Mavericks 10.9.2 problems
Numerous problems after installing the upgrade of Mavericks 10.9.2 on a 2009 Macbook Pro - Model Identifier: MacBookPro 5,3.
I have been running Mavericks on an External Hard drive and also on a 64GB SD card since it came out in 2013 without any problems. After the update to 10.9.2 it will not run correctly. The main issues are:
1. The DOCK is not responding and is missing from the bottom of the screen even after clicking down there many times.
2. The background is a grey screen
3. Notifications TAB is missing from the right hand side and not responding
4. Scrolling the with mouse does not work
5. Trackpad is not working
6. Wifi is working but the wifi bars appear as they are searching for a network.
7. Disk Utilities is not responsive
I have done numerous PRAM resets, NVRAM resets, opened Disk utilities to check the drive and the permissions were repaired but still doesnt run correctly.
The system will only work "normally" in SAFE mode.
Any Suggestions?
I've got the same problem. No information form apple or Ik Multimedia

I have just updated to Yosemite, but now I can't get the custom short-keys to work.
In Mavericks I had no problem whatsoever, but now even after googeling and restart no solution.
Does anyone have the problem? All the other shortcuts work!Hi Thomas,
I can confirm the problem you are hitting. The XML test trace does not get recognized at all, and it defaults to Eclipse's basic Open File behaviour. I am not sure if it's because the format definition is missing, or if it's because something prevents the trace type from being recognized. I will open a bug about it.
Thanks for identifying this issue!
In the meantime, if you'd like to experiment with XML analyses, you can also take a look at the example at https://github.com/tracecompass/xml-analysis-example .
Cheers,

I have Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549) and there is free update for Maverick will I have problems since there were no free updates prior to this? I just do not want to loose any data. Thank you for your help.
you should always make a backup of data regularly, especially when upgrading to a higher version of OS X. Just because it's free has no bearing on it giving anyone any problems. The only concern you may have is not all older programs will work with 10.9 that do with 10.6. Check here to see if you have any programs that would not run in 10.9: https://tidbits.com/article/12156

Mavericks 10.9.1-Problem with finder not showing peripheral hardware
After upgrading to Mavericks (10.9.1) my Finder doesn't show new hardware in Devices. For example, Finder not showing iPod when i plug into the keyboard's usb. i have other examples of the same problem, such as trying to find a hard drive detached from an old computer. anyone know if i can configure Finder to show all peripheral (hardware) devices? maybe i need to plug the peripherals into back of the iMac rather thatn into my keyboard usb (which i have not tried.) Thanks in advance.
CharlieI had a similar issue as you did -- for a few weeks now I've been suffering through agonizingly slow Contacts performance.
The way I resolved it was:
1) Quit Contacts
2) Go to system preferences and go into iCloud, then uncheck contacts -- choosing to delete from mac.
3) Go into system preferences and to Internet Accounts and again uncheck contacts under any of the accounts it's enabled on (gmail, yahoo, etc).
4) Go to your user's library folder (easiest way is to open a finder window, hold down the option key on the keyboard and from the Go menu, select Library).
5) Delete anything referring to Address book or com.apple.address book.... -- check these folders in particular:
- Address Book
- Application Support
- Caches
- Preferences
6) Restart your computer
7) Go back into System preferences and enable contacts from wherever you want (iCloud, etc.)
8) If it's not quite enabling (appears to enable, but checkbox doesn't show), then do one more restart of the computer.
9) Now open Contacts and allow it to sync -
Since upgrading to maverick I have had problems syncing contacts and calendar between devices
After recent apple support ref:532791559 my macpro will exchange these items between icloud and macpro but now I find I cannot exchange data between my iphone (IOS7) and ipad (IOS7)
In above apple support created new accounts etc to arrange connection but now I have lost the other two items. All three were working perfectly with icloud before updating. Sorry Apple but this is a blunder!!!Hi,
Thank you for taking an interest in my problem.
What actually transpired was my Macpro (contacts) would not update after I put changes in to contacts in either iphone or ipad. Apple checked and discovered that changes made in either macPro (contacts) and contacts(cloud.com) did not talk to each other so concentrated on this.
The rep had me signout of my macpro user account, and create a temp new user to which I signed into my icloud account as normal. Then, changes in either macpro or cloud.com now worked. He then did some changes at his end and after exiting the temp user and resigning in as origal macpro user this now made changes to each other. OK. We then deleted the temp user and this worked! but since then I have discovered that iphone and ipad now do not change icloud.com contacts or calendar so would not of course change contacts on macpro!
Other services on icloud (photo stream, mail, docs and data, find my ----, etc) all function with my iphone (so have to presume my ipad also, but this is not with me at this time) so the problem is confined to just contacts and calendar.
In summary, I do have only one icloud address but which appears to have two sets of data as the devices will communicate with something but not altogether!!
I am thoroughly confused, especially as it was all fine until I upgraded from M\Lion to Mavericks on my shiny new macpro a few weeks ago. I had moved from Windows to Apple to avoid just such problems.
Not enamoured with Apple at the moment, but thank you for your assistance - hope this is a better explanation.
Kind Regards -
Mavericks Upgrade - App Store problems
Hello,
Since upgrading to Mavericks, I am having a strange issue regarding Mac Appstore. It functions bizzarely. Even after clicking "update all" or "update" for iLife apps, the app store keeps on asking about the apple ID & password again and again, and even after entering the details, the application doesn't download !!!
Also, I kept on getting a JAVA update windown everytime I switched on the macbook pro. But since installing the update - that issue hasn't happened.
Should I have done a clean install of Mavericks instead, which could have caused the problem? Should I use Onyx to clean the device?
Any thoughts?
Thanks for helping,
Regards,Yosemite is a free upgrade. If you have currently a solid Mavericks system and do not need any of the features of Yosemite, then you do not need to upgrade. Just be aware that should you ever need to reinstall Mavericks you no longer will be able to re-download it. Thus, you would have to install Yosemite at that time. Note that you can download the Yosemite installer and save it somewhere. Simply Quit the installer application after the download rather than clicking on the Install button.
You may wish to assure you have a bootable clone of your Mavericks system should you not want to lose it. To do so requires an external or internal drive that can be completely erased and is equal to or larger than your current startup volume.
Clone Yosemite, Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
button.
2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
to the Destination entry field.
5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
the Source entry field.
6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the spare drive. Source means the internal startup volume. -
When i updated OS X Mavericks i got restart problems, help me to fixed it

