Mavericks 10.9.2 Energy Saver and Downloads

I noticed App Store downloads stop when closing the lid on my rMBP late 2013 running Mavericks 10.9.2 even though I have the following Energy Saver settings while pluged in to AC power:
Checked:
Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off
Wake for Wi-Fi network access
Enable Power Nap while plugged into a power adapter
Unchecked:
Put hard disks to sleep when possible
As a work around, I set "Turn display off after: 1 minute. Then the download continued even when display was off. However, I believe with the Energy Saver setting listed above downloads in App Store should continue even when the lid is closed.
Curious as to whether I'm interpreting these settings incorrectly or if anyone else noticed an issue with this and also and if they were able to fix this issue?

Do you have the setting to automatically download and install updates turned on in the App Store settings in System Preferences? Turn that on. I don't think power nap works when downloading an application for the first time from the App Store I think it will only work for updates.

  • How can i save and download word documents on my ipad without the pages app

Need to know how to save documents on my ipad so i can share the same version of documents between my computer and my ipad on the same network. I do not have the pages app. and Most of the documents are either pdfs of word docs. so need to be able to save them on ipad and retrieve them when i am on the move. Pls help?

You have to have an app on the iPad that is compatible with the particular file type that you want to save, edit or share. You can look at any of the word processing apps - Pages is one, Documents to Go, Quick Office Pro - but you have to have one like that in order to save and edit Word files.
With pdf files - iBooks will work to save them - but that's all. Other apps like GoodReader will let you annotate them.
You have to decide which app will serve your needs best and them download them in order to save, edit and share those file types.

  • How can I save and download voicemails from my IPhone4S to my Macbook?

My mom died a couple months ago and I have so many special voicemails I want to save. When I sync my phone through iTunes I dont see the option to save or download the voicemails anywhere.

You need third-party software to extract them from your phone. From there, save to iTunes:

    Hi,
Using F calls a routine and not BAdI.
If record will directly be created then there is no need to write Z program and calling it using F indicator. However, in case there is some logic which can not be written directly in the Dynamic Action then you need to write that logic in a routine and call it using F indicator.

  • How to fix energy saver issues on iMac with mavericks upgrade

Since I updated to Mavericks from lion my energy saver has issues..The display will not turn off as I set it to do.

Test after each of the following steps that you haven’t already tried:
    Step 1
Take all the steps suggested in this support article. That's the starting point for any further effort to solve the problem. Skipping any of those steps may mean that the problem won't be solved. Note that, as stated in the article, the computer  will not sleep if Internet Sharing is enabled.
    Step 2
    From the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Accessibility ▹ Speakable Items: Off
    Step 3
    Select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Bluetooth ▹ Advanced...
    and uncheck both boxes marked
Open Bluetooth Setup Assistant at startup if...
    Step 4
    Reset the SMC.
    Step 5
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal. Don’t launch any applications at first. If sleep still doesn’t work properly, back up all data and reinstall the OS. After that, if you still have the issue, make a “Genius” appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
If sleep now works as expected, go on to the next step.
    Step 6
Still in safe mode, launch the usual set of applications that are running when you have the problem, including your login items, one at a time, testing after each one. Some applications may not work; skip them. You might be able to identify the cause of the problem this way.
    Step 7
If sleep is still working after you’ve launched all the usual applications, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test again. If sleep still works, you’re done, at least for the moment.
If you still have the sleep issue after booting out of safe mode, post again.

  • Hard drives sleep - not energy saver settings

I have two(2) different Quad 2.7 Pro Mac computers, both with 2 500GB Seagate drives mirror raided internally and Sonnet Fusion D500 SATA enclosures with 5 500GB seagates RAID striped.
They all fall asleep after inactivity, and it take several seconds for the drives to spin back up. The energy saver is set to never. I even tried turing it on, restarting, turing it off, reseting, but it did not help.
I've removed the internal RAID and the external still sleeps, and vice versa.
My only thought is it it the seagate drives. They are refurbished baracuda 7200.9 drives.
    Any ideas?

    hello,
i'm experiencing the same issue. i have 4 internal raptors in RAID0 and 4 external WD drives in a PM enclosure and have found that they too sleep as you mentioned.
i checked the energy saver and the box is unchecked to "put drives to sleep when possible" also...
i installed Leopard the other day when i got the new enclosure and external equipment - clean install - so i don't know if it would do the same in Tiger...
any suggestions, or is this normal for exterior storage - regardless if it is SATA or not?

  • Screen/energy saver activation times

I have a MacBook Pro and recently purchased a cool screensaver for it. However, after about 30 minutes, my dual screens just turn black instead of displaying the screen saver.
I am assuming this is for energy preservation etc but wonder if there is a way to adjust the time before the screens turn black as you can adjust the time before the screen saver is active ?
    Thanks !

    Hi KMoorehouse,
You need to go into System Preferences-Energy Saver, and set you display time for when it goes to sleep after being inactive. You will need to do this under Power Adapter, and Battery settings.

  • Shortening Energy Saver Shut Down Time?

We have a Keynote project where the presentation is on a Mac-Mini and it automatically starts and stops at set times using Energy Saver and Automator as part of a big display in a local Museum.  The presentation starts up great at its designated time but when Energy Saver goes to shut down, it takes literally 10 minutes. I would like to shorten this to something like, one minute.  Any suggestions?
    Here's the setup:
I have the Mac-mini set to automatically start up every day at 9:00 am and shut down at 5:30 pm
The Keynote presentation is set up in Login Items to open at startup and it does.  Once it loads, it automatically begins playing the presentation and loops throughout the day.
At 5:28 pm, I have an Automator script that shuts down Keynote (otherwise, the program will not let the Mac shut down). This Automator script is in iCal and is scheduled for every day.
The Automator script shuts down Keynote and a couple of minutes later, Energy Saver starts the shutdown but with the message this will take 10 minutes (!!) Then literallly 10 minutes later, with a countdown message window on the screen-- and the offer to Cancel--  the Mac-mini shuts itself off.
    Why 10 minutes???
Thanks for your help in advance!

