, then close and quite iPhoto.
When connecting the camera to the computer, do the following:
    Turn the camera off
Use the supplied USB cord to attach the camera to the computer (some caveats here... I'll mention them below).
Power the camera on after it's attached.
About those caveats on step 2.
The reason I say "use the supplied USB cord" instead of use any USB cord is because if you're like me... you've got LOTS of USB cords laying around.  Some of these come with devices that use USB for charging purposes.  And some of those USB cables ONLY bother to wire the power supply pins and not the data transfer pins.  In other words... it looks like a normal cable, but wont actually allow for data transfer.   You will need to take care to make sure you're using a proper cable.
Next I should caveat the use of USB hubs.  Whenever you're having a problem with a computer not recognizing a USB device, it's a good idea to disconnect extraneous USB devices that have nothing to do with your issue AND if there's a USB "hub" involved... bypass the hub and connect the camera directly to a USB port on the computer itself.
I use a USB hub and this particular hub is reliable... but truthfully I had to buy three different hubs before I found one that worked reliably.  I've discovered there are a lot of flakey hubs on the market.  When in doubt... bypass the hub.  If you find that you can get your computer to recognize your camera on a consistent basis if you bypass the hub then you can direct your attention to finding a reliable hub.
That's the end of the caveats.
I wrote a response to a user with a similar issue in which I detail the steps to use the Mac's System Information utility to determine if the camera is showing up as connected to the camera.  You can find that post here:

  • Mavericks won't recognize my lacie external hard drive

I've been using a LaCie external hard drive for my Time Machine backups and it's been working fine until a couple of weeks ago. Mavericks no longer recognizes the drive. I tested the drive out on a non-Mavericks Macbook and it booted up fine. I see there are issues with this, but wondering if anyone has a work around or if you've found there is a fix I can do? Really frustrating to not be able to access my archives or be able to back up my work!

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Macbook pro iphoto 6.0.2 won't recognize iphoto library (backup from DVD)

Just purchased a Macbook Pro with iphoto 6.0.2. Had a G4 powerbook with iphoto 4.0.2 and backed up that iphoto library to 2 DVD's. I loaded the photos and albums from the 2 DVDs to the iphoto library on the macbook. when I launch the iphoto 6.0.2 it does not load any photos and states there are no photos.
Is this an issue of the DVD back up being made under iphoto 4.0.2? Is there another way to back them up if it is....any help would be appreciated....thanks in advance...-D

    Hi kaiman,
I have all the advise in one post here (including Old toad's)so as not to confuse you.
    Backing up your iPhoto Library
    1. Burn the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder to a CD or DVD
This method will give you a burned iPhoto Library folder that can be copied back to your computer to replace a damaged library. You can also use this method to backup an old library when you want to create a new Library to use as your current library.
insert a blank CD into your internal or external CD-RW drive and copy the iPhoto library to the CD icon on your desktop. When you drag the CD icon to the Trash/Eject button in the Dock, you are given the option to burn the CD. Click Burn and the CD is created. To burn a DVD backup of your digital images, use a DVD and a SuperDrive-equipped Mac
The easiest way to burn an iPhoto Library folder in the Finder that is larger than 4.7 gig to fit on one DVD is to burn sections of the folder.
    For an iPhoto 5 Library:
Drag the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop
Double click the folder to open it.
Drag each Year folder to the desktop.
You should be left with the iPhoto Library folder containing all the data files, and the Year folders.
Combine whatever year folders that amount closest to a DVD burn size on one DVD. Make sure that you have burned all the Year folders, then the iPhoto Library folder with all the data files.
If you ever need to use this backup, insert the DVDs into your computer and copy the folders to the desktop. Put all the Year folders back into the iPhoto Library folder. Then put the iPhoto Library folder back into the Pictures folder.
    For an iPhoto 6 Library:
Do almost the same thing except there are three main folders to backup now. the Data, Originals, and Modified. Then the iPhoto Library folder and all the data files within it. It might get too confusing so it might be better to get disc spanning software.
You can also check out applications for disc spanning:
    Disc-spanning software
    DropDMG
    Toast
    Dragon Burn 4
Retrospect Express-comes with some external drives
    Retrospect for Macintosh Desktop Edition
    2. Copy the ENTIRE iPhoto Library to an external drive formated for a Mac. Do not use this as your only back up as the external can also go bad.
    3. Copy the ENTIRE iPhoto Library to your iPod in disk mode
4.Creating your own CDs and DVDs for viewing in iPhoto
This method is a great way to back up Albums of older photos or even your entire library if it is small enough to fit on a DVD. This method will give you a library that will mount within iPhoto in the source column to be viewed. To import any images from this library they need to be dragged into your library in the source column.
If you just want to backup the images in your library:
    1) Within iPhoto select the images, albums or rolls you want to backup. Go to Share>Export and export them to a newly created folder on the desktop. Follow the directions in the next link.
Creating a CD or DVD to be viewed in Windows or by a photo processing company
1.. If you backed up the entire iPhoto Library by burning within iPhoto or burning the folder in the Finder, make sure the burned copy is a good working copy before you delete the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder. You delete the iPhoto Library in the finder by dragging it to the trash when iPhoto is closed. When you next launch iPhoto it will create a new empty library for you to start anew.
    2. If you burned just the images, be aware that that is all you are archiving. No metadata will travel with the images such as comments, keywords, etc.
You can then delete those images within iPhoto by highlighting them and hitting the delete key, then empty iPhoto's trash. Do this often and in groups so iPhoto will not choke on too many images.
And here is the info for transferring a library from one Mac to another:
Copy iPhoto Library folder from one Mac to another
-If the library is small enough, burn the ENTIRE iPhoto Library folder to CD/DVD.
Drag the iPhoto Library folder from the CD/DVD to your Pictures folder of the iMac.
-If the computers are networked, copy the ENTIRE iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder of the other Mac.
-If you have an iPod, copy the ENTIRE iPhoto Library folder to the iPod. Connect the iPod to the other computer and copy the iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder of the other Mac.
-If you have a firewire cable, copy the ENTIRE iPhoto LIbrary folder to the Pictures folder of the other Mac
    Things to keep in mind:
-If the usersnames are different you might have to set the permissions on the iPhoto Library folder to Read/Write for the new user. Check the "apply to enclosed items" at the bottom of the "get info" window.
-If there is another iPhoto Library folder on the other Mac, change it's name so it doesn't get replaced by the iPhoto Library folder you are copying into the Pictures folder...or....drag it to another place on your hard drive.
Now that the library is in the Pictures folder, launch iPhoto and it will open the library. If the library you moved to the new Mac was created on an older version of iPhoto, iPhoto will tell you the library needs to be upgraded. Let iPhoto do the upgrade.