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU
If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.
Here's just a sample of a kernel panic log that points to the faulty NVIDIA card:

Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. The unfortunate thing is that many people have passed the “three years from date of purchase” now and Apple is not honoring the free logic board replacement for many users. Some dealers seem to be making some exceptions for those past the three year mark, but don’t count on it…
Good luck,

Illustrator CS6 won't install on Maverick because of network problem?
Has anyone learned a sure fire way to install Illustrator CS6 onto Maverick without the error message: Can't download the software because of a network problem? I've been down for several days and and desperately need to get some work done. Any help at all will be appreciated.

Mavericks and Preview app problem
Hi!
Yesterday I updated my iMac 27" (Intel i5, 4Gb RAM) and MacBook Air (2010) to Mavericks and noticed significant slowdown working with Preview app and RAW photos.
Preview loads photos very slowly partly covering photos with black color. This problem is on both my Macs.
I even reinstalled Mavericks completely on my Mac. Also I tried to remove Preview preferences. This didn't work. I installed Camera Raw update - no use.
In the latest 10.8 everything worked smoothly and fast. In Mavericks... it is not. I'm very upset...
Does anyone have such problems?
If there is no solution at the moment how to downgrade back to 10.8?
By the way, I noticed that Mavericks uses all of my RAM all the time. Is it normal?Interestingly, when you go to Feedback, when you get to OS X applications, Preview isn't even listed!! Maybe it's because the changes under Mavericks have turned a previously easy application to use into a disaster area. Perhaps they don't want to hear the feedback?
1. No more crop button for the edit toolbar.
2. No more save as, or save all options under File drop down menu.
3. Some genius changed save as to export... only took me a week to figure that out!
4. When opening 7-10 jpg's to edit, various problems occur:
a. cropping and then adjusting picture size often results in adjusting size change not being saved.
b. after this happens on one picture, trying to adjust size on another picture doesn't work.
c. repeated attempts causes Preview to freeze up and you have to quit the application.
d. when reopening the same pics after reopening preview they appear in 2 or 3 windows instead of the original 1 window.
e. the same problems may repeat themselves trying to edit all 10 pictures.
What used to take 4-5 minutes to do before Mavericks, now can take 10 minutes or more. Did anyone test Preview 7.0 before it was released??? -
Upgrade to Mavericks from Snow Leopard Problems
I am upgrading my MacBook Pro, 13" late 2011, currently running Snow Leopard OS X v10.6.8. I have tried to download Mavericks multiple times with no success. What should I do to upgrade properly?
I have tried cancelling the download and rebooting my computer with no luck. I also tried hooking my computer up to an ethernet cable in case it was the speed of the internet, with no luck. The icon on my dashboard shows a bar with about half of the progress bar filled then goes no further. I left my computer plugged in OVER NIGHT and the prgoess bar did not move at all, so clearly it isn't downloading. In the Apps Store, Mavericks does not show up in purchases, but yet when I look at Mavericks in the Apps Store it says that Mavericks is downloading.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I just want the new running system with no problems. I saw something about rebooting my computer in safe-mode, but that makes me nervous because I just had a problem with my hard drive, and had to have my hard drive cable replaced about a month ago..The following may or may not help (it won't do any harm), but I recall similar problems back with Lion when this worked in some cases.
If you have any incomplete downloads of Mavericks lurking about, move them to the trash.
Open Terminal, paste this line in
defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
and hit 'return'. Restart the App Store. You'll now see a new menu item in the menu bar called 'Debug'. Click it and choose 'Reset Application' (no, you will not lose any purchases or anything else, this is just a local reset on your machine. You might as well do 'Clear cookies' for good measure, though the reset should do that as well).
Restart the mac for good measure, and try to download again.
(nb: if your upgrade to 10.9 is successful, the 'debug' menu will disappear on its own. If it's not, and you want to make it go away, just use the same command as above but change 'true' to 'false'.) -
Mavericks Drobo Time Machine problem
On a new iMac with Mavericks, a new (December) Drobo 5D, I get "Time Machine couldn't . . " "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder." Disk Utility says everything is OK. Drobo diagnostics (submitted to Drobo Support) apparently show no problems. "Not seeing any issues in the diagnostic file you submitted. No disconnections and no drive issues. Looks clean."
If I reboot, Time Machine works fine. Time Machine backup works fine. Everything seems fine.
Today is the fourth time in three weeks the problem has appeared.
Where does the responsibility for this lie? With Drobo or Apple? Neither side shows a problem. I am feeling frustrated.Thank you, Norm G.
This "An error occurred while creating the backup folder" is not addressed by that support article. The problem has occurred with both Thunderbolt and USB-3 cables. Restarting currently seems to be the solution.
The Drobo replaces a LaCie 4TB drive that is full; this problem never occurred with that drive. The Drobo was formatted and set-up following Drobo instructions. Drobo has no suggestions since the diagnostics don't show a problem on their end.
So far, I can live with the restarting - since everything else functions normally. -
i have a problem when i try to download mavericks from the app store.
it asks me to sign in to [email protected] a gmail address that i have never heard of.
this seem too strange to me!
i have tried to contact apple support but after a total of half an hour waiting they are just too busy
anyone know a way i can download mavericks not from the app store? You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store notice. For example, if the App Store says you need to update "Twitter," the hacked app may be "Angry Birds" or something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you have to carry out a systematic search.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
In the Finder, press the key combination command-F to open a search window, or select
File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu initially showing Kind. From that menu, select Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select Raw Query and click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of popup menu. Click in that box and paste (command-V).
The search window will show all the App Store products you've installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the items listed in the search window is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Test. -
Mavericks and Macintosh HD problem
Upgrading to Mavericks was pretty straightforward and so far I encountered one problem. When I click on "Macintosh HD" for the first time since boot up, the content window is blank for maybe around 15 seconds then all of a sudden the contents/folders appear. If I close the window and click on "Macintosh HD" again everything is fine, it only happens with the first attempt after a start up.
I tried verifying and repairing disk permissions but that didn't work.
Any suggestions? How much free space on the disk?
Control click the MacintoshHD icon on your desktop or open the Finder, control click startup disk icon then click Get Info.
You'll see Available and Capacity. Make sure there's at least 15% available disk space. -

OS X Mavericks v10.9.4 problems or not?
after updating to OS X Mavericks v10.9.4 my app store takes longer to load up and some websites also take longer to load up. Is it my internet that is the problem or this new update plz help i just got this macbook and quite new to it
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.4 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo).
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.4 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo).
