Mavericks and Aperture 3.5

Hi, I have a 2007 24" iMac 2.8ghz machine with 4Gig of RAM. I have uploaded Mavericks and now Aperture 3.5 to replace the 2.4 version I was using on Snow Leopard. Its slow, very slow. Any tips to speed it up, I do Event Photography, often have 1000 pics to go through after a concert such as one I am doing next week, I cannot think of the time it will take me as it is now.
Also a favoutite shortcut on Aperture was "P" to get the image ready for working on, does not seem to work the same way anymore.
Thanks

Frank, thanks for your reply - even though it was not really what I want to hear (but what I suspected).
I spoke to a memory man today from a well known company, on the record my iMac will only take 4 gig, off the record it will take 6 he reckons as do you, do you know what I should be ordering ?
Regarding file location, I am pretty bad, take loads of photo's and don't delete many. The set up is as follows
500gig HDD in the iMac
350gig external
1TB external
2TB external - used to be the Time Machine
4TB external - new Time Machine
I am hoping that the 2TB disk will last me about 4 years before it is filled up.
I have now about 230gigs of HDD space on board which according to what you say is quicker than the external drives accesss wise. I could therefore load new pictures onto the interrnal HDD, do what I need to do to them there. Once done can I move the location of the folder - will Aperture (or the iMac) track the move ? Once I have gone through the images I then save jpegs in various forms either for sellling as small files or as prints via an on-line service. I do keep back up DVD's of all the important events for safety but I don't like to delete anything off of the drives. Messy I know.
Anyway, thanks for the reply again.

  • I updated to Mavericks and Aperture 3.5. After the update, Aperture doesn't see referenced files. I get "No Referenced Files"

I updated to Mavericks and Aperture 3.5.  All my images are referenced on a stand-alone drive.  After the update, Aperture displays thumbnails, but I can't edit because Aperture doesn't see the referenced file ("image offline") and when choose all of my images and I run locate referenced files ... I get "No Referenced Files."  I don't get the screen to "look" for the files.

Did you make a clean install and restore the library from a backup?  No.
Or did you install the new system amd new version on top of the old system?  Yes.
What version did you upgrade from? 3.4
Is your Aperture library onyour internal drive or also on an external drive? External
During the update, has your Aperture library been moved in any way? No, its still where it was on the external drive.
    Thanks for your help.  Ideas?

  • OS Mavericks and Aperture 3

I've just downloaded OS Mavericks and discovered that this version of the Mac OSX does not support Aperture 3.
Can anyone help me to solve this problem please? :-(
I need to access my photo libraries urgently so any help to resolve this issue would be good!
Thanks in advance for advice/solutions. :-)

BUT IPHOTO 9.5.1 LIBRARY IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH APERTURE 3.5.1 ??!!!! because APERTURE 3.5.1 MUST BE UPGRADED IN A NEW VERSION !
That error message is misleading. What probably happened, is that you opened your apeture library in iPhoto 9.5.1 and iPhoto wrote the version number 9.5.1 into the Aperture library.
Backup the library, if you do not have a current, working backup and use the Aperture library First Aid Tools to rebuild the Aperture library. This will correct any version number problem.
    To rebuild the library:
Hold down the alt/option and command keys at the same time, while launching Aperture by double clicking the Aperture icon. Keep holding down the keys firmly, until you see the First Aid panel.
Select "Rebuild database" from the panel.  This may take a long time for a large library. Don't interrupt it.

  • Mavericks and Aperture

I have not upgraded to Mavericks yet.  Are there any lingering problems between the new OSX and Aperture?  I seem to recall some users experienced issues when they switched to Mavericks.  I currently have Aperture 3.4.5 and OSX 10.8.5.

I waited and finally last weekend upgraded from 10.8.5 to 10.9.3.  The upgrade went well (I followed the suggestions in the Take Control guide to upgrading) and I have had no problems with Aperture related to the upgrade.

  • Aperture 3.6 and Aperture Photo Library

When Aperture 3.5.1 is upgraded to Aperture 3.6, will Aperture 3.6 cause the Aperture Photo Library to undergo an upgrade?  If so, is that upgraded library compatible with the Mavericks version of Aperture?
I'm curious, since I will have a Mac running Mavericks and Aperture 3.5.1 (accessing the Aperture 3.6 library)...
    Thanks

  • Any problems upgrading to Mavericks using Aperture 3.4.5?