    Hi,
    Thy this :
1- Cut all code in the "Run AppleScript" action
    2- Copy/paste  this script :
    on run
tell application "System Events" to shut down
    end run
-- Otherwise the command "shutdown -h now" requires an admin password and must run in a do shell script

  • My apple streamer keeps on shutting down after 20 mins iv changed the energy saver etc it still does it any help

my apple streamer continues to shut off after 20 mins, Iv vhanged my energy saver and displays, any help

    Just to be clear;
Does it only shut down after twenty minutes when your Apple TV is streaming from the computer, or does it shut down after twenty minutes under any circumstances.
When you say shut down, do you mean the computer shuts down, goes to sleep or crashes.

  • Energy Saver problems

I'm having problems with the Energy Saver preference pane.
I have it set to NOT dim the screen while the power adapter is plugged in (I also have it set to not sleep, when the power adapter is plugged in). However, despite having this setting and confirming that the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration has the correct permissions and the actual lines are set properly ("Display Sleep Uses Dim" is "0"), it still dims the screen after a certain time.
An associated issue is that for Battery mode, the computer will NOT sleep at all. The screen goes to sleep, but the computer does NOT sleep. Touching the trackpad immediately wakes up the screen, and if I don't close the lid, the battery will, of course, run down.
I've tried trashing the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist and then restarting, but this does not seem to make any difference.

If you are having trouble with Energy Saver and the solutions in this thread don't solve your problem, and you aren't the original poster, and have no solutions for the original poster, please start a new topic:

First off, you'll get a wider audience who may be able to solve your problem. Secondly, responses to you won't confuse the original poster with solutions that don't apply to them. And thirdly, you'll know for certain whether or not a response applies to you. There are a variety of reasons for Energy Saver not working:
    1. Peripherals whose drivers/firmware no longer understand what Energy Saver low power mode means that need to be updated.
    2. Damaged cache or plist files relating to Energy Saver.
    3. Network settings which tell the computer to wake from sleep if activated.
    4. Bad directory
    5. NVRAM or PRAM needs resetting.
    6. Bad RAM
    7. Bad power supply
    8. Bad external power source/UPS
For each possible cause there needs to be process of elimination to determine what is the cause.

  • HT1338 While using Word or reading a PDF from a downloaded file, my computer falls "asleep" - backlight fades in and out.  I tried adjusting energy saver but it didn't help.

My backlight dims as if sleeping while I am using my laptop, typing in word, reading a PDF, as I am typing right now.  I tap on the light button to restore but it only temporarily does so.  I have tried "energy saver" but have not been able to wake it up.  Otherwise, it responds.

    Reset the SMC.

  • My battery icon has disappeared from my menu bar at the top of the screen and the energy saver preferences simply says 'Could not load Energy Saver preference pane'

My battery icon randomly disappeared a few months ago from my menu bar and i have been unable to make it come back. After researching solutions online it soon became clear that all of the suggestions needed me to go into the energy saver preferences in the setting however the icon for the energy saver preferences is no longer there and whenever i click in the blank space where it used to be, it simply says 'Could not load Energy Saver preference pane'. As a result of this i never know how much battery i have left and so i just have to wait for the machine to die each time
The mac in question is a 13 inch 2012 macbook air that is running on OS Mavericks at the moment.
Any ideas on how to get the icon back?
    - I recently discovered by accident that before i actually log into my account on my mac, when i am still on the page that contains the options of guest user etc. at that point the battery icon is displayed in the top right hand corner? Why is it that the icon exists there but not once i have logged it? Thankyou for any advice.

  • Screen saver + Energy Saver (Computer Sleep + Display Sleep) won't work since Mavericks

    Howdy,
    Sorry to bother you.
My computer: iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
It took me some time to upgrade to Mavericks, but I did it eventually.
After having some problems with Spotlight (which was infinite looping indexing... and I just had to turn if off from Terminal), I realized I was encountering another big problem to me since the installation of Mavericks.
    In System Preferences:
    - 'Desktop and Screen Saver > Screen Saver' : it is set to 1 minute;
    - 'Energy Saver > Computer Sleep' : it is set to 10 minutes;
    - 'Energy Saver > Display Sleep' : it is set to 5 minutes;
    - 'Energy Saver > Put hard disks to sleep when possible' : it is checked.
    - 'Energy Saver > Wake for network access' : it was checked. I unchecked it. Nothing changes.
    - 'Energy Saver > Start up automatically after a power failure' : it is unchecked.
    - 'Energy Saver > Allow power button to put computer to sleep' : this option is absent from my System Preferences > Energy Saver, but I would like it.
So, before Mavericks, everything was working great.
Now, after 1 minute, or after 5 minutes, or after 10 minutes: it's all the same. Nothing is sleepy. Nothing is energy saving.
I did not change anything in my computer since I've updated to Mavericks. However, I changed Wi-Fi. Since it was the only new change, I've "played" with 'Energy Saver > Wake for network access'. When I opened my System Preferences, it was checked. I unchecked it. It did not change anything. I'm not sure what it's used for.
I would appreciate any advice to make it work as it used to.
Thanks for your time reading and typing your answer,
    Have a good day,
    Regards,

    - 'Energy Saver > Allow power button to put computer to sleep' : this option is absent from my System Preferences > Energy Saver, but I would like it.
    Built into the Software now.
    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
You might try Spotlight again. That is how the App Store knows what is installed.