  • IPod charges, iTunes won't recognize iPod - Help!

my iPod charges when connected to my PC but iTunes will not recognize it (it will not come up in iTunes). as a result, i can't add songs to it, etc. i know my USB port works (both do actually). any advice? thanks in advance.

    Hey Rina91!
Have you tried putting your iPod in Disk Mode, then connecting it to your computer again? For more info, read here -> Putting your iPod into Disk Mode
This may be a case of drive letter confusino in Windows. Follow these steps below to try assigning your iPod a different drive letter
Log off of any other users on your computer.
1 - Don’t plug in your iPod yet.
2 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
3 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
4 - Now, with "Computer Management" and Control Panel windows opened, reset your iPod, and connect it.
5 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Here's what it should look like:
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).
For more details, see this article:
Windows confuses iPod drive letter / Changing drive letter
Have you seen all the suggestions in this article, as well? -> iPod appears in Windows, but not in iTunes
See if you have any sucees with those suggetions.

  • 10.9.5 Maverick won't recognize projector

I have a 2013 MBP, running 10.9.5 to a Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 projector.  The projector give me "No Signal"  I am running a cord from the Thunderbolt port to the HDMI port no the projector.
    I have tried:
both thunderbolt ports and both HDMI ports.  The HDMI ports on projector work with a PC.  The thunderbolt ports and cord works when connecting to a plasma and an LCD TV
I have gone to display, and there is no "arrangement " tab.  I have hit option and clicked detect displays.  I have hit F7 with option, shift and control and command.  Ditto with F3.  I have reset the monitor.  I have reset the PRAM on laptop, I have reset the SSC.  I have booted into safe mode.  I download the "display menu" app and set the resolution to 1080, and every other resolution available.  I have restarted the MBP and the monitor, and plugged and unplugged the cord in every conceivable order.
Please help, it should not be this hard to make a presentation.

  • PC won't recognize WPSM54G HELP!

Greetings. I am trying to reinstall my WPSM54G on my wireless network (via Belkin F6D4230-4 router). I can make it through the steps to set up the print server without any errors, but when I go to set up the PC, it does not pick up the WPS. (PC works fine on wireless). I am using XP.
I went through the the settings on the WPS vis the IP address, and set the SSID and WPA2-PSK settings to match my router. I have also tried disabling the firewall, which did not resolve. I have it set to obtain an IP address automatically. The WPS settings do show my printer in there
I had the WPS working with this printer awhile back, but I cannot swear that it was with this particular router, if that matters.
Appreciate any help or suggestions. This is frustrating...!

You can access the setup page of the WPSM54G. Assign a static IP address to the print server so that it will not change the IP address after reboot.
If your computer is able to ping the IP address of print sever then it is communicating with the print server.
You just need to add a printer port on your computer so that it will print through the print server.
What is the operating system on your computer?
Follow this link to configure printer port on windows Vista computer.
Follow this link to configure printer port on windows 7 computer.

  • Mavericks won't connect to UPS

    New iMac.
Mavericks won't recognize Power Inspired VIS1000B ups - 'UPS' option does not appear in Energy Saver preferences pane.
Tried calling Apple support, no knowledge available .....

How about just contact support at the UPS manufacturer - http://www.powerinspired.com/vis1000b-1kva-sine-wave-ups-system-p-1781.html
They claim to provide software for that model for Windows, Unix, Linux and OS X, so it may be an instance where you actually need to use their tools instead of the default OS X facilities.

  • 2 things: iPhoto isn't automatically copying all my imported photos into an iPhoto album folder AND ever since i upgraded my MacBook 120GB to Snow Leopard, iTunes won't recognize my iPhone.

So i have a 120GB MacBook that's about 4 years old (just updated to Snow Leopard--been working in Iraq, i'm a little behind).
Never had a problem with it.
I also have an iPhone 4 which i've had for about a year (up-to-date software as of about a month ago).
Never had a problem with it.
I've had iTunes for years of course (up-to-date).
    Never had a problem.
    1.
Now my iTunes won't recognize my iPhone since the Snow Leopard update.
iPhoto will recognize my phone, but iTunes won't.
Went through all the preferrences and i can't find anything that isn't set properly.
iTunes Helper is used during startup.
    Everything seems fine.
    Any help?
    2.
I use a WD external hard drive to back my Mac up every week or so.
I recently realized that half of my pictures from iPhoto are not copied to the external.
    They haven't been transfering over.
So i snooped through my folders and as it turns out, iPhoto hasn't been copying the pictures i import from my iPhone to iPhoto and saving them as .jpg files in the pictures folder (or iPhoto album or whatever) like i think it's supposed to.
My pictures folder has approx half of all my pictures in it, meaning at some point (probably 2 years ago) iPhoto stopped making the file copies of my imported pictures.
    I do not know why.
No idea how to fix it.
If i were able to fix that (with your help), would all the pictures that haven't been copied automatically copy to my pictures folder once i had the issue resolved or would there be a lot of dragging and dropping?
I've been clumsily and sloppily copying all my pictures to a new folder on my desktop and manually transferring that folder to a thumb drive (which i keep in my pocket) and my external (just so i have them in some form) in case my computer crashes or a mortar shell lands on my room and blows my computer up.
Can anyone please help me with any of this?
I can't just stoll down to the Apple store to ask the Genius Bar (I'm in Baghdad) and i don't have Apple Care so no one will help me on the phone when i call Apple.
    Thanks so much.

    hey mill1640,
Did you ever get your iPhone to register with iTunes? I just upgraded as well to Snow Leopard, and my my isn't recognized at all also.
If you did get this resolved, I would appreciate a little suggestion in the right direction.
    Many thanks,
    Josh

  • ITunes & iPhoto suddenly won't recognize my iPhone 4S

I've made some purchases recently both in and out of iTunes, so I decided I wanted to download them to my phone this morning. I plugged in my iPhone 4S (v7.1.2) and opened iTunes (v11.3), but iTunes wouldn't recognize the phone, even after I rebooted the phone, checked the cable, rebooted and reinstalled iTunes, etc.
My phone is charging, so my MacBook (which is running Mavericks OS 10.9.4) is definitely connecting to it.
But when I tried iPhoto, it won't recognize my phone, either. I rechecked the cable. It seems to be fine. I even tried a new cable. No dice.
What's going on? Anyone else experience this? It's the first time since I first starting using iPhones in 2008 that I've ever had this kind of problem.
    Thanks in advance!

What do you mean OS X won't allow you to uninstall iTunes?
Very rarely is needing to uninstall iTunes on a Mac before reinstalling required as is required with the spagetti code involved with Windoze.

  • I updated my computer to the mavericks and now my iPhoto won't work

I updated my computer to the mavericks and now my iPhoto won't work. And when I go to update iphoto, it says it cant be downloaded onto my computer.

Seems like ios6 isn't any good for any of their devices. I have an iPhone 4 and recently updated to ios6 and have had all the wifi problems and apps getting hung up on load screens. Restore is your best bet and downgrade if you can back to ios 5.1. If restore doesn't help with a fresh install of ios6 then call every Apple support number you can find and be heard like the 1,000s of other people like us with ios6 problems demanding support. There doesn't seem to be any quick fixes for ios6 other than an update from Apple.