Are there any known problems upgrading to Mavericks using Aperture 3.4.5?

Are you asking if there are problems running 3.4.5 in Mavericks or if you have 3.4.5 now and upgrade to Mavericks and Aperture 3.5 are there problems?
The first case can;t happen you have to upgrade Aperture to 3.5, 3.4.5 won;t run in Mavericks.
As for the second case, most users have not had any major problems as long as they follow the upgrade guide; repair you library while you still have access to 3.4.5, make sure you have backups, etc.
However if you current setup using a NAS in the Aperture workflow you will need to rethink it. It appears that 3.5 will not even allow referenced masters on the NAS (the library always had to be local).

  • Why are Panasonic GX7 RAW photos not visible in Aperture but in OS X Mavericks and iPhoto?

My Panasonic GX7 RAW photos seem to be visible in OS X Mavericks and iPhoto, but bizarrely not in Aperture (3.5.1).
Does anyone know why this would be? Any solution greatly appreciated.
I've been unable to mange a significant number of images for almost 7 months now due to Aperture's lack of GX7 RAW support and am seriously considering migrating to Lightroom 5. Aperture has been my workflow application of choice for the last 7 or 8 years, but I feel the current situation has become unacceptable and deeply disappointing .

That camera was supported in digital camera Raw 5.0.1 and Aperture 3.4.5 or later. As you say the files are supported in iPhoto it seems you have the right Raw file.
Have you tried it with new imports in Aperture does it still fail? What if you reprocess the Raw files in Aperture, any change?

  • Problems with iPhoto and Aperture after installing Mavericks

I use iphoto 11, version 9.5 (902.7) and Aperture 3.5.  both are dodgy since installing Mavericks - freezing, not allowing access while wheel spins, showing "Processing". I've re-installed both aperture and iphoto from the Apps store.  No difference. Advice please.

The problem keeps occuring every time  I shut down my laptop and reopen it when I am not at home (i.e. no Time capsule connected...)
What could I do to solve this issue...anyone please?

  • Aperture worked in Mavericks and then Stopped working

This is all it says to me now.  :[

I have a similar problem. After upgrading to Maverick an updateng Aperture to version 3.5.1 Aperture opens quite well an after some seconds it crashes. Esapcially after pressing the import button.

  • Clean Install Mavericks and Restoring files

Good afternoon everyone, I want to do a clean install of Mavericks on my iMac so I have a fresh system to work with.  Having read all the blogs I think I understand how to actually do the clean install via a USB stick but there appears to be a wide range of issues when either trying to restore or transfer files backed up to time machine.  Indeed many blogs cite significant problems even accessing Time machine following the clean install.  Surely this should be simple...but appears not..!
I'm primarily worried about restoring my email (googlemail), My 500gb itunes library and my significant library of photographs in Aperture.
Can anyone advise on the best way to restore files following the clean install using time machine ?  My preference would be to re-install the Itunes and Aperture software from fresh and just transfer or re-import the itunes library and photograps (not easy in Aperture I know) as files...if you know what I mean !...  I'm sure I can manage transfer of all other types of files providing I can get into the back up...
Any advice or guidance would be really appreciated..
    Cheers

there appears to be a wide range of issues when either trying to restore or transfer files backed up to time machine
TimeMachine doesn't have a clean install option. It's why I don't use it and prefer bootable clones instead as they are direct accessible in case I do just want grab files and change permissions to the new account, dumping the rest.
With timed clones on seperate hardware, makes it easier to revert from a previous OS X version or optimize and defragment your boot hard drive for better performance using a clone, booting from it and reverse cloning.

How to safely defrag a Mac's hard drive
I'm primarily worried about restoring my email (googlemail), My 500gb itunes library and my significant library of photographs in Aperture.
To fresh install, you need to backup files manually to external drive (not timemachine), then wipe everything and set the machine up like brand new, with new user accounts, preferably with the same drive name (MacintoshHD) user account names, then return files to each account and do a #6 Repair Users Permissions on the files.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
iTunes shouldn't be much of a problem, provided you tag the songs in the playlist with the playlist names (attaches to the song files themselves) and use the same drive name and user account name on the fresh install so the pathnames in the itunes database matches where your files are at.
Aperture shouldn't be much of a problem for the same reason, as long as you copy the contents of your home folders direclty back into the new account folders of the same name, again to match the pathames where your files are at.
Gmail has a online website, so your emails are there, make sure you have the password. They should redownload to your machine once you set up mail in the new account (with the same name)
Local email files on the existing system will be erased with the fresh install method because they are likely seure and hidden in the invisible User/Library folder, which doesn't get restored with the fresh install method. (but will with TimeMachine restores as it copies everything)
Follow the A2 method here for a fresh install of OS X, your just targeting the existing MacintoshHD partition, a full drive wipe isn't necessary.
    Reset your Mac
You also might want to read this also, it can be used for the fresh install method.

  • How do I rebuild a common library used by both iPhoto and Aperture?

I'm using a common library for both iPhoto and Aperture—latest versions of each and Mavericks. I'm finding photos that are in the library that seem to have fallen out of their events or projects. When I open those events or projects, the folders are empty, however the photos are still in the database. How do I rebuild this library so as to recover my original organization?

it will not matter, if you rebuild in iPhoto or Aperture.
You rebuild the library by launching either Aperture or iPhoto while holding down the key combination⌥⌘  (option-command)  and double-clicking  the Aperture or iPhoto icon. Keep holding down the keys, until you are seeing the Library First Aid panel.  Select to Rebuild the database.
Back up your library before rebuilding.
When I open those events or projects, the folders are empty, however the photos are still in the database. How do I rebuild this library so as to recover my original organization?
Where are you seeing the photos, that are missing from the projects, but are still in the database?
Rebuilding will collect photos, that have lost the connection to the edited versions, and show them in a "Recovered Project".  It will not restore them to the original  projects, if it is not clear, what where the originals belong to.
Have you checked, if you have filters set, that are hiding the photos? Check the search fields in the browser and the Info panel, if they are cleared and set to "Show All".

  • IPhoto and Aperture referenced library issues

    Hi,
For the last couple of days I've been busy trying to get my iPhoto/Aperture library to work properly. I recently created a referenced library using Aperture because of lack of space on my internal ssd. I can see all of my Projects, thumbnails, metadata etc. in both iPhoto and Aperture when my external drive is disconnected. However, there are two major issues:
    1) Most of the video thumbnails are broken, both in Aperture and iPhoto. By double clicking a thumbnail of a video (.mov, .avi etc.) it sometimes starts playing (with the external drive connected), sometimes it doesn't, totally inconsistent. I can export the video and it works just fine.
    2) While using iPhoto with the external drive disconnected, all Events are there, the thumbnails are there, everything looks ok, but I can only view some of the previews/photos after double clicking the thumbnails. A dialogue opens up saying "The volume for [imagefilename] cannot be found. Insert the disk or connect to the server volume..", but I can actually see the full size preview behind this dialogue. By clicking "Cancel" the photo dissapears and is replaced by a black screen with a grey exclamation mark. This does not occur while using Aperture, I can see all of my previews in full glory when the external drive is disconnected. However, with the external drive connected everything works in iPhoto (except above mentioned issue with videos).
Please boys and girls, I need your help on this one!

  • I Bought "Aperture 2" and "Aperture 3" in BOX in the past...and now?

In the past I bought "Aperture 2" and subsequently "Aperture 3" in DVD in an Apple Store.
I recently Bought a MacBook Pro Retina.
To install Aperture I had to create a dmg from DVD and install it because in my Mac profile in AppStore it results that I didn't bought Aperture...
I would like (after all money spent in Aperture...) to upgrade to version 3.5 of Aperture, but for me is impossible although I have my original DVD and Serial Number!!
Apple are you saying me that should I buy AGAIN Aperture???
It is very irritating: from Apple Support I didn't receive no answers or, better, they said me "Sir, contact Print Product support" !! It' crazy...
    Please help!
    Thanks!

    Hi Andrew,
the past year I bought a MacPro Retina (so whitout super drive) and I had to create a DMG of my Aperture 3 and install it in my new Retina because of a clean install of Mountain Lion.
The installation successfully executed and I also executed the subsequent Aperture upgrades without problems.
My problem emerged with the upgrade to Mavericks and the release of Aperture 3.5: I wasn't able to upgrade my Aperture from AppStore because AppStore didn't signal me any upgrade available.
By searching in this forum I found out that a solution could be to change the language system in my mac (I'm Italian) to English and retry to verify again the Software update via AppStore.
This solution worked for me: after the reboot required by the system language shift, the AppStore gave me the possibility to upgrade Aperture to 3.5.
I hope this helps and that my answer is clearer than the previous post.
