Mavericks and Adobe Reader

I have a Macbook Air running Mavericks 10.9.5 and AR version 11.0.10.   When I open a pdf and try to save it anywhere on my Macbook, AR will freeze and I get the color wheel, just spinning around and around.  I can't click anywhere except to force quit AR.   AR becomes unresponsive.
How do I fix this problem?

So usually before you download the update you are given and user agreement to sign but for whatever reason it didn't do it this time. 2 hours of toiling and and pissed off testing every which way and i think i got it......Go to your finder  Go to applications   Right click on the acrobat reader  then click on "show package contents"  now wait patiently which what seemed like 10 minutes ( more like 2 or 3min) then a pop up will show asking for you to sign the user agreement. sign and then possibly you will get another box that says something along the lines of acrobat reader not being your default and if you would like to change it....  click yes and it should finally work.

  • Mavericks: Firefox and Adobe reader as standard applications?

Mavericks: I want Firefox as my standard browser and Adobe reader to open PDFs. But every time I start my iMac, Safari and Preview are set as standards again. Example: when I click a link in Mail, Safari opens instead of Firefox. So every day I have to change these settings again. What to do?

If you're having trouble making changes to files that are inside your home folder (represented by a house icon in the sidebar of a Finder window), or if you can't get changes to the settings of an application to stick, then please see below.
    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked
Allow user to administer this computer
Then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • OSX Maverick and Adobe CS6 compatibilty

OSX Maverick and Adobe CS6 compatibilty
    Any issues to note?

When you upgrade to 10.9 it installs the Java 7 JRE but there is no JRE6, so you HAVE TO download it from Apple before ANY CS5 or CS6 app will open. Other than that I haven't seen ANY issues with CS5.5 or CS6 in Audition, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, InDesign, Premiere, Photoshop, PSE9 or Lightroom 5.

  • Maverick and Adobe CC upgrade, now no main screen?

I have updated my MAC to Maverick and Adobe CC and all was fine till the main screen disapeared but tool bar remains. I unistalled, re-installed...rebooted, and spent three hours on the phone with New Delhi trying to reset Java, permissions etc...still nothing. Does anyone have any idea here how to get the screen back?

Did you change your monitor resolution or disconnect a second monitor?
If so, your main window may be off your screen.
Just trash your Photoshop preferences by holding down Command+Option+Shift on the Mac or Control+Alt+Shift on Windows as you launch Photoshop, then click on YES when asked if you want to delete or reset your preferences.

  • With OSX10.7.5 and Adobe Reader 11.0.02 when I try to open a PDF downloaded from the web I get 'There was an error opening this document. This file is damaged and could not be repaired. Preview will not open either. Older PDFs OK.

I am running OS X 10.7.5 and Adobe Reader 11.0.02. In the last few days I have been unable to open PDF's downloaded from the web. Reader gives the error message 'There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired'. Removing Reader and trying to use Preview to open these files give the error 'Preview cannot open this file. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognise' (or something like that). Downloading the same files with Reader removed from my Mac Preview opens the files OK.
I was recently prompted to update Adobe software but did not note exactly what the update was nor when it was done.
Reader and Preview will both open PDFs I downloaded a week ago. Reader will also open files downloaded on another Mac running OS X 10.0.0 and copied to my Mac. Any ideas?

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Windows vista, internet explorer 8 and adobe reader 9

I have windows vista, internet explorer 8 and adobe reader 9.  When i open pdf files from a website i cannot save the document.  I don't get an error message, it just does not open.

Have you tried capturing these application in separate packages?  I have been successful in capturing IE8 in one package and Adobe Reader XI in another package and then using the OptionalAppLinks option in the IE8 package to point to the Adobe Reader dat file.  Just make sure that both packages work outside of the applinking.  Also, you can try to install Adobe to the native machine and see if the embedded pdfs work in the virtual IE package.
These are just the troubleshooting steps that I would take to narrow down what is causing the issue you are seeing.

  • Not able to open pdf and adobe reader on windows xp sp3.

    Hello,
I am not able to open pdf and adobe reader on my windows xp sp3 computer. I have reinstalled adobe reader 11.0.3 twice, but, no luck. I would appreciate if you could help me in resolving this issue. Thanks in advance.

