Mavericks - An error occurred while installing OS X
Hi,
I recently decided to upgrade an iMac from 10.8 Mountain Lion to 10.9 Mavericks. Using an external hard drive with the 5gb download, I began the installation (without making any backups or using Time Machine, very stupid). Then, during installation, I accidentally disconnected the external hard drive from the computer, causing the installation to hang for many hours with the message "An error occurred while installing OS X".
I had no choice but to restart the computer, but the installation hung with the same error. Then I pressed Command-R during boot and was given the option of checking disks, I selected Repair and Verify but no problems were found.
Now when I start the computer, a small loading progress bar displays at the bottom of the screen,
I would like to know please if there is any way of going back to the previous OS (10.8) or continuing the installation of 10.9.
I have read some recent posts regarding the error "An error occurred while installing OS X", but they recommend restarting the computer which I have tried with no luck.
Many thanks,
Paul
In the end, I tried reinstalling OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion by pressing Cmd-R, but I found out my hard disk was corrupt and could not be repaired, so I couldn't do the installation there.
So, I ended up having to replace the hard disk with another one, and potentially losing everything that was on the hard disk ( I will try to recover the data on it though). Replacing the hard disk is not too easy, you need a pair of suction cups to remove the screen and after I put the screen back together there is a strange dark patch on one corner of the screen that doesn't go away (although it's very slight).
So there are two morals for me to take from this story is; Make Backups Before Upgrading an OS and Don't Accidentally Unplug a External Hard Disk while it is Installing a New OS
Thanks everyone for your help with this issue.

"An error occurred while installing OS X" message
I've got this message during the installation of OS X Maverick : "An error occurred while installing OS X"
It seems blocked since a half hour right now, I can't proceed in any way because there are no "buttons", just turning off the power.
What should I do in this case?
Is it dangerous for my data and the OS shutting it down? This is why you have a backup before you do any new OS installation.
If there are no other options besides powering down, then you've got to power down: hold down the power button until it shuts off. This probably won't screw up your data or the OS, but it might; see item #1.
See if your computer can start up, with the previous OS in place.
I had the "an error occurred..." message too, while I tried to install. I did a safe boot Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? and ran the installer again, and it worked. -
Hi
Im using fb 4.7 air sdk 15.0.0.349 with Macosx 10.9.4, xcode 6.1 (ios simulator 8.1) and i keep getting the following response when debugging with ios simulator:
Error occurred while installing the application:
Session did end with error (null)
Can you help? Is this a bug being fixed yet?
Thanks.
zed0784Sorry i was refering to my other post. I am on FB 4.7, AIR 15 SDK 15.0.0.356, Xcode Version 6.1 (6A1052d) with the same problem on Mavericks on my MacPro and Yosemite on my MacBook Pro. My App (which uses Feathers and Starling) didnt work at all and even got rejected for Testflight testing because is was crashing immediately on iOS 8.1. I found out that this was related to the new compiler so "-useLegacyAOT yes " solved that problem.
But the problem that i cannot test in iOS simulator at all still persists. (Session did end with error (null)) -
I am getting an error - An error occurred while installing the extension “Lastpass”. Not just Lastpass, ANY extension I try to install. I just updated to Mavericks 10.9.1. Safari version 7.0.1. This is super frustrating. I was going to try to delete the extentions.plist and I cannot find that. I reset Safari. I tried just sropping files into the extentions folder, that doesn't work. Can someone please help?
Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked
Allow user to administer this computer
Then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
{ sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select
▹ Restart
from the menu bar. -
Hi I'm suffering with this issue Bug#3506758 - MySQL 5.6 Unable to Execute Queries
and therefore am trying to update cf 10 to version 13 (current version is 8) however I get 'Error occurred while installing the update: Failed Signature verification'
I'm running Mavericks on Mac.
Can anyone point me to a step by step way to resovle this please (I'm new to Macs and am a cf coder but alas dont have any experience in server admin).
Thanks very much indeed.
NickI was going to suggest that you needed to install the mandatory updater, but the Adobe help page for it says you shouldn't need to if you already have update 8 installed. Might be worth verifying though.

I want to install both SQL Server and Team Foundation Server on the same machine. Operating system of my server machine is Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1. I first install Microsoft SQL Sever 2012 Enterprise edition without any error. After
that i tried to install Microsoft Team Foundation Server 2012. Team Foundation Server configuration got complete. Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 installed successfully but while configuring SharePoint extension i am getting the following error.
"TF255424: An error occurred while installing SharePoint Products. For more information, open Event Viewer and review the application log. You might need to manually install Windows SharePoint Foundation 2010."
Please help.

Error occurred while installing the application: Invalid device specified
Error occurred while installing the application: Invalid <device> specified i am getting this error on windows. How to solve that.
Hi there.
I know this is an old post, but I fell here having this same problem for some weeks now, and i just figured my issue. Hope it help others:
My iPhone is connecting automatically with my itunes on computer. Not really sure what type of connection or wireless sync, but the fact is that it IS connecting.
For some weird reason it gets Flash Builder crazy and it cannot find the right device anymore. Even when I get my iPhone connected by cable, it says that it found the device, but doesn`t publish to it. The Flash Builder says that it was published, but nothing gets installed, and the debugger cannot connect.
MY SOLUTION (for now): Turn off the phone wi-fi, so it gets out of my home network. works like a charm and I finally can test on my device again.
Really hope this helps. -

ITunes 10.1.2 error message "Errors occurred while installing the updates"
Getting a blank page on the iTunes store, I was told that updating to 10.1.2 should fix that. Currently running iTunes 9.1.1.12. While downloading the updates, I get the following message:
"Errors occurred while installing the updates. If the problem persists, choose Tools>Download Only and try installing it manually."
I have tried installing the update both ways (through the update utility and manually) several times and I keep getting this error. It's very frustrating. Any suggestions?
Thanks

"An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR"
I am running Vista Home Premium SP1, and I keep getting the
following error while trying to reinstall Air. After the install, I
get a dialog box telling me Air installed successfully. When I
click OK, I get a second box telling me: "An error occurred while

This error has repeated itself time after time. Air had
installed fine a while back, but programs using it began having
problems with uprgrades, so I uninstalled them and uninstalled Air,
then tried to reinstall Air.
Here's the .airinstall.log file from the last install

Can't Install. An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR
I can't install Adobe AIR. I'm getting the infamous error:
"An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR. Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator."
I'm the administrator of the computer.
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit.
I've tried the right-click-run-as-administrator solution and I'm getting the same error.
I've read Troubleshoot AIR installation | Windows and none of the solutions worked.
I'm installing the latest AIR version (I've tried older versions too)
I've tried Microsoft Install and Uninstall Fix It and AIR doesn't appear on the list of programs.
Here is my install log:
