Mavericks + Adobe CS5 = Grumpy cat

Hi!
I just got a new MacBook Pro Retina with Mavericks (OS 10.9.1) and installed my purchased version of Adobe CS5. Now, Photoshop doesn't work properly. The program freezes after just 5 minutes of usage and all menus goes blank.
I have purchased two licenses for CS5 so I installed the other one on my older iMac which runs with OS Snow Leopard, and everything is working just fine there.
Obviously, there's something that Mavericks requires.
Now, I need to be able to work on my new laptop ASAP so please tell me, what do I need to do in order to get Photoshop working?
Please tell me what I need to download, install, delete, blow up, slaughter, pray to, purchase or drink in order to make this work.
I'm all ears!

It seems that all of the keyboard combinations don't work in CS.
I love Mavericks on my laptop, but on it and my iMac in CS, (any CS app) all of the basic key combinations don't work.

  • Any problems with Adobe CS5.5 and the Maverick system?

    Has anyone had any problems with Adobe CS5.5 and the new Maverick OS? I don't want to install if there are issues. Thanks!

    First thing I would suggest is to upgrade your server OS to a newer version if possible. Secondly try removing the apps out of the allowable apps list and instead change it so that you allow the apps that are within the specific application folder, ex: Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS5
    I had similar problems with CS5 apps and by adding the apps by allowable folder instead it corrected my problem. Granted, if you have savvy users, there is the potential to open a can of worms here but it was the only way I could get it to work for "standard" non-admin user types.

  • Will adobe cs5.5 indesign run on mavericks?

    I'm trying to find whether anyone has found upgrading to Mavericks creates problems for running Adobe CS5.5 and CS5.1 applications.

    Hi
    Is anyone having problems printing to Inkjet printers from any Adobe product while running Mavericks. I can print from other software including iTunes but none of the Adobe products will. When I try to print a page will print but if I select the 'printer' tab in the print dialogue screen to fine tune the output to the printer (a Canon PIXMA iP3500) it crashes and gives this error screen:

  • I have a Macbook Pro Early 2011 from the USA.  After installing Mavericks, Adobe CS6 crashes whenever it is plugged into a 27inch cinema display I purchased from the apple store in China (We moved to China). It works when not plugged into 27inch display.

    I have a Macbook Pro Early 2011 from the USA. It is now running Mavericks.  I connect it to a 27" Cinema Display that I bought in China after we moved to China.  Before I installed Mavericks, I could run all of the Adobe CS6 and Adobe CS5.5 applications on my Macbook Pro while connected to the cinema display. Now that I have Mavericks installed, whenever I am connected to my 27" CInema display my Adobe applications crash upon opening.  I know this is a rare scenario, but does anyone have any ideas how to fix this problem? Is there a new driver that needs installed?  I'd appreciate any help.

    I am also having a similar issue. I used Adobe Lightroom and my whole display goes black. Even my laptop screen and the lights on the keyboard go black. I can still hear the fan running, so I assume it is just the display. This is my first Mac and I have had nothing but issues. I think I am going back to Windows after this.

  • Is Adobe CS5.5 working fine with Yosemite ?

    Hi, I've read some and other things in different forums so I don't know what to think. I'd like to know if anyone here updated from Mavericks to Yosemite and is using Adobe CS5.5 (Photoshop - I know about the Java thing - Illustrator, Indesign, Acrobat, Dreamweaver…). How does it go ? Thanks a lot.

    ***SOLVED***
    In case you don't want to install JRE6 at all and simply use JRE8 without symlinking it to the JRE6 either you can do the following:
    Copy the Info.plist located at the path named below to e.g. ~/Desktop/:
         /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk.1.8.<…>/Contents/
    and then replace
         <key>JVMCapabilities</key>
         <array>
         <string>CommandLine</string>
         </array>
    with the following:
         <key>JVMCapabilities</key>
         <array>
         <string>JNI</string>
         <string>BundledApp</string>
         <string>WebStart</string>
         <string>Applets</string>
         <string>CommandLine</string>
         </array>
    Afterwards copy the file back to its original location (you need administrator rights). For this change to take effect you need to restart your computer. The dialog for Java 6 should shouldn't appear anymore and Photoshop should launch just fine using JRE8.
    On a related note it appears that this plist change sticks even after updates done through the Java Preference Panel in the System Preferences.

  • Adobe CS5.5

    If anybody any experience with adobe cs5.5 extended under Yosemite.  It does not start under Yosemite.  It requires to install on old java 6.  Apple mentions in his specs that this version java works up to mavericks.
    Any recommendation?

    Install Java for OS X 2014-001. Java for OS X 2014-001 includes installation improvements, and supersedes all previous versions of Java for OS X. This package installs the same version of Java 6 included in Java for OS X 2013-005. Please quit any Java applications before installing this update. • Yosemite and adobe cs5 suite

    Has anyone tested Yosemite with the adobe cs5 suite
    Photoshop CS5 Extended
    Illustrator CS5
    etc....?
    I do not plan to purchase any further upgrades to Adobe
    I have been using their products in my business since 1994 and I have spent a fortune keeping them updated.
    CS5 is as far as I will go
    I do like to keep my Apple OSX updated
    Macbook Pro 10.9.5

    Hello Jonnny.
    I use the same software as you, and have the same thoughts and issues, and have been searching the internet and Adobe forums for similar answers and questions. Many people are having issues and most are saying if you are running older versions of CS, (I don't think CS5 is that old!) then a Java update is needed and easily downloaded from the Apple website. Personally I will wait another 2 weeks or so before deciding, but I may just keep my Mavericks, the last time I upgraded it caused me countless hours of downloading and reinstalling software again, one of Apples pieces of software I enjoyed using was iDVD which is no longer supported and just about got it too work again on Mavericks, but not sure if it will work on Yosemite.

  • Preview opens all of my graphics how can I return the preference to Adobe CS5 as it was before 9.2

    Since installing 10.9.2 I cannot initially open any graphics with Adobe CS5; "Preview" has assumed that role and it is annoying to say the least because I can't find a way to change  a preference.
    2012 27" iMac on Mavericks
    Can anyone help me ?
    Thanks

    Highlight a file you wish to open with CS5 and press CMD i, this will open the get info window for the file. There should be an option to make CS 5 or any other application you have installed the default for all that file type.