You can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • Safari, itunes, and Adobe Reader wont start up on iBook G4

I have an iBook G4 that I purchased from a friend a few months ago that seemed to be working fine up until two days ago. Now for almost no reason at all, Safari, itunes and Adobe reader will not open anymore. Can someone please help me?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Did your friend give you the system discs for the machine? If not, get them. Then see if you can boot from the Tiger disc and repair your boot drive.
Also, you can go to Disk Utility and try repairing permissions. If you have downloaded software and not done this, there will likely be many permissions to repair. Downloading can change permissions, and it is good practice to repair permissions after downloading software.
While in Disk Utility, check the SMART status of the drive. If it says anything other than "verified", the drive is on the way out. It may also be on the way out even if DU says that SMART is verified.
If you can get the discs, also see if you can find the Apple Hardware Test and boot to it and run the extended version of it.
Does the iBook still have its original hard drive? If so, the drive could be beginning to fail. If that's the case, you will need to replace it.
This is just a place to start. Report back with how it goes.
    Good luck!

  • Installation of Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader on the same machine

What is the recommendation from Adobe on having both Adobe Acrobat Pro/Std installed and Adobe Reader installed on the same machine?
Is there an 'official' or 'recommended' statement for this?

I think it is not recommended or supported for versions earlier than X.

  • Adobe Acrobat Professional and Adobe Reader

I have Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0 (AP) and Adobe Reader 9
(AR) installed on a WinXP system. Both AP and AR work, but if one
is open I cannot start the other: If AP is open and I try to open
a pdf file in AR (right click -> open with... -> Acrobat Reader
    9) the file opens in AP. If AR is open and I try to open a pdf
file in AP the opposite happens.
I am sure there must be a setting somewhere that turns this
behavior off but I cannot find it.
    Any help is appreciated.

You are simply finding another reason why Adobe does not recommend this combination. You may be able to try the /n command line directive to see if it allows multiple runs between the two.

  • Windows Search 4.0 and Adobe Reader 9.2

I've a small search utility that uses Windows Search 4.0 as the search engine. My utility queries Windows Search and retrieves the results. I've a few PDF files as well to search. I'm able to search a few of these PDFs using the my utility and some of the PDFs are never returned in the search results, although, I copy a phrase in that PDF and search. Search fails when I try from Windows Search interface as well.
As I understand, the IFilter is bundled with the Adobe Reader package from AR 8.0. So, I've not installed it separately. The strange thing some PDFs are searchable and some or not. Am not sure as what could be the issue here . Anyone else have faced this issue? Am not sure what to look for to resolve this issue?

I have just encountered the same problem. I am using the HTC Titan phone by Sprint with WM6 and Adobe Reader LE 2.0. I am only interested in internal document links (jumps to other pages). I tried two PDFs which work fine on the PC under Reader 7.0 but don't work on the HTC. I even tried setting the conversion option on ActiveSync to OFF.
At this time, even Foxit Reader doesn't support internal links. I wonder if LE worked fine under WM5?
Please help me resolve this one. Thank you,
    Bob

  • Insufficient data sent error in Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Reader X

I have an issue that is happening with several users that I support.  It is only happening in a specific program that they use.  When they open PDFs, they get the message insufficient data sent and then a blank document opens.  I noticed that this seemed to be an issue a couple years ago, but it was apparently solved with recent releases of Adobe reader. I have installed and set up Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Reader X, but the results are the same and very intermittent.  It can happen when trying to open a document and then not happen 10 seconds later on the same doc.  The company that provides the online program blames Adobe.  Where do I proceeed from here?

    Hello,
unfortunately it's a reserved document. I'll try to reproduce the issue with a different design and, if possible, I'll post a link to it.
    Thank you!

  • Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Reader X Pro (Editable PDF Combobox Search is not working properly.)

I have created Editable PDF using itext(5.3.0) in java. I have used Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Reader X Pro.  But in editable PDF combobox search is  not working properly.
    It's only search first character.

My (admittedly old and slow) system did this too the first time I opened Reader 11, but it "unfroze" after about fifteen seconds, (an eternity in computing time, I know, but it did eventually open all the way) What you're seeing on the right is the "Tools" panel initializing. That's exactly where mine would freeze up on starting. Once it did finally open fully, I clicked the "Tools" link at the top to close the panel, and I opened and viewed a document that way, then closed reader. Now when I open Reader, the Tools panel doesn't initialize and it opens immediately.
Reboot and before you open anything else, open Reader. When you open it, DO NOT try to do anything with it until it fully opens, don't click anything, don't try to switch to another app. Give it time to open fully, and then click the Tools link to close it. Then, open and view a document, and close it. Close Reader and reopen it. the Tools panel should remain closed and Reader should open fully immediately.
